ACTUALLY, PROBABLY INSTEAD OF THE WORK SESSION, WILL LIKELY BRING THOSE TO YOU AT THE BEGINNING OF OCTOBER.
WE WANT TO HAVE PLENTY OF TIME TO TAKE A LOOK AT ALL THE CAMPUS PLANS.

WAY BACK HERE AND SAY, AS TRUSTEES, I THINK THERE'S A LOT OF TIMES WHERE THE COMMUNITY DOES NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT OUR ROLE IS WITHIN THE SCHOOL DISTRICT.
I MEAN, I HAD A STUDENT THIS YEAR EMAILING ME ABOUT SCHOOL SUPPLY LISTS, ASKING WHERE HE COULD FIND THE SCHOOL SUPPLY LIST FOR HIS SCHOOL, OR PEOPLE THINK THAT WE ARE HVAC TECHNICIANS OR WHATEVER ELSE.
AS TRUSTEES, WE HAVE THIS ROLE OF GOVERNANCE AND OVERSIGHT, STRATEGIC PLANNING, THEN THIS STATUTORY ROLE OF GOAL SETTING.
THE WAY THAT WE AS A BOARD DO THIS IS THROUGH THINGS LIKE THE STRATEGIC PLANNING PROCESS.
NANCY AND I ARE THE ONLY TWO TRUSTEES CURRENTLY ON THE BOARD THAT WERE PART OF THAT PROCESS.
BUT WE WILL WORK THROUGH THAT PROCESS IN THE 27/28 SCHOOL YEAR, PRIOR TO ADOPTING THE NEXT FIVE YEAR STRATEGIC PLAN.
THAT'S ONE WAY, AND THAT'S THE PILLARS AND THE GOALS THAT EVERYBODY KNOWS ABOUT AND WHERE THAT COMES FROM.
THE SECOND IS THE POLICY, LISA TALKED ABOUT AE LOCAL, WHICH IS ONE THAT THE POLICY SUBCOMMITTEE WORKED ON LAST YEAR.
WE BROUGHT BACK OVER THE SUMMER TO THE BOARD FOR APPROVAL A COUPLE OF TIMES BECAUSE THERE WERE STILL SOME TWEAKS TO BE DONE THERE.
HOW THAT POLICY FEEDS INTO WORK ON THE ACADEMIC FRONT.
THEN THERE'S ALSO THE HOUSE BILL 3 GOALS, WHICH ARE IN STATUTE THAT THE BOARD IS REQUIRED TO ADOPT THOSE GOALS.
JUST TO LEVEL SET NOT ONLY US AND OUR NEW TRUSTEES, BUT OUR COMMUNITY IN TERMS OF WHAT OUR ROLE HERE IS IN GOVERNANCE AND OVERSIGHT, AND THIS PRESENTATION REALLY STARTED IN 2022, WITH THE BEGINNING OF THE STRATEGIC PLANNING PROCESS,

AND AS THE TEAM HAS GONE THROUGH SEVERAL YEARS IMPLEMENTING THAT STRATEGIC PLAN, HAVE MOVED DOWN THE LIST.IS THE GOALS FOR THIS YEAR BECAUSE AS PLANO, WE'RE GOING ABOVE AND BEYOND WHAT'S REQUIRED IN STATUTE IN TERMS OF GOAL SETTING.
THESE ARE THE COALESCENCE, IF YOU WILL, OF GOALS FROM THE STRATEGIC PLAN, HOUSE BILL 3 GOALS, GOALS INFORMED BY THAT POLICY AE LOCAL.
AS LISA HAS SAID, THESE ARE DRAFT GOALS.
IT'S STILL GOING TO GO BACK TO THE DBIC.
THIS IS A GREAT TIME FOR THOUGHTS, QUESTIONS, OPINIONS, IF YOU WAKE UP AT TWO O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING, AND YOU JUST THINK, MAN, I WISH I HAD SAID THAT, GET SOME FEEDBACK TO THE TEAM AND REALLY DIG IN BECAUSE AS TRUSTEES, THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS WE DO ON AN ANNUAL BASIS IS SET THESE GOALS AND HELP SET THESE GOALS FOR THE DISTRICT.
I JUST WANTED TO LEVEL SET NOT ONLY FOR OUR NEW TRUSTEES, BUT FOR OUR COMMUNITY TO UNDERSTAND THE BROADER SCOPE OF THIS WORK IN THIS PERSPECTIVE.
I SEE THE SUPERINTENDENT, I THINK HAS A FOLLOW UP COMMENT, AND THEN WE'LL START WITH COMMENTS AND QUESTIONS.

THOSE ARE OUR THREE PRIORITIES THAT'S PART OF OUR NEWLY ADOPTED AE LOCAL THEORY OF ACTION WORK, REALLY, THAT ALIGNS WITH ACCOUNTABILITY, BOTH STATE AND FEDERAL.
IT ALSO ALIGNS WITH OUR OWN DISTRICT STANDARD THAT EVERY STUDENT'S GOING TO BE READY FOR COLLEGE AND CAREER.
WHEN WE BRING BACK THE DATA, THAT DATA IS DIRECTLY CONNECTED RIGHT BACK TO THESE GOALS.

IT'S VERY IMPORTANT THAT INCLUDING WITH OUR DISTRICT BASED IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEES, WHICH WE HAVE PARENTS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS ON THAT ADVISORY COMMITTEE HELPING US WITH THOSE THINGS.
IT'S VERY IMPORTANT TO SET THESE GOALS AND TO DECIDE WHAT WE'RE GOING TO DO TO MEET THEM AND THEN TO BRING BACK TO YOU TO THE COMMIT THE MEASUREMENTS TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE REACHING THOSE GOALS.

WE NEED THE PARENTS TO HELP ALSO THOUGH AND MAKE SURE FROM WHATEVER THEY'RE ABLE TO DO THAT THEY ARE HELPING FACILITATE THAT AND HELPING US INSTILL IN THEIR CHILDREN [NOISE] THE IMPORTANCE OF PUTTING IN EFFORT AND PUTTING IN THE TIME THAT'S NEEDED TO IMPROVE THEIR PERFORMANCE AND TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY'RE GETTING THAT GROWTH, AND THAT IS A TWO WAY STREET.
IT CAN'T BE DONE JUST HERE IN OUR SCHOOLS.
IT RELIES ON A SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT AT HOME AS WELL.
I WOULD JUST ASK EVERYONE AT HOME VIEW OUR TEACHERS AND OUR ADMINISTRATION AS PARTNERS IN THIS PROCESS.
WE'RE ALL WORKING TOWARD THE SAME GOAL TOGETHER.

WELL, I DON'T WANT TO SAY WE DON'T TEACH ANYTHING.
WE DON'T TEACH STUDENTS IN OUR FACILITY.
THIS IS REALLY DISTRICT WORK THAT SUPPORTS THE CAMPUS WORK, THAT SUPPORTS THE CLASSROOM WORK, AND THAT'S WHERE IT ALL CONNECTS.
BUT IT ALSO GOES ALONG WITH SOME OF THE LITERACY AND MATH CAMPAIGN PIECES THAT YOU'LL SEE, SIMPLE THINGS OF EVERY NIGHT, STUDENTS READING 20 MINUTES OF THEIR OWN.
THERE'S SO MUCH RESEARCH OUT THERE TO SUPPORT THE BENEFITS OF HAVING THAT DEDICATED TIME FOR A STUDENT JUST TO CHOOSE A BOOK OR WHATEVER IS OF THEIR INTERESTS TO READ.
EVEN HAVING READING OUT LOUD WITH YOUR CHILD EVERY NIGHT BEFORE BEDTIME, THAT'S JUST ONE EXAMPLE.
HOW CAN PARENTS HELP STUDENTS SET REALISTIC GOALS FOR THEMSELVES? THERE'S A LOT OF STRATEGIES THAT YOU'LL SEE THAT WE'LL BE SHARING THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA, THROUGH OUR CLASSROOM TEACHERS.
OUR CAMPUSES DO A GREAT JOB OF THAT.
BUT THOSE ARE THE LITTLE THINGS WHERE PARENTS CAN PARTNER WITH US TO HELP SUPPORT THEIR STUDENTS AT HOME.
