AND I CALL TO ORDER THIS MEETING OF THE PLANO ISD BOARD OF TRUSTEES AT 6:00 PM ON TUESDAY, MAY THE 5TH, 2020.

ON THE BOARD'S BEHALF, I WISH TO EXTEND A WARM WELCOME TO ALL OF OUR [NOISE] ONLINE VIEWERS.

ON MARCH THE 16TH, 2020, GOVERNOR GREG ABBOTT GRANTED A REQUEST BY ATTORNEY GENERAL, KEN PAXTON, TO TEMPORARILY SUSPEND A LIMITED NUMBER OF OPEN MEETING LAWS IN RESPONSE TO THE COVID-19, CORONAVIRUS, TO ALLOW VIDEO CONFERENCE MEETINGS.

IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE SUSPENDED RULES, WE CERTIFY THAT ALTHOUGH MEMBERS OF THE BOARD ARE NOT GATHERED TOGETHER IN A PHYSICAL CENTRAL LOCATION, WE DO HAVE A QUORUM IN ATTENDANCE VIA ZOOM MEETING VIDEO CONFERENCING.

AS WE WOULD AT ANY IN-PERSON MEETING, MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC WHO HAVE FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE MEETING NOTICE FOR REGISTERING TO SPEAK DURING PUBLIC COMMENT SESSION BY SUBMITTING WRITTEN COMMENTS IN ADVANCE WILL HAVE THEIR COMMENTS READ ALOUD BY BOARD SECRETARY, JERI CHAMBERS.

MY HEART GOES OUT TO OUR CLASS OF 2020 AND THEIR FAMILIES, WHICH INCLUDES TWO OF OUR BOARD COLLEAGUES, ANGELA AND DAVID, WHO ARE SENIORS.

I KNOW THAT THIS IS A HARD TIME FOR EVERYONE, BUT I WANT OUR SENIORS AND OUR FAMILIES TO KNOW THAT WE KNOW THAT THEY'RE STRONG.

I'VE SEEN HOW OUR COMMUNITY HAS PULLED TOGETHER IN SO MANY WAYS DURING THIS CRISIS AND I WANT OUR SENIORS TO KNOW THAT WE ARE PULLING TOGETHER FOR THEM.

DISTRICT LEADERS ARE WORKING ON ALTERNATIVES THAT NO MATTER WHAT, WILL INCLUDE SOME SORT OF AN IN-PERSON TANGIBLE EXPERIENCE, EVEN IF A TRADITIONAL IN-PERSON CEREMONY IS NOT POSSIBLE.

AS WE BEGIN TO WRAP UP THIS SCHOOL YEAR, WE HAVE MUCH TO CELEBRATE IN THE MONTH OF MAY.

WE WILL CONTINUE TO HONOR OUR CLASS OF 2020 WITH VIRTUAL WEEKLY ON SOCIAL MEDIA ACTIVITIES.

MAY 1ST WAS NATIONAL PRINCIPALS DAY AND I'D LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU TO OUR PLANO ISD PRINCIPALS, ASSOCIATE PRINCIPALS AND ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS FOR SUPPORTING OUR TEACHERS, STUDENTS AND FAMILIES.

MAY 1ST WAS ALSO NATIONAL SCHOOL LUNCH HEROES DAY, AND SO WE ARE SO GRATEFUL FOR THESE UNSUNG HEROES THAT GO ABOVE AND BEYOND TO PROVIDE OUR STUDENTS WITH BREAKFAST AND LUNCH, EVEN DURING THIS TIME OF SCHOOL CLOSURE.

FINALLY, THIS WEEK WE ARE CELEBRATING TEACHERS DURING TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK.

ALL THESE COMMEMORATIONS MAY LOOK VERY DIFFERENT THIS YEAR BUT WE WANT EVERYONE TO KNOW THAT THE DISTRICT IS WORKING HARD TO BE CREATIVE, INNOVATIVE IN ORDER TO MAKE THESE CELEBRATIONS [NOISE] FEEL SPECIAL.

I READ AN INTERESTING ARTICLE RECENTLY.

IT QUOTED AN OLD PASTOR WHO HAD AN ANNOYING HABIT OF LOOKING ON THE BRIGHT SIDE.

IN THE FACE OF BAD NEWS, HE WOULD ASK, "WHAT DOES THIS MAKE POSSIBLE?" I THINK THAT'S A GOOD QUESTION FOR ALL OF US NOW, BOTH IN OUR PERSONAL AND IN OUR PROFESSIONAL LIVES.

WHAT DOES THIS TIME OF CHALLENGE MAKE POSSIBLE? HOW CAN YOU BE BETTER, DIFFERENT BECAUSE YOU MUST RISE TO THIS NEW CHALLENGE? WORKING TOGETHER AND RISING INTO THESE CHALLENGES, WE CAN BUILD AN EVEN BRIGHTER EDUCATIONAL FUTURE FOR OUR CHILDREN.

WE'RE ALSO GRATEFUL THE WAY THAT OUR STUDENTS, FAMILIES, AND COMMUNITIES HAVE COME TOGETHER TO ENSURE THAT THE LEARNING CONTINUES.

WE'VE LEARNED SO MUCH DURING THIS TIME.

TEACHERS HAVE LEARNED TO CHANGE THEIR TEACHING STYLE OVERNIGHT.

PARENTS HAVE LEARNED MORE ABOUT THE INDIVIDUAL LEARNING STYLES OF THEIR CHILDREN, AND STUDENTS HAVE HAD TO BE IN CHARGE OF THEIR OWN LEARNING LIKE NEVER BEFORE.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO BETTER TIMES AHEAD AND WE WILL BE READY WITH NEW SKILLS BECAUSE WE RIBBON TO THIS CHALLENGE. THANK YOU.

AS STATED IN BOARD POLICY BDAA LOCAL IN NON-ELECTION YEARS, THE ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING FOR THE BOARD OF OFFICERS, THE ELECTION OF THE BOARD OF OFFICERS SHALL TAKE PLACE AT THE FIRST REGULAR MEETING IN MAY.

MEMBERS OF THE BOARD SHALL ORGANIZE BY SELECTING A PRESIDENT, VICE PRESIDENT, AND SECRETARY.

BOARD OPERATING PROTOCOLS STATES THAT NEWLY ELECTED BOARD OFFICERS WILL RESUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR OFFICE FOLLOWING THE CURRENT SCHOOL YEARS GRADUATION CEREMONY, WHICH IN THIS CASE WOULD BE THE PUBLISHED DATE IN JUNE THAT WAS ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED.

ADDITIONALLY, THE SUPERINTENDENT WILL PRESIDE OVER THE ELECTION OF THE BOARD PRESIDENT.

ACHIEVING THE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT THAT INCLUDE ACADEMICS AND DEPARTMENTAL GOALS, AND THAT IS BROUGHT TO THE BOARD EACH FALL AND FOR THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS, AND THAT IS IT SETS THE COURSE AND THE PLAN FOR US FOR THE YEAR.

USUALLY, WE WOULD BE IN THE FINAL AGES OF COMPLETING THE ORIGINAL PLAN OF WORK AS SET FORTH IN THE FALL.

USUALLY, THINGS WILL POP UP DURING THE YEAR AND WE'LL HAVE A CONVERSATION OF HOW DO WE PUT THAT IN THE PLANET WORK? OR DO WE PUT IT IN NEXT YEAR'S PLAN OF WORK? OR DO WE TAKE SOMETHING OUT OF THE PLAN OF WORK AND REPLACE IT BECAUSE OF A PRIORITY? WELL, OF COURSE, WE'VE HAD A HUGE PRIORITY EMERGE RECENTLY.

SO I WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT THE BOARD HAS AN UNDERSTANDING FROM EACH OF THE TEAM MEMBERS WHERE THEY'VE BEEN WORKING AND WHERE THEY'RE HEADED WITH SOME OF THE WORK THAT IS RELATED TO COVID-19 AND SCHOOL CLOSURE.

SO YOU'LL BE ABLE TO SEE MAYBE, WHEN WE COME BACK IN THE SUMMATIVE REPORTING TIME, THAT A FEW THINGS THAT WERE IN THE ORIGINAL PLAN MAY HAVE SLOWED DOWN SLIGHTLY [NOISE] AND WILL HAVE TO BE CARRIED OVER TO NEXT YEAR AS WE'VE ACCOMMODATED THIS NEW WORK.

THEN CERTAINLY, OTHER THINGS WILL HAVE COMPLETED ON SCHEDULE.

BUT THIS WILL BECOME A PART OF THAT COMPREHENSIVE LOOK AT THE YEAR.

SO THE FIRST THING I WOULD WANT TO SAY IS HOW APPRECIATIVE THE ADMINISTRATION HAS BEEN OF THE BOARD SUPPORT AND GUIDANCE AND GOVERNANCE DURING THIS TIME.

BECAUSE THE VERY FIRST THING THAT HAPPENED, OF COURSE, WAS THAT WE HAD AN EMERGENCY BOARD MEETING SO THAT YOU CAN CONTINUE TO PROVIDE GOVERNANCE AND WISE COUNSEL TO ADMINISTRATION AS WE WORKED THROUGH MANAGING THIS CHANGE.

THAT HAS CONTINUED THROUGHOUT THESE WEEKS.

THEN THE NEXT BULLETS YOU CAN SEE IS IT'S BEEN A MASSIVE COLLABORATIVE EFFORT.

WE MEET DAILY WITH OTHER SUPERINTENDENTS, WE MEET SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK IN A REGION, WE DO ROUND TABLES WITHIN OUR COUNTY WITH SUPERINTENDENTS, WE MEET WITH THE COMMISSIONER AT THE BEGINNING DAILY AND NOW, AT LEAST TWO TO THREE TIMES A WEEK, WE ARE ON A CALL WITH THE COMMISSIONER OF EDUCATION.

WE'VE BEEN WORKING WITH OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS AND THEY HAVE BEEN SUPPORTING US AS WELL.

THEN WE REALLY COULD NOT HAVE DONE THIS WITHOUT SUPPORT FROM OUR PARENTS AND OUR PTA AS THEY'VE HELPED US CHANNEL COMMUNICATION AND GIVEN US FEEDBACK AND SUPPORT.

THE PTA HAS BEEN JUST SUCH A SOLID PARTNER LIKE THEY ALWAYS ARE IN HELPING US AND HELPING US UNDERSTAND THE PARENT PERSPECTIVE ON WHAT'S HAPPENING AND WHAT WE CAN DO TO CONTINUE TO IMPROVE AND RESPOND, AND IT'S NO DOUBT THIS IS A CHALLENGING SITUATION FOR OUR PARENTS AND FAMILIES, AND WE CERTAINLY UNDERSTAND THAT.

THEN THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION HAS PIVOTED AND FOUND A WAY TO REALLOCATE RESOURCES TO SUPPORT THE EFFORTS AROUND SCHOOL SUPPLIES DURING SCHOOL CLOSURE.

YOU'LL HEAR A LITTLE BIT THAT THEY'VE BEEN CONTACTED BY PARTNERS OF THE FOUNDATION TO FUND SOME THINGS THAT WE WANTED TO DO TO GIVE COMPUTER ACCESS TO KIDS.

SO WE'RE VERY APPRECIATIVE OF R EDUCATION FOUNDATION AND THEIR SUPPORT.

THEN OF COURSE, THROUGH THE AMENDED RESOLUTION, YOU WON'T SEE A REPORT ON THE AMENDED RESOLUTION AT THIS BOARD MEETING BECAUSE WE'VE TAKEN NO FURTHER ACTIONS AS A RESULT OF THE RESOLUTION AT THIS TIME.

I KNOW THAT YOU ALL HAVE RECEIVED THAT COMMUNICATION AS WELL.

SO IT HAS BEEN INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT FOR US TO ESTABLISH DAILY COMMUNICATION, OR ALMOST DAILY COMMUNICATION TO PRINCIPALS AND TO ALL OF OUR STAFF AND TEACHERS AS A WHOLE, AS WELL AS TO OUR FAMILY MEMBERS.

IMMEDIATELY, MY WHOLE DEPARTMENT WORKED QUICKLY TO ASSEMBLE RESOURCES SO THAT WE COULD LAUNCH A WEBSITE FOR PARENTS TO USE AT HOME JUST FOR SUPPORTING LEARNING OF BOTH ONLINE AND OFFLINE ACTIVITIES.

IN THE PLANNING FOR PHASE 2 AND BEYOND, THE ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY ECONOMIC SERVICES TEAM WORKED VERY QUICKLY.

THEY HAD TO STUDY THE SCOPE AND SEQUENCE OF ALL THE REMAINING CONTENT FOR THE YEAR IN ALL OUR COURSES AND EVERY GRADE LEVEL AND THE TEAMS WORK TO IDENTIFY ESSENTIAL PIECES IN EVERY ONE OF THOSE UNITS THAT WERE REMAINING THAT REALLY NEEDED TO BE TAUGHT.

THEY DEVELOPED TRAINING AND SUPPORT FOR TEACHERS AS THEY TRANSITIONED ALL INSTRUCTION AND PLANNING TO A REMOTE ENVIRONMENT.

SO THE ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY TEAMS ARE, OF COURSE, CONTINUING THIS LEVEL OF SUPPORT THROUGHOUT THE REMAINDER OF THE YEAR AND THEY ALSO CONTINUE TO MAKE ADJUSTMENTS AS NEEDED BASED ON FEEDBACK.

SO AS YOU KNOW, PHASE 2 ROLLED OUT MARCH 23RD.

IT WAS A TWO-WEEK PERIOD, AND TEACHERS ACTUALLY BEGAN THE REMOTE INSTRUCTION THEN.

DURING THAT TWO WEEKS, WE DID NOT TAKE GRADES BECAUSE WE WERE ALLOWING TIME FOR EVERYONE TO GET CONNECTED, BECOME FAMILIAR WITH THEIR REMOTE LEARNING, AND TECHNOLOGY WAS STILL BEING DEPLOYED.

THEN PHASE 3 CAME ALONG, IT STARTED APRIL 6TH AND WILL EXTEND TO THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.

FOR MANY CLASSES, THIS WAS A CONTINUATION OF THE PHASE 2, A TEACHER REMOTE LEARNING.

IN MANY OF OUR SECONDARY COURSES, HOWEVER, WE NOW HAVE A BLENDED APPROACH WITH TEACHER-DEVELOPED ASSIGNMENTS ALONG WITH THE DISTRICT WIDE VIRTUAL CONTENT THAT WE HAVE WITH OUR INGENUITY PLATFORM, WHICH WE DID ALIGN TO OUR CURRICULUM.

WE HAVE LOTS OF STUDENTS PREPARING FOR THAT.

THEY HAVE, OF COURSE, GIVEN SPECIFIC GUIDANCE ON WHAT THAT WILL LOOK LIKE AND EXACT TIMES TO TAKE THE TEST.

WE'VE KEPT OUR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES UPDATED.

ON THE IB PROGRAM, THESE TESTS HAVE COMPLETELY BEEN CANCELED, SO OUR TEACHERS ARE SUBMITTING STUDENT WORK AND PROJECTS TO BE EXTERNALLY SCORED TO DETERMINE TEST SCORES THERE.

THEN FOR ACT AND SAT, WE'RE STILL WAITING FOR DECISIONS THERE ON WHAT THOSE TESTS WOULD LOOK LIKE IF THERE ARE GOING TO BE ALLOWED TO TAKE THEM AT HOME.

THE FIRST OF THOSE IS THE ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOL EDUCATION RELIEF FUNDS OR ANOTHER ACRONYM ALSO ESSER THAT YOU MAY HEAR ABOUT, THERE WAS 13.2 BILLION THAT WAS DEDICATED TO THIS NATIONWIDE AND 1.2 BILLION OF THAT WAS ALLOTTED TO TEXAS SCHOOLS.

OUR LATEST ESTIMATED AMOUNT AT PLANO IS APPROXIMATELY 3.9 OR JUST SLIGHTLY OVER THAT.

I'M NOT SURE IF THIS IS GOING TO FLOW TO US THIS COMING YEAR OR IF THE STATE IS GOING TO SAVE IT FOR THE FOLLOWING YEAR.

SECONDLY, THERE'S THE GOVERNOR'S EDUCATION RELIEF FUNDING, THAT'S ALSO CALLED GEER, G-E-E-R.

THERE WAS THREE BILLION ALLOCATED NATIONWIDE AND 300 MILLION FOR TEXAS.

WE THINK THAT THE STATE IS PROBABLY GOING TO USE THIS FOR STATE REVENUE LOSSES OR REDUCTIONS IN THE UPCOMING YEARS.

TRY-OUTS AND AUDITIONS HAVE REALLY TAKEN PLACE THIS YEAR VIRTUALLY AND THAT'S PRETTY UNIQUE.

I KNOW IN MY YEARS HERE IN THE DISTRICT, I HAVEN'T BEEN DIRECTLY BEEN A PART OF IT.

BUT IT HAS GONE WELL, KIDS ARE SUBMITTING, I'M GOING TO CALL THEM VIDEO CLIPS, THERE'S A DIFFERENT PLATFORMS AND THE DIRECTORS AND INSTRUCTORS AND SPONSORS ARE GOING THROUGH THOSE PROCESSES.

SO WE DEVELOPED THIS PLAN.

WE HAD PHASED IN APPROACH FOR OPEN TO HIRE SURROUNDING OUR RESTRICTIONS AROUND ONBOARDING AND PAPERWORK FOR OUT OF DISTRICT HIRES.

WE HAVE PIVOTED TO A LETTER OF INTENT FOR OUT OF DISTRICT HIRES.

SO WE HAD AN OUT OF DISTRICT HIRE APPROVED TONIGHT, AND WE HAVE NOT YET SCHEDULED HER TO COME IN AND DO HER PAPERWORK, BUT WE HAVE PROVIDED A LETTER OF INTENT AS AN EXAMPLE.

SO WE BEGAN PARTNERING MORE HEAVILY WITH THE NORTH TEXAS FOOD BANK AND BEGAN A NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH MINNIE'S FOOD PANTRY AND HAVE BEEN ABLE TO PROVIDE LARGE FAMILY MULTIPLE DAY MEAL DISTRIBUTIONS TO FAMILIES ONCE PER WEEK.

WE'VE TRIED TO HAVE ONE ON THE EAST SIDE AND THEN ONE AT PLANO SENIOR HIGH, MORE CENTRALLY LOCATED.

THOSE HAVE SERVED AT AN AVERAGE BETWEEN 700 AND 1,000 FAMILIES EACH WEEK.

WE'VE ALSO, AS KERRY MENTIONED, CONTINUED THE FOOD FOR KIDS PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES SNACK FOODS FOR ELEMENTARY-AGED STUDENTS FOR WEEKENDS AND PARTNERED WITH OUR TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT, THOSE FOOD BAGS ARE DELIVERED TO STUDENTS HOMES EVERY OTHER WEEK.

OUR COUNSELING AND GUIDANCE MOVE TO A VIRTUAL DELIVERY MODEL, AND THAT INCLUDES THE THREE MAIN COMPONENTS, ACADEMIC SUCCESS, COLLEGE CAREER, MILITARY READINESS, AND SOCIAL EMOTIONAL GROWTH.

IN THE AREA OF SOCIAL EMOTIONAL GROWTH, THEY'VE CONTINUED TO REACH OUT TO INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS OR WORK WITH PARENTS FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE NEEDING EMOTIONAL SUPPORT DURING THIS TIME.

GUIDANCE LESSONS HAVE BEEN FOCUSED ALSO ON FEELINGS THAT STUDENTS ARE EXPERIENCING DURING REMOTE LEARNING AND HELPING THEM DEVELOP SOME COPING STRATEGIES.

THE COUNSELORS HAVE ALSO BEEN WORKING TO FACILITATE SOME REMOTE COMMUNITY BUILDING EVENTS TO CONTINUE CONNECTIONS FOR STUDENTS TO SCHOOL.

THEN ALSO, THEY HAVE CONTINUED GUIDANCE FOR COLLEGE APPLICATIONS, SCHOLARSHIP, AND FINANCIAL AID, AND HAVE CREATED SOME GUIDANCE LESSONS FOR YOUNGER GRADES AROUND COLLEGE EXPLORATION.

THE SMU COUNSELING CENTER ALSO MOVED TO PROVIDE SERVICES VIRTUALLY, AND IN FACT, EXPANDED SERVICES FOR OUR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES.

IN ADDITION TO THEIR INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING THAT THEY WERE PROVIDING, THEY NOW ARE OFFERING SMALL GROUP THERAPY SESSIONS ON RELEVANT TOPICS SUCH AS MANAGING STRESS, PEER SUPPORT GROUPS, AND MINDFULNESS PRACTICES.

DURING THIS TIME, ALL OF THEIR SERVICES ARE BEING PROVIDED AT NO COST TO OUR FAMILIES.

PLANOUP, WHICH IS OUR GRANT INITIATIVE THROUGH TEXAS HEALTH RESOURCES ALSO HAS A COUNSELING COMPONENT BOTH THROUGH CITY HOUSE AND LIFEPATH.

BOTH OF THOSE ORGANIZATIONS BEGAN OFFERING VIRTUAL SERVICES TO STUDENTS AND FAMILIES.

WE'VE HAD ABOUT 60 PERCENT OF THOSE WHO WERE PARTICIPATING CHOOSE TO CONTINUE TO PARTICIPATE REMOTELY.

ONE OF THE CHALLENGES THAT WE'VE RUN INTO, SO WE HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO SCREEN ANY NEW STUDENTS UNTIL THIS WEEK WHEN THE ONLINE SIGNATURE AND PERMISSION PROCESS WAS DEVELOPED BY UT SOUTHWESTERN.

SO WE'RE HOPEFUL NOW THAT OUR COUNSELORS AT OUR THREE SCHOOLS THAT ARE PARTICIPATING WILL BE ABLE TO ENROLL SOME ADDITIONAL STUDENTS BETWEEN NOW AND THE END OF SCHOOL.

THE COUNTY ASSISTANCE CENTER HEALTH NAVIGATOR, THAT'S ALSO FUNDED THROUGH THE PLANOUP PROGRAM, REACHES OUT TO EVERY FAMILY INVOLVED IN THAT PROGRAM ONCE PER WEEK.

AS I MENTIONED EARLIER, THE FOOD DISTRIBUTION THAT WE HAD ESTABLISHED WITH NORTH TEXAS FOOD BANK HAS IN FACT EXPANDED DURING THIS TIME TO INCLUDE FAMILIES ACROSS OUR DISTRICT.

IN THE AREA OF SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL LEARNING, THAT ALSO EXPANDED TO MOVE TO A VIRTUAL PLATFORM, AND LESSONS WERE DEVELOPED FOR STUDENTS, PARENTS AND STAFF, HELPING THEM EXPRESS EMOTIONS, STRENGTHENING RELATIONSHIPS, AND SUPPORTING ONE ANOTHER DURING THESE TIMES.

WE HAVE PARTNERED WITH TEXAS TECH, UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS, AND SOME OTHER VENDORS, ESPECIALLY FOR OUR FOREIGN LANGUAGE ASSESSMENTS, TO PROVIDE AT-HOME TESTING WITH ONLINE PROCTORING.

WE HAVE ALREADY DONE A FEW OF THESE IN TRIAL CASES WITH OUR GRADUATING SENIORS, AND THEY WENT WELL.

SO I THINK NOW WE'LL HAVE TO SCALE IT UP TO DO THIS ENLARGED SCALE COME MAY, JUNE, AND JULY.

WE ARE FAMILIAR WITH MOST OF THE ASSESSMENT CHANGES AND STAAR TESTING IS A MAJOR COMPONENT OF MOST OF OUR PROGRESS MONITORING WORK, IN ADDITION TO MAP.

WE ARE GOING TO LEVERAGE THAT FEATURE TO CREATE STAAR-LIKE MEASURES TO MEASURE CAMPUS PROGRESS.

WE ARE REQUIRED TO CREATE BOARD GOALS FOR THIRD-GRADE STAAR FOR MATH AND LITERACY, AS WELL AS COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS FOR THE GRADUATING CLASSES.

PART OF THAT WORK ALSO INCLUDES CREATING PROGRESS MONITORING MEASURES SO THAT OUR FIVE-YEAR PLAN, WHICH REALLY IS A FOUR-YEAR PLAN NOW BECAUSE THESE GOALS ARE TARGETED TO END OF 2024 SCHOOL YEAR.

ONE FINAL AREA THAT WE HAVE FOCUSED ON, IS CONTINUING TO EMPHASIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF PARTICIPATING IN THE 2020 CENSUS.

WORKING WITH REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE CITY OF PLANO TO SHARE INFORMATION AND MATERIALS THAT MAY HAVE OTHERWISE BEEN SHARED THROUGH OUR CAMPUSES IF SCHOOLS HAD NOT CLOSED.

WE'VE HAD CENSUS MATERIALS GO OUT WITH THE SCHOOL SUPPLY KITS FROM THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION.

WE'VE INCLUDED INFORMATION IN OUR REGULAR UPDATES OR DAILY UPDATES AND ON OUR WEBSITE.

WILL SCHOOL RESUME? WILL IT LOOK DIFFERENT? WILL IT BE THE SAME? SO WE DON'T KNOW THE ANSWER TO THAT.

SO WE'RE PLANNING FOR OPENING IF WE CAN, IF IT IS SAFE TO DO SO.

WE KNOW THAT WE WILL HAVE TO PUT SAFETY PROCEDURES IN PLACE THAT WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF DEVELOPING.

WE'LL HAVE TO HAVE A PLAN FOR WHAT IFS, AND WE ARE WORKING ON THOSE, AND WE'RE WORKING IN COLLABORATION WITH OTHER DISTRICT AROUND US, AND IN OUR REGION, AND ACROSS THE STATE SO THAT WE CAN BE PUTTING THE BEST IDEAS TOGETHER.

I SAID THIS BEFORE AND I'LL SAY IT AGAIN.

WE KNOW THAT THIS HAS NOT BEEN A PERFECT PLAN, BUT I HOPE YOU CAN SEE, AND WE KNOW THAT THE REMOTE LEARNING HAS SIGNIFICANT CHALLENGES TO IT.

WE ARE SYMPATHETIC TO THAT AND WE CARRY THAT LOAD, AND WE CARE ABOUT THAT, AND WE'RE DESPERATELY TRYING TO CONTINUE TO ADAPT, AND REVISE, AND WORK WITH OUR FAMILIES BASED ON FEEDBACK THAT WE'RE GETTING.

CRITICAL FEEDBACK IS CRITICAL.

SOMETIMES, IT'S HARD TO HEAR BUT IT'S EXACTLY WHAT YOU NEED TO HEAR.

SO THAT HELPS US IMPROVE.

IT SEEMS LIKE EVEN THOUGH WE GET A CRITICAL E-MAIL, THERE'S KIND WORDS EMBEDDED.

WE KNOW HOW HARD YOU'RE WORKING, BUT THIS IS WHAT IT'S BEEN FOR ME AND MY FAMILY.

SO WE'RE TRYING TO TAKE THAT ALL IN AND DO WHAT WE CAN TO HELP EASE THE BURDEN AND STILL PROVIDE SOME INSTRUCTIONAL CONTINUITY FOR KIDS.

THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO STAY COMMITTED TO DOING THE BEST WORK THAT WE CAN FOR OUR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES IN APPRECIATING EVERYTHING THAT THEY'VE DONE.

THIS IS TEACHERS APPRECIATION, NOT JUST FOR TEACHERS BUT FOR PARENTS WHO ARE STEPPING INTO HELP TEACHERS AT HOME THROUGH THIS EXPERIENCE BECAUSE EVERYONE IS A TEACHER IN THESE DAYS, AND WE APPRECIATE EVERY ONE OF THEM, AND I DON'T WANT TO MISS THAT OPPORTUNITY.

SO PLEASE KNOW THAT WE ARE MAKING PLANS, AND GRADUATION IS AT THE VERY FOREFRONT OF OUR WORK.

WE'RE WORKING ON IT EVERY DAY.

SO FOR ME, I AM VERY SENSITIVE TO THE LOSS THAT OUR FAMILY FEELS, KNOWING THAT, WE ARE GOING TO HAVE TO FIND A WAY AT HOME TO MAKE IT SPECIAL FOR SAM.

SO I CARRIED THAT WITH ME AND IN ALL OF THE THINKING THAT THE TEAM IS DOING IS WITH A HEART FOR KIDS AND FAMILIES TO DO WHAT'S RIGHT.

I KNOW IT'S TAKEN A LITTLE BIT OF TIME BUT I DID NOT WANT TO ROLL SOMETHING OUT AND THEN HAVE TO TAKE IT AWAY BECAUSE THE GOVERNOR'S ORDER WOULD SAY, "YOU CANNOT DO THAT.".
