NOTING THAT A QUORUM IS PRESENT I CALL TO ORDER THIS WORK SESSION OF THE PLANO ISD BOARD OF TRUSTEES AT 5:30 P.M.

ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15TH, 2020.

ON THE BOARD'S BEHALF, I WISH TO EXTEND A WARM WELCOME TO OUR VIEWERS AND TO ALL WHO ARE PRESENT WITH US THIS EVENING.

DUE TO HEALTH CONCERNS IN LIGHT OF THE STATEWIDE DECLARATION OF EMERGENCY RELATED TO THE COVID-19 CORONAVIRUS, TONIGHT'S WORK SESSION IS HELD IN THE BOARDROOM WITH LIMITED SEATING CAPACITY AND OVERFLOW LOCATION IN THE LOBBY WITH LIVE STREAMING IS PROVIDED.

IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE GOVERNOR'S EXECUTIVE ORDER AND IN THE ABSENCE OF ANY OTHER CLEAR RULES AND GUIDELINES FROM THE STATE REGARDING ATTENDANCE AT IN-PERSON GOVERNMENTAL MEETINGS DURING THE STATEWIDE DECLARATION OF EMERGENCY, ALL PERSONS IN ATTENDANCE MUST WEAR FACE MASKS AND PRACTICE SIX FEET SOCIAL DISTANCING.

ADDITIONAL IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE TEXAS EDUCATION AGENCY GUIDANCE FOR VISITS BY THE GENERAL PUBLIC, THE DISTRICT HAS SCREENED EVERYONE PRESENT THIS EVENING DETERMINE IF THEY HAVE COVID-19 SYMPTOMS OR A TEST CONFIRMED WITH COVID-19.

ENTRY TO THE BOARDROOM AND THE OVERFLOW LOCATION IN THE LOBBY IS ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE BASIS. EVERYONE PHYSICALLY PRESENT MUST WEAR A MASK AT ALL TIMES IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE GOVERNOR'S EXECUTIVE ORDER.

EXCEPT WHILE THE PERSON IS GIVING A SPEECH TO AN AUDIENCE, VIOLATORS WILL BE WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE DISTRICT PROPERTY.

WE WILL NOW ADDRESS THE CONSENT AGENDA, WHICH CONSISTS OF ROUTINE ITEMS GROUPED TOGETHER FOR APPROVAL AS ONE ACTION ITEM WITH NO DISCUSSION.

THE BOARD WILL NOW HEAR REPORTS, BEGINNING WITH AN UPDATE OF THE PLANO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AND OPERATIONS PLAN.

I WILL QUICKLY PASS THE BATON TO MR. JOE PARKS, OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF SAFETY AND SECURITY, WHO WILL PROVIDE SOME UPDATES TO THE BOARD THIS EVENING. THANK YOU.

THANK YOU. PRESIDENT RICHARDS, SUPERINTENDENT BONSER MEMBERS OF THE BOARD AND THE CABINET. A FEW UPDATES FROM SAFETY AND SECURITY.

WE'RE GOING TO START WITH SOME THINGS YOU'LL SEE AT OUR CAMPUSES THIS YEAR.

FIRST OF ALL, YOU'LL RECALL LAST YEAR WE RETURNED OUR SRO STAFFING TO PREVIOUS LEVELS AND NOW HAVE SRO'S AT OUR MIDDLE SCHOOLS AND TWO SRO'S AT OUR SENIOR HIGH SCHOOLS.

SO OUR SRO'S RETURNED TO THE SENIOR HIGHS BACK IN AUGUST AND NOW ALL REMAINING SRO'S ARE BACK ON CAMPUS.

SO WE HAVE THE FULL COMPLEMENT OF SRO'S ON THE CAMPUS AT THIS TIME.

WE ALSO IN THE EARLY PLANNING STAGES TO REESTABLISH THE S.R.O.

PROGRAM A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, PLANNED TO PROVIDE VEHICLES FOR SOME OF OUR SRO'S, FOR THE SRO'S THAT WERE ASSIGNED TO MIDDLE SCHOOLS AND THE ACADEMY HIGH SCHOOL.

AND THE PURPOSE FOR THAT WAS TO INCREASE POLICE PRESENCE, BUT ALSO TO ALLOW THOSE SRO'S TO MAKE ROUTINE VISITS TO THEIR FEEDER ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS AND RESPOND TO CALLS FOR SERVICE AT THOSE SCHOOLS.

WE INITIALLY ORDERED THE ADDITIONAL VEHICLES BACK IN MAY OF 2019 AND THROUGH A SERIES OF PRODUCTION DELAYS THOSE VEHICLES WERE ONLY RECEIVED IN THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS AND WENT THROUGH MAKE READY. BUT THEY ARE NOW IN SERVICE AND ALL REPOSITIONED AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL AND ACADEMY HIGH SCHOOL, READY FOR THE SRO'S TO USE.

ONE REQUIREMENT THAT CAME OUT OF SENATE BILL 11 THIS LAST LEGISLATIVE SESSION WAS THAT SCHOOL DISTRICTS WERE REQUIRED TO GIVE SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS BUILDING ACCESS SO THEY CAN ACT AS A FULL TIME EMPLOYEE DURING EMERGENCIES.

SO WE REVISED OUR MULTI HAZARD EMERGENCY OPERATIONS PLAN AND YOU'LL HEAR ME REFER TO MEOP SEVERAL TIMES DURING THIS PRESENTATION.

BUT WE REVISED OUR MEOP TO PROVIDE THAT SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS ARE NOW CHECKED OUT AN ACCESS CARD AT THE CAMPUS WHEN THEY SHOW UP AT THAT PARTICULAR ASSIGNMENT.

SO OVER THE COVID SHUTDOWN, IF YOU WILL, OUR STAFF WERE BUSY IN THE SUMMER AS WELL, PRINTING A SUFFICIENT NUMBER OF CAMPUS SPECIFIC BADGES FOR THE SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS THAT MIGHT WORK AT THOSE CAMPUSES.

SO EACH CAMPUS WAS PROVIDED A SUPPLY OF BADGES THAT THEY CHECK OUT TO THEIR SUBS WHEN THE SUB SHOWS UP FOR WORK THAT DAY AND THEN THEY CHECK IT IN AT THE END OF THE DAY.

THAT CARD WILL GIVE THE SUB ACCESS TO ANY EXTERIOR DOOR WITH A CARD READER SO THEY CAN ENTER AND EXIT THE BUILDING IN AN EMERGENCY.

SO THAT HAS PUT US IN COMPLIANCE WITH THAT NEW REQUIREMENT.

HEY, JOE. YES. JUST REAL QUICK ON THOSE KEYS, CAN THE INDIVIDUAL KEY BE TURNED OFF? ESSENTIALLY. SO IF A SUBSTITUTE TAKES THEIR KEY HOME WITH THEM, YOU CAN JUST KILL THAT ONE KEY RIGHT. YES, THAT'S THE BEAUTY OF THE ELECTRONIC KEY CARDS IS IF ONE IS LOST OR STOLEN, IT'S A HANDFUL OF CLICKS ON THE COMPUTER AND YOU CAN DISABLE THAT BADGE.

AND WE DO THAT FAIRLY ROUTINELY WHEN, YOU KNOW, WE HAVE A STAFF MEMBER LOSE A BADGE OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. SO ON THAT SAME SUBJECT, I HAVE A SIMILAR QUESTION.

DO WE INVENTORY THOSE? HOW ARE WE KEEPING TRACK OF ALL OF THOSE CARDS THAT ARE OUT? SO WE NUMBERED FOR EACH CAMPUS, LIKE THE EXAMPLE IN THIS DAVIS ELEMENTARY CARD NUMBER 10, EACH CAMPUS WE WORK WITH H.R.

TO LOOK AT WHAT THE AVERAGE OR MAXIMUM STAFFING OF SUBSTITUTE TEACHER USE OF THE CAMPUS WAS AND MAKE THAT MANY CARDS FOR EACH CAMPUS AND THEY'RE ALL NUMBERED FROM ONE TO WHATEVER THE END OF THE SERIES.

THOSE ARE KEPT SECURE BY THE CAMPUS AND THEY'RE CHECKED OUT BY NUMBER AND CHECKED BACK IN EACH DAY. EMERGENCY DRILLS, SO THERE WERE A NUMBER OF WAIVERS, I SUPPOSE, ISSUED IN DIFFERENT AREAS OF EDUCATION EMERGENCY DRILLS WAS NOT ONE AS FAR AS WAIVERS BECAUSE OF THE COVID SITUATION.

SO OUR CAMPUSES CONTINUE TO CONDUCT EMERGENCY DRILLS THAT ARE, IN EXCESS OF THE NUMBER REQUIRED BY THE TEXAS SCHOOL SAFETY CENTER.

WE ARE ALLOWING OUR CAMPUSES TO MODIFY THOSE DRILLS WHERE NEEDED TO MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING. THIS SLIDE SHOWS BASICALLY THE DRILL SCHEDULE FOR THIS YEAR.

WE WILL DO 4 LOCKDOWN DRILLS, 10 FIRE DRILLS 2 SHELTER FOR WEATHER DRILLS, ONE SHELTER FOR HAZMAT.

AND THEN THE NEXT THREE DRILLS IN YELLOW.

THOSE ARE ALL NEW DRILLS THAT ARE NOW REQUIRED BY THE TEXAS SCHOOL SAFETY CENTER WITH A RULE COMING OUT BY TEA THAT WILL MAKE THOSE MANDATORY AS A MATTER OF LAW.

SO WE'VE ADDED THE LOCK OUT DRILL, A WHOLE DRILL AND A NON FIRE EVACUATION DRILL TO THE OTHER DRILLS WE DO EACH SCHOOL YEAR.

CAN I ASK A QUESTION? SURE.

BECAUSE IF YOU GO BACK TO SLIDE, IT SAYS ONE LOCKOUT.

DO YOU KNOW WE HAVE COHORT'S A&B.

SO IS THAT FOR COHORT A FOR ONE LOCK OUT AND COHORT B ONE LOCK OUT.

WE'VE ALLOWED THE CAMPUSES TO SELECT THE DATE.

THEY DO THE DRILL WITHIN THE ONE MONTH PERIOD.

SO IT MAY BE ONE COHORT OR THE OTHER.

ONE THING WE'VE PUT IN PLACE TO GIVE THE CAMPUSES AN OPTION FOR SOCIAL DISTANCING AND THIS WHEN WE'RE LOOKING AT THIS, WE STILL DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THE ACTUAL NUMBERS WOULD BE WHEN STUDENTS SHOWED UP AT THE SCHOOL, SO IT WAS DIFFICULT TO KNOW IN ADVANCE HOW MUCH MODIFICATION TO A DRILL WAS NEEDED TO ALLOW SOCIAL DISTANCING.

SO WHAT WE DID IS WE'VE COME UP WITH THIS, WHAT WE CALL THE RED GROUP GREEN GROUP PROCESS THAT THE CAMPUSES ARE ALLOWED TO USE IF THEY NEED IT.

BASICALLY, THEY WOULD ASSIGN CLASSROOMS TO EITHER THESE ARE PHYSICAL CLASSROOMS, NOT GROUPS OF STUDENTS, BUT ASSIGN EACH CLASSROOM TO BE IN EITHER A RED GROUP OR GREEN GROUP, AND THEN THEY CAN STAGGER THEIR DRILLS BY DOING ONE ONE GROUP BEFORE THE OTHER.

FOR EXAMPLE, A FIRE DRILL.

THEY WOULD MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT THAT CLASSROOMS IN THE RED GROUP WOULD IMMEDIATELY EVACUATE THE BUILDING.

THE ADMINISTRATOR WOULD THEN WAIT WHATEVER TIME IS NEEDED, YOU KNOW, EXCUSE ME, 60 TO 90 SECONDS BEFORE THEY THEN TOLD THE GREEN GROUP TO EVACUATE.

SO THAT WOULD LESSEN THE PEDESTRIAN LOAD IN THE HALLWAYS AND AT PINCH POINTS LIKE EXIT DOORS, THINGS LIKE THAT.

WE DO CONTINUALLY EMPHASIZE THAT SOCIAL DISTANCING IS ONLY USED DURING DRILLS.

WE DON'T WANT PEOPLE TO MAKE THE MISTAKE THAT WE WOULD TAKE THOSE PRECIOUS SECONDS TO SOCIAL DISTANCE IN THE FACE OF AN ACTUAL EMERGENCY.

OUR MULTI HAZARD EMERGENCY OPERATIONS PLAN AGAIN OUR MEOP.

JUST TO GIVE YOU SORT OF AN INTRO, OUR MEOP IS COMPRISED OF SEVERAL COMPONENTS.

SO WE HAVE THE THE DISTRICT BASIC PLAN, WHICH IS SORT OF THE THIRTY FIVE THOUSAND FOOT STRATEGIC PORTION OF THE PLAN.

THEN WE HAVE AN EMERGENCY PROCEDURES GUIDE, WHICH ARE INCIDENT SPECIFIC PROCEDURES FOR DIFFERENT EMERGENCIES.

EACH CAMPUS EVERY YEAR UPDATES THEIR INDIVIDUAL CAMPUS EMERGENCY PLAN.

AND THESE ARE, YOU KNOW, EVACUATION ROUTES, STAFF MEMBER ASSIGNMENTS, THINGS LIKE THAT, THAT ARE SPECIFIC TO THAT CAMPUS.

AND THEN THERE ARE SEVERAL APPENDICES AND SOME OF THE DOCUMENTS, WE HAVE OTHER ATTACHMENTS, BUT THAT ALL THIS TOGETHER MAKES UP OUR MEOP.

FOR EXAMPLE, ON THE EMERGENCY PROCEDURES THIS IS A GUIDE THAT HAS ABOUT 18 TO 20 SPECIFIC HAZARDS THAT WE HAVE EMERGENCY PROCEDURES FOR.

AND THE LITTLE VIDEO YOU'RE SEEING, THAT IS IT'S PLAYING THE MEOP APP SEGMENT ON LOCK OUT. SO ALL OF OUR EMPLOYEES, SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS HAVE THE THE MEOP APP ON THEIR SMARTPHONE. SO THIS IS THE ELECTRONIC COMPANION TO THE EMERGENCY PROCEDURES GUIDE.

SO ALL OF OUR EMPLOYEES AND SUBSTITUTES CAN HAVE THIS ON THEIR PHONES.

SO THESE EMERGENCY PROCEDURES ARE AVAILABLE TO THEM AT ANY TIME.

AND THIS SLIDE ON THE LEFT THIS IS JUST A SAMPLE OF SOME OF THE TYPES OF EMERGENCIES THAT ARE ADDRESSED IN THAT PROCEDURE GUIDE.

I MENTIONED SENATE BILL 11 EARLIER, THAT WAS THE SWEEPING SCHOOL SAFETY BILL THAT WAS PASSED LAST YEAR, AND THAT BILL PUT A NUMBER OF ADDITIONAL PROVISIONS THAT ALL SCHOOL DISTRICTS ARE REQUIRED TO INCLUDE IN THEIR MEOP.

THESE ARE JUST THERE WERE MANY NEW REQUIREMENTS, AND THIS IS JUST A SAMPLE OF SOME.

TRAINING AND RESPONDING TO AN EMERGENCY FOR DISTRICT EMPLOYEES, INCLUDING SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS, MANDATORY SAFETY DRILLS.

TO BE PRECISE, IN PREVIOUS YEARS, THE NUMBER AND TYPE OF EMERGENCY DRILLS WERE RECOMMENDATIONS.

THEY'RE NOW ESSENTIALLY A LEGAL REQUIREMENT.

SO THAT WAS WHAT THE MAJOR CHANGE THERE WAS.

YOUR MEOP HAS TO COVER A CHAIN OF COMMAND, HAS TO HAVE PROVISIONS TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF STUDENTS AND PORTABLE BUILDINGS.

AND A POLICY THAT I TALKED ABOUT EARLIER ABOUT GIVING SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS ACCESS TO SCHOOL BUILDINGS. SO THIS IS A SAMPLE OF SOME OF THE MANY REQUIRED ADDITIONS TO EACH SCHOOL DISTRICTS MEOP.

SO OVER THE LAST NINE MONTHS TO A YEAR, WE'VE BEEN WORKING ON REVISING THOSE.

WE'VE NOW ADDED ANY REQUIRED PROVISIONS TO THE MEOP.

WE'VE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE SOME ADDITIONAL APPENDICES, SUCH AS A CONTINUITY OF OPERATIONS PLAN, ANY OF THE SECTIONS THAT WERE REQUIRED BY SENATE BILL 11, SAFETY OF STUDENTS IN PORTABLE BUILDINGS.

WE HAVE AN APPENDIX THAT PROVIDES THE BEST PRACTICES FOR SAFETY IN A PORTABLE BUILDING.

THE REVISIONS WERE DISCUSSED WITH OUR STAFF AND WITH THE SAFETY AND SECURITY COMMITTEE.

PRESIDENT RICHARDS AND MR. WEAVER BOTH ON THE COMMITTEE, AS ARE THE SUPERINTENDENT AND A NUMBER OF OTHER CABINET MEMBERS. AND SO THE REVISED MEOP HAS BEEN ADOPTED AND APPROVED AND IT'S IN PLACE.

BUT THERE'S REALLY A CAVEAT TO THAT.

IT'S NEVER REALLY FINISHED BECAUSE IT'S ALWAYS IN A STATE OF REVISION AND IMPROVEMENT, BECAUSE THERE'S ALWAYS A TWEAK HERE OR THERE OR A NEW BEST PRACTICE THAT CAN BE LOOKED AT TO BE ADDED. SO THAT IS A SNAPSHOT OF SOME THINGS WE'RE DOING IN THE SAFETY AND SECURITY WORLD AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT IN THE DISTRICT.

AND I'M HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS THAT THE BOARD OR THE CABINET MAY HAVE.

YOU KNOW, CODY AND I DID HAVE THE BENEFIT OF ATTENDING THE MEETINGS, AND IT WAS ALSO GRATIFYING TO SEE THE PARTICIPATION BY LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT WHAT WE HAD, I BELIEVE, THE MAJORITY OF THE CITIES THAT EXIST IN OUR DISTRICT PRESENT, WHETHER IT WAS DALLAS, MURPHY, PLANO. FIRST, WE'RE GONNA START WITH INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE, AS YOU KNOW, PLANO EAST IS OUR HUB FOR THE INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE PROGRAM IN PLANO ISD.

WE HAVE QUITE A NUMBER OF STUDENTS IN OUR IB PROGRAM, AND IT'S REALLY HUGE ACROSS OUR STATE. AND OUR PLANO EAST PROGRAM IS QUITE WELL KNOWN NOT ONLY IN TEXAS BUT REALLY ACROSS

THE WORLD. WE HAVE A VERY TOP NOTCH, WELL RENOWNED IB PROGRAM HERE IN PLANO ISD.

WE HAD ONE HUNDRED AND FIVE CANDIDATES SEEK THE IB DIPLOMA AND 95 ACTUALLY EARNED IT.

THAT'S A 90 PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS EARNING THE IB DIPLOMA.

THE IB DIPLOMA IS NOT LIKE AN AP TEST.

IT'S A COMBINATION OF EARNING POINTS ACROSS SIX DIFFERENT AREAS AND DOING AN EXTENDED ESSAY AND A THEORY OF KNOWLEDGE COURSE WITH A COMMUNITY PROJECT ALL TO EARN ENOUGH POINTS TO EARN THE DIPLOMA. AND SO 90 PERCENT RATE IS VERY, VERY, VERY WELL.

WE SHOULD ALL BE PROUD OF THAT.

OUR 11TH AND 12TH GRADE IB STUDENTS DID NOT TAKE IB EXAMS, BUT IN IB THEY USE A COMBINATION OF INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL ASSESSMENTS AS WELL AS TEACHERS PREDICTIVE GRADES, AND THEY COMBINING ALL THAT INFORMATION.

AND WITH OUR HISTORICAL ANALYSIS OF OUR IB PROGRAM, THOSE GRADES WERE ALL PROJECTED TO GET THE FINAL RESULTS.

SO THEY'RE VERY, FOR US, WE HAVE SOME VERY, VERY GOOD, VALID RESULTS BECAUSE WE'VE HAD IB FOR SO LONG. PROVIDED SOME DUAL CREDIT NUMBERS FOR YOU TONIGHT, MORE OR LESS, WE'RE RIGHT IN THE RANGE OF WHERE WE'VE BEEN.

HAD ABOUT 100 STUDENTS DROPPED IN OUR CLASS OF 2020 COMPARED TO A PREVIOUS CLASS.

WE OFFERED THIS TEST, THE 10TH AND 11TH GRADERS.

WE HAD ELEVEN HUNDRED AND FORTY EIGHT 11TH GRADE STUDENTS ELECT TO TAKE THE EXAM.

AS YOU CAN SEE, STUDENTS IN PLANO OUTPERFORMED THE STATE AND NATION ONCE AGAIN.

THIS HAS BEEN OUR TREND FOR THE LAST FEW DECADES.

THE RESULTS PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH FEEDBACK REGARDING SKILLS THAT CAN BE IMPROVED AND PROVIDE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FUTURE ADVANCED COURSEWORK THROUGH AP POTENTIAL.

IN ADDITION, STUDENTS ARE ABLE TO IMPROVE THEIR SKILLS AT NO COST THROUGH KHAN ACADEMY, WHICH IS CONNECTED TO THEIR PSAT RESULTS.

STILL RIGHT IN THE SAME BANDWIDTH, WE SORT OF TOOK A BIG JUMP, THIS IS ABOUT THE SAME TIME SAT TESTS CHANGED IN 16 17, AND WE STAYED RIGHT ALONG THAT SAME SIX HUNDRED FOR READING AND WRITING AND 615 ISH FOR OUR MATH.

THIS IS AP EXAM STUDENT PARTICIPATION, THIS IS ALL THE STUDENTS IN GRADES 9TH THROUGH 12TH.

AND THIRTY SIX PERCENT OF ALL THE 9TH AND THROUGH 12TH GRADERS TOOK AN AP EXAM.

YOU KNOW, WE ALSO GIVE AP EXAMS IN MIDDLE SCHOOL FOR OUR AP SPANISH CLASS.

LAST YEAR WE HAD ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY SEVEN STUDENTS IN MIDDLE SCHOOLS IN SIX DIFFERENT MIDDLE SCHOOLS TAKE THE AP SPANISH TEST.

LAST YEAR FOR OUR SENIOR HIGH SCHOOLS, A LITTLE OVER NINE THOUSAND STUDENTS TOOK AP EXAMS. THE HIGH SCHOOLS IS A LITTLE OVER 3400.

AND THEN THIS IS HOW THEY DID ABOUT 79 PERCENT OF ALL OF OUR STUDENTS AT THE SENIOR HIGH THAT TOOK THE EXAM EARNED A THREE OR HIGHER.

A THREE IS USUALLY CONSIDERED PASSING.

ATTRIBUTE THE DECLINE IN AP TESTS, GO BACK A COUPLE OF SLIDES.

I MEAN, IT MAKES SENSE THAT COVID WOULD BE A RESPONSIBLE FACTOR IN THAT THE DECREASE.

SO I'M WONDERING IF PERHAPS THAT COULD BE ANOTHER REASON WE SEE A DECREASE.

SO I WOULD SUGGEST THAT YOU ALSO LOOK AT THAT NUMBER IN CORRELATION WITH DUAL CREDIT, BECAUSE THE DROP IN THE NUMBER OF DUAL CREDIT COURSES RELATIVE TO THE PRIOR YEAR WAS NOT AS BIG AS THE DROP IN AP COURSES RELATIVE TO THE AP TEST.

I MEAN, RELATIVE TO THE PRIOR YEAR, MEANING ARE MORE OF OUR KIDS TAKING DUAL CREDIT OVER

AND ON THE SECOND DAY ON THE JOB, WE ASKED OUR NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR FOR STUDENT FAMILY COMMUNITY SERVICES TO HELP WITH THIS AND ATTEND THESE BACK TO SCHOOL FAIRS.

AND SO I'M EXCITED TO INTRODUCE YOU TO MR. STEVE EWING, OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR FOR STUDENT FAMILY COMMUNITY SERVICES.

REAL QUICK BEFORE I GET STARTED, I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH WITH ONE OF THE PIECES OF THE REPORT, DR.

GOBER'S REPORT. ONE OF THOSE 95 KIDDO'S IS MY KID.

AND I JUST WANT TO GO AHEAD AND THROW THAT UP THERE, BECAUSE I KNOW ONE OF THEM IS HIM.

AND I KNOW TEXAS A&M IS VERY EXCITED TO HAVE HIM.

I GET THAT BILL NOW EVERY MONTH AND BUT VERY, VERY PROUD.

[LAUGHTER] SO WE HELD THREE BACK TO SCHOOL FAIRS STARTING IN JULY.

I LITERALLY, DR. GOBER, SAID THAT I WAS ON THE JOB BARELY JUST A FEW DAYS.

AND WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THE FIRST SLIDE HERE IS THAT IT TALKS ABOUT THE STUDENT, FAMILY AND COMMUNITY. AND I THINK THAT IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS HERE WITH OUR SLIDE'S THAT WE'RE GOING TO PRESENT TO YOU THIS EVENING.

AND ONE OF THE STORIES I'LL TELL YOU IS WHEN WE BEGAN THE FIRST FAIR AT WILLIAMS HIGH SCHOOL, IT WAS TRULY AMAZING.

A BUS PULLS INTO THE PARKING LOT AND THE KIDS START CLAPPING AND CHEERING.

AND IT WAS THE FIRST TIME THEY'D SEEN A SCHOOL BUS IN MANY MONTHS AND IT WAS EYE OPENING FOR US. AND THEN WE'LL GO INTO THE SLIDES AND I'LL TALK ABOUT EACH SITE AND WHAT TOOK

PLACE. AS I SAID, WE HAD THREE BACK TO SCHOOL FAIRS HELD AT THREE CAMPUSES, CONTACTLESS DISTRIBUTION MODEL TO HELP KEEP THE COMMUNITY SAFE WHILE SERVING THE NEEDS OF OUR PISD STUDENTS AND FAMILIES. AND THEY RECEIVED BACKPACKS FILLED WITH SCHOOL SUPPLIES, A BAG FILLED WITH DISTRICT AND COMMUNITY RESOURCES, BOX OF NONPERISHABLE FOOD AND MASKS.

YOU CAN SEE THERE ON THE PICTURE IS AN EXAMPLE OF ONE OF OUR SETUPS.

YOU CAN SEE OUR VOLUNTEERS THERE, THE CARS, AS THEY PULLED THROUGH AND THEY PICKED UP THEIR DIFFERENT ITEMS. AND ALL THREE EVENTS WERE HIGHLY ATTENDED, INCLUDING AS MANY AS THREE, CLOSE TO 3000 VEHICLES, FAMILIES THAT CAME THROUGH OUR LINES THROUGH THE THREE SITES.

LET'S SEE HERE.

THERE WE GO.

THE FIRST FAIR I ATTENDED WAS AT WILLIAMS HIGH SCHOOL AND VERY SPECIAL MOMENT THAT DAY IS AGAIN, THE CARS ALL LINED UP AND IT RAINED ALL DAY.

AND OUR STUDENT FAMILY, COMMUNITY SERVICE, OUR TEAM MEMBERS, OUR VOLUNTEERS, OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS, THEY ALL DID A GREAT JOB OF BEING THERE FOR THE KIDS AND THE FAMILIES. AND IT WAS HIGHLY ATTENDED, A HUGE THANKS TO THE PLANO POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR CERTAINLY WORKING THE TRAFFIC AS THE LINES WERE VERY LONG.

AND PEOPLE HAD NEEDS.

BEFORE COVID HAPPENED, WE KNOW WHO OUR FAMILIES ARE WE KNOW THEM VERY WELL.

WE KNOW WHAT NEEDS MOST OF THEM HAVE WERE VERY IN TUNE WITH THE RELATIONSHIPS AT SCHOOLS.

INTERESTING ENOUGH, IN THESE BACK TO SCHOOL FAIRS, WE ALSO MET FAMILIES THAT MAYBE WE DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT BEFORE BECAUSE THEY WERE BUSINESS OWNERS OR THEY HAD HUGE BILLS TO PAY.

AND NOW TWENTY DOLLARS HERE AND THIRTY DOLLARS THERE IS ACTUALLY VERY IMPORTANT.

AND SO WE HAD A LOT OF FAMILIES THAT LINED UP TO COME BACK TO OUR BACK TO SCHOOL FAIRS FOR THEIR SCHOOL SUPPLIES.

THE NEXT FAIR WE HAD THERE AT RENNER MIDDLE SCHOOL, AGAIN, WAS HIGHLY ATTENDED.

WE HAD LOTS OF PEOPLE AND IT WASN'T ANY DIFFERENT FROM WILLIAMS TO CARPENTER TO RENNER LOTS OF INTERESTED PEOPLE.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, THE STUDENTS WERE SO EXCITED TO BE AT OUR BACK TO SCHOOL FAIRS AND SEEING THE SCHOOLS AND SEEING THE SCHOOL BUSSES AND SEEING TEACHERS AND SEEING STAFF MEMBERS. THEY WERE ALL VERY SIMILAR IN THAT ASPECT, IS THAT PEOPLE WERE EXCITED THAT SCHOOL SOMEHOW IN SOME WAY ON THOSE DAYS WAS NORMAL AND HAD BEGUN.

ON THE NEXT SLIDE.

CAN I GO BACK THAT'S MY PARTNER IN CRIME THERE, JAMEE JOLLY.

AND OUR JOB THAT DAY WAS TRAFFIC CONTROL.

WE WERE PRETTY GOOD.

THE OFFICER AT THE OTHER END WAS ABOUT FIVE FEET TALLER THAN BOTH OF US WAS DOING A GREAT JOB FROM THE PLANO POLICE DEPARTMENT.

THAT BUS WE FILLED WITH BACKPACKS.

AND IT WAS REALLY GREAT TO PULL THOSE BACKPACKS OUT OF THE BUS AND THEN BEGIN TO LINE UP AND AGAIN SEE THE FAMILIES AND STUDENTS AND THEIR EYES LIGHT UP.

AT THE OTHER FAIRS WHAT I WOULD DO IS I PARTNERED WITH OUR MULTILINGUAL SERVICE AND WE WOULD WALK DOWN THE LINE OF CARS AND WE CHECKED ON EACH FAMILY TO SEE IF THERE WAS JUST ANY THING ELSE THAT THAT CAME UP.

I TOOK NOTES. I DELIVERED SEVERAL SCHOOL SUPPLY PACKETS TO FAMILIES THAT HAD STUDENTS THAT WERE EITHER RECENTLY OUT OF A SURGERY OR THEY WERE DISABLED OR WHATEVER THE REASON MIGHT BE. AND SO I'VE BEEN MAKING THOSE HOME VISITS.

I HAVE A FEW MORE TO DO.

AND THEY COULDN'T BE THERE IN OUR LINES.

AND SO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE SUPPORTING ALL OF OUR FAMILIES THROUGH THE START OF SCHOOL. WE ALSO HAD IMMUNIZATION SET UP, WE HAD A TON OF PEOPLE SIGN UP OR COME TO OUR IMMUNIZATION TABLES, THERE WERE A LOT OF FACILITIES THAT WERE NOT RECEIVING STUDENTS OR THINGS FOR THIS KIND OF SERVICE.

AND SO WE SET UP OUR IMMUNIZATION TABLES.

THEY WERE HIGHLY ATTENDED AND WE WERE ABLE TO HELP OUR KIDDOS AND FAMILIES THERE WITH THEIR IMMUNIZATIONS AT ALL THREE OF THE EVENTS AND THEN OUR DISTRICT AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS AND YOU CAN SEE HERE ON THIS SLIDE OBVIOUSLY PLANO ISD AND THE STUDENT FAMILY COMMUNITY SERVICE GROUP.

THEY DID A WONDERFUL JOB OF ORGANIZATION AND MARKETING BECAUSE, LIKE I SAID, IT WAS AMAZINGLY ATTENDED. OUR PLANO ISD EDUCATION FOUNDATION AND SECURING LOTS OF SCHOOL SUPPLIES AND RESOURCES FOR STUDENTS THE PLANO ISD COUNCIL PTA'S.

THEY'RE ALSO HANDING OUT THEIR RESOURCES AND INFORMATION AS WELL.

AND THEN WE HAD MINNIE'S FOOD PANTRY.

ALL WE KNEW THIS IS RBFCU, BUT IT'S RANDOLPH BROOKS FEDERAL CREDIT UNION.

I WAS VERY FAMILIAR WITH RBFCU FOR A LONG TIME, ON MY TWEETS, BUT NOW I KNOW IT'S ANOTHER NAME. CENTRAL MARKET, CAPITAL ONE, MEDCO ER, URGENT CARE, PASSPORT HEALTH.

AND AGAIN, WE REALLY NEEDED THEIR PARTNERSHIPS BECAUSE THE THE COMMUNITY JUST SIMPLY HAD TONS OF NEEDS DUE TO MANY FACTORS.

ALL WE CAN GUESS ON MANY OF THEM.

BUT WE DEPEND ON OUR PARTNERS.

WE DEPEND ON OUR DISTRICT AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS TO DO A LOT OF THINGS FOR US AND FOR OUR STUDENTS. AND THEN THIS IS A GREAT SLIDE.

WE HAD A TON OF VOLUNTEERS, FAMILIES, PARENTS, STUDENTS, THEY'RE VOLUNTEERING.

THERE SERVICE CREW SHIRT THERE AND THEY WERE SO EXCITED.

THEY JUST WANTED TO DO NORMAL SCHOOL AND NORMAL SCHOOL STUFF.

AND THEY DID AN OUTSTANDING JOB.

I WAS VERY PROUD OF THE KIDS AND THE [INAUDIBLE] PRINCIPAL AND ME CERTAINLY CAME OUT.

AND I LOVED SPENDING TIME WITH THEM DURING THAT TIME.

AND AGAIN, JUST DEDICATED TO CARING IS THE LAST SLIDE AND THE THREE BACK TO SCHOOL EVENTS WERE, LIKE I SAID, THEY WERE AMAZINGLY ATTENDED.

AND I THINK SOME OF THAT WAS WE EXPECTED AND I THINK THERE WAS A FEW SURPRISES THERE, TOO. AND I WAS GLAD TO HIT THE GROUND RUNNING THOSE TWO DAYS AND DO MY PART AND BE A PART OF THE TEAM. AND THEY WERE VERY RECEIVING OF ME AND I WAS VERY THANKFUL.

AND AT THE END OF THE DAY WE SERVE KIDS, WE SERVE OUR FAMILIES, AND THAT'S WHAT WE DO.

I DROVE DOWN TO DALLAS TO A STORE WHO VOLUNTEERED OTHER BACKPACKS, AND WE PICKED UP BACKPACKS LEFT AND RIGHT, AND WE COULD HAVE USED MORE.

IT'S A LITTLE BIT INTERESTING THIS YEAR BECAUSE SOME OF OUR USUAL DONORS TO THE CORE STORE FOR SUPPLIES SWITCHED THEIR MODEL THIS YEAR AND THEY WERE NOT GIVING SCHOOL SUPPLIES TO PLANO, BUT THEY WERE GIVING THEM TO DISTRICTS WHO HAVE HIGHER LOW SOCIO ECONOMIC RATES SO SOME OF THE SUPPLIES THAT WE USED TO COUNT ON FOR THIS WE'RE NOT THERE FOR US THIS YEAR.

SO WE REALLY HAVE APPRECIATED THE EXTRA EFFORT OF STUDENT AND FAMILY SERVICES AND THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION AND PTA IN FINDING ALTERNATIVE RESOURCES TO PUT BACKPACKS TOGETHER OURSELVES. AND IN LIEU OF THOSE OTHER GROUPS THAT HAVE GONE A DIFFERENT DIRECTION FOR THIS ONE YEAR BECAUSE OF COVID.

SO A COUPLE OF JUST VERY QUICK COMMENTS.

I THINK YOU'VE GOT A GREAT TEAM.

IF YOU CAN COME IN WITH TWO DAYS NOTICE AND PUT TOGETHER EVENTS LIKE THIS, YOUR TEAM DID A GREAT JOB. AND SO CONGRATULATIONS ON THAT AND THANK YOU TO OUR PARTNERS.

AND OF COURSE, YOU KNOW, IN THIS YEARS OF VIRTUAL LEARNING, WE WOULD NEED AND I WOULD GRANT A TEACHER'S WISH AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.

TEACHERS ARE TRYING TO BE INNOVATIVE TO HELP STUDENTS AND WE HAVE A CHANCE TO MAKE THEIR WISH COME TRUE. AND THE GRANTS TO EDUCATORS, WE REALLY WANT TO MAKE IT A BIG SUCCESS AND GRANT EVERY TEACHER'S WISH.

THEIR EXECUTIVE MEETING WAS SEPTEMBER 1ST.

AND THEY HAD A DELEGATE MEETING TODAY VIRTUALLY.

AND WHAT THEY'VE DONE IS THEY'VE ADDED A NEW COMMITTEE TO THEIR TEAM, AND IT'S CALLED THE ANTIRACISM COMMITTEE, AND I WOULD LIKE TO ASK FOR ALL OUR VIEWERS IF THEY COULD PLEASE JOIN YOUR SCHOOL'S PTA'S THIS YEAR.

AND I ALSO WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT THE COUNCIL OF PTA'S ARE SUPPORTING THE 2020 SPREAD THE HOPE, WHICH IS A COLLIN COUNTY PEANUT BUTTER DRIVE, WHICH IS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE NORTH TEXAS FOOD BANK.

SO PLEASE DONATE YOUR PEANUT BUTTER JARS TO YOUR LOCAL SCHOOLS.

AND SOMETHING ELSE IS GOING ON IS ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16TH.

IS THAT BECAUSE OF PTA'S 2020 WILL VIRTUALLY HAVE THEIR LIFE MEMBER BANQUET'S.
