I'D LIKE TO INTRODUCE MY FELLOW TRUSTEES AND STAFF SEATED AT THE DAIS TO MY LEFT, SUPERINTENDENT DR.
THERESA WILLIAMS, BOARD SECRETARY, JERI CHAMBERS, BOARD MEMBER.
TARRAH LANTZ, TRUSTEE KATHERINE GOODWIN.
AND TRUSTEE MICHAEL COOK SEATED TO MY RIGHT, VICE PRESIDENT DR.
LAUREN TYRA. TRUSTEE ANGELA POWELL IS PROBABLY TRYING TO GET A PARKING SPACE.
AND JOHNNY HILL, DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT FOR BUSINESS AND EMPLOYEE SERVICES, IS NEXT.
IS LISA WILSON COMING? YEAH, LISA WILSON IS ON HER WAY.
DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT OF TEACHING, LEARNING AND LIFE READINESS.
AND DR. PATRICK TANNER, ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT FOR TECHNOLOGY SERVICES.
DR. COURTNEY GOBER, ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT FOR STUDENT, FAMILY AND COMMUNITY SERVICES.
DANNY STOCKTON, CHIEF OF STAFF.
AND SHARON NOWAK, EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT TO THE SUPERINTENDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES.
THIS EVENING, WE ARE TRULY HONORED TO HAVE THE TITAN AMBASSADORS FROM THE ACADEMY HIGH SCHOOL LEAD US IN THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE UNITED STATES AND TEXAS FLAGS.
WOULD EVERYONE PLEASE STAND AND Y'ALL COME FORWARD? ALLEGIANCE] ALL RIGHT. COULD I GET YOU GUYS TO COME BACK UP? WE'LL INTRODUCE YOU.
AND I THINK MISS KENNEDY HAS A MICROPHONE.
SO WE APPRECIATE YOU JOINING US THIS EVENING.
PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELVES AND TELL US ABOUT THE TITANS AMBASSADOR PROGRAM, PLEASE.
MY NAME IS FERNANDA AND I'M A SENIOR IN ACADEMY HIGH SCHOOL.
HI. MY NAME IS HANNAH, AND I'M A JUNIOR AT ACADEMY HIGH SCHOOL.
HI, I'M LIAM, AND I'M A JUNIOR AT ACADEMY HIGH.
HELLO, I'M BRIANNA, I'M A SENIOR AT ACADEMY HIGH SCHOOL.
SO BASICALLY WHAT ACADEMY IS WE ARE A FOUR YEAR STEM BASED ACADEMY, AND WE HAVE ALL HAD THE WONDERFUL PRIVILEGE BY OUR PRINCIPAL TO COME HERE AND BASICALLY INTRODUCE YOU TO ACADEMY. SO BECAUSE ACADEMY IS STEM BASED, WE ARE PROJECT BASED.
AND BASICALLY WE LEARN ALL THE WAY THROUGH PROJECTS.
LIAM, WOULD YOU DO THE HONORS OF EXPLAINING SOME OF THE PROJECTS FOR US? OKAY. SO OUR FIRST YEAR PROJECTS, WE BEGIN WITH FARM TO TABLE, WHERE WE SIMULATE A BUSINESS AND CREATE A PRODUCT, AND WE DO A WHOLE BUSINESS PLAN FOR SECOND YEAR PROJECT.
SO ONE OF OUR BIG PROJECTS SECOND YEAR IS CALLED CHANGE THE GAME, WHERE WE BASICALLY JUST GET TO CREATE A VIDEO GAME AND WE GET TO END UP PRESENTING IT AT THE END OF THE NINE WEEKS.
AND THEN FOR UPPERCLASSMEN, FOR EXAMPLE, THIRD YEAR, WE DO SOMETHING CALLED KACHING WHICH IS BASICALLY, AGAIN, LIKE ANOTHER BUSINESS PLAN, BUT WE ACTUALLY GET TO WORK WITH DIFFERENT INVESTORS THAT HELP INVEST IN OUR PRODUCTS.
AND THAT'S AN AMAZING OPPORTUNITY THAT WE HADN'T BEEN ABLE TO GET OTHERWISE.
BREE, WOULD YOU DO THE HONORS OF EXPLAINING THE COMMITTEES TO THEM? SO WE ARE DIVIDED INTO NUMEROUS COMMITTEES.
ONE OF THEM IS DEDICATED TO CARING, ANOTHER ONE OF THEM INVOLVES TECHNOLOGY.
WE ARE REALLY FOCUSED ON ENSURING THAT EVERY STUDENT IS SUPPORTED.
PARDON? THAT EACH STUDENT IS SUPPORTED AND THAT WE ARE CARING FOR OUR STUDENTS BECAUSE THEY ARE OUR NUMBER ONE PRIORITY ABOVE EVERYTHING ELSE BECAUSE AS LONG AS WE TAKE CARE OF THEM AND THEY CAN TAKE CARE OF THEIR SCHOOLWORK AND THEY CAN ACCOMPLISH ALL THEIR DREAMS AND ALL THEIR GOALS.
[00:05:01]
AND JUST COMPLETING EVERYTHING THAT WE WANT TO AND MORE.AND ONE OF THE MAIN THINGS ABOUT ACADEMY IS THAT WE CREATE A COMMUNITY BETWEEN US.
FOR EXAMPLE, IN APRIL I WILL HAVE THE HONOR OF GOING ALL THE WAY TO NASA AND PRESENTING WITH ASTRONAUTS AND FELLOW TEAMMATES, WITH PRESENTING THE IDEA THAT I WAS ABLE TO CREATE FOR THEM TO ACTUALLY BE ABLE TO SEND THEM INTO SPACE.
NOW, THESE OPPORTUNITIES, THEY'RE NOT OFFERED AT A TYPICAL HIGH SCHOOL.
HEY, STUDENTS, IS YOUR PRINCIPAL IN THE ROOM? YEAH. GIVE US A WAVE.
CATHY GASCHEN. SO I WILL TURN THIS OVER TO MY FELLOW TRUSTEES.
I DON'T KNOW IF YOU CAN, LIKE, SAY ANYTHING BETTER THAN WHAT THEY JUST SAID.
WELL, THAT'S WHAT I WAS GOING TO SAY.
IS THAT WHAT I CONSTANTLY HEAR FROM PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY ABOUT THE ACADEMY HIGH SCHOOL, FROM BUSINESSES LIKE PEOPLE AT TOYOTA, IS THAT YOU CAN GIVE PRESENTATIONS AS STUDENTS BETTER THAN SOME OF THEIR OWN EMPLOYEES.
SO KUDOS TO YOU FOR WORKING SO HARD AND WORKING TOGETHER AS A TEAM.
WHO ELSE WAS A SENIOR? YAY! WELL, CONGRATULATIONS AND GOOD LUCK CONTAINING THAT SENIORITIS NOW THAT SPRING BREAKS OVER.
WELL, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING HERE TONIGHT.
AND WE LOVED WHAT YOU HAD TO PRESENT.
WE'RE SO IMPRESSED WITH YOU AND YOUR ABILITY TO ARTICULATE WHAT YOU'RE DOING AT ACADEMY.
I THINK EVERYBODY IN THE ROOM LEARNED SOMETHING.

PRESIDENT HUMPHREY, I'D LIKE TO INVITE DIRECTOR FOR FINE ARTS, DR.
PHILLIP MORGAN, TO THE PODIUM TO LEAD US THROUGH THIS FIRST RECOGNITION.
WILLIAMS AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES.
I KNOW I SENT OUT AN EMAIL AND EVERYBODY KNOWS BECAUSE IT'S ALL OVER OUR SOCIAL MEDIA.
AND WE CERTAINLY APPRECIATE OUR STAFF HERE AT CENTRAL OFFICE SENDING IT OUT.
BUT MARCH IS ARTS IN OUR SCHOOLS MONTH, AND WE ARE VERY BLESSED AND HAPPY AND THANKFUL TO YOU ALL AS TRUSTEES FOR THE AMOUNT OF SUPPORT THAT YOU PUT IN BOTH VERBALLY AND IN PRESENT. AS WE CAN SEE, I SAW A LOT OF Y'ALL AT OUR EVENTS AND AT STATE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.
WE KNOW THAT YOU SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS SO VERY MUCH.
EXCUSE ME, WHO ARE MEMBERS OF PLANO ISD, TMEA ALL-STATE BAND, ORCHESTRA AND CHOIR STUDENTS.
EACH YEAR, MUSIC STUDENTS ENTER A RIGOROUS AUDITION PROCESS THAT BEGINS IN JULY OR AUGUST, WHEN AUDITION MATERIALS ARE RELEASED AND THEN STUDENTS ADVANCE FROM REGION TO AREA TO STATE LEVEL FROM OCTOBER THROUGH JANUARY, AND THE FINAL AUDITIONS TAKE PLACE IN EARLY JANUARY EACH YEAR, IN WHICH STUDENTS ARE SELECTED TO PERFORM AS A MEMBER OF THE TEXAS MUSIC EDUCATORS ALL-STATE ENSEMBLES.
THERE'S ABOUT 18 ENSEMBLES IN THE STATE.
AND JUST TO PUT IT IN PERSPECTIVE ABOUT HOW SPECIAL THE STUDENTS ARE, YOU'RE GOING TO SEE TONIGHT, THERE'S A LOT OF STUDENTS THAT DIDN'T MAKE IT THAT WERE RIGHT ON THE CUSP ALL ACROSS THE STATE.
AND OF THE 70,000, ABOUT 1,800 MAKE THE CUT.
IT'S AMAZING. AND TO HEAR THEM IS JUST PHENOMENAL.
SO BEFORE I GET INTO THAT, I DON'T WANT TO STEAL THEIR THUNDER.
I HAVE TWO OF OUR COORDINATORS HERE IN THE FINE ARTS DEPARTMENT AS WELL.
BUT AT THIS TIME, I'D LIKE TO INVITE MR. JEREMY KONDRAT, OUR COORDINATOR FOR INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC, TO THE PODIUM, TO RECOGNIZE THOSE INDIVIDUAL ALL-STATE INSTRUMENTALISTS AND MUSICIANS IN BAND, JAZZ BAND AND ORCHESTRA.
TYRA WILL PRESENT YOU ALL WITH A CERTIFICATE.
THANK YOU ALSO TO OUR STAFF MEMBERS FOR JOINING US.
OUR JAZZ BAND AND BAND STUDENTS WILL BEGIN WITH MR. NOLAN BRANDELAND. [APPLAUSE] AND FRIENDS, IF WE COULD HOLD OUR APPLAUSE UNTIL THE END OF THIS LIST, THAT WILL PROBABLY HELP US GET OUT OF HERE BY MIDNIGHT.
AND MR. KONDRAT. TYLER BRISTOL.
PLEASE HELP ME CONGRATULATE THESE STUDENTS.
THEY WERE SELECTED FOR THE BAND AND OR THE JAZZ BAND DOWN AT TMEA THIS YEAR.
[APPLAUSE] I'LL LET PARENTS TAKE A PICTURE IF THEY NEED TO COME UP.

IF ANYBODY NEEDS TO SIT, THERE'S SEVERAL SEATS UP FRONT.
[00:15:14]
THEY LOOK GREAT, DON'T THEY? ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU STUDENTS.IF YOU GUYS WANT TO HAVE A SEAT, THEN WE'LL HONOR OUR ORCHESTRA.

THANK YOU TO THE STAFF FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGEMENT.
AND THANK YOU TO OUR DISTRICT FOR THEIR INCREDIBLE SUPPORT OF OUR MUSIC PROGRAMS AS WELL.
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, ONE MORE ROUND OF APPLAUSE FOR THE ORCHESTRA ALL-STATE STUDENTS.
[APPLAUSE] ALL RIGHT. MR. KONDRAT BRINGS UP A GREAT POINT, TOO.
AND SINCE I GET TO TOUCH THE MIC ONE MORE TIME, I DO WANT TO SAY A BIG THANK YOU TOO.
IT DOES TAKE AN ARMY, AND NO GREATER THAN THE TWO GENTLEMEN WHO ARE SITTING HERE IN THE FRONT BETWEEN MR. KONDRAT AND MR. JENNINGS.
I DON'T KNOW IF YOU GUYS HAVE EVER SEEN WHAT A TMEA ROOM LIST LOOKS LIKE, BUT WE HAVE TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO NAVIGATE AND GET EVERYBODY IN A HOTEL ROOM AND GET THEM TO SAN ANTONIO AND MAKE SURE THAT THEY'RE IN BED WHEN THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE.
SO THE LOGISTICS ARE ABSOLUTELY WILD.
SO IF WE COULD JUST GIVE THEM A ROUND OF APPLAUSE.
ALL RIGHT, WITH THAT BEING SAID, MR. KONDRAT, THANK YOU SO MUCH AND CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR INSTRUMENTALISTS.
AT THAT TIME, I'LL TRANSITION OVER TO MR. TERRENCE JENNINGS, OUR COORDINATOR FOR K-12 VOCAL MUSIC, TO RECOGNIZE OUR INDIVIDUAL ALL-STATE VOCAL MUSICIANS.

[APPLAUSE] OUR DEPARTMENT'S FINAL CELEBRATION THIS EVENING IS IN RECOGNITION OF THE PLANO WEST SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY CHORALE, WHICH WAS SELECTED AS A TMEA HIGH SCHOOL INVITED ENSEMBLE FOR 2024 TMEA STATE CONFERENCE.

IT'S NOT A COMPETITION, BUT IF IT WAS, WE WON.
SO GREAT JOB, STUDENTS AND DIRECTORS.
AND SO I WANT TO INVITE YOU ALL TO THE FRONT.
OUR DIRECTOR FOR THE PLANO WEST CHORALE IS SARA COUNCIL.
AND SHE ALSO HAS BROUGHT HER STUDENT LEADERSHIP.
AND WE WILL GIVE THEM A CHANCE TO INTRODUCE THEMSELVES.
AND WE THOUGHT THOSE ARE KIDS.
SO THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPRESENTATION OF EXCELLENCE IN CHORAL MUSIC.
[APPLAUSE] I'M SORRY. DID YOU SAY YOUR NAME? SENIOR OR YOU'RE GOING.
OKAY. COOL. HELLO, I AM JASPER GRIZZLE.
I AM A SENIOR AND I WILL BE GOING TO WICHITA STATE, KANSAS.
I'M A SENIOR AND I'M GOING TO WEST TEXAS A&M.
BOSS. I'M NIKHIL P[INAUDIBLE].

I'M A SENIOR, AND I'M TRYING TO GO TO MIAMI UNIVERSITY.
I'M LANDRY ARMQUIST, I'M A SENIOR, AND I'M GOING TO TEXAS TECH UNIVERSITY IN AUSTIN.
I'M A SENIOR, AND I'M GOING TO TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY.

AND I'VE HEARD Y'ALL PERFORM, AND IT'S JUST AWE INSPIRING.
IT DOESN'T SOUND LIKE THEY'RE CHILDREN.
SO I WILL INVITE MY COLLEAGUES ON THE BOARD TO MAKE ANY COMMENTARY THAT THEY MIGHT HAVE.
KATHERINE, I'D JUST LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU.
AND I AM SO GLAD THAT Y'ALL TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO OTHER THINGS BESIDES JUST ACADEMICS, BECAUSE I TRULY BELIEVE THAT ALL THE THINGS THAT YOU'VE DONE TO ACHIEVE WHAT YOU HAVE, THE DISCIPLINE, THE COLLABORATION THE ABILITY TO GET PAST
[00:25:10]
NERVES AND TO PERFORM WILL SERVE YOU WELL IN LIFE.SO I THANK YOU FOR TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THAT OPPORTUNITY AND WISH YOU WELL AND CONGRATULATIONS.
AND I'M GOING TO TELL THOSE PARENTS I'VE BEEN IN YOUR CAR.
I'VE BEEN THERE, I'VE BEEN ON THE COLD AND IN THE HOT AND OUTSIDE AND RUSHING SOMEWHERE TO DELIVER A PACKAGE OR SOMETHING THAT SOMETHING SOMEBODY LOST OR FORGOT.
SO WE APPRECIATE ALL THAT YOU DO FOR YOUR STUDENTS.
MOST OF ALL THE LOVE AND SUPPORT THAT YOU GIVE THEM AND OUR PROFESSIONALS, OUR TEACHERS, OUR STAFF MEMBERS THAT HELP OUR KIDS DO ALL THESE GREAT THINGS.
I'LL JUST SAY ONE QUICK THING.
MANY PEOPLE WILL NOT KNOW I WAS ALL-STATE ORCHESTRA MYSELF, WAY, WAY, WAY BACK IN THE DAY.
BUT I WOULD JUST LIKE A SPECIAL SHOUT OUT TO THE PARENTS.
IT GOES UNAPPRECIATED THE AMOUNT OF TIME YOU FORCE YOUR KIDS TO PRACTICE.
THE TIME THAT YOU TAKE YOUR KIDS ALL OVER THE PLACE.
AND I REALLY DO JUST WANT TO PUT A SPECIAL SHOUT OUT TO THE FOLKS THAT REALLY, REALLY MAKE THAT EFFORT BECAUSE I THINK I PLAYED THE VIOLIN FROM THIRD GRADE TO HIGH SCHOOL. AND SO I KNOW THE AMOUNT OF LIFT THAT THAT REQUIRES.
THANKS. DO YOU KNOW I WAS A BAND MOM AND AN ORCHESTRA MOM.
AND THE THING IS THAT I KNOW HOW AMAZING YOU ARE.
SO, STUDENTS YOU ARE AMAZING TO BE HERE.
AND PARENTS, YOU'RE EVEN BETTER.
ALL RIGHT. WELL, I ECHO ALL OF THOSE COMMENTS AND WE'RE SO EXCITED TO CELEBRATE YOU.
WE LOVE THIS PART OF OUR MEETING WHEN WE DO RECOGNITION.
SO THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING HERE.
PRESIDENT. WELL, I WAS GOING TO SAY, DO WE HAVE ANY MORE ACHIEVEMENTS TO CELEBRATE THIS EVENING? WE DO. SO WE HAVE ONE OTHER BIG RECOGNITION, JUST LIKE THE ONE BEFORE.
WE HAVE AMAZING KIDS THAT NOT ONLY ARE ACADEMICALLY HAVING SUCCESS IN THE CLASSROOM, BUT THEY'RE ALSO WINNING ALL SORTS OF STATE AWARDS AND RECOGNITIONS. AND SO I WOULD LIKE TO INVITE OUR DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS, JEFF SMITH, TO THE PODIUM FOR OUR NEXT RECOGNITION.
THANK YOU, DR. WILLIAMS. THANK YOU, BOARD OF TRUSTEES, PRESIDENT HUMPHREY.
YOU'RE RIGHT. YOU GUYS SAID IT.
WHAT AN AWESOME NIGHT IT IS TO RECOGNIZE THESE AMAZING STUDENTS AND NOT JUST ATHLETES.
THESE FINE ARTS STUDENTS ARE AMAZING.
WE'VE GOT THE BEST JOB IN THE WORLD TO GET A CHANCE TO GO WATCH THESE KIDS DO WHAT THEY DO WELL.
AND SO WE'RE VERY PROUD OF THEM.
THEY DESERVE IT. AND I WILL SAY THIS.
I KNOW IT'S BEEN SAID A LOT, BUT THANK YOU.
AND, PARENTS, WE APPRECIATE YOU TRUSTING US WITH YOUR KIDS EVERY DAY.
WE HAVE A LOT OF COACHES IN THE ROOM.
WE'VE GOT SOME GREAT PRINCIPALS IN THE ROOM TONIGHT.
I KNOW WE GOT MR. JONES OVER AT PLANO EAST, MR. BANNER OVER AT PLANO SENIOR.
AND I DON'T KNOW IF MISS WILLIAMS. I DIDN'T SEE HER, BUT I KNOW WE GOT SOME PLANO WEST FOLKS HERE.
WE APPRECIATE THAT WHOLE ADMIN TEAM.
AND SO THANK YOU GUYS AS WELL.
I'VE GOT WE'VE GOT A FEW GROUPS TO RECORD, A COUPLE OF GROUPS TO RECOGNIZE TONIGHT.
WRESTLING IS JUST IT'S GROWING SO FAST IN TEXAS AND ESPECIALLY ON THE FEMALE SIDE.
AND IN OUR DISTRICT, IF YOU'RE NOT AWARE, IN SIX, SIX, A IS JUST DIFFICULT.
I MEAN, IT'S JUST VERY, VERY CHALLENGING.
WE HAVE THE BEST WRESTLERS IN THE STATE, JUST IN OUR DISTRICT.
AND THEN ON TO THE STATE LEVEL.
JUST I GUESS IT'S BEEN A LITTLE ABOUT 4 OR 5 WEEKS AGO, WE HAD THE STATE WRESTLING MEET.
IT WAS DOWN IN HOUSTON AT THE BERRY CENTER.
AND YOU'VE GOT MATS LINED UP ON THE FLOOR, AND THERE'S KIDS WRESTLING NONSTOP ALL DAY LONG.
I MEAN, YOU'VE GOT TO WORK YOUR WAY THROUGH A BRACKET.
[00:30:09]
SO I'M GOING TO HAVE THESE THREE COME UP.RILEY DAVIS, COME ON UP AND COACHES, COME ON UP WITH THEM TOO.
[APPLAUSE] WE'LL TALK A LITTLE BIT.
TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT RILEY REAL QUICK WHILE HANDING SOME AWARDS HERE.
RILEY IS A SENIOR AT PLANO SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL.
SHE'S THERE WITH COACH RETTKE.
COACH MCNEELY RIGHT HERE WALKING UP.
SHE FINISHED SECOND. SHE ALSO FINISHED SECOND AT REGIONALS.
AND THEN AT STATE SHE GOT FOURTH PLACE.
SHE WAS EVERY MATCH THAT SHE WRESTLED WERE VERY, VERY CLOSE.
SHE COULD HAVE EASILY PLACED HIGHER.
SO VERY PROUD OF HER AND WISH HER WELL.
AND I KNOW SHE'S A SENIOR. SO LET'S GIVE A ROUND OF APPLAUSE FOR RILEY DAVIS.
[APPLAUSE] NEXT UP WE GOT PLANO EAST TALAAL HABIB, COME ON UP. TALAAL.
[APPLAUSE] JOINING TALAAL IS A COACH PETERSON AND HE'S OUR HEAD COACH AT PLANO EAST.
AND MAN WE'RE GOING TO MISS THIS KID.
HE'S BEEN AROUND THIS. HE'S ALSO A SENIOR AND WE'VE WATCHED HIM WRESTLE FOR MANY YEARS.
WHAT JUNIOR. OH MY GOSH I'M SORRY.
WELL GOOD. WE GOT YOU BACK. THAT'S GOOD.
HE'S THAT GOOD. AND SO I'M THANKFUL TO HEAR THAT.
SO HE WAS FIRST PLACE IN DISTRICT.
HE GOT FIRST PLACE IN OUR DISTRICT, WHICH, YOU KNOW, WAS A BIG DEAL.
AND THEN HE GOT SECOND AT REGIONALS.
AND IF YOU DON'T, YOU KNOW AND THE SAME THING THAT HAPPENED WITH RILEY, IF YOU DON'T IF YOU LOSE A MATCH EARLY, YOU'VE GOT TO WRESTLE ALL YOUR WAY, ALL THE WAY BACK, AND YOU'VE GOT A MUCH HARDER ROAD TO GET BACK TO MEDAL.
AND ALL THREE OF OUR WRESTLERS DID THAT THIS YEAR.
AND HE WAS IN THE 120 WEIGHT CLASS.
AND MAN, JUST AN AWESOME YOUNG MAN.
SO LET'S GIVE IT UP FOR TALAAL HABIB.
[APPLAUSE] HE GOT GOOD POINTS.
GOOD POINTS AT STAKE. GOOD JOB.
HE FINISHED FIFTH. AND LAST ONE KENNETH CHECKON.
KENNETH, COME ON UP PLANO WEST SENIOR HIGH.
[APPLAUSE] KENNETH IS JUST A SOPHOMORE, SO WE'VE GOT KENNETH FOR TWO MORE YEARS.
GOT TWO MORE YEARS. AND KENNETH I KNOW WENT TO THE STATE MEET LAST YEAR AND FINISHED WELL DID WELL, BUT THIS YEAR REALLY SURPASSED THAT TOOK IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL. WRESTLING THE 132 WEIGHT CLASS WAS FIRST IN DISTRICT.
DID A GREAT JOB THERE. WON DISTRICT WAS THIRD IN THE REGION AND ENDED UP THIRD AT STATE.
SO GOT IN THE TOP THREE, WHICH WAS A BIG DEAL.
GO AHEAD. YEAH. ROUND OF APPLAUSE.
[APPLAUSE] I WATCHED KENNETH WRESTLE THAT FIRST MATCH AT THE STATE.
AND MAN, IT WAS A IT WAS THE TOP.
IT WAS THE NUMBER ONE RANKED, I BELIEVE GOING INTO THE STATE TOURNAMENT AND LOST JUST BY ONE POINT.
AND SO REALLY HAD A CHANCE AND WRESTLE REALLY.
BUT WRESTLED ALL THE WAY BACK AND GOT THIRD PLACE SAYS A LOT ABOUT KENNETH.
AND SO LET'S GIVE KENNETH ONE MORE ROUND OF APPLAUSE.
I THINK WE'RE GOING TO I'M GOING TO INTRODUCE A SPECIAL BASKETBALL TEAM THAT'S HERE TONIGHT.
AND THEY'RE ALL THE TALLEST GUYS IN THE ROOM, OR AT LEAST MOST OF THEM.
BUT WE WANT TO RECOGNIZE THEM TONIGHT.
WE DO HAVE A VIDEO BEFORE I BRING THEM UP.
AND I'VE GOT A LOT OF THINGS TO SAY ABOUT THEM, BUT THIS BASKETBALL TEAM FROM PLANO EAST THAT EVERYBODY'S BEEN FOLLOWING WE WANT TO RECOGNIZE TONIGHT AND WE'LL START WITH THE VIDEO.
TELL THEM YOUR NAME. [CHEERING]
[00:35:18]
SO LET'S HAVE THOSE SIX STATE CHAMPION PLANO EAST PANTHERS COME ON UP.YOU GUYS COME ON UP HERE. [APPLAUSE] STAND UP.
OKAY, SO WHILE THESE GUYS ARE GETTING SITUATED, LET ME TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THIS TEAM.
GUYS IT IS INCREDIBLY HARD IN THE STATE OF TEXAS.
IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU'RE IN, FINE ARTS, ATHLETICS, IT DOESN'T MATTER.
LET ME TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THEIR RECORD.
THEY FINISHED THE SEASON 40 AND 0.
LET'S GET. THEY ARE THE FIRST TEAM STATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN PLANO EAST HISTORY.
OKAY, SO THAT'S A BIG MILESTONE.
SO, FIRST TIME IN PLANO EAST HISTORY, THEY'RE THE FIRST UNDEFEATED TEAM IN 6A HISTORY.
FIRST TO DO IT AT ALL AT THE HIGHEST 6A AT THE HIGHEST CLASSIFICATION SINCE 2007.
THEY FINISHED THE YEAR THE NUMBER ONE STATE RANKED TEAM.
THEY FINISHED THE SEASON THE NUMBER THREE NATIONAL RANKED TEAM IN MAXPREPS.
THEY FINISHED NUMBER 13 IN THE ESPN, NUMBER TWO IN USA TODAY.
AND I LOVE THIS STAT NINE STUDENTS MAINTAINED A 4.0 OR BETTER GPA.
HOW ABOUT THAT? [APPLAUSE] I THINK WHEN YOU GO AROUND SOME OF THE THINGS BEFORE I LET COACH WESTER, YOU KNOW, GET IT GOING HERE.
WHENEVER YOU HEAR PEOPLE TALK ABOUT THIS TEAM.
TO SEE THE EMOTION, THE RAW EMOTION OF THAT MOMENT YOU KNOW, THESE GUYS SEE, YOU KNOW, FOUR YEARS OF HARD WORK AND A JOURNEY THAT'S TAKEN THEM TO THAT MOMENT. AND YOU CAN IMAGINE THE BONDS THAT ARE CREATED WITHIN THAT TEAM AND WITHIN THOSE COACHES AND QUITE HONESTLY, IN THE WHOLE EAST SIDE COMMUNITY.
IF YOU WENT TO GAMES, WHICH I KNOW MANY OF YOU DID, THE EAST SIDE SHOWED UP.
I MEAN, THE GAMES WERE PACKED.
THEY TRAVELED TO SAN ANTONIO TO SEE THIS OCCASION.
AND SO I THINK A LOT OF PEOPLE, WHEN YOU HEAR THEM TALK ABOUT THIS TEAM, THEY JUST TALK ABOUT WHAT A GREAT TEAM THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST TEAMS THAT THEY'VE SEEN BECAUSE THEY PLAY SO WELL TOGETHER, WHICH IS A TESTAMENT TO THE COACHES AND THE KIDS.
THESE PLAYERS AND COACHES REALLY CARE ABOUT EACH OTHER.
THAT'S REALLY INSPIRING TO A LOT OF PEOPLE.
IF YOU'VE WATCHED THIS TEAM, EVERYBODY CONTRIBUTES.
EVERYONE. AND THAT'S WHAT BEING ON A TEAM IS ALL ABOUT.
YOU KNOW THEY SHARED THE BALL.
THESE GUYS DIDN'T CARE WHO GETS THE CREDIT.
THEY ALL WANT EACH OTHER TO SUCCEED.
JUST SO JUST VERY PROUD OF THEM.
SO YOU GET TO KNOW WHO THEY ALL ARE.
THANKS, COACH SMITH. THAT MEANS A LOT.
I'M MATT WESTER, I'M THE HEAD BOYS BASKETBALL COACH HERE.
AND THEN WE'RE GOING TO PASS THE MIC AND EVERYONE'S GOING TO INTRODUCE THEMSELVES.
I'M KAYLEE HATCHER, I'M THE MANAGER.
MY NAME IS GABBY KLINGER, I'M A MANAGER.
I'M ISAIAH BREWINGTON, I'M A SENIOR.
I'M [INAUDIBLE] AND I'M A SENIOR.
I'M RASHAD [INAUDIBLE], AND I'M A SENIOR.
I'M KARA CAMPBELL, AND I'M A MANAGER.
I'M KINSLEY SLAUGHTER AND I'M AN ATHLETIC TRAINER.
I'M GREG THOMAS, ASSISTANT COACH.
I'M MICHAEL GODWIN, ASSISTANT COACH.
I'M MUSTAFA ABANIL, I'M A SOPHOMORE.
I'M MONTE [INAUDIBLE], AND I'M A SENIOR.
I'M XAVIER MILLER AND I'M A SENIOR.
[00:40:03]
DJ HALL, JUNIOR.I'M A SENIOR. I'M ETHAN MOSS, AND I'M A SENIOR.
THEY'RE OBVIOUSLY THEY'RE GREAT FRIENDS.
I LOVED MY KIDS GOT TO SEE THAT.
OUR AVERAGE MARGIN OF VICTORY WAS 24 POINTS A GAME WHEN HE PLAYED.
[APPLAUSE] YEAH. THERE ARE SEVEN PLAYOFF GAMES TO WIN THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, AND OUR MARGIN OF VICTORY IN THOSE SEVEN PLAYOFF GAMES WERE 22 POINTS. AND SO WE ONLY PLAY IN 40 GAMES.
WE WON ALL 40 OF THEM AND ONLY WON FIVE OF THEM BY LESS THAN TEN POINTS.
YOU KNOW, THERE'S NO DOUBT THAT THIS IS THE BEST TEAM IN TEXAS.
SO I'M PROUD TO BE THEIR COACH.
[APPLAUSE] YOU WON'T HAVE THEM SIT DOWN. OR DO YOU WANT TO MAKE SURE PARENTS GOT THEIR PARENTS? MAKE SURE YOU GET PICTURES.
I DON'T KNOW. DAVID, Y'ALL WANT TO COME IN AND GET IN THE PICTURE? BOTH OF Y'ALL. OH.
ALL RIGHT. CONGRATULATIONS, GUYS.
THAT'S AMAZING. I'M GOING TO OPEN IT UP TO COMMENTS FROM MY FELLOW TRUSTEES.
OKAY. BEFORE YOU ALL LEAVE, I HAVE A FUNNY STORY.
SO SPRING BREAK HAPPENED I WAS AWAY WITH MY FAMILY ON VACATION AND SOMEBODY WHEN I SAID I'M FROM PLANO, THEIR EYES LIT UP AND THEY JUST SAID, HOW ABOUT THAT PLANO EAST BASKETBALL TEAM? AND I WAS LIKE, I KNOW, RIGHT? BECAUSE YOU WON YOUR CHAMPIONSHIP WHILE WE WERE AWAY.
AND WE'RE ALL AT A RESORT JUST HANGING OUT IN THE POOL.
AND SO FUN FACT THAT THIS RANDOM GUY, LIKE, GOT SO EXCITED ON YOUR BEHALF.
AND THEN I GOT EXCITED ON YOUR BEHALF AND OUR WHOLE FAMILY WAS EXCITED.
YOU HAVE FANS ALL ACROSS THE STATE, ALL ACROSS THE COUNTRY.
AND DO I UNDERSTAND YOU HAVE ANOTHER BIG GAME COMING UP? DO YOU HAVE SOMEWHERE ELSE THAT YOU'RE PLAYING? NEW YORK? NEW YORK? YEAH, YOU'RE HEADED TO NEW YORK.
THANK YOU FOR REPRESENTING US SO WELL.
I'M AN EAST SIDE MOM, SO WE ALL BEAM WITH PRIDE.
THANK YOU ALL. [APPLAUSE] SO I'M A PLANO EAST GRAD AND MY HUSBAND IS A PLANO EAST GRAD.
AND WE STARTED BRINGING OUR KIDS TO THE PLAYOFF GAMES WHO HAVE NOW DEMANDED THAT WE MOVE BACK INTO THE EAST SIDE BECAUSE WE ACTUALLY LIVE IN THE WEST SIDE. MY CHILDREN HAVE DEMANDED, BECAUSE OF Y'ALL'S GAMES THAT WE MOVE BACK OVER TO THE EAST SIDE OF TOWN.
BUT YOU KNOW WHEN Y'ALL WERE PLAYING AND YOU KNOW, HIGHLAND PARK AND KELLER AND ALL OF THESE GAMES THAT WE WENT TO THERE WAS A LOT OF PHYSICALITY.
MANSFIELD. MAN, THAT WAS A REALLY VERY PHYSICAL GAME.
AND OF COURSE ROUND ROCK AND EVERYTHING ELSE.
AND I WAS SUPER IMPRESSED WITH LIKE, WE WERE MORE NERVOUS.
I FEEL LIKE CHEERING FOR YOU THAN Y'ALL LOOKED PLAYING.
RIGHT. AND WITH ALL OF THE PHYSICALITY, WITH ALL OF THE BAITING, WITH ALL OF THE, YOU KNOW, DURING FROM OTHER FAN SECTIONS, Y'ALL JUST KEPT IT COOL AS A CUCUMBER AND, YOU KNOW, PLAYED ON AND WATCHING Y'ALL DO INTERVIEWS AND JUST THE PROFESSIONALISM AND PRESENCE WITH WHICH ALL CARRY YOURSELVES.
BUT WAS VERY EXCITED TO BE THERE IN SAN ANTONIO WITH YOU GUYS.
[00:45:08]
OVER TO THE STANDS IN THAT MOMENT, LIKE, I JUST STOOD THERE AND WATCHED Y'ALL IN THAT MOMENT WHERE YOU'RE HUGGING YOUR PARENTS AND YOU'RE HUGGING YOUR FRIENDS AND YOU'RE HUGGING YOUR FAMILIES. AND IT WAS I MEAN IT WAS BEAUTIFUL.IT WAS SUCH A GOOD SUCH A GOOD AND EMOTIONAL EVENT.
AND THIS IS SOMETHING THAT YOU'RE GOING TO REMEMBER FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIVES.
AND SO I HOPE THAT YOU'RE REALLY EXCITED.
AND I WILL SAY, WHEN WE WERE HEADED DOWN THERE, THE SUPERINTENDENT BUSTS OUT WITH THESE POM POMS LIKE, YOU KNOW, YELLOW AND WHITE AND BLACK POM POMS. AND I WAS LIKE, DO YOU HAVE A ROOM IN THE CENTRAL OFFICE THAT'S FULL OF POM POMS FOR ALL OF THE SCHOOLS? AND SHE WOULDN'T ANSWER ME, BUT I'M PRETTY SURE SHE DOES.
IT'S WONDERFUL TO SEE SUCH SUCCESS.
AND THAT'S WHY WE DO THIS, RIGHT? LIKE, I HAVE TWO KIDS AND YOU KNOW, SEEING Y'ALL'S SUCCESS IS THE NUMBER ONE REASON WHY I DO THIS AND GIVE MY TIME TO DO THIS.
BECAUSE I WANT TO SEE EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU BE SUCCESSFUL.
[APPLAUSE] WELL, I THINK THEY CALL IT WINNING WITH CLASS, RIGHT? MY KIDDOS WERE STUDENTS AT PLANO EAST, SO I HAPPEN TO BE EAST SIDE.
ALSO, I DIDN'T GO TO SCHOOL THERE, BUT IT WAS SO EXHILARATING TO BE THERE.
I'M SORRY. YES. I JUST HAVE A QUICK COMMENT.
AND THE THING IS THAT I'M A CURRENT PLANO EAST MOM, AND SO THIS IS AMAZING FOR ALL THE PLANO EAST MOMS OUT THERE, I WANT TO SAY SOMETHING THAT YOUR STORY SHOULD BE MADE INTO A MOVIE, AND OUR COACH, BRAD PITT, SHOULD PLAY YOU.
[LAUGHTER] OKAY, THAT WAS ALL INTERESTING. I WAS ON THE PLANO EAST BANDWAGON FROM, LIKE, DAY ONE, SO I WAS ACTUALLY AT YOUR FIRST GAME.
I REALLY, REALLY ENJOYED YOU GUYS PLAYING.
AND WHILE THE BASKETBALL WAS PHENOMENAL, I REALLY ENJOYED YOU GUYS AS PEOPLE.
AND THAT MEANT THE WORLD TO MY KIDS, BY THE WAY.
YOU GUYS, I THINK, AS A TEAM, WERE ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL TO WATCH.
IT WAS A GREAT BASKETBALL TO WATCH.
AND SO I CERTAINLY APPRECIATE THE IRONY OF THE LITTLEST GUY ON THE TEAM GIVING THE LITTLE MAN SIGN.
I APPRECIATED ALL OF YOU GUYS.
AND REALLY SORT OF WATCHING THE JOURNEY AND WATCHING YOU GROW.
RIGHT? AND YOU GUYS WERE PLAYING IN FRONT OF GIANT CROWDS AT PRETTY MUCH EVERYWHERE YOU WENT.
AND SO THE ENTIRE JOURNEY FOR ME AND MY FAMILY WAS AMAZING.
AND I THINK THAT ONE OF THE THINGS YOU GUYS CAN TAKE FROM THIS IS THAT WHILE THERE WERE CERTAINLY A LOT OF FANS AT THE END YOU KNOW, THERE WERE PLENTY OF FOLKS AT THE BEGINNING.
MANY OF THEM WERE VERY, VERY VOCAL.
AND IT WAS AN ABSOLUTE PLEASURE.
AND I REALLY HOPE THAT YOU GUYS HAVE AN APPRECIATION FOR ALL THE HARD WORK YOU GUYS PUT IN.
YOU'LL CERTAINLY ALWAYS REMEMBER IT.
[00:50:07]
FINAL WIN. AND IT WAS.I DON'T THINK I COULD SAY IT ANY BETTER THAN WHAT LAUREN SAID.
GETTING TO BE ON THE SIDELINES WATCHING AND EVEN TALKING TO YOUR PRINCIPAL OF OKAY, IF THEY START TO LOSE, I'M LEAVING BECAUSE I'VE NOT BEEN IN EVERY GAME AND I JUST, YOU KNOW, I CAN BE A LITTLE SUSPICIOUS OF OR SUPERSTITIOUS.
AND SO JUST, YOU KNOW, JUST THE LITTLE THINGS.
BUT ONE OF THE THINGS THAT MADE ME SO INCREDIBLY PROUD WAS WATCHING ALL OF YOU JUST KEEP YOUR COOL.
AND THAT FIRST GAME, AND I GUESS IT WAS AGAINST MANSFIELD AND YOU KNOW, IT WAS A LITTLE ROUGH, AND I WAS A LITTLE UPSET BY SOME OF THE ROUGHNESS AND SOME OF THE MISSED CALLS.
AND SO YOU KNOW, WE'RE SITTING OVER HERE LIKE, YOU KNOW, CARRYING ON AND YOU GOT EVERY TIME WE'D LOOK BACK OUT THERE, YOU WERE, YOU KNEW WHAT YOU NEEDED TO DO. YOU HAD A JOB, YOU HAD TEAMMATES, AND YOU LIFTED EACH OTHER.
AND THE THING ABOUT THAT WIN IS NOT ONLY ARE WE ALL PROUD AND PROUD OF THIS MOMENT, AND PROUD OF THIS YEAR, AND PROUD OF THAT ACCOMPLISHMENT, BUT THE THING I WANTED FOR YOU THE MOST WAS FOR YOU TO HAVE THIS EXPERIENCE FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.
AND SO JUST A BIG KUDOS TO YOU TO WHAT YOU'VE ACCOMPLISHED.
I HOPE THAT YOU KEEP UP WITH EACH OTHER PAST YOUR SENIOR YEAR AND YOU STAY CONNECTED.
THIS IS THE THING THAT YOU GUYS WILL HAVE TO SHARE AND THAT YOU SHARED IT TOGETHER.
AND SO WE LOOK FORWARD TO FOLLOWING YOUR SUCCESSES BEYOND THIS NEXT YEAR.
WE'VE GOT ONE JUNIOR COMING BACK.
AND SO VERY PROUD OF YOUR COACHES.
I'M PROUD OF THE PARENTS, THE COMMUNITY, OUR LEADERSHIP AT PLANO EAST.
AND WE'RE JUST SO INCREDIBLY PROUD.
AND TO ALL OF OUR STUDENTS IN THE ROOM, I'M SO PROUD TO BE YOUR SUPERINTENDENT.
AND WHEN WE LOOK AT OUR PORTRAIT OF A GRADUATE, THAT'S ALL OF YOU SITTING RIGHT HERE TODAY.
I'M SO INCREDIBLY PROUD OF YOU.
WOW, THAT'S A HARD ACT TO FOLLOW, I'M TELLING YOU.
BUT THANK YOU. AND I WILL SAY, I'M GOING TO ADD, WE NOTICED THAT THE FANS, THE PLANO EAST FANS WERE RESPECTFUL AND POLITE AND THEY MIGHT HAVE BEEN, YOU KNOW, EXHILARATED. BUT THEY WERE GOOD FANS AND WE WERE SO PROUD THAT THEY WERE SO GOOD.
SO CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE IN THIS ROOM.
AND THIS CONCLUDES OUR BOARD RECOGNITIONS FOR THIS EVENING.
YOU ARE WELCOME TO EXIT WITH YOUR GUESTS AND CONTINUE YOUR EVENING.
MANY THANKS FOR JOINING US AND LETTING US SHARE YOUR SUCCESSES AND HONOR YOU.
[00:56:45]
