BOARD MEMBERS, DO YOU HAVE ANY COMMENTS YOU'D LIKE? I'M SO EXCITED TO HAVE THESE KIDDOS HERE.
AND I KNOW THAT WILL SERVE YOU WELL IN YOUR FUTURE.
I'LL JUST ECHO THAT SENTIMENT.
AND AS SOMEONE WHO NEVER IN MY LIFE HAS QUALIFIED FOR A SPELLING COMPETITION, EVER.
I KEPT TELLING MY SON, LIKE, OKAY, LET'S PRACTICE.
LET'S WORK ON THIS, LET'S PRACTICE.
AND HE DID NOT PRACTICE AND HE DID NOT PUT IN THE WORK.
AND YOU GUYS PRACTICE AND PUT IN THE WORK.
AND THAT IS SO VERY IMPORTANT BECAUSE QUALIFYING IS ONLY A VERY SMALL PART OF THE BATTLE.
AND SO THANK YOUR PARENTS FOR HELPING YOU AND THANK YOUR PARENTS FOR SUPPORTING YOU, BECAUSE THIS, OF COURSE, IS SOMETHING THAT, YOU KNOW, I'M SURE THAT THEY'RE WORKING WITH YOUR WORDS OR GETTING THE SCRIPTS, BOOKS OR, YOU KNOW, WHATEVER YOU DID TO PRACTICE.
AND CONGRATS FOR HAVING THE WORK ETHIC, TO GET WHERE Y'ALL GOT.
THE TROUBLESOME THING ABOUT SPELLING BEES IS THAT YOU REMEMBER THE WORD YOU MISSPELLED.
I'M A LITTLE EMBARRASSED TO ADMIT THAT'S WHAT I COULDN'T SPELL IN SECOND GRADE.
I HOPE THAT YOU ALL WERE REMEMBER THE ACHIEVEMENTS, THE HARD WORK, THE RESILIENCE, AND THOSE ARE THE KINDS OF THINGS THAT WILL GET YOU THROUGH, MUCH HARDER, UNFORTUNATELY, GREATER, CHALLENGES IN YOUR LIFE.
WE WANT TO HEAR HOW THAT GOES.
AND SO YOU'RE WORKING WELL UNDER PRESSURE.
AND WHEN YOU ARE ABLE TO GET THROUGH THAT, EVEN IF YOU AREN'T THE VICTOR OF THAT CONTEST, LOOK WHAT YOU'VE DONE TO GET THROUGH WHAT YOU'RE CHALLENGED WITH.
TYRA SAID, YOU KNOW, THE PRACTICE.
SO WE ADMIRE YOUR PRACTICE AND YOUR DEDICATION.
SO CONGRATULATIONS AND GOOD LUCK ON MARCH 9TH.
WE ALSO WE WILL MOVE ON TO ANOTHER RECOGNITION.

DOCTOR SELENDA FREEMAN WILL INTRODUCE THIS EVENING'S RECOGNITIONS FOR US.
WE WOULD LIKE TO SHARE A VERY SPECIAL FAMILY RECOGNITION THIS EVENING.
RICK SUFFERED CARDIAC ARREST, RESULTING IN HIS STEPSON TRENT IMMEDIATELY RECOGNIZING THE SYMPTOMS, CALLING 911 AND ADMINISTERING CPR UNTIL PARAMEDICS ARRIVED, WHO THEN BEGAN LIFE SAVING INTERVENTION FOR HIM.
WE HAVE A SHORT VIDEO CLIP THAT WE'D LIKE TO SHARE WITH THE GROUP NOW.
I'VE BEEN IN PLANO FOR ALMOST 25 YEARS NOW, A WONDERFUL FAMILY OF SEVEN.
I'VE BEEN PLAYING CLUB SOCCER SINCE I WAS, YOU KNOW, TEN YEARS OLD.
YOU KNOW, I PLAY GOLF REGULARLY, I RUN, I LIFT WEIGHTS, SO THIS WAS A BIT OF A SURPRISE.
MY MOM COMES AND WAKES ME UP AND HE WAS COLLAPSED IN THE BATHROOM AND I CALLED 911.
[00:15:01]
AND THE OPERATOR SAYS, OPEN THE FRONT DOOR.POLICE ARRIVED FIRST BECAUSE THEY WERE REALLY CLOSE AND WE HAD AN OFFICER START CHEST COMPRESSIONS.
FIRE ARRIVED RIGHT AFTER THAT AND CONTINUED GOOD CHEST COMPRESSIONS.
AFTER A SECOND DEFIBRILLATION, WE RECOGNIZED THAT HE WAS AN ECMO CANDIDATE.
IT BUYS US TIME TO FIX A PATIENT WHO'S IN CARDIAC ARREST IN A WAY WE'VE NEVER HAD THAT TIME BEFORE.
SEVERAL TEAMS IN THE HOSPITAL GET ACTIVATED AT THE SAME TIME.
WE MEET PLANO FIRE AND RESCUE IN THE ED.
WE TRANSPORT THE PATIENT TO THE CATH LAB AND WE PUT THEM ON ECMO.
WE PUT HIM ON VA, ECMO ON DATE OF ARRIVAL OF A CARDIAC ARREST, AND 13 DAYS LATER HE WAS ABLE TO WALK OUT WITH HIS WIFE AND HIS FAMILY AND RETURN TO HIS LIFE AS NORMAL. HI, MY NAME IS RICK ARMIJO.
IT IS WORTH WATCHING TWICE, I WILL SAY.
SO TIFFANY AND RICK HAVE GENEROUSLY MADE A DONATION TO PLANO ISD, WHICH WILL BE USED TO PURCHASE TWO COMPLETE CPR KITS FROM OUR COMMUNITY PARTNER, AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION, BETTER KNOWN AS AHA, WHICH YOU WE DO HAVE PICTURES YOU CAN SEE HERE ON THE SCREEN OF THOSE COMPLETE KITS THAT WILL BE PURCHASING AHA WAS SO MOVED BY YOUR STORY THAT THEY HAVE OFFERED TO DONATE AN ADDITIONAL FOUR KITS TO PLANO ISD, MAKING THAT SIX TOTAL, WHICH WILL BE STORED AT EACH HIGH SCHOOL AND ROTATED THROUGHOUT OUR DISTRICT.

MY HUSBAND AND I LOVE PLANO ISD.
MORE THAN I HAVE TIME TO SAY RIGHT NOW.
AND, WE ARE VERY HAPPY THAT YOU HAVE ALLOWED US THE FORUM TO DONATE IN THIS WAY, WHICH WAS VERY MEANINGFUL FOR BOTH OF US.
AND I DO WANT TO SAY THAT AFTER THIS EVENT, WE DIDN'T KNOW THAT, TRENT HAD LEARNED CPR HANDS-ONLY CPR AT SCHIMELPFENIG MIDDLE SCHOOL.
AND WE ARE VERY HAPPY THAT HE DID.
THROUGH HIS HEALTH CLASS AT SCHOOL.
AND WE WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU AGAIN.
[INAUDIBLE] . I DON'T THINK THERE'S A DRY EYE IN THE ROOM.
BOARD MEMBERS, IS ANYONE INTERESTED IN MAKING A COMMENT? DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY?
[00:20:01]
I DON'T KNOW THAT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN EVERYBODY'S FIRST THING TO THINK ABOUT DONATING TO THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AFTER THIS, AFTER EXPERIENCING SOMETHING SO TRAUMATIC AND AWFUL.AND I'M SO GLAD THAT EVERYTHING WORKED OUT.
YOU WERE ABLE TO GET THE CARE QUICKLY, AND THAT TRENT WAS ABLE TO GO INTO CRISIS MODE AND WAS ABLE TO HELP OUT AND UTILIZE THOSE SKILLS LEARNED IN MIDDLE SCHOOL.
SO KUDOS TO OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT, THE TEACHERS AND, TRENT, FOR JUST OPERATING IN THAT CRISIS MODE AND USING THOSE SKILLS WHEN YOU DID, BECAUSE I LOVE YOUR MOM.
AND, I JUST I'M HAVE NO OTHER WORDS.
I'M JUST SO GLAD THAT IT ALL WORKED OUT.
SO I'VE BEEN TO SEVERAL TALKS BY CARDIOLOGISTS THAT YOU MAY BE SURPRISED TO FIND OUT I'VE HAD HEART ATTACKS OR I WAS AT A CONFERENCE WHERE I THINK IT WAS THE CHIEF OF TRANSPLANT FOR NYU.
IN THAT STORY AND PROBABLY A RECOMMENDATION FROM DR.
GAMBER, HOPEFULLY. BUT I'LL MAKE THE POINT, TOO, THAT WE TALK A LOT ABOUT OUR PARTNERSHIPS WITH THE CITY OF PLANO AND, JUST ABSOLUTELY THANKFUL THAT THE CITY OF PLANO HAS SUCH WONDERFUL SERVICES WITH OUR POLICE, OUR FIRE, OUR EMS. AND THEN WE HAVE WE'RE BLESSED TO HAVE MULTIPLE REALLY GREAT HOSPITALS, HERE IN THE CITY OF PLANO.
AND SO WHILE, ABSOLUTELY APPRECIATE YOUR PASSION AND YOUR DONATION FOR THE SCHOOL DISTRICT, YOU KNOW, JUST SHOUT OUT TO THE CITY OF PLANO FOR BEING, GREAT PARTNERS, NOT ONLY FOR US, BUT FOR OUR FAMILIES.
THANK YOU FOR BEING THERE THE OTHER NIGHT.
AND TRENT, WHAT A WAY TO TAKE WHAT YOU LEARNED IN MIDDLE SCHOOL AND SAVE YOUR DAD'S LIFE.
I MEAN, THAT'S AMAZING. SO KUDOS TO YOU.
AND I ALSO WANT TO SAY, TIFFANY, THANK YOU FOR THE WORK YOU DO WITH THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION.
AND WE'RE SO THANKFUL FOR THE DONATION THAT YOU'VE MADE.
AND I'M HOPING THAT THIS STORY INSPIRES OTHER STUDENTS TO LEARN THE SAME TRAINING SO THAT THEY CAN ACT IF THEY EVER ARE CALLED TO ACTION FOR THAT.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING HERE TONIGHT.
ALL RIGHT, NOW WE HAVE ONE ADDITIONAL RECOGNITION THIS EVENING, DOCTOR FREEMAN.
THANK YOU, PRESIDENT HUMPHREY.
I'M ALSO EXCITED TONIGHT TO RECOGNIZE SOME VERY SPECIAL EDUCATORS.
SUPERINTENDENT WILLIAMS, PRESIDENT HUMPHREY, BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND CABINET MEMBERS.
AS YOU WELL KNOW, WE HAVE MANY OUTSTANDING TEACHERS IN PLANO ISD.

THEY DEVOTED SATURDAYS AND EVENINGS TO ATTENDING COHORT MEETINGS AND MENTORING SESSIONS.
THEY SPENT HOURS PREPARING FOR AN EXTENSIVE ONLINE EXAM, AND THEY COMPLETED THREE WRITTEN COMPONENTS IN WHICH THEY SCRUTINIZED THEIR OWN TEACHING PRACTICES TO DEMONSTRATE THAT THEY ARE ACCOMPLISHED TEACHERS ACCORDING TO NATIONAL STANDARDS ESTABLISHED FOR TEACHERS BY TEACHERS.

SO CONGRATULATIONS! BOARD MEMBERS, DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO ADD? NO. OKAY.
ALRIGHT. LOTS OF GOOD WORDS SAID THERE WE WERE.
SOME OF US WERE AT REGION TEN THE NIGHT YOU WERE RECEIVING YOUR RECOGNITIONS.
AND WE HAD TO GO UPSTAIRS TO A BORING LEGISLATIVE MEETING.
[00:30:02]
RIGHT. AND I COULD HEAR THE CHEERS AND ALL THE EXCITEMENT IN THE ROOM.THAT WAS A LOT OF INDIVIDUALS REPRESENTING ALL OF REGION TEN.
BUT THANK YOU FOR YOUR DEDICATION TO TEACHING.
WE TRULY APPRECIATE ALL THE WORK YOU PUT INTO THIS.
DID YOU WANT TO SAY? JUST WANT TO SAY A COUPLE OF WORDS.
ONE, CONGRATULATIONS! WE'RE PLANO ISD, PROUD OF YOU.

[8.1. Public Hearing on the 2022 - 2023 Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR)]
ALSO REFERRED TO AS THE TAPR.YOU MIGHT HEAR IT REFERRED TO AS THAT.
THIS EVENING, THE BOARD IS CONDUCTING A PUBLIC HEARING ON THE 2022 2023 TEXAS ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE REPORT WILL BEGIN THE PUBLIC HEARING WITH A PRESENTATION FROM LISA WILSON, AFTER WHICH I WILL INVITE THE PUBLIC TO THE PODIUM TO ADDRESS THE BOARD REGARDING THIS MATTER, MISS WILSON.
HE IS OUR DIRECTOR OF ASSESSMENT AND RESEARCH AND HE WILL BE PRESENTING THE TAPR TONIGHT.
GOOD EVENING, PRESIDENT HUMPHREY.
IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE TEXAS EDUCATION CODE, SECTION 39.053, THE COMPREHENSIVE TAPR SYSTEM PROVIDES DETAILS OF DISTRICT AND CAMPUS ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE WITH FINANCIAL REPORTS AND INFORMATION ABOUT STAFF, PROGRAMS AND DEMOGRAPHICS, AND REQUIRES A PUBLIC HEARING.
THOSE ELEMENTS ARE LISTED ON THIS SLIDE.
JUST A POINT OF CLARIFICATION.
THEREFORE, MOST OF THE INFORMATION HAS ALREADY BEEN COVERED.
[00:35:04]
IN ADDITION, YOU WILL NOTICE LINKS TO RELEVANT DOCUMENTS OR LOCATION OF THE DATA FOR SOME OF THE INFORMATION LISTED ABOVE.IN ADDITION TO COMPILING MULTIPLE DATA POINTS FOR THE ANNUAL PERFORMANCE REPORT EACH YEAR, THE TEXAS EDUCATION AGENCY AWARDS ACCREDITATION STATUS TO EACH PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT AND CHARTER SCHOOL.
A DISTRICT OR CHARTER MUST BE ACCREDITED BY THE STATE TO OPERATE AS A PUBLIC SCHOOL.
HOWEVER, THIS YEAR IS A LITTLE DIFFERENT.
BASED ON WHAT THE AGENCY IS ALLOWED TO REPORT FOR 2022-23, PLANO ISD IS AN ACCREDITED SCHOOL DISTRICT WITH AN A SUPERIOR ACHIEVEMENT FINANCIAL FIRST RATING.
ALL OTHER RATINGS ARE NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.
THE TEXAS ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE REPORT, OR TAPR, PROVIDES A LARGE PORTION OF THE ANNUAL REPORT REQUIREMENTS AND INCLUDES A WIDE RANGE OF DATA FOR THE DISTRICT, INCLUDING DISTRICT STAAR PERFORMANCE AT THE APPROACHES, MEETS, AND MASTER'S LEVEL FOR ALL TESTED GRADES AND SUBJECT LEVELS.
AN ANNUAL GROWTH MEASURE MEASURING STUDENT GROWTH ON STAAR TESTS FROM YEAR TO YEAR.
AN ACCELERATED LEARNING MEASURE SHOWING SUCCESS FOR STUDENTS WHO EARN DID NOT MEET GRADE LEVEL IN THE PRIOR YEAR, BUT WERE ACCELERATED TO APPROACH THIS GRADE LEVEL OR ABOVE IN THE CURRENT YEAR. BILINGUAL EDUCATION AND ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE.
DATA STAR PARTICIPATION RATES.
ATTENDANCE, GRADUATION AND DROPOUT RATES.
GRADUATION PROFILE INFORMATION SHOWING DIPLOMA TYPES FOR GRADUATING SENIORS, COLLEGE CAREER AND MILITARY READINESS INDICATORS, AS WELL AS STUDENT AND STAFF INFORMATION. AGAIN.
SINCE MOST OF THE DATA HAS ALREADY BEEN SHARED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.
I WOULD LIKE TO PROVIDE SOME HIGHLIGHTS OF THE TAPR REPORT.
THE FULL REPORT IS AVAILABLE ON THE DISTRICT AND TEA WEBSITES.
TYPICALLY, WE WOULD PROVIDE A COMPARISON TO LAST YEAR'S STAAR DATA.
AS A REMINDER, THE STAAR TEST AND CUT SCORES WERE ALL REVISED FOR THE 2022-23 SCHOOL YEAR, MAKING THOSE COMPARISONS DIFFICULT. HOWEVER, COMPARING PLANO ISD TO THE STATE AND REGION WILL SHOW HOW OUR STUDENTS PERFORM RELATIVE TO THEIR PEERS.
THE GROWTH MEASURE WAS CALCULATED DIFFERENTLY THIS YEAR AND THE ACCELERATED LEARNING MEASURE IS NEW.
INDIVIDUAL STUDENT GROWTH IS CALCULATED AS THE CHANGE BETWEEN LOW DID NOT MEET GRADE LEVEL.
HIGH DID NOT MEET GRADE LEVEL.
THE ACCELERATED LEARNING SCORES ON THE RIGHT SHOW, THE PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS WHO EARN DID NOT MEET GRADE LEVEL IN THE PRIOR YEAR, AND WERE ACCELERATED TO APPROACH THIS GRADE LEVEL OR ABOVE IN THE CURRENT YEAR.
FOR BOTH DATA SETS, WE HAVE PROVIDED THE COMPARISON DATA FOR THE STATE AND REGION.
WE ARE AGAIN PLEASED TO REPORT THAT WE HAVE OUTPERFORMED THE STATE AND REGION AND NOT ONLY PERFORMANCE, BUT ALSO IN GROWTH.
[00:40:02]
YOU HAVE SEEN THIS DATA BEFORE MAY REMEMBER THAT THERE ARE FREQUENT CHANGES TO THE WAY CCMR GRADUATES ARE DETERMINED.THIS DATA IS FROM THE CLASS OF 2022.
THE RED BOX INDICATES AREAS WHERE WE ARE BELOW THE STATE AVERAGE.
AND I WANTED TO POINT OUT, AS YOU MAY REMEMBER, DR.
CCMR DATA CAN BE BROKEN DOWN INTO SEVERAL CATEGORIES.
THIS SLIDE SHOWS THE PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS IN GRADES 11 AND 12 WHO TOOK THE COLLEGE BOARD'S ADVANCED PLACEMENT EXAMINATIONS OR THE INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE IB EXAMINATIONS, AND INCLUDES OVERALL PERCENTAGES FOR THE DISTRICT'S STATE AND REGION 10.
THE CHART ALSO INDICATES THE PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS WITH AT LEAST ONE AP, IB, OR SAT EXAMINATION IN GRADES 11 AND 12 AT OR ABOVE THE CRITERION SCORE. THE AVERAGE SAT ACT COMPOSITE SCORE SHOWS THE PERCENTAGE OF GRADUATES WHO SCORED AT OR ABOVE THE CRITERION SCORE ON THE SAT AND ACT.
THE PARTICIPATION AND ACHIEVEMENT RATES ARE FROM THE 2021-22 SCHOOL YEAR AND INDICATE LAGGING DATA.
WE ARE VERY PROUD OF THE ADVANCED ACADEMIC WORK FROM OUR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS IN PLANO ISD, AND YOU WILL NOTICE THAT WE ARE NOT ONLY IMPROVING IN MANY AREAS, WE ALSO EXCEED THE STATE AND REGION AND EACH OF THESE METRICS AS WELL.
FOUR, FIVE, AND SIX YEAR GRADUATION RATES FOR ALL STUDENTS AND SUBGROUPS ARE INCLUDED ON THIS SLIDE, AS WELL AS THE 2021-22 DROPOUT RATES. GRADUATION RATES ARE ALWAYS BEHIND BY ONE YEAR AND INDICATE LAGGING DATA.
AS YOU WOULD EXPECT, GRADUATION RATES IMPROVE OVER THE SIX YEAR SPAN AS STUDENTS WHO WERE JUST SHY OF GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS MAY WORK TO COMPLETE THESE AND BE DESIGNATED AS A GRADUATE.
WE ARE ALWAYS INTERESTED IN WHAT OUR STUDENTS DO AFTER THEY GRADUATE.
THE TAPR HELPS US UNDERSTAND THE INSTITUTIONS OUR STUDENTS ATTEND AFTER GRADUATION.
FOR THE CLASS OF 2022, THE TOP 20 INSTITUTIONS AND THE NUMBER OF PLANO ISD GRADUATES ENROLLED ARE LISTED ON THE SLIDE. TO FULFILL THE REPORTING REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENT PERFORMANCE AND POST-SECONDARY INSTITUTIONS.
THE TEXAS EDUCATION AGENCY TRACKS PLANO ISD GRADUATES, IN THIS CASE THE CLASS OF 2020 TO TEXAS HIGHER EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS, 2 YEAR AND 4 YEAR, AND DETERMINES THE GPA PERFORMANCE OF THESE STUDENTS USING A FOUR POINT SCALE FROM THE CLASS OF 2020.
TEA TRACKED 55% OF PLANO ISD STUDENTS TO TEXAS HIGHER EDUCATION.
KEEP IN MIND OTHER STUDENTS MAY HAVE ENTERED COLLEGE OUT OF STATE.
THIS ONLY REPORTS TEXAS HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS OF THOSE ENROLLED IN TEXAS COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES THAT ARE REPORTED, 1160 STUDENTS OR 61% EARNED A GPA OF 3.0 OR HIGHER AND 1528 STUDENTS, 80% EARNED A GPA OF 2% OR HIGHER.
THESE ARE POSTED ON OUR SAFETY AND ACCOUNTABILITY WEB PAGES AT THIS TIME.
ANOTHER REQUIREMENT FOR DISTRICTS IS THE DEVELOPMENT OF DISTRICT AND CAMPUS IMPROVEMENT PLANS.
THESE REPORTS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE ON THE DISTRICT AND CAMPUS WEBSITES.
FINALLY, THE TEAM'S FINANCIAL STANDARD REPORT FOR 21-22.
ANOTHER SET OF LAGGING DATA IS LINKED ON THIS SLIDE.
THE REPORT INCLUDES DETAILS ON DISTRICT REVENUE, INCLUDING EXPENDITURES AND DISBURSEMENTS.
THE 22-23 FINANCIAL REPORT WILL ALSO BE AVAILABLE ON THE TEA WEBSITE LATER THIS SPRING.
[00:45:03]
AND THAT CONCLUDES THE PUBLIC HEARING PRESENTATION OF THE PLANO ISD ANNUAL TAPR REPORT.ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU, MR. SPENCER. I WILL NOW, INVITE ANYONE TO THE PODIUM WHO WOULD LIKE TO COMMENT SPECIFICALLY ON THE 2022 2023 TEXAS ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE REPORT.
THE HEARING IS OPEN FOR PUBLIC COMMENT.
ALL RIGHT. I DON'T SEE ANYBODY JUST JUMPING UP TO THE MICROPHONE, SO I'LL CLOSE THE HEARING.
SO THIS CONCLUDES THE PUBLIC HEARING.
WE WILL MOVE ON TO ITEM 9.1, WHICH IS REPORTS.
[9.1. Career and Technology Education Center (CTE) Update]
AND WE'RE GOING TO HEAR THE CAREER AND TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION CENTER CTE UPDATE.WHAT. DIDN'T HIT IT HARD ENOUGH.
ALL RIGHT, SO, I WILL INVITE JOHNNY HILL TO PRESENT, AND, YOU WANT TO CHIME IN? I'M SORRY I GOT DISTRACTED.
THANK YOU, PRESIDENT HUMPHRY. THANK YOU.
SUPERINTENDENT WILLIAMS, BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND CABINET MEMBERS.
WE HAVE KEN KESSLER, AND WE ALSO HAVE CONRAD JUDD WITH, HUCKABEE, ARCHITECT FIRMS HERE THIS EVENING.
A VERY EXCITING THE WORK THAT THAT WE ARE ALREADY DOING, WITH OUR CTE, OUR CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION CENTER THAT'S GOING UP ON, THAT WILL BE GOING UP ON ALMA AND PARK.
I'M JUST GOING TO INTERJECT BEFORE WE START TO ALSO RECOGNIZE THAT THEY ARE BOTH PLANO GRADUATES.
AND SO THEY'RE AS FAR AS OUR YOU KNOW, WE'RE TALKING ABOUT CCMR A LITTLE BIT, IN OUR TAPR REPORT.
AND THEN OF COURSE, WHAT THIS IS GOING TO DO IS PART OF OUR CCMR PROGRAM.
AND, IT'S BEEN FUN WORKING WITH ALL OF YOU AND WITH THE HUCKABEE TEAM.
THANK YOU. IT'S FUN TO COME FULL CIRCLE, RIGHT.
AND SEE YOUR EDUCATION PAY OFF AND A LOT OF DIFFERENT WAYS.
MADAM PRESIDENT, BOARD OF TRUSTEES.
WE ARE SO EXCITED TO SHARE THIS WITH YOU.
I KNOW WE WANT TO, BE MINDFUL OF YOUR TIME.
THE DESIGN COMMITTEE IS A STRONG, ROBUST GROUP OF INDIVIDUALS DR.
WILLIAMS AND HER CABINET, KAREN AND HER TEAM AND MANY OTHERS, INDUSTRY PARTNERS THAT WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO WALK THROUGH FOR SEVERAL MONTHS HERE TO GO THROUGH A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT EXERCISES.
THIS PICTURE ILLUSTRATES ONE OF THE EXERCISES THAT WE DID, WHERE WE HAD OVER 130 DIFFERENT IMAGES THAT WE SHARED UP THERE AND HAD, THEM WALK THROUGH AND LET US KNOW WHAT THEIR PREFERENCES WERE.
IT WAS A GREAT EXERCISE TO START KICKING OFF, THE DESIRED OUTCOME FOR THIS PROJECT.
WHAT'S INTERESTING ABOUT THESE IS WHAT WORKS.
AND WHAT DOESN'T WORK IS JUST AS IMPORTANT TO FIND OUT WHAT THEY DON'T WANT.
PLEASE DON'T DO THIS KIND OF, RESPONSES.
AND WE LOVE THIS. WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE SOMETHING LIKE THIS IN OUR FACILITY.
SO IT WAS AN EXCELLENT EXERCISE TO TAKE A GROUP AND LOOK AT SOME LOOK AT OUR WORK.
AND SO THAT WAS A GREAT EXERCISE TO MAKE SURE WE LANDED ON THE APPROPRIATE PROGRAMS AND SCOPES AND SPACES FOR THOSE PROGRAMS. FROM THERE WE WERE ABLE TO DO, INTERACTIVE LIVE CHARRETTES WITH THEM FROM WHAT WE CALL KIND OF MACRO SITE TEST FITS, WHERE WE'RE LOOKING AT CONCEPTS AND WHAT WOULD BEST ADDRESS, THE OVERALL SITE AND USE OF SITE ARRIVAL, PARKING, SO FORTH.
SO WE WENT THROUGH A NUMBER OF THOSE AND I WILL IT DOWN TO ONE SOLUTION.
FROM THERE, WE YOU CAN SEE IN THE PHOTOGRAPHS BELOW, WE WERE MEETING WITH KAREN AND HER TEAM TO REALLY ESTABLISH ADJACENCIES AND LAYING OUT THE PARTICULAR SPACES FOR THESE PROGRAMS. FROM THERE WE WERE ABLE TO REALLY PIN DOWN THE SITE.
LIKE JOHNNY MENTIONED, THIS IS A WONDERFUL CORNER LOT THAT SITS RIGHT THERE IN WEST PARK AND ALMA.
IT SITS, JUST WEST OF YOUR NEW FINE ARTS FACILITY, SITS JUST NORTH OF YOUR, HIGH SCHOOL ACADEMY.
ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WAS MENTIONED, IT WAS GOING TO BE IMPORTANT TO BE ABLE TO HAVE A LINE OF SIGHT FROM BOTH THOSE ROADWAYS AND HAVE, VERY RECOGNIZABLE ENTRIES FROM BOTH OF THOSE LOCATIONS.
[00:50:02]
THIS IS A 15 ACRE SITE.WE'VE GOT OVER 400 PARKING SPACES TO TAKE CARE OF THIS PIECE OF PROPERTY.
WE ALSO HAVE ACCOUNTED FOR EXPANSION ON THE PROPERTY, TOO.
PART OF THAT, TOO, IS WE'RE ABLE TO USE TECHNOLOGY.
WE LOVE TECHNOLOGY WE AS TO REALLY ANALYZE THE BUILDING.
SO THIS ALLOWED US TO LOOK AT, THE MICROCLIMATE IN TERMS OF WHAT'S THE COMBINATION OF HEAT AND WIND AND WHAT THAT'S DOING TO THE BUILDING NOISE YOU CAN SEE ON THE LOWER ONE THERE THAT THE BUILDING ITSELF AND THE GREEN IS REALLY POSITIONED WELL ON THE SITE AS IT GETS CLOSER TO THE ROADWAY, THERE'S A LITTLE BIT OF NOISE, BUT IT'S REALLY POSITIONED WELL.
SO IT'S REALLY WELL POSITIONED, WE BELIEVE AND THIS ALLOWED US TO TAKE A LOOK AT THAT.
SO WE'VE GOT THE BANK, COSMETOLOGY, THE LOBBY EVENT SPACE.
AND THAT RESTAURANT CAFE IS VERY RECOGNIZABLE AND EASY TO ACCESS FROM THE PARKING AND THE DRIVES.
THIS IS IMPORTANT TO SHOW YOU THAT THE WAY THAT THIS IS A TWO STORY FACILITY, YOU CAN SEE HOW WE WERE LEVERAGING, THE ABILITY TO HAVE DOUBLE VOLUME SPACE AS WELL AS THE SECOND FLOOR TO STACK WELL AND BE EFFICIENT IN TERMS OF THE DESIGN.
SO IT'S, WORKS WELL IN TERMS OF CIRCULATION AND BEING COMPACT TO FIT ON THIS SITE.
THE FIRST FLOOR WAS REALLY THE DISCUSSION WE HAD IS WHAT'S IMPORTANT TO BE ON THE FIRST FLOOR.
WHAT ARE THOSE PROGRAMS THAT REALLY NEED ACCESS? CONSTRUCTION AND AUTO TECH NEEDS ACCESS TO A YARD.
PUBLIC ENTRANCE FROM THE LOWER LEVEL WAS IMPORTANT.
WELL, ALL THIS IS, YOU MIGHT NOTICE, RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE WITH THE BIG X.
THE HEART OF THIS SCHOOL IS A TWO STORY VOLUME.
IT'S PLACED AT THE HEART OF THE SCHOOL.
YOU CAN SEE AT THE FRONT RIGHT SIDE, WE'VE GOT A DOUBLE VOLUME SPACE FOR THAT ENTRY LOBBY SPACE.
AND THEN THAT CENTER OF THE BUILDING AGAIN IS, THE DOUBLE VOLUME WITH THE BALCONY SURROUNDING IT.
SO PART OF THE IMAGE I SHOWED YOU THAT WE HAD OVER 130 DIFFERENT IMAGES THAT WHITTLED DOWN TO WHAT REALLY RESONATED WITH THEM IN TERMS OF THE EXTERIOR AND THE INTERIOR AND THE IMPORTANCE OF HAVING A VERY PROFESSIONAL, SOPHISTICATED, BUILDING, BOTH FROM THE ROADWAY BUT FROM THE INTERIOR, SO THAT THESE STUDENTS AND STAFF REALLY HAD A GREAT DEAL OF PRIDE AND AND IMPORTANCE OF WHAT THIS FACILITY MIGHT DO FOR, PREPARING THEM FOR THEIR FUTURE.
AND SO VOILA, THE FRONT ENTRY FROM ALMA THAT YOU'LL SEE IS REALLY IMPORTANT TO HAVE A LOT OF GLAZING, A LOT OF ABILITY TO SEE INTO THAT SPACE, A LOT OF PRESENCE AND, BEAUTY AND ELEGANCE FROM, FROM THE ROADWAY, THERE AS YOU APPROACH IT AND SEE, GOING INTO THAT TO THE LEFT OF THAT IS GOING TO BE THE CAFE RESTAURANTS.
BUT IT'S GOT ANOTHER ATTRACTIVE FACADE AND ENTRY.
FLANKING IT IS COSMETOLOGY IN THE BANK.
SO YOU HAVE THE PUBLIC ENTRANCE THERE WITH THE GLAZING THERE THAT WE'LL BE ABLE TO BRAND AND MARKET.
ANOTHER VIEW AND ANGLE FROM THAT ENTRANCE FROM WEST PARK.
SO THAT'S THE FACADE AND THE UPDATED TO WHERE WE ARE NOW.
YOU CAN SEE THAT WE ARE FINISHING SD, AND MOVING INTO DESIGN DEVELOPMENT.
UNFORTUNATELY, I KNOW I'VE HEARD COMMENTS THAT CAN WE JUST BUILD IT NOW? CAN WE JUST HAVE IT NOW? BUT THESE DO TAKE A LITTLE BIT OF TIME.
AND SO THAT IS WHERE WE'RE AT NOW.
I DO HAVE A VIDEO I'D LIKE TO SHARE WITH YOU IF YOU COULD.
IT GIVES YOU A LITTLE BETTER HOLISTIC VIEW OF THAT OF THE CAMPUS AND THE SITE.
[00:55:06]
YOU CAN SEE THE FRONT THERE IS THE ADMINISTRATION AREA.AGAIN, THE BANK AND COSMETOLOGY TO THE CENTER IS THE PRINT SHOP.
IN THE FAR RIGHT IS AUTO TECH AND CONSTRUCTION.
THEIR SERVICE YARD TO THE FAR RIGHT.
AND I THINK IT'S NICE TO BE VERY WELL SCREENED, VERY DISTANCED LANDSCAPE TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD THERE.
SO I THINK WE'LL BE REALLY GOOD NEIGHBORS TO THE RESIDENCES THAT ARE BEHIND THEM.
THE CHOICE OF MATERIALS. A VERY WARM TONE, BUT SOME COOL TONE WITH SOME GOOD CONTRAST.
WE'RE USING MASONRY AND METAL PANEL.
WE'RE USING WOOD TONE AND WOOD UNDERNEATH THE SOFFIT, UNDERNEATH OF THESE, ENTRYWAYS.
BEING ABLE TO MONITOR, MONITOR WHO'S ON THE CAMPUS OR ON THE SITE.
LOOKING, STARTING TO STUDY LANDSCAPE AND THE USE OF PAVED AREAS AND OUTDOOR AREAS I THINK COULD BE REALLY ENJOYABLE AS STUDENTS ARE ARRIVING, COMING AND GOING AS THE PUBLIC'S THERE AND AS DIFFERENT EVENTS TAKE PLACE.
WE LOOK FORWARD TO DOING SOME SIGNAGE AND BRANDING THAT WILL BE PART OF THE NEXT DEVELOPMENT.
YOU START TO SEE THAT CLEAR STORY.
THE WINDOWS UP ABOVE, THEY'RE GOING TO PROVIDE LIGHT DOWN INTO THAT UPPER SPACE AND VOLUME.
SO WE BELIEVE IT'S GOT A REALLY DYNAMIC LOOK AND FEEL.
IT WILL BE IMPRESSIVE FROM THE STREET.
THE PRESS, THE STUDENTS AND BE PROUD OF BEING ABLE TO OCCUPY AND STUDY AND ON THIS CAMPUS.
SO. HOPEFULLY YOU SEE THAT WE'VE HAD A REALLY ENJOYABLE TIME AND A LOT OF GOOD WORK TO TRY AND PROVIDE YOU WITH THE VERY BEST NEW CTE CENTER. QUESTIONS.
I DO. WELL, MY SON WAS IN AUTO TECH, AND I HAD A TOUR OF THE AUTO TECH FACILITY AT PATRICK [INAUDIBLE], AND MY DAUGHTER IS IN AUTO TECH RIGHT NOW AT [INAUDIBLE] AND I WAS LOOKING AT THE I'M SORRY, I WAS LOOKING SORRY.
I WAS LOOKING AT THE, HOW YOU WENT THROUGH THAT THERE'S GOING TO BE AUTO TECH ON THE FACILITY.
IS THAT JUST ONE, OPEN GARAGE DOOR? NO, WE HAVE MULTIPLE MULTIPLE, OVERHEAD GARAGE DOORS.
YES, MA'AM. THERE'S ONE ON THE SIDE.
THERE'S SIX IN THE BAY IN THE BACK IN THE SERVICE BAY.
OKAY. AND THEN THEY WOULD HAVE, INSIDE IT WOULD BE BIG ENOUGH INSIDE TO STORE THE CARDS THAT THEY'RE WORKING ON? RIGHT. IT'S GOING TO BE THE COLLISION CENTER.
SO EACH SENIOR HIGH WILL HAVE AUTO TECH, AND THE CT CENTER WILL HOUSE THE AUTO COLLISION REPAIR.
OKAY. SO IT'LL HAVE SOME SIMILARITIES, BUT THE PROGRAM IS ACTUALLY IS AT THE CTE CENTER WILL BE IT'S CURRENTLY HOUSED AT PLANO SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL.
BUT THAT AUTO COLLISION WILL MOVE IN THAT WAY.
IT'S ACCESSIBLE BY THE ENTIRE DISTRICT.
I HAD TWO QUESTIONS IF I COULD.
YOU SORT OF MENTIONED ROOM TO GROW OR EXPANSION BUILT INTO THE PLANS.
COULD YOU EXPAND ON THAT JUST A TEENY BIT? CURRENTLY WHAT WE'RE SHOWING IS THE YARD IS LARGER.
SO WE'LL GO BACK TO THE SITE HERE YOU CAN SEE BEHIND THE HIGH BAYS FOR CONSTRUCTION AND AUTO TECH.
THERE'S A DASHED LINE SHOWING THAT WE AFFORDS US TO EXPAND IN THAT DIRECTION BASED ON THE PROPERTY.
SO THAT WAS A LOT OF OUR DISCUSSION IN TERMS OF HOW INDUSTRIES ARE CHANGING, HOW, UNFORESEEN NEW FUTURE OCCUPATIONS ARE NOT EVEN HERE YET. BUT THAT WAS A LOT OF OUR DISCUSSION, BEING ABLE TO BE ADAPTABLE AND, CHANGEABLE FOR THIS.
DOES THAT ANSWER YOUR QUESTION? YEAH. THANK YOU. AND THEN.
I WAS JUST GOING TO ADD THAT ONE OF THE COMMITTEES THAT WE BROUGHT IN WERE INDUSTRY PARTNERS TO PROVIDE FEEDBACK ON EQUIPMENT OR WHAT THE SPACE NEEDED TO LOOK LIKE FOR, FOR STUDENTS. AND THAT WAS A GREAT LEARNING EXERCISE FOR US.
AND ONE OF THEIR RECOMMENDATIONS IS, YOU KNOW, THAT'S NOT REALLY NEEDED.
[01:00:01]
AND SO THAT WAS VERY BENEFICIAL.AND THAT'S REALLY RETHINKING HOW WE UTILIZE THE SPACES.
AND THEN WE ARE ONE OF THE GOALS WAS TO TRY TO FIND SPACES THAT COULD ALLOW FOR FLEXIBILITY OR TO EASILY ADAPT OVER TIME IF WE NEEDED TO DO SOMETHING A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENTLY OR MOVE AND NOT BE SO CONFINED TO, A.
MAYBE THE WAY WE'VE TRADITIONALLY THOUGHT OF SOME OF THE LABS TO BE AWESOME.
SO THE SECOND QUESTION IS ABOUT THE TRAFFIC FLOW ON AND OFF OF ALMA AND PARK.
ONE OF THE THINGS I THINK IS SUCH A BENEFIT OF THIS PROPERTY IS THAT WE HAVE TWO MAJOR STREETS, RIGHT? EVEN TWO OF OUR THREE SENIOR HIGHS DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO TWO MAJOR STREETS.
AND WHEN YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT TEENAGE DRIVERS AND BUSSING, ALL OF THIS BUSSING AND EVERYTHING ELSE, YOU KNOW, YOU KIND OF HAVE SOME CONCERN ABOUT THAT FROM A SAFETY PERSPECTIVE. SO CAN YOU WALK US THROUGH A LITTLE BIT THE THOUGHT PROCESS ON DESIGNING? JUST BEING ABLE TO GET ON AND OFF OF THIS PROPERTY FOR THE BUSSING AND, YOU KNOW, OUR TEENAGE DRIVERS AND HOW Y'ALL APPROACH THAT.
CERTAINLY. YOU CAN SEE THROUGH THE COLOR INDICATED LINES HERE.
THE ORANGE WAS TO PROVIDE FOR THE BUS DROP OFF.
THEN THE DARKER BLUE WAS SERVICE AS WELL.
SO THAT IS A REALLY STRONG BENEFIT OF THIS SITE, NOT ONLY JUST FROM ALMA AND PARK, BUT EVEN THE NEIGHBORING, OFFICE PARK AND BEING ABLE TO HAVE ACCESS ON THAT SOUTHERN PORTION.
SO WE BELIEVE THIS SHOULD REALLY DIVIDE AND SEPARATE A LOT OF THE DRIVERS AND THE BUS DROP OFF.
YOU'RE WELCOME. CAN I JUST ASK A COUPLE OF REALLY QUICK QUESTIONS? HOW DID WE COME UP WITH THE PROGRAMING? HOW DID WE DECIDE WHICH PROGRAMS WE PUT IN THE CTE CENTER? I THINK KAREN CAN ANSWER THAT PROBABLY BETTER THAN ANYBODY.
SO YOU'LL SEE SOME OF THESE PROGRAMS THAT WE HAVE ARE EXPANSIONS OF CURRENT PROGRAMS THAT WE HAVE.
I ALWAYS USE THE EXAMPLE ARTS AND AV.
AND SO WE'RE OBVIOUSLY EXPANDING THAT.
WE ALSO WANT TO MAKE SURE OUR KIDS HAVE AN EQUITABLE EXPERIENCE.
SO LIKE DR. WILLIAMS SAID, WE'RE PLANO SENIOR HIGH HAS A COLLISION CENTER.
WE NEED TO SERVE ALL OF OUR KIDS, AND THAT'S REALLY IMPORTANT TO US.
AND THEN ALSO WHAT IS WORKFORCE SAYING THAT WE NEED? SO WE PULL LABOR MARKET DATA.
THAT IS SOMETHING THAT THE TEAM AND I ARE CONSTANTLY REVIEWING AS LABOR MARKET DATA TO SEE WHAT DO WE CURRENTLY HAVE, WHO ARE WE ABLE TO SERVE, AND WHAT IS THE UP AND COMING WORKFORCE NEED FOR THE AREA.
YOU SURVEYED STUDENTS AND YOU ALL LOOKED AT TREND DATA AS FAR AS WHAT STUDENTS ARE INTERESTED IN.
YEAH, STUDENTS, WE GOT PARENT FEEDBACK.
DO WE CONSIDER ANY CYBERSECURITY AT ALL? CYBERSECURITY IS IN THE PROGRAM.
IT IS HERE. IT IS GOING, I BELIEVE, UP ON THE SECOND FLOOR.
THAT IS GOING TO BE WE HAVE WHAT WE CALL CYBERSECURITY RIGHT NOW.
IT'S OUR COMPUTER SCIENCE CLASSES, BUT WE'RE LOOKING TO FULLY ROLL OUT A CYBERSECURITY PROGRAM.
DOES ANYBODY ELSE HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? I'M JUST CURIOUS, IN TERMS OF ACCESSIBILITY, ARE THERE ANY THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN IN PART OF THE STRUCTURAL THAT IS EXCEEDS WHAT'S REQUIRED TO MEET OUR STUDENTS? BECAUSE THERE'S LOTS OF TALK ABOUT, YOU KNOW, CAREER DEVELOPMENT BEING REALLY IMPORTANT FOR THOSE STUDENTS WHO ARE, YOU KNOW, INTELLECTUAL DIFFERENCES AND THAT OPPORTUNITY. WELL, IN TERMS OF THE FACILITY ITSELF, IN TERMS OF BEING ABLE TO ACCOMMODATE STUDENTS, THAT IS A PART OF OUR PROCESS, MAKING SURE EVERYTHING IS EASILY ACCESSIBLE, THAT THERE'S NO LIMITATIONS TO ANY STUDENT IN TERMS OF THEIR ABILITY TO USE ANY PORTION OF THE FACILITY.
[01:05:06]
BOTH. THERE'S AN ELEVATOR CENTRALLY LOCATED FOR STUDENTS TO ACCESS THE SECOND FLOOR.SO UNFORTUNATELY, THIS IS A FLAT SITE.
SO IT WOULD BE A VERY, I THINK, EASY CAMPUS FOR SOMEONE TO.
AND THEN ALSO I SEE THE LARGE COLLAB SPACE THAT'S IN THE CENTER.
CAN YOU TALK MORE. AND I SEE SEVERAL COLLAB SPACES THROUGHOUT.
YOU TALK ABOUT THE RATIONALE FOR WHERE THOSE WENT AND HOW YOU SEE STUDENTS USING THAT SPACE.
CERTAINLY. SO WE HAD A LOT OF CONVERSATION AROUND COLLAB SPACE.
COLLAB SPACE IS A VERY POPULAR TERM IN EDUCATION TODAY AND IN FACILITIES TODAY.
IT NEEDS TO HAVE, VISIBLE, ACCESS TO IT.
THEY ARE AN ADJACENT SPACE THAT'S USABLE IMMEDIATELY OUTSIDE OF THE INSTRUCTIONAL SPACE.
SO, THAT WAS A DISCUSSED QUITE OFTEN IN QUITE A BIT IN TERMS OF OUR SOLUTION.
THE LAST QUESTION I HAVE IS IT LOOKS LIKE IF I'M SEEING THE BATHROOM DESIGN CORRECTLY, THAT YOU HAVE BOTH, BATHROOMS TO MEET MULTIPLE STUDENTS, BUT ALSO PRIVACY SPACE FOR STUDENTS, IS THAT WHAT AM I SEEING THAT CORRECTLY ON THE DRAWINGS? INDIVIDUAL STALLS, RESTROOMS FOR THOSE, TO BE ACCOMMODATED? WELL, I'M JUST SAYING IT LOOKS LIKE THEY'RE INDIVIDUAL ROOMS. YEAH, I SEE THE INDIVIDUAL STALLS, BUT THERE'S INDIVIDUAL ROOMS FOR THOSE STUDENTS WHO FEEL LIKE THEY NEED TO HAVE MORE PRIVACY.
YOU'RE WELCOME. I'LL JUST ADD TWO THINGS TO THAT ONE.
BUT FOR EXAMPLE, STUDENTS THAT MAY BE IN OUR ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAM MAY ACTUALLY WORK WITH STUDENTS THAT ARE IN CULINARY THAT WANT TO, START TO PUT TOGETHER A BUSINESS CONCEPT, AND THEN THEY MAY PULL IN THIS, YOU KNOW, SOMEONE FROM THE ARTS AND AV OR SOMEONE FROM GRAPHIC DESIGNS.
AND SO THIS PROVIDES A SPACE FOR, CROSS COLLABORATION BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT GROUPS AND DIFFERENT PROGRAMS. I'M JUST WONDERING, WHAT? THOUGHTS WENT INTO MAKING THE BUILDING AS ENERGY EFFICIENT AS POSSIBLE.
I KNOW WE'RE GOING TO GET QUESTIONS FROM OUR COMMUNITY ABOUT THIS.
AND, YOU KNOW, FOR OUR FOLKS WHO WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'VE DONE OUR VERY BEST.
TO BUILD A GOOD, SAFE, EFFICIENT BUILDING.
YES, MA'AM. I WOULD SAY OUR FIRST STEP WAS TO BE DILIGENT ABOUT A COMPACT PLAN IN TERMS OF USING THE FOOTPRINT WAS A START THE ORIENTATION AND MAKING SURE THAT WE ARE DOING AN APPROPRIATE ORIENTATION IN TERMS OF, THOSE EXPOSURES AND MAKING SURE THAT WE'RE PLACING THE BUILDING IN THAT FASHION.
WE'RE ALSO USING IN SOME AREAS TRANSLUCENT PANEL.
THAT'S A THERMALLY INSULATED PANEL.
SO WE HAVE TAKEN MEASURES AND HAVE THOSE CONVERSATIONS TO MAKE SURE THAT IT'S ENERGY EFFICIENT.
I MIGHT HAVE. I HAVE A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS.
ONE, I KNOW THAT YOU IN HERE, YOU TALK ABOUT THE STORM SHELTER.
CAN YOU SHOW US WHERE THAT AREA IS? I COULDN'T FIGURE IT OUT.
SO THE PORTION OF THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE.
SO WE'RE SEEING THE PURPLE AREA AT THE BOTTOM, IT GOES ALL THE WAY UP TO THE BOTTOM PORTION OF ROBOTICS. SO YOU SEE THOSE TWO LIGHTER COLORED CLASSROOMS AND ALL OF THAT PURPLE, RIGHT? THAT IS WHAT WILL, YOU CAN ALSO SEE GRAPHICALLY, YOU CAN KIND OF SEE ON THE FAR LEFT WHERE YOU SEE THE GRAY AND THE ELECTRICAL, AND THERE'S A LITTLE DARKER LINE, SO THAT WHOLE LOWER CENTER QUADRANT IS WHAT WILL ENCOMPASS THE SHELTER.
[01:10:01]
BECAUSE I KNOW, WE HAVE TO COMPLY WITH THAT IN ANY NEW BUILDING.I HAVE A QUICK QUESTION ON SLIDE SIX, IF YOU DON'T MIND.
THE SOLAR EXPOSURE, DOES THAT GIVE US AN OPPORTUNITY TO DO ANY SOLAR POWER OR PANELS ON THE ROOF, OR CAN WE TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT? I KNOW THAT'S KIND OF AN EMERGING INDUSTRY IN OUR STUDENTS COULD LEARN FROM THAT.
WE COULD DEFINITELY STUDY THAT OPPORTUNITY TO GENERATE SOME POWER THROUGH.
WE'VE GOT QUITE A BIT OF FLAT ROOF AREA THAT WE COULD EXPLORE PLACING THEM ON IT FOR SURE, AND IT COULD BE A LEARNING OPPORTUNITY IN TERMS OF HOW THAT'S YEAH, THAT'S DONE. OKAY.
[INAUDIBLE]. WELL, GENTLEMEN, THANK YOU SO MUCH.
WE'RE TRULY EXCITED ABOUT THIS.
I'M THE CRAZY BOARD MEMBER THAT LOVES CTE.
SO WE'RE. I'M SO EXCITED, WE ALL WANT IT? I KNOW, BUT IT'S GOING TO BE SUCH A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR OUR STUDENTS.
AND SO WE CAN'T WAIT FOR IT TO GET HERE.
YEAH. THANK YOU. IT'S BEEN A PRIVILEGE.
AND WE'VE REALLY ENJOYED IT. SO THANK YOU.
GO AHEAD. I'M SORRY. WAS THERE A GARDEN ON THE SITE TOO, OR NO? A GARDEN WHERE STUDENTS CAN GROW THEIR OWN FOOD WHILE THERE.
BECAUSE WE HAVE THE CULINARY [INAUDIBLE].
WE CURRENTLY DO NOT HAVE THAT ON OUR SITE.
BUT IT'S SOMETHING WE COULD DISCUSS AND THERE COULD BE POSSIBILITY.
I'LL JUST THROW IN THERE. THEY SELL LIKE SHIPPING CONTAINER.
HYDROPONIC GARDENS LIKE THAT ARE SHIPPING CONTAINER SIZE.
SO. I JUST WANT TO MAKE ONE LAST COMMENT.
SO ANTOINE GAVE US THE TAPR REPORT.
AND THAT'S THE AREA IN CCMR THAT WE REALLY EXCEL.
WE APPRECIATE YOU BEING HERE TONIGHT.
[9.2. Plano for Your Future Update]
WE MOVE ON TO ITEM 9.2 OF REPORTS AND IT IS PLANO FOR YOUR FUTURE UPDATE.AND I WILL TURN THIS OVER TO LISA WILSON.
SO I JUST WANT TO GROUND US JUST A LITTLE BIT IN THE FACT THAT THIS WORK IS ALL ROOTED IN THE BELIEFS THAT HAVE BEEN ESTABLISHED BY THIS BOARD, PARTICULARLY THOSE THAT I HAVE HIGHLIGHTED ON THE SCREEN.
SO WE'RE TALKING ABOUT STUDENTS.
WE'RE TALKING ABOUT GROWTH AND ACHIEVEMENT AND HIGH EXPECTATIONS, PARTNERING WITH FAMILIES AND COMMUNITY, MAKING SURE OUR STUDENTS ARE READY FOR GRADUATION, AND ALSO MAKING SURE THAT OUR LEARNING EXPERIENCES ARE RELEVANT.
I'LL ALSO REMIND YOU ABOUT THE STRATEGIC PLAN PILLAR TWO FOR LIFE READINESS, THE THREE OBJECTIVES YOU SEE ON THE SCREEN TALKING ABOUT EXPANDING PATHWAYS. YOU'VE HEARD FROM OUR PARTNERS AT HUCKABEE HOW THEY'RE MAKING THE SPACE AVAILABLE FOR US.
[01:15:07]
AND THEY ALL HAVE DIFFERENT DREAMS. AND SO HOW DO WE MAKE SURE THOSE ENGAGING, RELEVANT PATHWAYS ARE AVAILABLE FOR EVERYONE? THE OTHER THING WE HAD THE GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO HEAR LAST YEAR, AS WE WERE MEETING WITH COMMUNITY MEMBERS ABOUT OUR STRATEGIC PLAN, WE HEARD OVER AND OVER THAT THEY WOULD THEY JUST DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT ALL THE THINGS THAT WERE AVAILABLE IN PLANO.MAYBE KNEW A NEIGHBOR OR SOMETHING, BUT REALLY DIDN'T HAVE THE INFORMATION THAT THEY NEEDED TO KNOW HOW TO HELP THEIR STUDENTS PLAN IN EARLY YEARS AND REALLY WORK THROUGH TO GET TO THOSE PATHWAYS THAT THEY WANTED FOR THEIR FUTURE.
SO WE WANTED TO, IN THE STRATEGIC PLAN, IMPROVE THAT MARKETING AND COMMUNICATION FOCUS TO MAKE SURE ALL OF OUR STUDENTS AND OUR PARENTS WERE WERE DEFINITELY KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT WHAT'S GOING ON.
SO ENTER PLANO FOR YOUR FUTURE.
SO IT IS A LITTLE BIT OF A PLAY ON WORDS.
IT'S PLAN FOR YOUR FUTURE HERE IN PLANO.
WHATEVER IT IS THAT A CHILD DREAMS, WE HAVE THAT PATHWAY HERE IN PLANO.
AND SO WE HAVE A WE'RE WORKING ON.
JUST LOOK HOW OVERWHELMING THIS CAN BE.
THINK ABOUT A STUDENT LOOKING AT THIS LIST.
I JUST WANTED YOU TO SEE THE VOLUME OF DIFFERENT PATHWAYS THAT ARE AVAILABLE.
WE ALSO HAVE NOT ONLY GREAT OPPORTUNITIES AT EACH HIGH SCHOOL THAT ARE REPEATED AT EACH HIGH SCHOOL, BUT WE ALSO HAVE SOME SPECIFIC ACADEMIES, SUCH AS OUR HEALTH SCIENCE ACADEMY, OUR NEW WILDCAT COLLEGIATE ACADEMY, AND COMING SOON TO PLANO WEST, AN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING ACADEMY.
SO WE HAVE SOME SPECIFIC THINGS FOR EACH CAMPUS.
BUT WE DO HAVE A GREAT GROWING CTE PROGRAM, SUCH AN IMPORTANT OPPORTUNITY FOR OUR STUDENTS TO BECOME CAREER READY, BUILD THEIR PROFESSIONAL SKILLS, AND WE DO WANT TO GET THEM TO THOSE HIGH WAGE, HIGH DEMAND JOBS WHEN THEY LEAVE US, WHETHER THAT'S GOING TO A UNIVERSITY TO CONTINUE THAT OR GOING STRAIGHT INTO A CAREER.
THESE ARE EXCITING PATHWAYS COMING TO OUR CTE CENTER, AND I'M GOING TO VERY QUICKLY WORK THROUGH SOME VISION BOARDS THAT WE'RE WORKING ON, SHOWING YOU THE EXCITING THINGS THAT ARE GOING TO BE AVAILABLE TO OUR STUDENTS.
SO AT THE NEW CTE CENTER, WE'LL HAVE ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN.
YOU CAN SEE SOME OF THE THINGS THERE.
THEY'LL BE ABLE TO DO 3D PRINTING, ALL KINDS OF GREAT ARCHITECTURAL THINGS, CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY ALONG THE BACKSIDE OF THAT CTE CENTER, LOOKING AT THE GREAT CAREERS THAT ARE AVAILABLE THERE, BUILDING MAINTENANCE, SOMETIMES WORKING WITH OUR CONSTRUCTION DESIGN, AS DOCTOR WILLIAMS WAS TALKING ABOUT WORKING WITH OTHER PROGRAMS TOGETHER, OUR ADVANCED MANUFACTURING AND ROBOTICS.
SO MANY THINGS EXCITING IN THE AREA.
AND THERE'S SOME NEW COMPANIES IN PLANO THAT ARE EXCITED ABOUT WORKING WITH US AND ROBOTICS AND MANUFACTURING, TALKING ABOUT WELDING TECHNOLOGY WE'RE SUPER EXCITED ABOUT WE'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT THE WELDING BAYS AND ALL THE THINGS THAT WE'RE GOING TO PUT IN PLACE.
WE KNOW THIS IS A REALLY BOOMING OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS.
CYBERSECURITY, MICHAEL, AS YOU MENTIONED, WE LOOK FORWARD TO BRING IT UP ON THE SECOND FLOOR, HAVING OUR CYBERSECURITY PROGRAM, THE ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING THAT WE'RE LOOKING TO PLACE AT PLANO WEST DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC SERVICES, WHICH MAY INCLUDE RADIOLOGY TECHNICIANS LOOKING AT THAT IN OUR CTE CENTER, CULINARY ARTS, OF COURSE, BEING A CORNERSTONE DOWN ON THE BOTTOM WHERE THEY'LL HAVE A CAFE WHERE IT KIND OF LOOKS LIKE PEOPLE COULD COME IN, HAVE SOMETHING TO EAT, GO TO THE BANK, GET THEIR HAIR DONE, ALL KINDS OF THINGS THAT'LL BE AVAILABLE TO OUR COMMUNITY LODGING AND RESORT MANAGEMENT, AUTOMOTIVE.
WE TALKED ABOUT THAT A LITTLE BIT EARLIER.
THE PAINT AND COLLISION REPAIR AGAIN ON THAT BACK SIDE, THE DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS REALLY GETTING OUR STUDENTS WITH SOME STATE OF THE ART EQUIPMENT AND REALLY BEING CUTTING EDGE AND WHAT THEY'RE ABLE TO DO AND PREPARE FOR CAREERS IN THAT GRAPHIC DESIGN AND INTERACTIVE MEDIA.
ALWAYS A GREAT CAREER OPPORTUNITY.
[01:20:02]
BUSINESS MANAGEMENT TO GO ALONG WITH THAT ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND LETTING STUDENTS REALLY DREAM, WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY'RE GOING TO TO BUILD FOR US, WHO KNOWS WHAT PROGRAMS THEY WILL BE DREAMING OF NEXT, THINGS WE CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE YET.IT'S CERTAINLY A GREAT PORTION OF IT.
BUT WE ALSO, AGAIN AS YOU HEARD EARLIER, WE HAVE ALL KINDS OF LEARNING ACADEMIES.
SO THE HEALTH SCIENCES, OUR TONI AND GUY COSMETOLOGY PROGRAM THAT WE'VE LAUNCHED.
OF COURSE, OUR LONG STANDING, SUCCESSFUL IB PROGRAMS, OUR INDUSTRIES ACADEMIES AND OUR PLANO ACADEMY HIGH SCHOOL, WHICH IS OUR PROJECT BASED LEARNING HIGH SCHOOL. SO LOTS OF OPPORTUNITIES WE ARE PUTTING TOGETHER THIS CAMPAIGN PLANO FOR YOUR FUTURE.
WE WANT TO SPLASH IT ALL OVER THE PLACE TO MAKE SURE THAT WHEN PARENTS SEE, MESSAGES COMING WITH THIS LOGO, THEY KNOW IT'S SOMETHING ABOUT AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THEIR CHILD OR THINGS THEY MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN EXPLORING.
SO WE REALLY WANT TO USE THIS TO BE MEMORABLE AND CATCH FOLKS EYES.
WE'VE BEEN WORKING WITH AN AGENCY, OUTSIDE AGENCY TO HELP US GET SOME GREAT IDEAS.
SO COMING SOON! WE HAVE A LOT OF THINGS UP OUR SLEEVE THAT WE WANT TO INCREASE FOR OUR PARENTS AND STUDENTS.
WE STARTED WITH A MARKETING CAMPAIGN, AND HAD AN APPROACH TO MARKETING, AND I HAVE TO ALSO SHARE THAT ONE OF THE HUCKABEE FOLKS HELPED US WITH THIS BEAUTIFUL PLANO FOR YOUR FUTURE LOGO. SO THANK YOU FOR THAT.
BUT WE WANT TO DEFINITELY EXECUTE THIS PROJECT ACROSS A VARIETY OF CHANNELS.
AND OUR MARKETING FOLKS TELL US WE NEED TO WORK ON OUR WEBSITE, MAYBE MAKE AN INTERACTIVE.
WE WANT TO DO A LOT OF EMAIL AND TARGETED EMAILS SPECIFIC TO GRADE LEVELS, WITH THINGS THEY MIGHT WANT TO BE CONSIDERING HITTING SOCIAL MEDIA, GETTING STORIES OUT ABOUT OUR STUDENTS.
I KNOW WE DID A LOT OF THAT THIS YEAR.
DOCTOR EDNEY AND HER TEAM HOSTED A LOT OF SESSIONS FOR PARENTS TO LEARN ABOUT OUR ACADEMIES, DEVELOPING BROCHURES AND A-FRAMES TO GET OUT THERE WITH MORE INFORMATION, WITH THE QR CODE, TO GO TO THE WEBSITE, AND REALLY JUST BEEFING UP OUR INFORMATION OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS AND FOR PARENTS, AND ALSO FOR OUR COUNSELORS AND TEACHERS TO MAKE SURE THAT AS WE BUILD THESE NEW PROGRAMS, WE BRING OUR STAFF ALONG SO THEY UNDERSTAND WHAT'S AVAILABLE FOR OUR STUDENTS.
ALL RIGHT. ANY QUESTIONS? HEY, LISA, HAVE WE CONSIDERED, FIELD TRIPS FOR OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL TO LIKE, OUR CTE CENTER? BECAUSE I DO WONDER IF PART OF THE KNOWLEDGE GAP IS PEOPLE NOT UNDERSTANDING WHAT'S POSSIBLE.
WELL, I KNOW MY PARENTS ONLY KNEW THREE CAREERS.
THEY KNEW DOCTOR, LAWYER, ENGINEER.
THAT WAS IT. THEY DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING BEYOND THAT.
AND SO I DO WONDER, IS THERE A WAY FOR US TO GET MORE STUDENTS AND MORE PARENTS INTO THAT PLACE, SORT OF TO SEE WHAT IT HAS TO OFFER? THAT'S A GREAT QUESTION.
BUT YES, I DO THINK IT WILL BE A.
I MEAN, AS YOU CAN SEE, THE CTE CENTER IS GOING TO BE ALIVE.
I MEAN, IT'S GOING TO BE AN EXCITING PLACE KIDS ARE GOING TO WANT TO BE.
I THINK KAREN PROBABLY HAS A COUPLE OF THINGS TO SHARE ABOUT THAT.
SO I'M JUST PUTTING HER ON THE SPOT.
REALLY, I GUESS A COUPLE YEARS AGO, WE LOOKED AT BRINGING ALL MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS UP TO THE SENIOR HIGHS, AND THAT WAS SOMETHING WE REALLY HAD IN THE WORKS, AND WE WERE READY TO LAUNCH, AND THEN COVID AND ALL THOSE THINGS.
BUT THE CTE CENTER WILL BE THE PERFECT OPPORTUNITY TO DO THAT BECAUSE WE CAN HAVE STUDENTS COME THROUGH THERE WITHOUT REALLY DISRUPTING LEARNING AS MUCH BECAUSE IT'S GOING EVERYTHING'S GOING TO KIND OF BE SHOWCASED THERE.
AND SO YES, WE ACTUALLY ALREADY HAVE LIKE SCHEDULES PUT IN PLACE THAT WE WERE GOING TO USE.
WE ALSO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO OBVIOUSLY, WE REALLY WANT THE CTE CENTER TO BE COMMUNITY FACING.
AND SO ONCE THEY COME INTO OUR FACILITY AND EXPERIENCE OUR FACILITY THROUGH SOME OF OUR PROGRAMS, THEY CAN GO OUT AND TELL THEIR FRIENDS AND PROMOTE IT THAT WAY AND THEN ALSO DO OPEN HOUSES.
WE CAN DO VIRTUAL FLY BY OPEN HOUSES, BUT WE CAN ALSO DO IN-PERSON.
CAN YOU SHARE A LITTLE BIT ALSO TO JUST SOME OF THE STRATEGIES THAT WE HAVE PLANNED FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL AND ALSO OUR NEW LAUNCH OF OUR IS IT FUTURE? YES. YEAH. SO, IF Y'ALL WILL REMEMBER THIS YEAR WE DID OUR FIND OUR FUTURE EVENT THAT, HAS KIND OF WE HAD A REALLY GOOD FEEDBACK FROM OUR
[01:25:01]
STUDENTS WHERE EVERY STUDENT WENT THROUGH AND DID, CAREER ASSESSMENTS AND FROM THE CAREER ASSESSMENTS, THEY WENT IN AND GOT TO DO SOME, CAREER PANELS FROM INDUSTRY EXPERTS.ALL SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADERS DID THAT THIS YEAR BECAUSE THEY HADN'T HAD THAT EXPERIENCE.
WE'RE GOING TO LOOK AT WHAT GRADES THAT'S REALLY PERTAINS TO FOR NEXT YEAR.
WE'VE ALSO BROUGHT SOME OF OUR HIGH SCHOOL COURSES DOWN TO THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL, SO KIDS CAN GET ENROLLED IN THOSE PROGRAMS AS STUDY AND HAVE THOSE EXPERIENCES EARLIER AND FIND OUT WHAT THEY LIKE AND DON'T LIKE.
AND IF THEY FIND OUT THAT THEY LIKE SOMETHING, THEN THEY'RE ON A PATH, FOR THE FUTURE.
WE HAVE KIND OF REVAMPED OUR ADVISORY COMMITTEE THIS YEAR, REALLY LOOKED AT OUR MARKETING PLANS, AND WE HAVE BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY PEOPLE, WE HAVE PARENTS, WE HAVE STUDENTS, WE HAVE STAFF MEMBERS. AND SO OUR FIRST MEETING, WE REALLY LAID OUR MARKETING STUFF OUT THERE FOR THEM AND SAID, GIVE US THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE UGLY.
AND WE GOT SOME GREAT FEEDBACK FROM THEM, WHICH WE WERE ABLE TO TWEAK AND MOVE FORWARD TO, ROLL OUT SOME THIS YEAR, BUT THEN ALSO FOR THE FUTURE. SO I'M SURE I'M MISSING SOMETHING, BUT I IT'S NOT OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD RIGHT NOW, SO.
CAN YOU TALK ABOUT THE EVENT SPACE, THE LOBBY? LIKE, HOW BIG IS THAT? IS IT ABOUT THE SIZE OF THIS ROOM? SO WHEN WE TALKED ABOUT I'M GOING OFF MY CUFF.
SO IF WE WERE TO TAKE, THE CAFE SHOULD HAVE OPENING DOORS THAT OPEN UP.
OKAY. I'M GETTING HEAD SHAKES, SO I'M ON TRACK.
THEY HAVE THAT SPACE THAT OPENS UP, AND THEN WE CAN ALSO USE THE EVENT SPACE.
I BELIEVE THAT WE CAN FIT 208 PEOPLE IF I'M RIGHT, AT 60 INCH ROUND TABLES.
THE FLEX SPACE IS THE SAME SIZE, RIGHT? SO WE ALSO HAVE THE FLEX SPACE AS WELL.
SO AND IF YOU'RE AT SKI PLANO THIS WEEKEND WE SAW THAT RECTANGLE TABLES LOOKED REALLY AWESOME.
SO WE MAY NOT HAVE 60 INCH ROUNDS.
YOU NEVER KNOW. NO I WAS JUST THINKING SPELLING BEE AND OTHER THINGS LIKE THAT ARE DISTRICT WIDE.
YOU KNOW, THEY'RE YOUNGER KIDS.
THAT WOULD BE AN AWESOME OPPORTUNITY TO BRING THEM INTO THE BUILDING.
YEAH. I HAVE A COUPLE QUESTIONS.
BUT FIRST, I WAS, LIKE, STUPIDLY EXCITED ABOUT THIS LOGO WHEN I SAW IT BETWEEN LIKE, THE PLAY ON WORDS AND THE ACRONYM AND JUST THE WAY THAT IT WAS DESIGNED.
THE TARGET, LIKE, YOU KNOW, I JUST KUDOS, TO WHOEVER CAME UP WITH THAT.
SO MY FIRST QUESTION IS ABOUT UNIVERSITIES AND THE TAPR REPORT.
AND THEN THEY HAVE A HUGE LIKE, CENTER FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP GOING ON.
AND SO AS I WAS SORT OF DOING PACKET REVIEW THIS WEEK AND TYING THOSE PRESENTATIONS TOGETHER, I WAS CURIOUS WHAT KIND OF, WE TALK A LOT ABOUT BUSINESS FEEDBACK, BUT WHAT KIND OF UNIVERSITY FEEDBACK ARE WE SEEKING FROM, LOCAL PARTNERS, PARTICULARLY ONES THAT ARE STUDENTS ARE HEADED WE KNOW THEY'RE HEADED FOR.
RIGHT? WE DO INVOLVE UNIVERSITIES IN THAT.
IN FACT, WE HAD IN OUR ROUND TABLES WHERE WE WERE LOOKING AT PROGRAMING AND DESIGN.
WE HAD NOT ONLY INDUSTRY EXPERTS BUT ALSO COLLEGE PARTNERS.
AND YES, WE'VE GOT SOME GREAT PARTNERS IN LOCAL UNIVERSITIES IN THE AREA.
GREAT. THE SECOND QUESTION I HAD WAS TO TOUCH ON SEQUENCING, BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE AS WE'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT THE ACCOUNTABILITY CHANGES, ONE OF THE THINGS WE'VE BEEN HEARING ABOUT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF COMPLETING A COURSE OF STUDY AND SEQUENCING.
CAN YOU JUST SORT OF REITERATE WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT IN THE CONTEXT OF THE ACCOUNTABILITY CHANGES IN SEQUENCING? AND THEN ALSO, HOW DO YOU SORT OF ENVISION THINGS FLOWING FROM LIKE MIDDLE SCHOOL TO HIGH SCHOOL TO CTE CENTER OR, YOU KNOW, THE PATHS THERE? THAT'S A GREAT QUESTION.
SO WE START TALKING TO THE STUDENTS EARLIER ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT THEY HAVE.
YOU MAY ALSO REMEMBER THIS YEAR THAT YOU APPROVED NEW COURSEWORK FOR NEXT YEAR.
[01:30:08]
BECAUSE IT CAN BE CONFUSING.AND YOU SAW A WHOLE LOT OF THINGS, A WHOLE LOT OF OPTIONS.
AND SO WE NEED TO PROVIDE CLARITY ON THAT.
SO I THINK JUST EDUCATION COMMUNICATION EARLIER ON MAKING SURE KIDS HAVE ACCESS EARLIER.
AND WE DO THINK THAT'S THE SEQUENCE START IN MIDDLE SCHOOL.
SO HERE'S THE ULTIMATE QUESTION.
DO WE HAVE A TIMELINE ON WHEN WE THINK SOME OF THIS STUFF'S GOING TO GET ROLLED OUT? YES. WE HAVE ACTUALLY A REALLY.
SO FOR THAT TO HAPPEN, WE HAVE TO HAVE STUDENTS WHO ARE READY FOR THAT LEVEL COURSEWORK.
SO WE NEED TO BACK UP THE PROGRAMS, THE PREREQUISITES.
SO THERE'S A WHOLE PROGRAM TRACK AND SEQUENCE OF COURSES.
AND WHEN THOSE NEED TO BE DEVELOPED FOR EACH ONE OF THOSE PROGRAMS THAT YOU SAW.
SO WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION TO HOW WE'RE COMMUNICATING ALL OF THIS TO OUR PARENTS, BECAUSE I COULD SEE LOADS OF VERY ANXIOUS PARENTS WORRYING ABOUT, OH MY GOD, I MISSED THIS.
AND YOU KNOW, I ALREADY HEAR THAT ABOUT WHEN WE GET EXCITED ABOUT ABOUT OUR WILDCAT ACADEMY AND HOW MANY PARENTS COME TO ME AND SAY, DANG IT, IT'S TOO LATE FOR MY KID NOW, WHY DID YOU GUYS NOT DO THIS EARLIER? YEAH. SO I THINK WE NEED TO PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION TO MAKING SURE WE COMMUNICATE.
LISA. VERY SMART AND VERY INTENTIONAL.
[9.3. Transportation Consulting Review]
WE'LL MOVE ON TO ITEM NUMBER 9.3, WHICH IS TRANSPORTATION CONSULTING REVIEW.AND JOHNNY HILL, I WILL TURN IT OVER TO YOU.
WOW. YOU'RE GOING TO MAKE ME FOLLOW THAT.
SO, ANYWAY, WE'RE GOING TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT TRANSPORTATION.
I'M GOING TO ASK, MR. MARK SKINNER TO COME ON UP TO THE PODIUM.
HE'S THE DIRECTOR OF TRANSPORTATION.
I WILL SAY THAT WE'VE GOT ABOUT A THIRD OF OUR STUDENTS RIDE THE BUSSES EVERY DAY.
THERE'S A LOT MORE COMPLEXITIES TO THAT.
AND SO WE WENT OUT AND DID A CONSULTING REVIEW OF OUR TRANSPORTATION.
SO FIRST OF ALL, THERE WAS AN OBJECTIVE TO THIS CONSULTING REVIEW THAT WE DID DO.
AND THEY ACTUALLY WENT OUT AND THEY ANALYZED OUR SYSTEMS THAT WE WERE USING.
AND THEY LOOKED AT OUR ROUTES, OUR PROCEDURES, THEY INTERVIEWED OUR KEY PERSONNEL, AND THEN THEY ACTUALLY DID AN ANALYSIS OF PROCEDURES AND PRACTICE THEY OBSERVED, REVIEWED, AND THEN DOCUMENTED THIS OVER TIME.
SO SOME OF THESE AREAS THAT THEY DID GO THROUGH AND THEY REVIEWED, THAT WAS A LITTLE MORE COMPLICATED THAN JUST TRANSPORTING STUDENTS BACK AND FORTH FROM SCHOOL EACH DAY WAS THEY LOOKED AT THE HAZARDOUS ROUTES, THEY LOOKED AT FAIR BUSSING, OUR PROGRAM THAT WE HAVE IN FAIR BUSSING HERE AT PLANO ISD.
THEY LOOKED AT THE MCKINNEY-VENTO ROUTES.
THESE ARE OUR HOMELESS STUDENTS.
WE HAVE OVER A THOUSAND IN OUR DISTRICT THAT ARE IDENTIFIED AS MCKINNEY-VENTO STUDENTS.
THEY LOOKED AT OUR SPECIAL ED ROUTES.
THEY LOOKED AT OUR BILINGUAL ROUTES, OUR COLLIN COLLEGE TECHNICAL COLLEGE SHUTTLES.
THEY LOOKED AT SUMMER SCHOOL AND CHARTER.
SORRY TO INTERRUPT. I JUST WANT TO CLARIFY.
BY CHARTER BUS ROUTES, YOU MEAN CHARTER BUSSES? NOT US BUSSING CHARTER SCHOOL STUDENTS? YES, THAT IS CORRECT.
[01:35:01]
SO AND JUST TO KIND OF GO INTO THAT JUST A LITTLE BIT MORE DR.TARRAH IS BECAUSE WE HAVE A CHALLENGE OF ACTUALLY FILLING ALL OF OUR VACANCIES AND TRANSPORTATION.
CONSULTING REVIEW RECOMMENDATIONS IS, WAS TO PROVIDE TARGETED COST SAVINGS WITHOUT JEOPARDIZING THE MAIN MISSION OF TRANSPORTING STUDENTS TO AND FROM SCHOOL EACH DAY. AND THE RECOMMENDATIONS IN AREAS RELATED TO SCHOOL BUS ROUTES AND SERVICES REFLECT, BEST PRACTICES ACROSS DISTRICTS ACROSS THE STATE.
SO OF THESE AREAS, WE HAVE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO START WORKING ON A LOT OF THESE DIFFERENT ITEMS. WE HAVE MCKINNEY-VENTO ROUTES.
SO WE MAKE SURE THAT ALL OF OUR ALL OF THESE STUDENTS HAD AN OPPORTUNITY, EVEN THOUGH WE MAY NOT HAVE THE CAPACITIES ON OUR WHAT WE CALL OUR YELLOW FLEET OR WE CALL THEM YELLOW DOGS, THAT WE STILL HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO PICK UP THESE STUDENTS EVEN WHERE NO MATTER WHERE THEY LIVE AND BRING THEM INTO OUR SCHOOLS.
SO WE HAVE, ACTUALLY HAVE, I THINK, TWO CONTRACTED SERVICES.
OF COURSE, WE HAVE CERTAIN PROGRAMS THAT ARE TARGETED WITHIN OUR DISTRICT.
AND SO LOOKING FOR WAYS TO IMPROVE, OUR COMMUNICATIONS WITH OUR SPECIAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT.
AND SO I THINK WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO MAKE HEADWAY WITH THAT.
WE'RE NOT THERE YET, BUT WE'VE HAD SOME CONSIDERABLE WORK WITH THE SPECIAL EDUCATION STAFF IN ORDER TO ACCOMMODATE THOSE STUDENTS, COLLIN COUNTY, COMMUNITY TECHNICAL COLLEGE SHUTTLES, THEY'VE ACTUALLY SWITCHED UP, THE TIMES FOR THOSE SERVICES.
SO FOR RIGHT NOW, WE'VE HAD A PULLBACK OFFERING THOSE SHUTTLES THROUGHOUT THE DAY.
BUT WE'RE IN CONSTANT WE ACTUALLY MEET WITH THOSE FOLKS ON A, AT LEAST A YEARLY BASIS TO FIND OUT OPPORTUNITIES THAT WE CAN ACCOMMODATE THE STUDENTS THAT ARE TAKING CLASSES AT COLLIN COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND THEN SUMMER SCHOOL ROUTES, AND THEN AND REALLY CHARTER BUS SERVICES AS WELL, IS MAKING A PROCEDURES, REGULATIONS THAT WE CAN ACTUALLY PUT INTO PLACE, TO ACTUALLY MAKE THESE A LITTLE MORE SEAMLESS.
SO A LOT OF COMMUNICATION GOES INTO GETTING READY FOR SUMMER SCHOOL, GETTING READY FOR CHARTER.
YOU KNOW, WHENEVER WE DO HAVE TO ACTUALLY GO OUTSIDE, WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THERE'S PROCEDURES IN PLACE SO THAT OUR CAMPUSES DON'T IMMEDIATELY JUST CALL A CHARTER BUS SERVICE, WHICH IS, YOU KNOW, QUITE A BIT MORE EXPENSIVE, THAT THEY MADE SURE THAT THEY EXTINGUISHED EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO ACTUALLY USE ONE OF OUR YELLOW FLEET.
AND THAT IS OUR BILINGUAL ROUTES, OUR HAZARDOUS ROUTES, AND OUR FAIR BUSSING.
THESE ARE ITEMS THAT ARE GOING TO BE FOLDED INTO OUR LONG RANGE FACILITY PLAN.
BECAUSE ONE THING THAT WE DON'T WANT TO DO IS BE DISRUPTIVE MORE THAN ONCE.
AND SO WHAT I MEAN BY THAT IS, DEPENDING ON WHAT HAPPENS WITH OUR LONG RANGE FACILITY PLANNING, WE DO NOT WANT TO MAKE CHANGES IN THESE, AREAS AND DISRUPT FAMILIES AND THEN COME BACK A YEAR LATER AND DO THAT AGAIN.
SO WE ARE ROLLING THAT IN AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE INTO OUR LONG RANGE FACILITY PLANNING.
HE'S OUR MANAGER OF ROUTING AND DEMOGRAPHICS.
SO IF YOU CAN IMAGINE EVERY STREET.
EVERY CORNER, EVERY BUSINESS IN PLANO.
AND HE'S ACTUALLY WORKED A LONG TIME FOR OUR DISTRICT, BUT HE ACTUALLY DOES.
YOU CAN ASK HIM JUST ABOUT ANYTHING.
AND HE ACTUALLY HAS TOUCHED EVERY PART OF OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT WITH ROUTES.
AND SO HE IS A WALKING CYCLOPEDIA.
YEAH. SO I APPRECIATE JOSH BEING HERE TO HELP ANSWER QUESTIONS IF WE HAVE ANY AND TO CONTINUE ON.
AND IT DID REVEAL THAT WE HAVE THE FAIR BUSSING SERVICE IS A TRAIN AND HAS UNLIMITED RESOURCES.
IT'S INEQUITABLE, IT'S INEFFICIENT, AND A BURDEN ON THE BUDGET, STAFFING AND GROWING PROGRAM NEEDS.
IT'S UNPREDICTABLE, DIFFICULT TO BUDGET YEAR TO YEAR, AND IT'S NOT OFFERED IN ANY OTHER DISTRICT.
WHAT IS FAIR BUSSING? WELL, THE BEST I CAN.
[01:40:03]
WE THINK IT WAS THE EARLY 90S WHEN THIS BEGAN.SO THAT FIRST BULLET KIND OF EXPLAINS EVERYTHING.
THE FAIR BUSSING SERVICE WAS ESTABLISHED AS AN OUTREACH TO OFFER FEE BASED BUS TRANSPORTATION TO STUDENTS WHO ARE NOT OTHERWISE ELIGIBLE FOR REGULAR TRANSPORTATION DUE TO LIVING LESS THAN TWO MILES FROM THEIR ASSIGNED SCHOOL.
IT'S AVAILABLE IN LIMITED AREAS WHERE WE HAVE BUS CAPACITY.
AS WELL AS THE STUDENTS ATTENDING THE SCHOOL WITHIN THE STUDENTS BOARD APPROVED ATTENDANCE BOUNDARY.
SO IT'S A FIRST COME, FIRST COME SERVE.
IT'S A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE BASIS ONLY IF THERE'S AVAILABLE ROOM.
AND IT'S JUST A VERY DIFFICULT JUST TO PROVIDE THAT EQUITABLE SERVICE.
CURRENTLY, IT'S JUST PRACTICALLY IMPOSSIBLE.
SO WHAT ARE THE IMPLICATIONS? FAIR BUSSING HAS GROWN AND CHANGED OVER TIME TO ACCOMMODATE ROUTES THAT ARE EXCLUSIVELY FAIR BUSSING.
SO THOSE DRIVERS AND THOSE BUSSES, OVER TIME, AS WE GROW AND WE SEE SOME AREAS THAT I'LL SHARE IN A MINUTE, WE ARE NOT ABLE TO PROVIDE SERVICE TO THESE OTHER GROWING PROGRAMS BECAUSE WE'RE SPECIFICALLY TRYING TO TAKE CARE OF THESE FAIR BUSSING AREAS.
WELL, WHAT'S THE IMPLICATIONS OF 5 TO 8 ROUTES? WELL, WE'RE STARTING THE COLLEGIATE ACADEMY.
IT IS A FAIR BUS, FAIR BUSSING BASE.
SO THERE IS A PRICE THAT PRICE IS NOT CHANGED IN OVER TEN YEARS, AND IT'S CURRENTLY $385 A YEAR.
AND AGAIN, THE REVIEW JUST POINTED OUT IT'S AN EQUITABLE, INEFFICIENT AND UNSUSTAINABLE.
AND THEN JUMPING INTO OTHER TRANSPORTATION IMPLICATIONS.
WE DO HAVE A THREE TIERED BUS SYSTEM THAT LACKS FLEXIBILITY, AND I JUST WANT TO CLARIFY THAT IT'S NOT THAT IT'S NOT EFFICIENT, IT'S JUST VERY STRUCTURED. SO WE DO NOT HAVE ANY WIGGLE ROOM WITHIN THAT THREE TIERED SYSTEM, WHICH IS WHEN MR. HILL MENTIONS THE CHARTER BUS.
WE DO HAVE CHALLENGES AS FAR AS HIRING BUS DRIVERS AND BUS ASSISTANTS.
AND AGAIN, THE BIGGEST, THE BIGGEST ONE IS THE UNPREDICTABLE PROGRAMING NEEDS.
OUR GROWING BILINGUAL POPULATION PRE K AND OUR SPECIAL ACADEMIC PROGRAMS ARE DIFFICULT SUPPORT.
SO EVERY OPPORTUNITY WE CAN FIND EFFICIENCIES IS GOING TO BE VITAL AS WE CONTINUE TO EXPAND THOSE PROGRAMS. JUST TO KIND OF RECAP THE DISTRICT NEEDS, ADDITIONAL ROUTES ARE NEEDED.
I THINK THEY'RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO GROW AND EXPAND.
WE HAVE THE PROGRAMS COMING FOR THE WILDCAT COLLEGIATE ACADEMY THAT'S GOING TO REQUIRE NEW ROUTES.
SO WE NEED TO FIND EFFICIENCIES FOR THAT.
BUT THAT'S UNDER TWO MILES OR OTHER HAZARDOUS AREAS WHICH WILL BE LET OUT HERE SHORTLY.
SO OBVIOUSLY, YOU KNOW, WE WANT TO SET DISTRICT GOALS, DISTRICT PLANS OF WORK.
WHAT DO WE THINK IS ACHIEVABLE WITH TRANSPORTATION.
SO RECOMMENDATIONS DISTRICT RECOMMENDATIONS FOR 24-25.
OBVIOUSLY MARK TALKED ABOUT VACANCIES THAT WE HAVE.
I WILL SAY I MEAN, I'M ON MY THIRD YEAR.
I THINK WE'VE STRUGGLED EVERY YEAR, AND I'M PRETTY SURE WE WERE DOING THAT BEFORE EVEN THEN.
WE NEED TO LOOK TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE PAYING.
WE NEED TO KNOW WHAT OUR MARKET RATE IS BECAUSE IT IS EVER CHANGING WITH TRANSPORTATION.
SO WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO KEEP UP WITH WHAT THAT IS AND TRY TO STAY WITHIN THAT PEER GROUP.
WE KNOW THAT WE HAVE A NEW, WILDCAT COLLEGIATE ACADEMY THAT'S COMING ON.
WE'RE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.
WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE CAN TRANSPORT STUDENTS SAFELY TO AND FROM THAT ACADEMY.
AND SO THAT IS A GOAL FOR US THIS NEXT YEAR.
SO WHAT WE DID IS WE WENT BACK AND WE, THROUGH INFLATION, LOOKED TO SEE WHAT 385 WOULD DO.
AND WE ACTUALLY EXTRAPOLATED THAT OVER THAT TEN YEAR PERIOD.
AND SO THAT WOULD BE ABOUT $500 PER YEAR FOR THAT SERVICE.
[01:45:04]
AND SO WE WOULD RECOMMEND GOING UP TO THAT AMOUNT AND THEN DOING HALF OF THAT FOR A FREE AND REDUCED, STUDENT.AND SO THERE ARE CERTAIN ITEMS THAT WOULD FLOW INTO THAT.
ONCE AGAIN, JUST TRYING TO BE AS LEAST DISRUPTIVE TO FAMILIES AS WE CAN.
BUT AT A MINIMUM FOR 25, 2026, WE WOULD DEFINITELY LOOK AT SCALING THAT BACK TO WHAT THE ORIGINAL INTENTION WAS, AND THAT IS TO DO IT WHENEVER IT'S FEASIBLE, WHENEVER THERE'S ADDITIONAL CAPACITY ON THOSE ROUTES WHERE WE ARE ABLE TO DO THAT, WE CAN STILL CONTINUE TO LOOK AT DOING THAT.
SO THAT WOULD BE A GOAL FOR 25-26.
AND SO ONE OF THE WAYS TO DO THAT IS BY LOOKING AT STUDENTS THAT LIVE WITHIN A TWO MILE WALK ZONE, EVEN IF THEY'RE THERE ON A NON BILINGUAL CAMPUS, WE WOULD HAVE WE WOULD HAVE THEIR TRANSPORTATION.
THEY WOULD HAVE TO BE TRANSPORTED TO THEIR HOME CAMPUS.
THEN WE WOULD ACTUALLY HAVE NEIGHBORHOOD AND IN APARTMENT COMPLEXES, PICK UPS WHERE WE WOULD PICK THOSE STUDENTS UP AND TRANSPORT THEM TO THEIR CAMPUS TO RECEIVE SERVICES. AND THAT WOULD BE A GO FOR 25-26.
FINALLY TALKING ABOUT HAZARDOUS BUS ROUTES.
AND I COULD TALK ABOUT THIS FOR A WHILE.
I MEAN, IF YOU'VE DRIVEN THE STREETS OF PLANO, YOU KNOW, THERE'S A LITTLE CONSTRUCTION GOING ON, RIGHT? AND SO WHICH IS GREAT.
I MEAN, I'M EXCITED ABOUT THAT FOR THE LONG TERM EFFECTS OF THAT.
BUT ONE, WE NEED TO DO SOME WORK WITH OUR HAZARDOUS ROADWAYS.
SO I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT TO LOOK AT, YOU KNOW, WHAT IS DESIGNATED AS A HAZARDOUS ROADWAYS.
THOSE WOULD ALL BE CONSIDERED HAZARDOUS.
THERE'S AREAS WHERE THE STUDENTS WOULD HAVE TO CROSS A 4 OR 6 LANE ARTERIAL ROADWAY, WITH THAT HAS A MEDIUM, UNLESS THERE'S A CROSSWALK AVAILABLE OR UNLESS THERE'S A PEDESTRIAN ACTIVATED CROSSWALK OR TRAFFIC SIGNAL AVAILABLE, AND THEN UPDATE AND BRING ROUTES ON AN ANNUAL BASIS FOR APPROVAL OF THE BOARD.
SO THAT WOULD BE A GOAL OF OURS AS WELL.
WE ARE RECEIVING OUR NEW BUSSES THAT HAVE BEEN ORDERED.
BUT YES, WE HAVE RECEIVED 44, 33 GENERAL ED AND 11 SPECIAL NEEDS.
WE'RE LOOKING AT 63 THIS YEAR.
HOPEFULLY BY THE END OF THIS YEAR.
SO WE CAN KIND OF SEE WHERE WE'RE GOING AND WHAT'S BEHIND US AND WHAT'S AROUND US ON THE OUTSIDE.
AND LASTLY, THE FLEET UPDATE REGARDING ELECTRIC BUSSES.
WE ARE EXPLORING ELECTRIC BUSSES AND WE ARE WORKING WITH OUR VENDORS TO, LOOK THROUGH, OBTAINING GRANTS THAT WOULD HELP US WITH THE COST.
YOU SEE THE EPA AND THE TEXASVEMP, DEPENDING ON WHAT WE COULD POTENTIALLY GET.
NOT EVERYTHING IS 100%, BUT IT WOULD CERTAINLY HELP US IN THE $400,000 PER BUS.
SO AND WE'RE LOOKING AT DOING SIX OF THOSE BUSSES IF WE GET GRANTED.
I HAVE TWO. THAT'S MY NUMBER FOR THE NIGHT.
TWO QUESTIONS. ON THE FIRST QUESTION, YOU DID A BOND UPDATE ON THE PHYSICAL BUSSES.
[01:50:01]
BUT DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE TIMELINE IS FOR THE, LIKE, TRANSPORTATION FACILITY IN THE FUEL POINT? THAT WAS ALSO LIKE THAT WAS ALSO PART OF THE THE PROPOSITION B ON THE BOND? YES. WE'RE CURRENTLY WORKING.WE'RE GOING THROUGH REGULAR TESTS OF THE FUEL TANKS, ETC..
SO IT'S NOT IMPENDING THE OPERATION.
THANKS. AND THE SECOND QUESTION IS A MONEY QUESTION.
SO THIS MAY BE A JOHNNY QUESTION, BUT ON THE FAIR BUSSING, IF YOU WANT TO GO BACK TO THAT SLIDE ON THE 25, 26 RECOMMENDATIONS, I THINK IT WAS, WHERE YOU'RE INCREASING FOR.
YES. OH 24-25 RECOMMENDATIONS.
SO THIS STRUCK ME THAT THIS IS SORT OF DISPROPORTIONATE.
AND I WAS CURIOUS, IF YOU KNOW WHAT PERCENTAGE OF OUR FAIR BUSSING STUDENTS ARE ON FREE AND REDUCED, BECAUSE WHETHER YOU CUT IT BY JUST TOTAL DOLLAR AMOUNT OR YOU CUT IT BY PERCENTAGE, THE WAY THAT YOU ALL CALCULATED THIS, THIS IS A DISPROPORTIONATE INCREASE FOR OUR STUDENTS THAT ARE ON FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH.
AND SO I WAS, CURIOUS SORT OF THE PROPORTION OF PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS THAT ARE ON FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH THAT ARE CURRENTLY USING FAIR BUSSING, AND WHETHER OR NOT YOU HAD ANY THOUGHTS ABOUT HAVING SUCH A DISPROPORTIONATE INCREASE ON THE STUDENTS.
I DO NOT KNOW OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD WHAT THAT NUMBER IS.
BUT I CAN'T NOT TELL YOU RIGHT NOW IF THAT CARRIES OVER TO TRANSPORTATION.
I CAN DEFINITELY FIND THAT OUT FOR YOU THOUGH.
BUT I WANT TO ADD THAT'S FOR TRANSPORTATION FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE GOING TO.
WELL. THE FAIR, BUSSING FOR STUDENTS THAT LIVE WITHIN TWO MILES OF THEIR CAMPUS.
YES, MA'AM. NOT ALL FREE REDUCED.
I MEAN, I WOULD IMAGINE MOST OF OUR STUDENTS ARE.
TONY, WHAT'S THE IMPLICATION OF A HAZARDOUS BUS ROUTE? I NOTICED THAT YOU IT WAS SOMETHING SPECIFIC THERE.
LIKE WHAT? DO WE DO ANYTHING DIFFERENT FOR THOSE ROUTES? LIKE WHAT'S THE IMPLICATION? SO, I MEAN, AND TELL ME IF I'M MISSING SOMETHING, MARK.
IF IT'S DEEMED TO BE HAZARDOUS BY ONE OF THE CRITERIA THAT YOU SAW.
SO THAT'S WHY EVERYONE DOESN'T PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION UNLESS IT'S HAZARDOUS UNDER TWO MILES.
WE WEREN'T GETTING REIMBURSED FOR ANY OF OUR MILES.
WE KEPT UP WITH IT ANYWAY BECAUSE WE'RE REQUIRED TO FILL OUT THE REPORTS.
I WILL SAY THAT, IF YOU WANT TO LOOK UP WHERE WE NEED TO REALLY WORK HARD WAS WITH HAZARDOUS ROADWAYS, BECAUSE I DO THINK THAT WE PROBABLY WOULD GAIN SOME EFFICIENCIES BY THAT. BUT NEVERTHELESS, WE NEED TO BE DOING IT ANYWAY.
AND SO THAT WILL ACTUALLY OPEN UP SOME ROUTES TO BE ELIGIBLE.
AND IT WILL PROBABLY TAKE IT PROBABLY WILL TAKE AWAY SOME OTHERS.
BECAUSE IT IS GOING TO BE A PRETTY BIG CHANGE.
DISCUSSION. ONCE AGAIN, JUST TRYING TO BE AS THE THE LEAST DISRUPTIVE AS WE CAN FOR OUR FAMILIES.
MY QUESTION IS, DO WE HAVE AN UNDERSTANDING OF SCOPE? WHAT IS THE EARLIEST TIME THAT A BUS LEAVES THE BARN IN THE MORNING, AND THEN WHAT TIME DO THEY COME BACK? WHAT'S THE LAST BUS THAT COMES BACK IN THE MORNING? AND THEN WHAT'S THAT GAP?
[01:55:01]
AND I'M THINKING ABOUT THIS IN TERMS OF CHARTER BUSSES BECAUSE THEN WHAT'S THE GAP TO WHERE THEY START THE PROCESS AGAIN.SO WHAT'S THE EARLIEST TIME IT GOES OFF IN THE AFTERNOON.
AND WHEN DOES THE LAST BUS USUALLY COME BACK? THE WINDOW FOR CHARTER IS TYPICALLY IF YOU CAN PLAN YOUR TRIP BETWEEN 9:15.
AND I THINK IT'S TWO, I THINK IT'S WANT TO SAY 1:30 OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.
OKAY. THEN IT'LL BE SERVICED BY A YELLOW BUS.
IF IT FALLS OUTSIDE OF THAT FRAME, IT'S IMPOSSIBLE FOR US TO GET THERE AND GET BACK.
AND THEN WHAT'S THE EARLIEST THAT THE BUS GOES OUT? I MEAN, JUST SO THAT YOU HAD AN UNDERSTANDING BECAUSE YOU HAVE 5:30 LAST BUS COMES BACK TO THE BARN AT 9:30.
BUSSES LEAVE AS SOON AS 1:00 IN THE AFTERNOON AND COME BACK AS LATE AS 6:00.
THANKS. NOW, I MEAN, EVERYBODY I THINK UNDERSTANDS THE THREE TIERED THAT I WILL SAY, I DON'T KNOW THAT I'VE EVER SEEN A FOUR TIERED, BUT AS FAR AS BEING EFFICIENT WITH JUST TRANSPORTING TO AND FROM SCHOOL, A THREE TIERED IS ABOUT AS EFFICIENT AS YOU CAN GET.
IT ALSO HELPS US ACTUALLY HIRE DRIVERS BECAUSE IT MEANS THAT THEY'RE BUSY FOR SIX.
IF YOU GO TO A LOT OF DISTRICTS AND THEY'RE ONLY DOING ONE TIER, THEN IT'S HARD TO GET BUS DRIVERS IN A COMPETITIVE PLACE LIKE PLANO UNLESS YOU CAN GUARANTEE THEM AT LEAST SIX HOURS A DAY. OH, YOU GO AHEAD.
AND SO I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR INCLUDING THAT PIECE ABOUT ELECTRIC BUSSES, BECAUSE I KNOW I ASKED YOU SPECIFICALLY ABOUT THAT, BUT AND I'M SO EXCITED ABOUT THAT, THAT'S SO COOL.
DO WE HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT HOW LONG THE GRANT PROCESS IS GOING TO TAKE? SOME OF THEM DON'T EVEN BEGIN TO BE AWARDED BETWEEN 25 AND 26 BECAUSE THE WINDOW IS OPEN.
BUT I CAN FOLLOW UP AND GIVE YOU SPECIFIC DATES IF YOU'D LIKE, BUT WE'VE GOT SOME TIME.
I WILL SAY THAT WE HAVE WORKED WITH THE CONSULTANT THAT ACTUALLY BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN THIS PROCESS.
WE'RE HOPING THAT WILL HELP US.
YEAH. AND SO, ANYWAY, WE HAVEN'T JUST ATTACKED IT ON OUR OWN.
WE'VE ACTUALLY ASKED AND FOR FREE, BASICALLY IT'S THEY PROVIDED OBVIOUSLY.
SO WE'RE HOPING THAT WE CAN BE SUCCESSFUL.
FOR US, IT'S JUST ABOUT PILOTING THAT PROGRAM.
LOOK AT THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES.
SO YOU'RE THINKING LIKE, NOT ANY SOONER THAN 27.
YEAH, I MEAN, IT COULD BE SOONER, BUT I THINK THAT'S REALISTIC.
I WILL TAG ON AND THE DISCUSSIONS WE'VE HAD WITH FUEL BECAUSE WE ARE LOOKING AT.
WHAT CAN WE PROACTIVELY PREPARE FOR SO WE DON'T HAVE TO DO IT TWICE.
AND SO WE'VE HAD THOSE DISCUSSIONS AS WELL, WHICH I THINK IS GOING TO PAY OFF FOR US.
ARE WE PLANNING FOR ROUTES TO AND FROM THE CTE CENTER LIKE STARTING IN 26-27? WELL, SO THERE'S A LOT THAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN BETWEEN NOW AND THE END.
OH I KNOW, BUT IT JUST LEFT IT OFF RIGHT BEFORE THEN.
SO WE'LL INCORPORATE THE CTE INTO THAT SAME ROUTING SYSTEM.
BUT I WOULD ANTICIPATE BECAUSE OF LONG RANGE FACILITY PLANNING AND ALL OF THESE OTHER OTHER, ITEMS THAT WE'RE TRYING TO ADDRESS, THAT THERE'LL BE LOTS OF CHANGES BETWEEN NOW AND THEN, BUT DEFINITELY OUR GOAL WOULD BE TO TRANSPORT AND RUN THOSE SHUTTLES TO AND FROM THE CTE CENTER.
AND ONE OF THE BENEFITS OF THE ACADEMY IS THAT THEIR BUILD TIMES ARE DIFFERENT.
SO THEY ALLOW US FLEXIBILITY TO GET THOSE STUDENTS THERE WITHIN OUR THREE TIERED.
SO ALL THOSE THINGS WILL BE CONSIDERED AS WE PLAN AHEAD.
SO BACK ON THE EV QUESTION, I KNOW WHEN YOU BUY CERTAIN EV AUTOMOBILES OR SUVS, YOU GET A CREDIT BACK FROM THE GOVERNMENT.
WILL THEY OFFER SOMETHING LIKE THAT FOR SCHOOL BUSSES, I THINK, OR IS THAT PART OF THE GRANT? I THINK THAT'S WHAT I WAS GOING AHEAD, IS THAT I THINK THE GRANT IS GOING TO BE SUBSIDIZING SO MUCH OF THE FEE I CAN.
I DON'T KNOW THIS FOR A FACT, BUT I WOULD THINK THAT'S GOING TO HELP.
OKAY. AND THEN YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT DIGGING UP THE OLD INFRASTRUCTURE.
YEAH, THE TANKS AND STORAGE TANKS.
AND SO INSTEAD OF WANTING TO DIG IT UP TWICE, YOU MEAN YOU WANT TO ADD SOME ELECTRIC CHARGING IN THERE? DEPENDING ON THESE DISCUSSIONS WE'RE HAVING OF WHERE, YOU KNOW, DO WE REPLACE WHERE WE ARE OR DO WE CREATE NEW WHEN WE'RE DIGGING UP, WHETHER OLD OR DIGGING THE NEW, WHAT CAN WE PROACTIVELY PUT IN PLACE SO WE'RE NOT GOING BACK AGAIN? GOING I WISH I WOULD HAVE YEAH.
WE CAN LOOK AT THE GRANT AND LOOK WHAT WE'RE ALLOWED TO DO AND HOPEFULLY BE PREPARED.
[02:00:03]
WELL, I'M CURIOUS, HAS ANYONE TALKED TO YOU ABOUT MAYBE YOU ARE.MAYBE YOU DON'T HAVE THIS INFORMATION YET, BUT HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO CHARGE A BUS TO ITS FULL CHARGE THE NEXT DAY? I MEAN, YEAH, QUICKER THAN YOU THINK BECAUSE THESE ARE SPECIALIZED CHARGING UNITS AND THEY'RE BUILT FOR LARGER VEHICLES.
OKAY. SO THEY'RE LIKE A TESLA SUPERCHARGER IN A WAY A SUPER DUPER CHARGER.
OKAY. SO THEN MY LAST QUESTION IS ARE THEY FULL SELF-DRIVING? NOT YET. I'M JUST KIDDING.
I KNOW THAT I'M NOT GOING TO I DON'T KNOW I DON'T FEEL GOOD ABOUT THAT.
ALL RIGHT. DID ANYBODY ELSE I JUMPED IN.
WELL, GENTLEMEN, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING HERE AND, TAKING ALL OF OUR QUESTIONS.
THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR SUPPORT.

DR. FREEMAN, WILL YOU PLEASE CALL OUR FIRST SPEAKER TO THE PODIUM? YES. OUR FIRST SPEAKER THIS EVENING IS KAILYN MCGARRY, PLANO ISD STUDENT TOPIC AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDIES.
OUR NEXT SPEAKER IS CAITLIN PALMER, PLANO ISD STAFF MEMBER.
COME UP HERE AND THEN YOU WILL HAVE THREE MINUTES.
AND OUR BOARD SECRETARY WILL HELP YOU WITH THE TIME.
AND DO YOU WANT A ONE MINUTE WARNING? ARE YOU GOOD WITH GOING? YEAH. GOOD. OKAY. ALL RIGHT.
PRESIDENT HUMPHREY AND DOCTOR WILLIAMS. I'M A FIRST YEAR SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER.
I'M NOT ONLY AN EDUCATOR FOR PLANO ISD, BUT I'M ALSO A FORMER GRADUATE.
I WAS A SKAG STAR, RICE RAVEN, JASPER JAGUAR, AND PLANO WILDCAT.
I ACCEPT. WHEN I ACCEPTED THE POSITION AT MY SCHOOL, I WAS DEEPLY HONORED AND PRIVILEGED.
WHEN SCHOOL IS UNSAFE, LEARNING DOES NOT TAKE PLACE.
THE FIRST INCIDENT I OVERHEARD WAS A STUDENT BAWLING IN THE CLASSROOM NEXT DOOR.
ANOTHER COLLEAGUE COULD HEAR THE STUDENT CRYING IN HER CLASSROOM AS WELL.
THAT IS WHEN I WAS INFORMED BY THE STUDENT THAT HER CHEEKS WERE SQUEEZED.
SECONDLY, I WITNESSED A STUDENT PULLED OFF A SHELF, CAUSING A PHYSICAL MARK.
ANOTHER DAY, A STUDENT WAS FORCEFULLY PULLED INTO THE CLASSROOM FROM THE HALLWAY.
THIS STUDENT REPORTED THIS TO ME.
AFTER CALMING DOWN FROM CRYING DESPITE OVERWHELMING EVIDENCE IT HAS BEEN ENOUGH.
IT HAS NOT BEEN ENOUGH FOR THE DISTRICT TO ACT.
SINCE SPEAKING UP, I HAVE BEEN INTIMIDATED AND HAVE BEEN PERSONALLY THREATENED.
WHILE THIS IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE, THESE STUDENTS SAFETY IS OF THE MOST IMPORTANCE.
I AM THE ADULT IN THIS SITUATION.
I CAN SPEAK UP AND PROTECT MYSELF FOR VARIOUS REASONS THESE STUDENTS CANNOT.
IT IS DISHEARTENING TO HAVE TO CONTINUE TO FIGHT FOR OUR STUDENTS BASIC NEEDS.
[02:10:08]
THANK YOU FOR LISTENING AND DILIGENTLY ACTING TO MAKE PLANO ISD AN AMAZING SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR BOTH STUDENTS AND STAFF.THANK YOU. THE NEXT SPEAKER IS [INAUDIBLE] PLANO ISD.
LAST SPEAKER IS MICHAEL CONWAY, PLANO ISD NONRESIDENT TOPIC BOOKS.
MICHAEL, DO YOU WANT A ONE MINUTE OR DO YOU WANT TO GO STRAIGHT THROUGH? OH, I'M GOOD, THANK YOU THOUGH.
IF I CAN GET MY PHONE TO WORK.
I LOVE TECHNOLOGY, SO BOOKS ARE STILL AVAILABLE AND NEED TO BE REMOVED OR RATED FOR SPECIFIC AGE GROUP IF DEEMED ACADEMIC.
TO GIVE YOU PERSPECTIVE, IT CAN AND OFTEN DOES WARP THE MINDS OF CHILDREN QUESTIONING THEIR GENDER.
IT OFTEN TURNS DEPRESSION AND TURNS, IN TURN GOES TO ATTEMPTS AT SUICIDE.
THOSE CHANGING GENDER ARE LOOKING TO SHOW AN ATTEMPTED SUICIDE RATE AT 40% FRIEND OF MINE THEN DOUBTED THAT, AND I POINTED OUT TO HIM POINT BLANK, LOOK, IT'S NOT HARD TO FIND, BULLYING AT MIDDLE AND ELEMENTARY.
AND THE BULLY WAS GIVEN AN AWARD ALSO NOTED AT A NEARBY SCHOOL DISTRICT THAT A, PARENT DIDN'T FIND OUT ABOUT THE BULLYING UNTIL THEY WERE AT THE ER, BECAUSE THE KID THREW UP AT HOME ON AN X RAY THEY FOUND OUT HE HAD A CONCUSSION.
I MEAN, I YOU KNOW, THERE WAS I GREW UP IN THE PLANO SCHOOLS AND BULLYING.
I MEAN IT WAS KEPT TO A DULL ROAR.
THERE WAS NORMAL TEASING. THERE WERE NORMAL HAZING.
BUT NOTHING TO WHERE WITH THIS.
THIS WHAT SHE WAS TALKING ABOUT? GETTING TO THAT ACCESS.
WE NEED TO TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY, PRINCIPLES ARE HIDING IT.
WE NEED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT IT'S HAPPENING, WE CAN ACKNOWLEDGE OTHER THINGS ARE HAPPENING.
BUT FOR SOME REASON, WE'RE NOT ACKNOWLEDGING BULLYING AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY? IF IT WAS YOUR CHILD, YOU'D SAY YOU'D SPEAK UP.
AND ALSO TO CONSIDER, RECONSIDER, RAISE YOUR HAND.
AS POINTED OUT LAST MONTH, THE RETURN ON INVESTMENT ISN'T THERE.
I CAN APPRECIATE SOME TESTING, AND I HAD SOME PRIOR TESTING PRIOR TO GRADUATION.
I MEAN, LET'S PLEASE FOCUS ON TEACHING.
THERE'S SOME TESTING NEEDED, BUT NOT TO THE EXTENT THAT'S GOING ON.
PLEASE PROTECT THESE CHILDREN.
AND, IF THERE IS NO, WE'RE GOING TO ADJOURN.
ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 13TH, 2024.
