MY NAME IS KENNEDY ROBERTSON, AND WE HAVE BEEN TRAINING TO WORK IN ONE ON ONE SUPERVISED SETTING WITH SIXTH GRADE [INAUDIBLE] ONCE A WEEK DURING ADVISORY.

AND WE LOVE BEING A PAL AT ROBINSON MIDDLE SCHOOL.

ON BEHALF OF MYSELF AND THE PALS, WE THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE US PARTICIPATE IN TODAY'S MEETING.

WELL, THANK YOU GUYS FOR BEING HERE.

AND LET ME OPEN THIS UP TO THE BOARD.

DOES ANYBODY HAVE COMMENTS? I DO. I HAVE COMMENTS.

I'M SO EXCITED. AND I SAY THIS.

I'M SURE THE REST OF THE BOARD FEELS THE SAME WAY.

THIS IS THE BEST PART OF OUR MEETINGS WHEN WE GET TO SEE STUDENTS THAT WE SERVE.

AND I WANT TO SAY, YOU KNOW, THERE'S THIS THING CALLED A PORTRAIT OF A GRADUATE, AND WE'VE WORKED ON THAT FOR MONTHS.

AND I WANT TO SAY THAT WHAT YOU'RE DOING EXEMPLIFIES SO MANY OF THOSE PIECES OF THAT PORTRAIT OF A GRADUATE.

AND I WANT YOU TO GO BACK TONIGHT AND LOOK THAT UP ON OUR WEBSITE, BECAUSE I WANT YOU TO HAVE THAT VISION OF YOURSELF AS WELL.

BUT, YOU KNOW, YOU SHOW EMPATHY, YOU SHOW COMPASSION.

YOU ARE COMMUNICATING, LEARNING TO COMMUNICATE REALLY WELL WITH A LOT OF PEOPLE.

RIGHT. SO THOSE ARE SOME OF THE KEY FACTORS OF THIS PORTRAIT OF A GRADUATE.

AND I WANT Y'ALL TO THAT'S YOUR HOMEWORK FOR TONIGHT.

LOOK AT THAT ON OUR WEBSITE.

IT'S NOT THAT HARD.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING HERE.

I WANT TO SAY, YOU GUYS, I LOVE PALS AND MY SON HAD A PAL FRIEND.

SO WHAT YOU'RE DOING IS AMAZING WORK FOR OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

I'M NOT GOING TO GIVE YOU HOMEWORK [LAUGHTER] BUT I AM GOING TO SAY THAT BOTH OF MY CHILDREN WERE BLESSED TO BE IN PALS IN HIGH SCHOOL AND SENIOR HIGH.

SO YOU'RE REALLY GETTING A LEG UP, BEING ABLE TO HAVE THIS EXPERIENCE AS EARLY AS MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HOW GREAT THAT CAN BE.

BUT FOR MY DAUGHTER, IT'S WHERE SHE FOUND HER PEOPLE.

AND SO EVEN THOUGH YOU'RE OUT THERE GIVING TO OTHERS AND DOING THOSE THINGS, YOU'RE WITH OTHER GIVERS.

AND I HOPE THAT THROUGH THIS EXPERIENCE YOU FOUND FRIENDS AND PEOPLE WHO ARE GOING TO BE ABLE TO WALK WITH YOU FROM NOW THROUGH ROBINSON ONTO SENIOR HIGH AND THEN ONTO HIGH SCHOOL AND SENIOR HIGH.

SO THANK YOU FOR STEPPING UP TO DO THIS AND YOU WILL REAP THE BENEFITS OF THIS EXPERIENCE WELL INTO YOUR LIFE.

I HAVE TO SAY SOMETHING.

MY DAUGHTER IS WAS ALSO IN YOUR PROGRAM, NOT AS AN OLDER KID, BUT AS A YOUNGER ONE IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

AND SHE HAD TROUBLE MAKING LIKE KEEPING LIKE NO, IT'S LIKE, YOU KNOW, WHEN YOU'RE A THIRD GRADER, YOUR FRIEND LEFT YOU, YOU JUST CAN'T GET OVER IT.

AND SHE JUST, YOU KNOW, KEEPS IT'S VERY, VERY SAD AND STUFF.

SO SHE GOT A PAL.

[LAUGHTER] AND THEY STAYED FRIENDS AND THE PAL HELPED HER.

AND NOW THE PALS IS A DENTIST AND SHE'S INSPIRED TO BE IN MEDICAL SCHOOL.

YOU KNOW, YOU GUYS WILL HAVE A BIG IMPACT ON THE LITTLE KIDS.

JUST BELIEVE WHAT YOU ARE DOING IS SHOWING TREMENDOUS EMPATHY TOWARDS PEOPLE.

AND WE NEED MORE OF THAT.

THANK YOU. YES.

HOLD ON A SECOND. SO MY TWO YOUNGEST KIDS WERE IN PALS ALL THE WAY FROM FRANKFORD, ALL THE WAY UP TO WEST.

AND NOW UNIVERSITIES ARE STARTING TO HAVE A PALS LIKE STRUCTURE, PALS LIKE SYSTEM WHERE MY DAUGHTER ACTUALLY DID THAT AT A&M FOR TWO YEARS.

AND SO YOU CAN CONTINUE DOING THIS, BUT IT IS ONE OF THE BEST THINGS THAT WE DO IN PISD.

AND I'M REALLY PROUD OF YOU GUYS, AND I'M HAPPY THAT YOU ALL ARE DOING THIS.

AND I WOULD SUGGEST I ENCOURAGE YOU TO KEEP DOING IT.

I CAN SEE HOW MY TWO YOUNG KIDS WHO WERE ONE DAY LIKE YOU, ALL HAVE GROWN UP TO BECOME THE PEOPLE THEY ARE.

AND IT'S A GREAT GREAT PROGRAM.

AND COOL JORDAN'S TO YOU, TOO [INAUDIBLE] [LAUGHTER].

YES. SO I THINK DR.

WILLIAMS WANTED TO SAY SOMETHING.

WELL, JUST TWO THINGS.

WHEN WE THINK ABOUT OR I OFTEN GET ASKED LIKE, WHAT IS LEADERSHIP MEAN TO YOU? AND FOR ME, IT'S ONE, IT'S SERVICE.

AND THAT'S WHAT ALL OF YOU ARE ARE DOING RIGHT NOW.

BEING A PART OF PALS, YOU'RE PROVIDING A SERVICE.

AND THE OTHER THING ABOUT LEADERSHIP IS BEING A DIFFERENCE MAKER AND YOU'RE MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF YOUR PEERS AND IN YOUR SCHOOL.

AND I THINK YOU'VE HEARD THE IMPACT THAT THIS TYPE OF LEADERSHIP HAS HAD IN MANY, MANY LIVES.

SO KEEP DOING WHAT YOU'RE DOING.

WE'RE SO PROUD OF YOU AND THANK YOU FOR LEADING THIS GROUP.

[00:10:04]

CAN I ASK A TECHNICAL QUESTION? SO HOW DO YOU WRITE TO YOUR PAL NOW? EMAIL OR TEXT OR SOCIAL MEDIA? [LAUGHTER] DO YOU, YOU KNOW MAKE AN ENVELOPE AND PUT YOUR LETTERS IN IT OR? DO ONE OF YOU [INAUDIBLE]? SO THE WAY THAT WE'RE DOING IT RIGHT NOW IS WE'RE GOING THROUGH GOOGLE SLIDES, WE'RE PUTTING TO OUR PEN PAL THAT IS FOURTH GRADERS RIGHT NOW.

AND WE LIKE PICK A TOPIC THAT WE'RE ALL GOING TO WRITE ABOUT.

WE WRITE WHAT WE WANT TO SAY AND WE PUT FROM OUR NAMES AND WE WILL SHARE IT TO OUR TEACHER THROUGH GOOGLE CLASSROOM AND SHE WILL GIVE IT TO THEIR TEACHER, WHICH WILL THEN SEND IT TO THEM.

THANK YOU. THAT'S COOL.

THANK YOU ALL ONCE AGAIN FOR COMING.

LET'S GIVE THESE KIDS A ROUND OF APPLAUSE [APPLAUSE]. AND OUR STAFF MEMBER AS WELL.

THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT.

THANK YOU ALL.

OH, WE'RE GOING TO DO A GROUP PHOTO REAL QUICK.

THANK YOU ALL. [APPLAUSE] OKAY.

AS WE CONTINUE ALONG WITH OUR RECOGNITIONS, AS YOU CAN SEE BY THE SCROLLING PRESENTATION, WE HAVE MANY TALENTED STUDENTS WINNING AWARDS AT THE STATE AND NATIONAL LEVELS.

WE'RE PROUDLY CELEBRATING A HANDFUL OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS TONIGHT.

ON JANUARY 10TH, THE SOCIETY FOR SCIENCE AND THE PUBLIC ANNOUNCED THE 2023 TOP 300 SCHOLARS FOR THE 82ND REGENERON SCIENCE TALENT SEARCH.

SCHOLARS WERE SELECTED FROM OVER 1900 APPLICATIONS RECEIVED FROM 627 HIGH SCHOOLS ACROSS 48 STATES WASHINGTON DC, PUERTO RICO AND FOUR OTHER COUNTRIES. TWO PLANO ISD HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS WERE NAMED IN THE TOP 300.

CONGRATULATIONS TO BOTH PLANO EAST AND PLANO WEST SENIOR HIGHS FOR HAVING STUDENTS SELECTED FOR OUTSTANDING RECOGNITION.

THESE HONOREES WILL PARTICIPATE AND PERFORM AT THE ANNUAL STATE TMEA CLINIC, CONVENTION AND CONVENTION IN SAN ANTONIO LATER THIS WEEK.

CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES TO ALL OF THESE STUDENTS, THESE OUTSTANDING MUSICIANS, THEIR HIGH SCHOOL DIRECTORS, PRIVATE INSTRUCTORS, MIDDLE SCHOOL DIRECTORS, ELEMENTARY MUSIC TEACHERS, SUPPORTERS AND FAMILIES WHO HAVE HELPED THEM ACHIEVE THIS MOST PRESTIGIOUS RECOGNITION.

PLANO ISD HAS ANNOUNCED THE NOMINEES FOR THE 2022-23 TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INNOVATION IN STEM TEACHING AWARDS.

FOR 17 YEARS, PLANO ISD HAS BEEN HONORED TO WORK WITH TEXAS INSTRUMENTS AND THE PLANO ISD EDUCATION FOUNDATION TO RECOGNIZE OUR OUTSTANDING TEACHERS OF SECONDARY SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING AND MATH.

AND IF YOU'RE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THAT, WE CALL THAT STEM IN THE INDUSTRY.

THESE SELECTED TEACHERS MODEL EXCELLENCE IN THE STEM CLASSROOM, WHICH IS ESSENTIAL FOR ENSURING THAT OUR STUDENTS ARE EMPOWERED TO BE CRITICAL THINKERS, COLLABORATORS, PROBLEM SOLVERS AND ENGINEERS OF NEW IDEAS AND SOLUTIONS SO THAT THEY ARE READY FOR THE FUTURE.

BEST WISHES TO THESE NOMINEES AS THEY ADVANCE IN THE SELECTION PROCESS TO CHOOSE THE FINALIST AND WINNERS LATER THIS SPRING.

SO WE'D LIKE TO OFFER CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF THESE HIGH ACHIEVING STUDENTS AND STAFF MEMBERS FOR A JOB WELL DONE, AND LET'S GIVE THEM A ROUND OF APPLAUSE.

[APPLAUSE] OK.

WE HAVE A SPECIAL RECOGNITION THAT WE ARE GOING TO TURN OVER TO LISA WILSON, OUR DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING TO LEAD.

THANK YOU, PRESIDENT STOLLE, SUPERINTENDENT WILLIAMS, BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

WE ARE REALLY EXCITED TO SHARE A STAFF ACHIEVEMENT THIS EVENING, AND I'M GOING TO INVITE LAURA ZIMMER, OUR DIRECTOR OF COUNSELING SERVICES, TO THE PODIUM, AND SHE WILL TELL US ALL ABOUT IT. HELLO.

GOOD EVENING. THANK YOU FOR HAVING US.

I'M GOING TO START BY SAYING THIS IS NATIONAL SCHOOL COUNSELING WEEK THIS WEEK.

SO I'M REALLY EXCITED TO BRING SOME OF OUR EXCELLENT COUNSELORS FROM PLANO ISD TO YOU GUYS TODAY.

THE LONE STAR STATE SCHOOL COUNSELOR ASSOCIATION HAS CREATED AN AWARD SYSTEM THAT RECOGNIZES COMPREHENSIVE COUNSELING PROGRAMS IN THE STATE OF TEXAS.

[00:15:05]

THESE PROGRAMS ARE DATA DRIVEN DEVELOPMENT, DEVELOPMENTALLY APPROPRIATE, AND DELIVERED TO ALL STUDENTS WITH A GOAL OF IMPROVING STUDENT OUTCOMES, CLOSING ACHIEVEMENT AND OPPORTUNITY GAPS, AND PREPARING STUDENTS FOR POST-SECONDARY SUCCESS.

THESE AWARDS ALSO PREPARE SCHOOL COUNSELORS TO APPLY FOR NATIONAL RECOGNITION FOR THE ASCO RAMP AWARDS, WHICH IS A RECOGNIZED ASCO MODEL COUNSELING PROGRAM. AND THIS YEAR WE ARE VERY PROUD TO SAY THAT ONE OF OUR MIDDLE SCHOOLS WAS AWARDED THE BRONZE AWARD FOR THE 22-23 SCHOOL YEAR. SO PLEASE JOIN ME IN RECOGNIZING ROBINSON MIDDLE SCHOOL COUNSELING TEAM GRANT WILSON, SHERRI DEISINGER AND KELLY TISDALE.

COME ON DOWN. [APPLAUSE]. NO.

DAVID, DO YOU STILL HAVE A SCRIPT? WELL, I PICKED A BAD TIME TO NIGHT TO BUTCHER ROBINSON'S NAME, DIDN'T I? ALL RIGHT, SO AS VICE PRESIDENT NANCY HUMPHREY HAS GONE DOWN, SHE'S GOING TO PRESENT CERTIFICATES TO EACH OF THESE STAFF MEMBERS.

AND I INVITE THE BOARD TO MAKE ANY CONGRATULATORY COMMENTS THAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO.

SO I'LL START. I ACTUALLY ATTENDED OUR VISIONING SESSION ON SATURDAY.

WE'RE DOING THESE VISIONING SESSIONS AND ASKING FOR COMMUNITY FEEDBACK.

AND MR. WILSON WAS AT MY TABLE.

RIGHT. AND I HAD A TABLE THAT WAS A MIXTURE OF PARENTS AND THEN ALSO STAFF WHO HAD ELEMENTARY STUDENTS IN THE DISTRICT.

AND I LEFT THAT VISIONING SESSION A, UNDERSTANDING HOW PASSIONATE YOU ARE FOR THE WORK THAT YOU DO.

AND YOU SPOKE SO HIGHLY OF YOUR TEAM AT ROBINSON, NOT ONLY THE REST OF YOUR COUNSELING TEAM, BUT YOU TALKED ABOUT HOW YOU FELT LIKE THE TEACHERS WERE REALLY BOUGHT IN ON THE CAMPUS TO Y'ALL'S MISSION AND HELPING YOU WITH YOUR MISSION AND JUST UNDERSTANDING HOW KNOWLEDGEABLE YOU ARE AND PASSIONATE FOR YOUR CAMPUS AND YOUR TEAM WAS JUST ABSOLUTELY, JUST VERY IMPRESSIVE TO ME.

AND THAT GOES FOR ALL OF YOU BECAUSE HE BRAGGED ON YOU GUYS AND YOUR WHOLE CAMPUS.

[LAUGHTER] BUT I WOULD JUST SAY TWO THINGS.

ONE, THAT AS WE'RE DOING THE REST OF THESE VISIONING SESSIONS, I WOULD INVITE STAFF TO COME BECAUSE I THINK HAVING THE MIX OF PARENT AND STAFF INPUT WAS REALLY, REALLY HELPFUL.

AND OF COURSE, YOU'RE A PARENT IN THE DISTRICT TOO, SO YOU KIND OF ARE ON BOTH SIDES.

BUT KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND CONGRATULATIONS, GUYS.

YOU KNOW, I WANT TO SAY SOMETHING BECAUSE YESTERDAY JOHNNY HILL AND I WERE DOWN IN AUSTIN AND WE ATTENDED THE SENATE FINANCE COMMITTEE HEARING, AND THEY TALKED ABOUT SENATE BILL ONE, WHICH IS THE FUNDING FOR PUBLIC EDUCATION INCLUDES THAT.

AND THERE WAS A LOT OF TESTIMONY THAT WAS HEARD ABOUT THE NEED FOR COUNSELING AND MENTAL WELLNESS OF OUR KIDS AND ALL OF THE PLACE WE HAVE FOUND OURSELVES IN POST COVID.

AND SO I THINK THAT THERE'S GOING TO BE I'M HOPEFUL THAT THERE'S GOING TO BE ADDITIONAL FUNDING FOR OUR PROGRAMS TO BE ABLE TO HELP DELIVER THAT.

BUT WHAT YOU DO ON YOUR CAMPUS AND ALL OTHER COUNSELORS, WHAT YOU ALL DO IS SO IMPORTANT FOR OUR STUDENTS.

AND IT IS PART OF RAISING STUDENT OUTCOMES BECAUSE UNLESS YOU'RE, YOU KNOW, FEELING OKAY, YOU KNOW, YOU'RE NOT GOING TO LEARN AS WELL AS IF YOU ARE FEELING OKAY.

SO THANK YOU FOR THE WORK YOU'RE DOING.

I'M JUST GOING TO I'M GOING TO ACTUALLY HEARKEN BACK TO A FORMER COLLEAGUE OF OURS, MISSY BENDER, TALKED OFTEN ABOUT THE IMPACT THAT THAT ONE OF HER COUNSELORS HAD ON HER AND HELPED STEER HER LIFE.

AND SO I THINK IT'S WHAT Y'ALL ARE DOING IS SO IMPORTANT.

AND I ECHO NANCY'S HOPES.

I HOPE THAT WE DO HAVE THE ABILITY TO HELP Y'ALL MORE WITH WHAT YOU DO BECAUSE THE WORK IS SO, SO IMPORTANT.

SO THANK YOU. CONGRATULATIONS AND THANKS FOR COMING ON SATURDAY.

THAT WAS GREAT. I HAD LEANED OVER TO THERESA.

I WAS LIKE, I THINK I JUST SAW HIM ON SATURDAY, SO THANKS FOR DOING A LITTLE DOUBLE DUTY ON THAT ONE.

LET'S GIVE THEM A ROUND OF APPLAUSE, Y'ALL.

[APPLAUSE] THANK YOU. GOOD JOB.

[APPLAUSE] ALL RIGHT.

WE ARE GOING TO TURN TO DR.

SELENDA ANDERSON FOR THE NEXT RECOGNITION, OUR FINAL RECOGNITION.

SO, DR. ANDERSON, THANK YOU, PRESIDENT STOLLE.

[00:20:02]

WE ARE EXCITED TO SHARE A NEW APPOINTMENT THIS EVENING.

AND I'D LIKE TO WELCOME JEFF BANNER, PRINCIPAL OF PLANO SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL TO THE PODIUM TO ASSIST WITH THIS EVENING'S INTRODUCTION.

MAKE A FEW INTRODUCTIONS OF LEADERS IN THE ROOM THAT HAVE HELPED WITH THIS PROCESS.

FIRST, AS OUR ASSOCIATE PRINCIPAL OF OUR STUDENT ACTIVITIES, MR. ANDY JACOB. HE'S IN THE ROOM AND OUR DISTRICT ATHLETIC DIRECTOR JEFF SMITH, IS IN THE ROOM AS WELL.

THANK THEM FOR THEIR HELP IN THE PROCESS.

I'M JEFF BANNER, THE PROUD PRINCIPAL OF THE PLANO SENIOR HIGH WILDCATS.

AND IT'S A PRIVILEGE TO BE UP HERE.

SPECIAL THANKS TO A FEW OTHER PEOPLE IN THE ROOM.

WE HAVE STUDENT ATHLETES IN HERE PARENTS, FANS, COACHES, STAFF MEMBERS WHO HELPED US PROVIDE A LEADERSHIP PROFILE FOR THIS POSITION.

WE GOT A LOT OF FEEDBACK TO DEVELOP WHAT DO WE WANT THIS NEW LEADER TO LOOK LIKE ON OUR CAMPUS.

AND SO I WANT TO THANK THEM FOR THEIR INPUT AND FEEDBACK ON THAT.

AFTER A LONG AND THOROUGH SEARCH, ACCOMPANIED BY A VERY COMPETITIVE INTERVIEW PROCESS, I'M THRILLED AND EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE OUR NEW HEAD COACH AND ATHLETIC DIRECTOR FOR PLANO SENIOR HIGH WILDCATS CODY WHITE.

CODY'S IN THE ROOM HERE.

I'M GOING TO TALK ABOUT HIM A LITTLE BIT.

HE HAS 28 TOTAL YEARS OF COACHING EXPERIENCE ACROSS 4A AND 5A BEFORE THERE WAS 6A IN TEXAS AND THOSE SCHOOLS SPAN ACROSS TEXAS. I'M GOING TO COVER THOSE.

AND MOST RECENTLY, HE SPENT 11 YEARS IN TENNESSEE AT BRENTWOOD ACADEMY.

HIS TEXAS ROOTS RUN DEEP.

HIS CAREER STARTED IN TEXAS.

AND IT'S GOING TO END IN TEXAS, RIGHT, CODY? SCHOOL. HIS CAREER AS A HEAD COACH AND ATHLETIC DIRECTOR OVERALL CAREER RECORD IS 138 AND 49, SO QUITE IMPRESSIVE OVERALL CAREER RECORD.

AS A HEAD COACH, HE STARTED AT DENISON HIGH SCHOOL IN 2005 AND WAS THERE THROUGH 2012.

IN 2008 THEY WERE 12 AND ONE IN AREA STATE OUR AREA CHAMPS.

IN 2009 THEY WERE 13 AND TWO STATE SEMIFINALISTS.

THAT YEAR HE EARNED THE DISTRICT COACH OF THE YEAR AND THE TEXOMA LAND COACH OF THE YEAR FOR THAT AREA.

HE LEFT DENISON TO GO TO BRENTWOOD ACADEMY IN NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE.

AND THERE HE HAD FOUR CONSECUTIVE STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS IN TENNESSEE.

OVER 11 SEASONS.

THOSE OTHER SEVEN SEASONS, COACH.

I GUESS THEY WERE SEMIFINALISTS QUARTERFINALISTS IN AREA CHAMPIONSHIP.

AND THAT'S TRUE. PRETTY IMPRESSIVE.

HE WAS A THREE TIME COACH OF THE YEAR IN TENNESSEE.

ONE OF THOSE WAS THE TENNESSEE TITANS HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL COACH OF THE YEAR IN 2017 AND TWO TIME TENNESSEE FOOTBALL COACH OF THE YEAR BY THE TENNESSEAN IN 2016 AND 2018.

AS THE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR AT BRENTWOOD ACADEMY THEY WERE RANKED THE NUMBER ONE ATHLETIC PROGRAM IN THE US BY MAXPREPS IN 2018.

THAT MEANS IN 2023 IT WILL BE PLANO SENIOR HIGH.

SO A TOTAL OF 36 STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS OVER THE LAST 11 YEARS AT BRENTWOOD ACADEMY SPANNING NINE SPORTS.

HE IS JOINED THIS EVENING BY HIS WIFE, LAURIE.

AND A SPECIAL SHOUT OUT TO THEIR DAUGHTERS, ASHLYN, KATHERINE AND LAUREN.

PLEASE HELP ME TO WELCOME COACH CODY WHITE TO PLANO SENIOR HIGH AND PLANO ISD.

[APPLAUSE] THANK YOU, JEFF. WELCOME, COACH.

ANYBODY CARE TO MAKE COMMENTS? BECAUSE I CERTAINLY HAVE ONE.

BUT I'M GOING TO WAIT. YOU KNOW, COACH, WHY I READ YOUR RESUME AND I WAS SO IMPRESSED.

AND THE THING IS THAT I CAN'T WAIT FOR US TO WIN.

THANK YOU. [LAUGHTER] I ALSO CANNOT WAIT FOR US TO WIN.

I SHARE ANGELA'S THOUGHTS THERE.

BUT JUST FROM A SIXTH GENERATION TEXAN, WELCOME BACK TO TEXAS.

WE'RE EXCITED TO HAVE YOU BACK.

I'M WEARING MAROON FOR A REASON THIS EVENING AND THAT'S A BIG DEAL COMING FROM A LONGHORN.

NO PLANO SENIOR HIGH IS A SPECIAL PLACE.

I SAID THAT TO YOU, COACH, BEFORE THE MEETING.

AND I WILL SAY THAT AGAIN.

IT IS A VERY, VERY SPECIAL PLACE.

AND I'M SO THRILLED TO HAVE SOMEONE OF YOUR REPUTATION, OF YOUR ACCOLADES.

OUR KIDS DESERVE THE ABSOLUTE BEST, AND IT IS APPARENT NOT JUST FOR THE FOOTBALL TEAM AS A COACH OF THE FOOTBALL TEAM, BUT FOR ALL THE ATHLETIC PROGRAMS AT PLANO SENIOR HIGH. SO THANK YOU FOR BRINGING THAT LEADERSHIP.

THANK YOU FOR BRINGING THAT HIGH BAR OF EXCELLENCE.

[00:25:03]

AND I CAN'T WAIT TO BE THERE ON A FRIDAY NIGHT AND YELL FOR WILDCAT NATION.

THANK YOU, SIR. AS A FIRST GENERATION TEXAN, I WANT TO SAY WE ALL CAME TO TEXAS, BACK TO TEXAS.

AND, YOU KNOW, I CAN'T HELP BELIEVING OUR KIDS WILL BE IN GOOD HANDS.

THANK YOU. I JUST WANT TO SAY WELCOME, WELCOME BACK TO TEXAS ALSO.

AND HOPEFULLY WE CAN GET THAT STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AGAIN BECAUSE WE'VE HAD IT IN THE PAST.

SO WE HOPE WE CAN GET THAT FOR OUR KIDS AND YOU CAN DO THAT.

SO THANK YOU AND WELCOME BACK FROM TENNESSEE.

SO THERESA TOLD ME THAT PLANO SENIOR HAD MADE THEIR HIRE AND IT WAS A GUY FROM TENNESSEE, AND IT TOOK ME ABOUT 2 SECONDS ON GOOGLE TO FIGURE OUT WHO IT WAS.

ANYBODY WHO KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL KNOWS THAT BRENTWOOD ACADEMY IS ONE OF THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS PROGRAMS IN THE ENTIRE COUNTRY.

AND THEY PRODUCE A LOT OF VICTORIES AND A LOT OF GOOD FOOTBALL PLAYERS.

AND SO REALLY HAPPY THAT YOU'RE HERE.

AND NO PRESSURE, OF COURSE.

SO JUST IF YOU COULD JUST DUPLICATE THOSE RESULTS, IT WOULD BE OKAY.

IT'D BE OKAY WITH US. BUT LIKE I'M FOND OF SAYING, UP HERE AT THE TABLE, IF YOU'RE GOING TO KEEP SCORE, I WANT TO WIN.

SO LET'S GO OUT THERE AND WIN COACH.

WELCOME BACK. LET'S GIVE COACH AND PRINCIPAL BANNER A ROUND OF APPLAUSE.

[APPLAUSE] ALL RIGHT, THANKS, YA'LL. SO THAT CONCLUDES OUR BOARD RECOGNITIONS FOR THE EVENING.

AND SO WE'RE GOING TO PAUSE FOR JUST A SECOND AND LET THOSE OF Y'ALL WHO WANT TO ESCAPE.

THIS IS YOUR CHANCE.

UNLESS YOU WANT TO STAY FOR A MEETING, YOU'RE MORE THAN WELCOME TO DO SO, YEAH.

PALS KIDS, Y'ALL GO.

DON'T FORGET TO LOOK AT THAT PORTRAIT OF A GRADUATE.

[LAUGHTER] COACH SMITH. COACH SMITH.

THE TIME IS 6:31.

SO WE HAVE QUITE A FEW ITEMS ON CLOSED SESSION FOR TONIGHT.

IT'S GOING TO BE A WHILE, SO GET COMFY.

I'M NOT MAKING ANY GUESSES BECAUSE I'M HORRIBLE AT IT.

ALL THAT EARLIER.

ALL RIGHT, EVERYBODY, THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE TONIGHT.

WE HAD QUITE A LENGTHY CLOSED SESSION LIST OF TOPICS TO DISCUSS THAT WERE IMPORTANT FOR US TO HANDLE TONIGHT.

BUT THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR PATIENCE.

[6. RECONVENE OPEN SESSION]

WE WILL NOW PROCEED TO VOTE.

ALL IN FAVOR PLEASE RAISE YOUR HAND.

THANK YOU. THAT MOTION PASSES UNANIMOUSLY.

IT'S ALREADY A LATE EVENING.

OK. MOVING ON NOW TO REPORTS.

[8.1 Athletic Program Alignment Update]

OUR FIRST REPORT IS 8.1, THE ATHLETIC ALIGNMENT PROGRAM UPDATE.

AND I THINK, SELENDA, YOU'RE GOING TO KICK US OFF? YES.

THANK YOU. PRESIDENT STOLLE, BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

WE ARE BACK NOW FOR THE THIRD TIME TO GIVE YOU GUYS AN UPDATE ON OUR ATHLETIC ALIGNMENT.

I'M GOING TO ASK ATHLETIC DIRECTOR JEFF SMITH TO COME TO THE PODIUM AND HE IS GOING TO KICK OFF THE PRESENTATION.

THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH.

ALWAYS GOOD TO SEE YOU AND BE BACK SO FOR ANOTHER WEEK.

SO WE'RE GOING TO GO AHEAD AND START OFF JUST REAL QUICK WITH JUST SOME STUDENT ENGAGEMENT AND PARTICIPATION NUMBERS AND SOME STATS THAT WE WANT TO JUST SHOW YOU GUYS ON THE ATHLETIC AND FINE ARTS SIDE BOTH AND TO KIND OF START WITH AND REALLY WE'RE GOING TO START WITH JUST SOME OF OUR SIXTH GRADE.

YOU KNOW, I KNOW WE'RE TALKING ABOUT SOME VERTICAL ALIGNMENT PIECES TONIGHT, BUT A BIG PART OF THAT OBVIOUSLY IS JUST OUR PARTICIPATION.

AND WE STUDY THESE NUMBERS VERY HARD.

AND, YOU KNOW, WE'RE STARTING OUT HERE AT THE PRE ATHLETICS, AS YOU GUYS ALL KNOW, WE STARTED PRE ATHLETICS THIS YEAR, IMPLEMENTED THAT IN THE SIXTH GRADE LEVEL AND IT'S JUST BEEN OUTSTANDING IN EVERY WAY.

AND WE'VE HAD SO MUCH GREAT PARTICIPATION.

YOU CAN SEE THERE ON THAT TOP, IT JUST SHOWS WE HAVE HOW MANY MALE, HOW MANY FEMALE STUDENTS THAT WE HAVE IN PRE ATHLETICS THIS YEAR IN 22, 23 929 MALE 810 FEMALE.

THE SES IS JUST OUR LOWER INCOME STUDENTS.

AND SO YOU'RE GOING TO SEE THAT THEME AND THAT MEASURED THROUGHOUT SOME OF THESE SLIDES, JUST SO YOU KNOW THAT.

SO THOSE ARE SOME OF OUR LOWER INCOME KIDS THAT WE WANT TO IDENTIFY AND FIND WAYS TO HELP, YOU KNOW, AND FIND WAYS TO MAKE SURE THEY'RE INCLUDED AND ENGAGED AND THEY'RE HAVING EVERY OPPORTUNITY THEY CAN TO BE IN ALL OF OUR PROGRAMS. YOU CAN SEE THAT THERE'S, YOU KNOW, 1,736 TOTAL ATHLETES THIS YEAR IN PRE ATHLETICS.

AND THEN YOU CAN SEE WHAT WE HAVE ENROLLED FOR NEXT YEAR, WHICH WE ALREADY HAD THOSE NUMBERS.

SO IT'S ALREADY HIGHER.

WE FEEL LIKE THOSE NUMBERS MAY EVEN GO UP A LITTLE BIT MORE.

AND SO THAT'S EXCITING.

WE'RE VERY PLEASED WITH HOW THAT'S GONE THIS YEAR.

SO THAT JUST KIND OF SHOWS YOU THE BREAKDOWN OF THIS YEAR AND NEXT YEAR WHAT'S LOOKING AT .

AT THE BOTTOM IS REALLY TAKING WHO'S IN PRE ATHLETICS THIS YEAR AND WHO'S GOING TO BE ENROLLING IN SEVENTH GRADE ATHLETICS NEXT YEAR.

WE HAVE 383 7TH GRADERS, 540 7TH GRADERS THAT ARE BOYS, 383 THAT ARE GIRLS.

AND THESE NUMBERS ARE STILL BEING ADJUSTED.

THEY'RE STILL ON THE RISE.

SO THIS IS REALLY INCONCLUSIVE AT THIS POINT, BUT WE'RE EXCITED TO SEE WHERE THAT LANDS BECAUSE WE WANT TO SEE THAT CARRYOVER.

[00:35:03]

YOU KNOW, HEY, WE WERE IN PRE ATHLETICS, NOW WE'RE MOVING ON TO ATHLETICS.

AND SO WE'RE STILL GETTING THOSE NUMBERS AND HOPEFULLY WE'LL HAVE AN UPDATE SOON ON THOSE.

AND I DO LIKE THAT PICTURE ON THE LEFT.

THAT'S RENNER RIGHT THERE. THAT'S ALL OUR KIDS WITH THEIR PRE ATHLETIC SHIRTS ON.

SO PRETTY COOL PICTURE, PRETTY EXCITED.

AS FAR AS JUST OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL FALL AND WINTER SPORT PARTICIPATION NUMBERS, THAT'S GRADE SEVEN AND EIGHT.

IT KIND OF GIVES YOU THE BREAKDOWN RIGHT THERE IN GIRLS ATHLETICS 497 487 EIGHTH GRADE 264 IN THAT SES COLUMN AND A TOTAL OF 977.

AND THEN YOU SEE THE BOYS, OUR NUMBERS A LITTLE HIGHER THERE.

OBVIOUSLY, FOOTBALL HAS LARGER NUMBERS.

THERE'S NO CUTS IN FOOTBALL, YOU KNOW, AND SO THERE'S THOSE TYPES OF THINGS THAT DO AFFECT SOMETIMES THE NUMBERS ON THE GUYS SIDE.

YOU KNOW, YOU CAN SEE THE NUMBERS ARE PRETTY CLOSE FROM SEVENTH, EIGHTH GRADE.

AND THEN YOU CAN SEE THE TOTAL NUMBER OF PARTICIPATION JUST A LITTLE BIT UNDER 4,000.

AND SO THAT'S AGAIN, THAT'S WE'RE IN BASKETBALL SEASON RIGHT NOW.

WE HAD A GREAT FOOTBALL AND VOLLEYBALL SEASON AND NOW WE'RE IN BASKETBALL AND IT'LL BE FINISHING UP IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS AND THEN ONTO TO TRACK AND SO EXCITED TO SEE THAT . MOVING ON TO HIGH SCHOOL AND FALL SPORTS PARTICIPATION NUMBERS IN GRADES 9 THROUGH 12.

AGAIN, WE HAVE A BROKEN DOWN BY GENDER AND SES AND TOTAL ATHLETES.

YOU CAN SEE IN FOOTBALL 832 MALES, 27 FEMALE AND THOSE FEMALES THAT A LOT OF THEM ARE STUDENT MANAGERS, STUDENT TRAINERS, THEY YOU KNOW, WE HAVE MALE AND FEMALE THAT HELP OUT IN A LOT OF WAYS.

AND SO WHEN YOU SEE THAT IN SOME OF THESE SPORTS, SOME OF THEM PLAY, YOU KNOW, AND SO YOU'LL SEE THAT FROM TIME TO TIME 407 IN THE SES COLUMN AND 893 IN FOOTBALL IN 9TH THROUGH 12TH, THOSE NUMBERS ARE UP THIS YEAR.

VOLLEYBALL, YOU CAN KIND OF SEE WE DO HAVE ABOUT 275 FEMALE TO MALE, 277 TOTAL ATHLETES, 46 AND THEN CROSS COUNTRY. YOU CAN SEE THE BREAKDOWN THERE.

WE HAD MORE FEMALES AND MALES AND HOW MANY SES STUDENTS WE HAD THEIR TOTAL ATHLETES AND THEN SWIM AND DIVE.

SOMETHING THAT YOU NOTICE HERE WHEN WE TALK A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT SES AND SOME OF THE THINGS WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD WITH THOSE NUMBERS.

YOU SEE A PRETTY EVEN BREAKDOWN IN SWIM AND DIVE AND YOU ONLY SEE THREE KIDS IN THERE.

AND SO THOSE ARE THE KIND OF THINGS THAT WE LOOK AT AND SAY, OKAY, WELL, WHY? AND WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? AND ARE THERE GAPS AND WHAT GAPS DO WE NEED TO LOOK AT AND WHAT DO WE NEED TO MAKE SURE WE HAVE AVAILABLE TO MAKE SURE WE ARE CATERING TO ALL OF OUR KIDS, YOU KNOW, NO MATTER WHERE THEY COME FROM AND WHAT THEIR SITUATION MAY BE.

AND SO, YOU KNOW, WHAT CAN WE OFFER POSSIBLY EVEN IN THE 6TH GRADE LEVEL TO TEACH THEM MORE ABOUT SWIM AND PRE ATHLETICS? I KNOW WE DON'T OFFER THAT IN PRE ATHLETICS OR SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADE, BUT CAMPS AND CLINICS AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR KIDS TO MAYBE, MAYBE THAT NUMBER WILL GO UP YOU KNOW AND SO THOSE ARE THE THINGS THAT WE REALLY LOOK AT STUDY HARD, SAME IN GOLF YOU CAN SEE WE HAVE ONE AND THAT 33 MALES, 30 FEMALES.

AND SO I THINK THAT THAT CREATES A LOT OF GOOD CONVERSATIONS AND A LOT OF THINGS THAT WE CAN TALK ABOUT IN OUR PROGRAMS TO MAKE IT MORE INCLUSIVE THAN IT ALREADY IS.

TENNIS 92 MALE AND 69 FEMALE AND THEN 18 IN THAT CATEGORY AS WELL.

SO THAT'S OUR THAT'S THROUGH TENNIS THERE.

AND THEN WE DO HAVE BASKETBALL, WHICH WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF RIGHT NOW, AND WE'VE GOT SOME REALLY GOOD BASKETBALL TEAMS. IF YOU'VE BEEN FOLLOWING ALONG AND SOCCER'S JUST GETTING STARTED AND WRESTLING, THEY HAVE WRESTLING REGIONALS THIS WEEKEND.

SO YOU CAN KIND OF SEE THE BREAKDOWN OF BASKETBALL VERY EVEN A FEW MORE BOYS AND GIRLS IN THEIR SES NUMBERS.

SOCCER, YOU KNOW, WE HAVE ABOUT ROUGHLY ABOUT 50 MORE MALES AND FEMALES.

AND, YOU KNOW, ADDING THE JV 2 TEAM HAS BEEN A REAL POSITIVE IN SOCCER.

WE DIDN'T USE TO HAVE THAT TWO YEARS AGO AND WE ADDED THAT, WHICH WAS AN OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE MORE KIDS PLAYING.

SO WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

AND THEN WRESTLING, I'LL BE HONEST, YOU SHOULD SEE OUR FEMALE WRESTLERS.

INCREDIBLE. WE HAVE A LOT GOING TO WRESTLE THIS WEEKEND AT REGIONALS.

THAT NUMBER CONTINUES TO RISE IN OUR DISTRICT ON THE FEMALE SIDE IN WRESTLING.

AND SO YOU CAN KIND OF SEE THE BREAKDOWN, OBVIOUSLY, TOTAL PARTICIPATION, 2677.

AND SO THAT'S WE HAVE A LOT OF SPORTS YOU GUYS KNOW, LEFT IN THE SPRING THAT WE'LL CONTINUE TO HAVE THESE NUMBERS AND LOOK AT THIS DATA.

BUT THAT'S UP THROUGH WRESTLING, WHICH IS WHERE WE ARE RIGHT NOW.

ANOTHER GOOD SLIDE, THIS IS ONE THAT I LOVE IS JUST THE ACADEMIC SIDE AND SOME OF THE GREAT ACADEMIC THINGS THAT OUR STUDENT ATHLETES DO.

I PUT THE 21-22 SCHOOL YEAR UP THERE ON ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT AND ACADEMIC, ALL STATE, ACADEMIC, ALL DISTRICT ARE BASICALLY WHERE YOU TAKE A STUDENT ON AT THE VARSITY LEVEL AND YOU CHECK THEIR GRADES AND IN ALL THEIR CLASSES IN THE QUARTER, THAT'S REALLY PREDOMINANT IN THEIR SEASON AND THEY HAVE A NINE YEAR ABOVE AVERAGE THAN THEIR ACADEMIC ALL DISTRICT.

AND SO LAST YEAR WE HAD 301 ATHLETES, WHICH WAS HIGHER THAN THE YEAR BEFORE.

[00:40:01]

WE ANTICIPATE THAT BEING HIGHER THIS YEAR AS WELL.

ACADEMIC, ALL STATE'S A HUGE HONOR.

WE HAVE THOSE, AND THAT'S VERY SELECTIVE.

THAT'S THROUGH THE TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL COACHES ASSOCIATION.

THEY HAVE TO HAVE A 92 AVERAGE AND HAVE TO TURN IN CLASS RANK AND ALL TYPES OF INFORMATION TO RECEIVE AN AWARD FROM THE THSCA.

AND SO THAT NUMBER IS LESS IT'S A LITTLE MORE CHALLENGING.

AND WE'VE GOT SOME REALLY SMART STUDENTS, AS YOU GUYS KNOW.

BUT WE HAD 130 LAST YEAR.

WHAT DO WE HAVE THIS YEAR? THROUGH CROSS COUNTRY VOLLEYBALL AND FOOTBALL? THAT'S THE NUMBERS RIGHT THERE WHERE WE'RE AT.

WE'RE STILL WAITING ON WRESTLING AND SWIMMING AND DIVING AND SOME OF THOSE SPORTS.

THEY'VE NOT CONCLUDED THOSE RESULTS YET.

SO THAT NUMBER WILL CONTINUE TO RISE.

BUT VERY PROUD OF OUR ACADEMIC, YOU KNOW, AWARDS BY THESE KIDS.

AND YOU CAN SEE THE ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT AWARDS AT THE BOTTOM IN CROSS COUNTRY VOLLEYBALL AND FOOTBALL.

SO EXTREMELY PROUD OF OUR OF OUR STUDENT ATHLETES AND WHAT GREAT STUDENTS THEY ARE IN THE CLASSROOM AND HOW THEY'RE DOING.

SCHOLARSHIPS, YOU KNOW, COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS AND RECOGNITIONS.

WE HAVE ANYWHERE FROM NAI TO DIVISION ONE, DIVISION TWO, DIVISION THREE.

WE HAVE KIDS GOING TO ALL SCHOOLS AND VERY SUCCESSFUL AND WE HAD ACTUALLY LAST WEEK WAS SUPPOSED TO BE SIGNING DAY ON FEBRUARY 1ST, ON WEDNESDAY, AND IT WAS WE HAD THE ICE AND THE WEATHER AND SO WE DIDN'T GET TO CELEBRATE LIKE WE NORMALLY DO.

AND SO WE'VE HAD SOME ONE WAS YESTERDAY, I BELIEVE, AT PLANO WEST.

IT MAY HAVE BEEN AND I'VE ADJUSTED SOME OF THESE NUMBERS A LITTLE BIT BECAUSE WE I DIDN'T HAVE THEM IN HERE, BUT WE'LL ALSO HAVE ANOTHER SIGNING DAY IN APRIL.

BUT LAST YEAR YOU CAN SEE OUR NUMBERS 17 AT PLANO SENIOR, 26 AT PLANO EAST, AND 26 AT PLANO WEST THAT CONTINUE THEIR EDUCATION WITH A SCHOLARSHIP IN ATHLETICS AND ACADEMICS SOMETIMES TOGETHER.

AND THEN STUDENT ATHLETE THIS YEAR 5 AT PLANO THAT NUMBER IS A LITTLE LOW JUST BECAUSE THERE ARE SOME THAT HAVEN'T DONE THEIR SIGNING YET AND THAT NUMBER WILL GO UP. AND THEN 14 TO PLANO EAST, 16 TO PLANO WEST, EXCITED ABOUT HOW WE'LL FINISH THIS YEAR.

AND YOU KNOW, WE'VE DONE MANY THINGS WITH RECRUITING SEMINARS AND THINGS TO TRY TO EDUCATE OUR PARENTS AND OUR KIDS TO TRY TO CONTINUE TO HELP OUR STUDENTS FIND A PLACE TO LAND AND GO TO THE NEXT LEVEL.

CHEERLEADING. WE HAVE 194 CHEERLEADERS IN 9 THROUGH 12 THIS YEAR AND THEN AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL IN EIGHTH GRADE, WHICH IS WHAT WE HAVE CHEER AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL, WE HAVE 179. SO OUR TOTAL PARTICIPATION WAS 373 CHEERLEADERS THIS YEAR.

THAT PICTURE ON THE LEFT SHOWS THE PLANO EAST TEAM THEY ACTUALLY QUALIFY FOR THE STATE THE STATE MEET THIS YEAR, FIRST TIME EVER AND PRETTY AWESOME.

AND ACTUALLY YOU SEE A COUPLE OF FOOTBALL PLAYERS IN THE BACK OF THAT PICTURE.

THEY WERE FOOTBALL PLAYERS AND THEY SAW JUST A REALLY NEAT STORY.

THEY GOT CAME OUT AND HELPED THE CHEER SQUAD QUALIFY FOR STATE.

SO LOVE SEEING KIDS DOING NOT JUST A SPORT BUT ALSO CHOIR OR BAND OR IN THIS CASE CHEER.

SO PRETTY AWESOME SEEING OUR KIDS DO A LOT OF AMAZING THINGS.

FINE ARTS AND WE PUT THIS IN HERE.

OBVIOUSLY FINE ARTS IS HUGE AND PHILLIP I KNOW WORKED ON THIS VERY HARD.

THE NUMBERS AND THE DATA, YOU KNOW, OBVIOUSLY THEY WE HAVE THE BEST PROGRAMS IN THE STATE AND YOU GUYS KNOW THAT HIGHLY ACCLAIMED BUT THEY'RE ALSO VERY WE'RE VERY WE'VE TALKED VERY OPENLY ABOUT HOW CLOSE WE ARE TOGETHER WITH ATHLETICS AND FINE ARTS AND HOW CLOSELY WE WORK TOGETHER.

AND SO YOU SEE THIS, YOU KNOW, THE BAND NUMBERS HERE INCLUDES MARCHING BAND.

AND YOU WE TALKED ABOUT THIS AND, YOU KNOW, YOU'LL SEE OUR BANDS MARCH ON THURSDAY NIGHT AND ON FRIDAY NIGHT AT GAMES.

AND SO WE'RE ALL SUPPORTING EACH OTHER.

IT'S PRETTY AWESOME TO WATCH.

AND SO WE HAVE THOSE BAND NUMBERS UP HERE WHERE THOSE LANDED 1,234 KIDS AND THEN THE DRILL TEAM, SAME, YOU KNOW, YOU'LL SEE THEM PERFORMING ON THURSDAYS AND FRIDAY NIGHTS AND THEN OBVIOUSLY THEIR OWN COMPETITIONS.

SO 205 DRILL TEAM, DANCE 626 ATHLETES OR DANCERS, VISUAL ARTS 3,688, WHICH IS AN ASTOUNDING NUMBER. THAT'S A LOT OF STUDENTS.

THEIR ORCHESTRA, A LITTLE OVER 1,000 THEATER ARTS, 816 IN CHOIR.

781 SO MAN EIGHT 8,369 KIDS IN FINE ARTS THAT THAT ARE NOT ONLY EXCELLING IN WHAT THEY DO IN THEIR OWN AREAS, BUT ALSO WHEN WE'RE WORKING TOGETHER AS ONE TEAM.

AND I KNOW WE'RE GOING TO BE TALKING ABOUT THAT A LITTLE BIT, LINING UP AND WORKING TOGETHER.

AND SO WE THOUGHT THAT WAS VERY APPLICABLE TONIGHT JUST TALK ABOUT BECAUSE OUR PROGRAMS WORK TOGETHER IN A LOT OF WAYS.

SO BEFORE WE JUMP INTO THE FINAL RESULT, SO YOU SEE A LOT MORE PEOPLE IN THE ROOM THAN WHAT YOU TYPICALLY SEE ON A TUESDAY NIGHT.

AND I CAN'T GO ANY FURTHER WITHOUT GIVING A SHOUT OUT TO THE PRINCIPALS BACK THERE AND THE SLI EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS, BECAUSE THEY DID PLAY A HUGE ROLE. I KNOW WE'VE TALKED ABOUT THIS WHEN WE'VE COME EACH TIME AND PRESENTED.

[00:45:05]

AND WE TOLD THEM ABOUT ALL OF OUR MEETINGS THAT WE HAD AND WHAT WE WERE DOING.

BUT THEY ARE HERE TO SUPPORT THIS EFFORT TONIGHT.

SO I REALLY APPRECIATE YOU GUYS BEING HERE AND I ESPECIALLY APPRECIATE MY TEAM DR.

MORGAN, THE FINE ARTS DIRECTOR AND JEFF, BECAUSE NONE OF THIS REALLY GOT AND NO ONE CAN TAKE CREDIT ON THEIR OWN HERE.

THIS WAS A HUGE TEAM EFFORT, INCLUDING THE SURVEY, WHICH WAS RUN THROUGH COMMUNICATIONS.

AND THEN I HAD BECKY JACKSON WHILE I WAS STUCK DOWN IN AUSTIN.

SHE WAS HELPING CRUNCH THE SURVEY RESULTS.

SO JUST AN IMMENSE AMOUNT OF APPRECIATION FOR YOU GUYS ON ALL THAT YOU'VE DONE TO HELP US WITH THIS.

SO I SENT THESE RESULTS TO YOU GUYS PRETTY EARLY RIGHT AFTER THE SURVEY CLOSED, BECAUSE I WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAD AMPLE TIME TO REVIEW IT.

AND LAST TIME WE MET, WE WENT OVER SOME OF THE SURVEY RESULTS JUST GENERALLY THAT WAS A TWO WEEK PERIOD THAT IT WAS OPEN AND IT DID AND EVERYBODY HAD AN OPPORTUNITY POSTED ON THE WEBSITE.

IT WAS SENT OUT MULTIPLE WAYS.

THE SCREENS THAT I'M GOING TO SHOW YOU IS JUST A DIFFERENT WAY OF LOOKING AT IT.

WE'RE DOING PIE CHARTS TONIGHT INSTEAD OF BAR GRAPHS FOR THE DEMOGRAPHICS, BUT JUST SWITCH IT UP A LITTLE BIT.

BUT I KNOW, NANCY, I BELIEVE YOU WERE THE ONE WHO BROUGHT THE QUESTION FORWARD ABOUT WANTING TO SEE THE DATA SPLIT OUT BETWEEN CLUSTER AND THEN BY PARTICIPANT. SO WE BROUGHT THAT FORWARD.

YOU GUYS GOT A VERY DETAILED REPORT ON THAT AND AS WELL AS ALL OF THE RAW DATA FOR THE QUALITATIVE QUESTION THAT WAS ASKED.

WHAT I'M GOING TO PRESENT VERY QUICKLY, JUST TO REVIEW BACK OVER THE SURVEY RESULTS IS THE CLUSTERS.

WE'RE JUST GOING TO REVIEW THAT.

SO THERE WERE TOTAL RESPONSES, 3,669 AND YOU CAN SEE THAT WEST AND CENTRAL WERE PRETTY CLOSE AND PANTHERS WEREN'T TOO FAR BEHIND.

SO WE DID GET ABOUT 700 MORE RESPONSES AFTER I SAID SOMETHING THE OTHER NIGHT.

SO SOMEBODY OUT IN THERE GOT GOING ON IT, THE PARTICIPANT TYPE WE HAD COMMUNITY MEMBERS, CURRENT PARENTS, CURRENT STUDENT, FORMER PARENT, FORMER STUDENT AND STAFF MEMBER.

THE BULK OF THE SURVEY RESPONDENTS WERE OUR CURRENT STUDENTS AND OUR CURRENT PARENTS.

AND THEN YOU CAN SEE THAT THERE'S ANOTHER SMALL PERCENTAGES FOR THE OTHER AREAS.

SO GOING BACK OVER THE QUESTIONS AND I DON'T WANT TO READ THESE AT NAUSEAM BECAUSE YOU HAVE SEEN THEM BEFORE, BUT JUST AS A REVIEW.

THE WAY THAT WE DID THE BAR GRAPH WAS TO SHOW THE OVERALL ON THE LEFT AND THEN BROKEN DOWN BY CLUSTER.

THROUGH EACH OF THESE QUESTIONS, YOU STILL SEE AN OVERWHELMING POSITIVE RESPONSE.

SO DID THE WAS THERE A POSITIVE IMPACT THAT THEY BELIEVED WITH THE JV TWO TEAMS? YES. THE SECOND QUESTION, THE CURRENT STRUCTURE OF 9, 10 HIGH SCHOOL AND 11, 12 SENIOR HIGH CAMPUSES PUTS US AT A COMPETITIVE ATHLETIC DISADVANTAGE.

YOU CAN SEE VERY SIMILAR.

DOESN'T MATTER WHAT CLUSTER YOU'RE IN, THEY'RE PRETTY SIMILAR IN RESPONSE.

THE THIRD QUESTION, AND I ADDRESSED THIS THE LAST TIME, WAS THE QUESTION THAT WAS ANSWERED WITH THE PERCEPTION OF, YEAH, I EITHER DO BELIEVE THAT THEY IDENTIFY OR NO, I DON'T BELIEVE THEY IDENTIFY.

BUT THE ISSUE WITH THIS QUESTION IS IT DOESN'T REALLY TELL US WHAT TO DO AS A RESULT OF THAT, STATEMENT.

SO WE STILL LEFT IT IN HERE JUST FOR SOME REVIEW.

THE FOURTH QUESTION CONSIDERING OVERALL APPEARANCE AND REPRESENTATION, SEEING TEAMS WEARING DIFFERENT COLORS, NAMES AND MASCOTS ON THE PLAYING FIELD APPEARS DISCONNECTED, DISORDERLY, OR LACKS COHESION.

YOU CAN SEE AGAIN, OVERWHELMINGLY PEOPLE AGREED THAT IT DID.

QUESTION FIVE DO YOU BELIEVE THAT ALIGNING THE TEAM NAMES, COLORS AND MASCOTS WOULD INCREASE SCHOOL SPIRIT AND UNITY WITH OUR 9, 12 SCHOOL STUDENT GROUPS? AND THIS ONE OVERWHELMINGLY AGREED THAT IT WOULD.

QUESTION SIX WAS THERE OUR BASIC GENERAL, DO YOU SUPPORT THIS QUESTION? DO YOU SUPPORT THAT ALIGNMENT? AND YOU CAN SEE AGAIN, A LOT OF YESES THERE.

[00:50:02]

QUESTION SEVEN WAS OUR QUALITATIVE QUESTION WHERE WE ASKED FOR ADDITIONAL FEEDBACK AND THERE WAS A 300 CHARACTER LIMIT.

WE HAD 860 RESPONSES, AND I READ EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM BECAUSE I REALLY WANTED TO SEE WHAT PEOPLE WERE SAYING, LIKE WHAT WERE THE THEMES THAT WERE BEING GENERATED? SO I CODED THEM ALL.

AND THE NEXT SLIDE I'M GOING TO SHARE WITH YOU GUYS WHAT THOSE THEMES NETTED FROM THE ANALYSIS BUT YOU CAN SEE THAT MOST OF THE RESPONSES THAT WE GOT ON THE QUALITATIVE QUESTION CAME FROM EITHER CURRENT PARENTS FIRST AND THEN CURRENT STUDENTS.

SO HERE ARE SOME OF THE THINGS THAT I FOUND WHEN I WAS READING ALL OF THOSE COMMENTS.

SOME OF THE REPEATED STATEMENTS THAT WERE MADE IS A FEW QUESTIONS AROUND HOW ARE YOU GOING TO DO THIS AT NO ADDITIONAL COST? SO WHEN WE TALK ABOUT IT IN OUR NEXT SECTION, WE'RE GOING TO ADDRESS THAT TO HOPEFULLY GIVE SOME ANSWERS TO THAT.

AND THEN LOTS OF COMMENTS ABOUT IF YOU'RE GOING TO DO THIS FOR THE ATHLETES, MAKE SURE YOU INCLUDE MARCHING BAND, DRILL, COLOR, GUARD ALL AT THE SAME TIME SO THAT THERE IS THAT COHESION ON THE FIELD.

THERE WERE SEVERAL AROUND TRANSPORTATION.

CURRENTLY WE HAVE ACTIVITY BUSSES THAT GO OVER AND TAKE STUDENTS FOR PRACTICES, BUT WE DO NOT HAVE THEM RETURNING.

SO THERE WERE SEVERAL WANTING US TO SEEK SOLUTIONS AROUND THAT AND THEN A FEW WANTING BLOCK SCHEDULING AT THE HIGH SCHOOL AND SENIOR HIGH SO THAT THEY COULD HAVE MORE TIME ON TASK IN THEIR AREAS.

THE CONSIDERATIONS FOR FUTURE STUDY.

THIS IS WHERE I GOT NERDY A LITTLE BIT AND I COUNTED BECAUSE I WAS SO CURIOUS.

WE HAD 114 COMMENTS AROUND CONSIDERING A 9-12 CAMPUS STRUCTURE THAT, YOU KNOW, CAN WE JUST CHANGE THEM UP AND MAKE THEM ALL 9-12 CAMPUSES? I KNOW THAT'S A LOT EASIER SAID THAN DONE, BUT THAT DID SURFACE AS THE MOST REPEATED THEME THAT CAME UP.

THE SECOND ONE WAS, IS THERE A WAY TO COMBINE NINTH GRADE TEAMS AT THE FEEDER HIGH SCHOOLS? FOR EXAMPLE, JASPER AND SHEPTON ARE NINTH GRADE TEAM COMBINED AND THAT THEY'RE PLAYING TOGETHER.

AND THEN THE LAST ONE THAT CAME UP WAS SEVERAL COMMENTS ABOUT, HEY, ADD MORE SPORTS GENERALLY AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL OR HIGH SCHOOL, SENIOR HIGH LEVEL. SOME OF THE ONES THAT SURFACED REPEATEDLY FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL WAS SOCCER.

NOT SURPRISING TO ME AS A FORMER MIDDLE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL AT ALL.

WRESTLING AND TENNIS, WE USED TO HAVE TENNIS AND THEN WE DIDN'T.

AND SO THERE WERE THOSE WERE REPEATED A LOT.

AND THEN HIGH SCHOOL AND SENIOR HIGH, SOME OF THE SPORTS THAT WERE MENTIONED WERE LACROSSE, ICE HOCKEY AND WATER POLO.

AND I KNOW JEFF IS GOING TO KIND OF TALK ABOUT THE REASONS WHY WE DO OR DON'T HAVE THOSE THINGS.

BUT I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT WE LOOK AT THINGS LIKE THIS EVERY SINGLE YEAR TO SEE HOW WE CAN BE MORE INCLUSIVE AND ADD.

DID YOU WANT TO ADDRESS? ABSOLUTELY, YES.

YOU KNOW, LOOKING AT THOSE CONSIDERATIONS FOR FUTURE STUDY, A COUPLE OF THOSE JUST TO TALK ABOUT IN MORE DETAIL, COMBINING THE NINTH GRADE TEAMS, THIS CAME UP LAST TIME WE TALKED TO OR I GUESS THE TIME BEFORE LAST, JUST ABOUT WHAT ARE THE YOU KNOW, WHAT IS IT YOU ALL SAY ABOUT THAT? WHERE WE AT WITH YOU ON THAT? IS THAT POSSIBLE? MANY YEARS AGO WE SOUGHT TO TRY TO POSSIBLY DO THIS.

WE WERE DENIED FROM THE UL TO DO THAT FOR VARIOUS REASONS.

IN QUOTING SOME OF THE RULES, I KIND OF QUOTED SOME OF THAT LAST YEAR OR LAST TIME WE TALKED.

BUT JUST LIKE I SAID, LAST TIME, WE'RE SEEKING GUIDANCE FROM THE UL ON, ON WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE, WHAT THAT WHAT YOU KNOW IS THAT A POSSIBILITY? YES. OKAY. WELL WHAT STEPS DO WE NEED TO TAKE OR WHAT DOES THAT LOOK LIKE? AND SO I KNOW THAT THE UL HAS HAD A LITTLE BIT OF A SHAKE UP.

OUR UL AD JUST TOOK A JOB IN NEBRASKA AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA.

AND SO THEY'RE ALL DOING A LITTLE BIT EXTRA.

BUT I'VE REACHED OUT TO ANOTHER PERSON DOWN THERE AND WE'RE TRYING TO GET SOME ANSWERS ON THAT SO THOSE ARE STILL IN DISCUSSIONS, CONVERSATIONS WE WANT TO HAVE AND GIVE YOU GUYS ANSWERS AND ANSWERS TO OUR PRINCIPALS AS WELL ON WHAT THAT COULD LOOK LIKE OR IF THAT'S POSSIBLE, OR HOW WE COULD MAKE THAT HAPPEN.

SO THERE'S MORE TO COME ON THAT JUST WANT YOU TO KNOW WE'RE STILL WAITING GUIDANCE.

I'VE TRIED TO REACH OUT TO ONE THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS A LITTLE BIT AND I HAVE NOT HEARD BACK, BUT WE WILL KEEP YOU POSTED ON THAT.

[00:55:07]

THE MORE SPORTS ADDING MORE SPORTS AND I KNOW WE GET THIS ON THE SURVEY, BUT I GET THIS ON MY VOICEMAIL QUITE A BIT SO WHICH IS GREAT.

YOU KNOW WE WANT THAT COMMUNITY FEEDBACK AND WE WELCOME AND WE APPRECIATE IT.

YOU KNOW, WE DO HEAR SOCCER A LOT AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL, AND WE HAVE A LOT WE HAVE A LOT OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS THAT REALLY ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT SOCCER AND FEEL THAT COULD REALLY BE A GREAT ADDITION AT SOME POINT.

AND SO WE HAVE CONVERSATIONS.

WE JUST LIKE I MENTIONED EARLIER, WE ADDED JV TWO JUST A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO.

WE USED TO JUST HAVE TWO SOCCER TEAMS AND WE WERE ABLE TO ADD A JV TWO WHEN WE IMPLEMENTED THE JV TWO PHASES, WHICH GAVE US A WHOLE OTHER TEAM.

AND WE'RE ABLE TO ADD A COACH TO THAT, WHICH WAS GREAT FOR OUR SOCCER COMMUNITY.

BUT THAT'S ONE WE DEFINITELY WILL STUDY, YOU KNOW, MOVING FORWARD, WRESTLING THE SAME.

I TOLD YOU THAT THAT'S A SPORT GROWING CRAZY IN TEXAS RIGHT NOW.

AND WE'VE GOT SOME REALLY GOOD WRESTLING PROGRAMS AND A LOT OF INTEREST IN THAT.

AND SO THAT'S ONE WE'RE STUDYING AS WELL.

TENNIS, AS DR.

ANDERSON MENTIONED, WE HAD THAT IT WAS BACK IN 07 OR 08 WHEN WE HAD SOME CUTS.

IT WAS TAKEN BACK OUT AND IT'S STILL OUT AT THIS TIME.

BUT WE HAVE A LOT OF INTEREST IN THAT STILL.

AND THEN HIGH SCHOOL AND SENIOR HIGH, YOU GUYS KNOW WE HAVE GREAT LACROSSE CLUBS.

RIGHT NOW THEY'RE CLUBS AND WE HAVE GREAT RELATIONSHIP WITH OUR LACROSSE PROGRAMS AND THEY'RE VERY SUCCESSFUL.

BUT AT THIS TIME THEY'RE NOT A UL SPORT.

AND SO THEY ARE STILL A CLUB THAT WE WORK CLOSELY WITH AND TRY TO THEY USE OUR FIELDS ALL THE TIME AND WE'VE GOT A GREAT RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM.

AND AT THIS TIME, THE UL HAS NOT TAKEN THAT SPORT ON AS PART OF THE UL.

ICE HOCKEY EITHER IT'S STILL A CLUB AND PLANO EAST IS BACK TO BACK STATE CHAMPS IF YOU DIDN'T KNOW THAT IN ICE HOCKEY.

SO THEY'RE VERY GOOD AND WE HAVE GOOD ICE HOCKEY TEAMS AND SO AGAIN THE UL HAS NOT BROUGHT THAT SPORT INTO UL COMPETITION BUT IT IS STILL ONE OF OUR CLUBS WE WORK CLOSELY WITH.

AND WATER POLO ACTUALLY JUST GOT VOTED IN AS A SPORT.

AND AT THIS POINT, YOU KNOW, WE'VE STUDIED THAT WITH THE CITY.

WE SHARE POOLS, WE HAVE LANES THERE ARE SOME LOGISTICS WE'RE WORKING THROUGH.

WE'RE GAUGING INTEREST.

WE HAVE NOT OFFICIALLY ADDED THAT YET, BUT WE CAN AND WE'RE STUDYING THAT.

AND SO ALL THESE AREAS, ALL THAT TO SAY WE'RE STUDYING AND ARE LISTENING AND LOOKING AT WAYS TO BRING TO YOU AND DISCUSS, YOU KNOW, AS WE MOVE FORWARD WITH THESE OPTIONS.

WE'LL GO AHEAD AND MOVE ON HERE.

DR. ANDERSON, ARE WE GOOD? JUST OUR NEXT STEPS AND WANTED TO, YOU KNOW.

YOU KNOW, JUST FIRST JUST SAY THAT, YOU KNOW, WE'RE RECOMMENDING THE FOLLOWING PHASES TO THE ADMINISTRATION FOR APPROVAL AND ARE ALSO SEEKING BOARD SUPPORT SINCE THIS INVOLVES OUR SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY AND SO THAT'S WHAT WE'RE SEEKING TONIGHT.

AND WE CAN'T DO WITHOUT YOU AND OBVIOUSLY WITH OUR ADMINISTRATION AND OUR COMMUNITY.

AND SO WE'RE GOING TO KIND OF TALK ABOUT WHAT THIS LOOKS LIKE, THE RECOMMENDATIONS THAT WE'RE MAKING IN DETAIL.

AND I'VE GOT THEM BULLETED OUT HERE, BUT WE'LL KIND OF GO INTO MORE DETAIL AND WE HAVE THEM BROKEN DOWN INTO PHASES.

AND SO IN 23-24, WHICH THIS WOULD START AGAIN, OUR RECOMMENDATION IN THE SPRING, WE WOULD START AS SOON AS WE COULD.

AND FIRST OF ALL, JUST THE OFFICIAL COMMUNICATION AND THE MESSAGING TO FORMALLY CHANGE MASCOTS.

SO WE FEEL THAT WE'RE WORKING WITH PRINCIPALS AND WE REALLY DO HAVE THE BEST PRINCIPALS.

WE WORK WITH THEM SO MUCH, WALKING THEIR FACILITIES, TALKING, SEEKING THEIR GUIDANCE AND FEEDBACK, AND WE TRULY HAVE THE BEST AND JUST LISTENING TO THEM, BUT ALSO FINDING WAYS TO COMMUNICATE THAT OUT, YOU KNOW, TO OUR PEOPLE IN OUR COMMUNITY AND OUR KIDS.

AND JUST MAKING SURE WE'RE GIVING THEM THE TOOLS THAT THEY NEED TO COMMUNICATE AND ANSWER QUESTIONS AND WALK THROUGH THAT JOURNEY WITH THEM.

SO THAT'S REALLY IMPORTANT TO US.

AND SO THAT WOULD BE STEP ONE.

SO WE GET THAT RIGHT.

AND WE KNOW WE'VE HAD A LOT OF THESE CONVERSATIONS WITH YOU, BUT WE FEEL LIKE WE NEED TO DO THE SAME WITH OUR CAMPUSES AT THAT LEVEL AS WE GET THIS STARTED.

TEAM NAMES AND MASCOTS WOULD OFFICIALLY BE ALIGNED TO THE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOLS SO THAT THEY WOULD LINE UP WITH THE PANTHERS AND THE WOLVES AND THE WILDCATS AND THE COLORS WOULD CORRESPOND WITH THE SENIOR HIGH COLORS.

AND SO WHAT YOU WOULD SEE AT SHEPTON OR JASPER WOULD BE THEY WOULD BE ROYAL AND BLACK AND THEY WOULD BE WOLVES.

PLANO WOULD BE MAROON AND WHITE WOULD BE THE WILDCATS AT CLARK AND VINES.

AND THEN YOU GUYS KNOW MCMILLEN AND WILLIAMS THEY WOULD BE BLACK AND GOLD AND BE PANTHERS AND THE TEAMS AND THE MASCOTS, THEY WOULD ALL LINE UP.

THE ATHLETIC UNIFORMS THIS INCLUDES CHEER WOULD BE DESIGNED AND PURCHASED THIS SPRING.

AND YOU KNOW, JUST TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THOSE THAT QUESTION THAT SURFACED A LITTLE BIT ABOUT, YOU KNOW, HOW IS THIS NOT COSTING US MORE MONEY? HOW DOES THAT WORK?

[01:00:01]

THAT'S A GREAT QUESTION.

THAT'S A FAIR QUESTION.

AND TO BE HONEST, WE HAVE CURRENT ROTATIONS ALREADY, AND SO WE'RE GOING TO CONTINUE THOSE CURRENT ROTATIONS.

AND SO THAT'S MONEY WE'VE ALREADY BUDGETED FOR.

BUT IN ADDITION TO THAT, THERE ARE MANY OF THESE THAT WERE APPROVED FOR IN THE BOND FUNDS THAT WE JUST PASSED.

AND SO THOSE TWO ITEMS WILL HELP US TAKE CARE OF THESE THINGS LIKE ATHLETIC UNIFORMS AS WELL AS FINE ART UNIFORM ROTATIONS.

AND SO WE'VE ALREADY CRUNCHED THE NUMBERS ON A LOT OF THE UNIFORMS AND LOOKED AT THAT VERY CLOSELY.

AND THEN WE TALK ABOUT THE FINE ARTS UNIFORM ROTATIONS.

IT WOULD ALSO START IN THE SPRING OF 2023 AND WILL TAKE PLACE AS SCHEDULED.

JUST LIKE WE SAID, WE HAVE SCHEDULED ROTATIONS AND THAT'S WHERE WE WOULD STAY ON THOSE SCHEDULES FOR ROTATION IN SPRING OF 2023.

OBVIOUSLY THAT'S BAND, THAT'S DRILL, MARCHING BAND AND DRILL.

PLANNING GYM FLOORS, BECAUSE WHEN YOU GO TO THESE 9-10 AND I'VE TAKEN A LOT OF PICTURES AT A LOT OF OUR 9-10S AND WALK FACILITIES WITH OUR PRINCIPALS AND LOOKED AT THINGS YOU KNOW THE GYM HAS A LOT OF LOGOS AND A LOT OF MURALS AND A LOT OF PAINT, YOU KNOW, AND SOME MORE THAN OTHERS.

AND SO, YOU KNOW, HAVING A STRATEGIC PLAN TO ADDRESS THOSE AND TO TRY TO FIX THOSE AS QUICKLY AS WE CAN, BUT EFFICIENTLY, BUT ALSO FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLY WOULD BE VERY IMPORTANT.

BUT, YOU KNOW, WE'RE LOOKING AT THOSE TWO HIGH SCHOOL CAMPUSES IN THAT, YOU KNOW, TWO HIGH SCHOOL CAMPUSES THAT WE WOULD STUDY AND MAKE THAT DECISION ON WHICH THOSE TWO WOULD BE, BUT THAT WOULD BE REPAINTING, STRIPPING THEM DOWN AND REPAINTING THEM AND REFINISHING THEM TO MATCH THE SENIOR HIGH COLORS THAT THEY CORRESPOND WITH.

SO IF WE WERE DOING THE VINES GYM, WE WOULD STRIP THAT DOWN.

IT WOULD BE A MAROON, WE WOULD USE THE MAROON COLOR SCHEME AND WE WOULD HAVE WILDCAT MURALS AND WE WOULD BEGIN THAT PROCESS.

AND WE KNOW THAT'S GOING TO BE A PROCESS.

IT'S GOING TO BE. BUT WE'VE TALKED A LOT WITH OUR FACILITIES TEAM AND WE'LL CONTINUE TO HAVE OTHER CONVERSATIONS ABOUT THAT.

AND THAT LEADS ME TO THE NEXT POINT.

JUST WORKING WITH THE FACILITIES TEAM AND TO PLAN AND REDESIGN CAMPUS INTERIOR.

OBVIOUSLY THE PRINCIPALS ARE A HUGE PART OF THAT.

MAYBE THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THAT IN MAKING SURE WE GET WITH THEM AND IN THEIR BUILDINGS AND LOOK AT THEIR VISION AND THIS RECOMMENDATION OF CHANGING THE COLORS AND WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE AND AREAS THAT ARE CONCERNS AND DESIGNING THAT BECAUSE THERE'S YOU KNOW THERE'S CARPET, THERE'S TILE THERE'S MURALS THERE'S DIFFERENT THINGS ON THESE CAMPUSES THAT WE WOULD NEED TO LINE UP WITH THE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL OVER AN AMOUNT OF TIME.

AND SO THAT'S WHY THEY'RE IN PHASES, BUT WE WOULD WORK WITH THE TEAM TO DO THAT.

AND THEN, YOU KNOW, FACILITY PROJECTS WILL BE EXPEDITED ON A ROTATIONAL NEEDS BASIS AND WE'LL BEGIN.

THEY WOULD ALSO BEGIN IN THE SPRING OF 2023.

AS FAR AS PHASE TWO IN 24 AND 25, THIS WOULD BE THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.

OBVIOUSLY, YOU KNOW, LOOKING AT ATHLETIC UNIFORMS, WE WOULD BUY AN ADDITIONAL COLOR, THOUGH WE WOULD ALL, IN PHASE ONE, BE ABLE TO PUT ALL OF OUR TEAMS TO MATCH.

THAT'S THE INITIATIVE.

WE WOULD STILL NEED TO SUPPLEMENT THAT IN YEAR TWO AND ADD MORE UNIFORMS, THE OPPOSITE COLOR.

AND SO THAT'S WHAT THAT IS.

AGAIN, THAT'S ON THAT ROTATIONAL BASIS, BUT ALSO USE SOME OF BOND MONEY THAT'S ALREADY BEEN APPROVED FOR THOSE PROJECTS WITH UNIFORMS. AND THEN AGAIN, WE SEE FINE ARTS UNIFORMS WILL BE ALIGNED.

THIS IS A LITTLE MORE SPECIFIC THIS TIME EXPEDITE FOR DESIGNS AND PURCHASE IN THE SPRING OF 2024.

SO YOU CAN SEE THE CAMPUS SHEPTON AND JASPER AND VINES BANDS, VINES, WILLIAMS, MCMILLEN AND SHEPTON DRILL TEAMS WOULD BE THE FOCUS IN 24.

AGAIN, WE WOULD CONTINUE ON WITH TWO MORE GEMS REPAINTING, REFINISHING THE SPRING OF 2024, AGAIN, ON A ROTATIONAL BASIS THAT WE HAVE SET WORKING WITH OUR FACILITIES TEAM AND THEN WE WOULD CONTINUE THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR.

IT'S REALLY NOT AS MUCH EXTERIOR.

I'M NO ARCHITECT OR DESIGNER OF SCHOOL LAYOUTS, BUT LOOKING AT OUR CAMPUS, IT'S NOT, BESIDES MAYBE THE MARQUEE IT'S REALLY NOT AS MUCH EXTERNAL AS IT IS INTERNAL THAT YOU SEE, AND IT'S IN CERTAIN HALLWAYS OR IN THE GYM SPECIFICALLY OR LOCKER ROOM AREAS.

AND SO WE WOULD CONTINUE THAT WITH OUR FACILITIES TEAM IN THE SPRING OF 2024.

AND THEN FINALLY, IN PHASE THREE, THIS WOULD BE THE 25 AND 26 SCHOOL YEAR.

WE WOULD ACTUALLY CONCLUDE THAT GYM FLOOR AND REPAINTING, YOU KNOW, THAT WOULD BE THAT WOULD BE FINISHING IT OUT, REFINISHING THE FINAL TWO GYMS IN THAT PHASE CONCLUDE THE FACILITIES, INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR.

REMAINING HIGH SCHOOLS WITH GENERAL BOND AND GENERAL MAINTENANCE TIMELINE AS WE KIND OF TALKED ABOUT, AND THEN FINALIZE ANY PROJECTS WITH ALL CAMPUSES AND STAKEHOLDERS.

AND THEN WE WANT TO JUST WHEN IT'S OBVIOUSLY WE WANT TO CIRCLE BACK WITH OUR PRINCIPALS AND OUR FACILITIES AND OUR FINANCE AND PROGRAMS EVERYTHING, AND JUST GO BACK THROUGH EVERYTHING AND MAKE SURE WE LEFT NO STONE UNTURNED THAT WE'VE YOU KNOW, WE'RE LOOKING AT EVEN THE COMMUNICATION, THE SOCIAL MEDIA, THE BRANDING, EVERY PIECE OF THIS THAT WE DIDN'T

[01:05:07]

MISS ANYTHING. AND IF THERE ARE THINGS THAT WE MISS, WE NEED TO GO BACK AND GET THEM RIGHT.

AND SO WE DEFINITELY NEED TO GO BACK AT THE END AND DO THAT AND OBVIOUSLY THROUGH THE PROCESS.

BUT I KNOW WHEN WE CONCLUDE IT, WE WANT TO GO BACK AND REVIEW THAT.

WE HAD THIS SLIDE IN LAST TIME.

AND I THINK IT'S A GREAT REMINDER BECAUSE THIS QUESTION COMES UP FROM TIME TO TIME.

BUT, YOU KNOW, JUST THERE'S NO IMPLICATIONS TO THE FOLLOWING.

AND NUMBER ONE, FINE ARTS PROGRAMING THIS IS WHERE OUR PROGRAMS WILL MOVE ON AS WE'VE HAD THEM.

NO CHANGE OF ALIGNMENT, YOU KNOW, AND SO WE JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE WE ALL UNDERSTAND THAT .

OUR EXISTING STAFF, IT WILL STAY THE SAME.

THE COST OF UNIFORMS IS REALLY ALREADY BUILT IN OUR ROTATION SCHEDULE WITH NO ADDITIONAL IMPACT.

AND WE'VE TALKED ABOUT THAT.

THAT'S REALLY IMPORTANT.

BUILDING UPDATES AND REFURBISHMENTS, YOU KNOW, YOU KNOW, AND YOU SEE THAT AS PART OF A STRATEGIC ROAD MAPPING ALIGNMENT FOR COSMETIC CHANGES TO CAMPUS CAN BE DISCUSSED AS PART OF THE BOND PROGRAM AND GENERAL MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE.

SO THOSE ARE THOSE CONVERSATIONS THAT WE WILL HAVE, BUT NO IMPLICATIONS TO THESE THINGS.

AND WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE PUT THAT IN AGAIN TO REMIND EVERYONE OF THAT.

AND WE ALSO HAD THIS SLIDE IN, WHICH IS MY FAVORITE SLIDE, AND THAT'S JUST, YOU KNOW, JUST ABOUT VERTICAL UNITY IN THE BRAND.

AND YOU SAW OUR LONG TERM GOAL WAS THIS IS WHERE WE WANT TO LAND AND WE WANT TO BE; ONE WE WANT TO BE A FAMILY.

WE WANT TO BE ALL TOGETHER.

AND THAT'S OUR RECOMMENDATION THAT THERE'S POWER AND THEIR STRENGTH IN UNITY AND THEN COHESION AND ALL BEING ON THE SAME TEAM AND FIGHTING FOR THE SAME FOR THE SAME BRAND. AND SO ONE TEAM, ONE NATION, ONE BRAND.

AND SO AS I MENTIONED EARLIER, AFTER RECEIVING INPUT FROM OUR COMMUNITY THROUGH A SURVEY, THE RECOMMENDED PHASES ARE PRESENTED TO PROVIDE GREAT DETAIL AROUND WHAT WE ARE ASKING THE ADMINISTRATION TO APPROVE AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, TO SEEK SUPPORT FROM OUR BOARD AS WE MOVE FORWARD WITH THIS VERTICAL UNITY AND BRANDING. SO AGAIN, WE APPRECIATE YOU.

OBVIOUSLY, YOUR SUPPORT IS PARAMOUNT.

THE SUPPORT OF OUR COMMUNITY.

AND THESE SURVEYS WERE GREAT.

WE LEARNED A LOT FROM THOSE AND WE APPRECIATE EVERYONE'S FEEDBACK.

WE APPRECIATE ALL THE WORK.

DR. ANDERSON SAID THAT WE CAN'T THANK EVERYONE ENOUGH FOR JUST THE TIME AND EFFORT AND EYES PUT ON THIS AND QUESTIONS ASKED.

I KNOW IT'S HELPED EVERYONE JUST PROVIDE CLARITY, BUT THIS IS AN EXCITING INITIATIVE.

THIS IS A BIG INITIATIVE AND WE KNOW THAT.

AND WE KNOW IT'S NO SMALL TASK, BUT WE'RE UP FOR THE TASK.

SO THAT'S OUR RECOMMENDATIONS MOVING FORWARD.

AND THAT'LL CONCLUDE MY PART.

SHOULD WE HAVE QUESTIONS MAYBE? SO JEFF, I APPRECIATE THAT.

LET ME JUMP IN BEFORE WE ASK, TURN IT OVER TO THE BOARD, BECAUSE YOU MAY HAVE QUESTIONS.

SO JUST WANT TO NOTE THAT THIS IS A REPORT ITEM AND NOT A BOARD ACTION ITEM, BECAUSE THIS IS NOT ACTUALLY AN ITEM THAT THE BOARD HAS TO APPROVE. HOWEVER, AS JEFF SAID, THIS IS A STRUCTURAL CHANGE AND IT'S AN IMPORTANT CHANGE IT'S A BIG CHANGE FOR PLANO.

AND SO THE RECOMMENDATION IS COMING TO ADMINISTRATION TO MAKE THIS CHANGE, TO IMPLEMENT THIS CHANGE.

HOWEVER, I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT FOR THE BOARD TO OFFER ITS OPINIONS AND VOICE YOUR SUPPORT OR YOUR CONCERN OR WHATEVER, SO THAT THE ADMINISTRATION KNOWS THAT IT DOES HAVE THE SUPPORT TO MAKE A MAJOR CHANGE LIKE THIS.

AND SO WITH THAT, I'LL OPEN IT UP TO THE BOARD.

BUT JUST PERSONALLY, I'M AN ENTHUSIASTIC LOVE THIS SO.

YOU KNOW.

BOARD MEMBERS? I AGREE WITH THAT.

I THINK THAT I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU FOR PREPARING THE PIE CHARTS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE WAY I'D ASKED.

I APPRECIATE THAT EFFORT BECAUSE I KNOW THAT YOU GUYS ARE BUSY, BUT THE ICE STORM GAVE YOU THAT, RIGHT? ANYWAY, ONE QUESTION OR MAYBE IT'S A COMMENT.

I'M THINKING ABOUT PTA AND YOU KNOW HOW THEY SELL SPIRIT WEAR ON CAMPUSES AND THAT SORT OF THING.

SO WE'LL NEED TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE VARIOUS, I THINK, WHAT, 73 PTA OR I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY.

IT'S LESS THAN THAT, ISN'T IT? BUT PTAS THAT WE HAVE SO THAT THEY CAN PIVOT IN THEIR YOU KNOW, THEY'RE GOING TO END UP WITH SOME PROBABLY EXISTING VINTAGE T SHIRTS AND THINGS THAT THEY MIGHT HAVE IN INVENTORY.

BUT I GUESS WE JUST WANT TO LET THEM BE AWARE OF THIS CHANGE AS SOON AS WE CAN.

AND BOOSTER CLUBS, I SHOULD SAY.

IT'S REALLY BOOSTER CLUBS.

SO, JEFF, I WANT TO ASK YOU A QUESTION ABOUT SOME OF THE FUTURE QUESTIONS THAT WERE RAISED FOR TOPICS, ONE OF THEM BEING THE 9-12 CAMPUSES.

AND IF WE HAVE OUR TWO SENIOR HIGH SCHOOLS OR I'M SORRY, TWO HIGH SCHOOLS THAT ALIGNED WITH SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL IN COLORS AND

[01:10:06]

MASCOT, BUT THEN WE DECIDE IN THE FUTURE THAT THE BOARD WANTS TO DO 9 THROUGH 12 CAMPUSES.

HOW WOULD THAT YOU KNOW, HOW WOULD THAT LOOK? YOU KNOW, BECAUSE THOSE CAMPUSES WOULD LIKELY NEED TO TAKE ON THEIR OWN IDENTITY AND WOULD LIKELY HAVE SOME DIFFERENT INITIATIVES.

THEY WOULDN'T BE FEEDING IN TO A SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL ANYMORE.

THEY'D BE 9, 12 CAMPUSES.

AND SO I WONDER WHAT THAT MIGHT DO TO SOMETHING LIKE THIS.

I GUESS MY QUESTION WOULD BE I'M TRYING TO UNDERSTAND KIND OF YOUR QUESTION AS FAR AS.

YOU KNOW, IF WE WERE TO SLIDE TO A 9-12 WITH WE HAVE TWO 9-10 CAMPUSES THAT FEED 11-12.

ARE YOU TALKING THAT THE 9-12, THE 9-10 CAMPUS WOULD BE 9-12 CAMPUSES.

YEAH. YEAH.

THE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL AND THE TWO HIGH SCHOOLS THEY WOULD ALL BECOME 9-12.

YEAH. YEAH. YEAH.

THAT'S WHAT I HAD INTERPRETED AS SOMETHING THAT'S, WHAT WAS THERE FOR FUTURE DISCUSSION.

YEAH. SO LET ME JUST KIND OF ADDRESS THAT.

SO ONE, IT WOULD BE A VERY COMPLEX PROCESS FROM HAVING TO GO AND RENAME SCHOOL NUMBERS, TEA, UIL. THERE'S A WHOLE SERIES OF THINGS AND LOTS OF MONEY AND DOLLARS BEHIND THAT.

WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE CAPACITY OF OUR HIGH SCHOOLS VERSUS THE CAPACITY OF OUR SENIOR HIGHS, IF WE WERE TO GO TO ALL 9 THROUGH 12, WE WOULD BE VERY INEFFICIENT BECAUSE WE WOULD NOT FIRST, OUR HIGH SCHOOLS DO NOT HAVE THE CAPACITY TO HOLD A 9-12 AND THEN OUR SENIOR HIGHS WOULD I MEAN, IF YOU WERE TO TAKE THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS THAT WE HAVE THAT ARE 9 THROUGH 12 AND DIVIDE THEM OUT AMONGST OUR 6 HIGH SCHOOLS AND 3 SENIOR HIGHS, THEY WOULD NOT ALL FIT EQUALLY AT OUR CAMPUSES.

IT WOULD BE VERY DISJOINTED.

IT WOULD ALSO JUST FROM OFFERING COURSES, OFFERING TEACHERS YOU'RE NOW WE'RE LOSING A LOT OF INEFFICIENCIES BECAUSE YOU'RE GOING TO NOW NEED TO OFFER ALL OF THOSE COURSES, WHICH ARE WHAT, 2000, OR 3000 COURSES.

TIMES 9 VERSUS WE HAVE OUR CURRENT STRUCTURE.

I DON'T KNOW THAT IT SOUNDS GOOD IN REALITY TO SAY, WELL, CAN'T WE JUST HAVE A 9-12 CONCEPT TO UNDO WHAT HAS BEEN THE WAY OUR SCHOOLS HAVE BEEN DESIGNED FROM ARCHITECTURAL STANDPOINT TO THE WAY THEY'RE STAFFED, TRANSPORTATION BOUNDARIES, LIKE YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT A COMPLETE DISRUPTION OF HISTORY.

CAN IT BE DONE? WELL, ANYTHING JUST ABOUT CAN BE DONE, BUT IT WOULD BE I DON'T KNOW THAT THAT WOULD BE IN THE BEST INTEREST.

NOW, YOU COULD LOOK AT PERHAPS THERE'S A COMMON NUMBER BETWEEN THREE SCHOOLS OR COULD YOU LOOK AT A COMBINATION OF LIKE THE HIGH SCHOOLS OR THE NINTH GRADE CENTERS? I MEAN, YOU COULD LOOK AT SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

I JUST WOULD JUMP IN TO AND SAY THIS THAT TYPE OF DECISION WOULD BE A MASSIVE DECISION THAT WOULD BE MADE AT THE BOARD LEVEL AND THEN IT WOULD HAVE TO BE GENERATED.

YES. I MEAN, THERE WOULD BE THAT WOULD TAKE YEARS REALLY TO STUDY.

AND SO I THINK TO THE I THINK THE POINT TO PUT THAT ON THERE WAS THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY WHO ARE SAYING, DO WE WANT TO LOOK AT THAT? THAT IS A MASSIVE UNDERTAKING AND WOULD REQUIRE THE BOARD TO CHANGE THE WAY THAT WE DELIVER ACADEMICS IN THIS CITY.

TO ADD TO THAT, JUST HISTORICALLY, PART OF THIS CONCEPT WAS THAT ALL THREE SENIOR HIGH'S GOT THE SAME THINGS RIGHT, LIKE THOSE FIELD HOUSES WERE ALL BUILT IN THE SAME YEAR.

AND YOU KNOW, THE IDEA OF HAVING IF YOU GO TO 9-12 SCHOOLS INSTEAD OF THE CURRENT SETUP DO YOU THEN GO RETROFIT, YOU KNOW, JASPER AND SHEPTON AND EVERYTHING WITH THE SAME THING THAT ALL THE SENIOR HIGHS HAVE AND THE MASSIVE AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT WOULD COST? I MEAN, IT'S LIKE CARTOON CHARACTER WITH DOLLAR SIGNS IN THEIR EYES IT'S SORT OF JUST THE MENTAL PICTURE THAT I HAVE RIGHT NOW OF.

SO THAT'S NOT MUCH OF A FUTURE CONVERSATION THEN? WELL, I MEAN WHETHER IT IS OR ISN'T, I MEAN, HISTORICALLY, THAT'S ONE THING THAT'S BEEN IMPRESSED UPON ME IN TERMS OF THE WAY THAT THE SENIOR HIGHS HAVE DEVELOPED AND THE HIGH SCHOOLS HAVE DEVELOPED SO THAT WE'RE NOT GIVING PLANO EAST A BUNCH OF STUFF THAT PLANO WEST ISN'T GETTING AND WE'RE NOT GIVING JASPER A BUNCH OF STUFF THAT WILLIAMS ISN'T GETTING IN THIS SORT OF THING.

AND THE SENIOR HIGHS HAVE VERY DIFFERENT STUFF THAN THE HIGH SCHOOLS AND VERY DIFFERENT EXPENSIVE STUFF THAN THE HIGH SCHOOLS.

[01:15:08]

AND SO FROM A SENIOR HIGH STANDPOINT, OUR EXISTING BUILDINGS WOULD NOT THEY'RE NOT BIG ENOUGH TO HOUSE THE ENTIRE FEEDER.

AND THEN IF YOU WERE TO LOOK AT JUST THE HIGH SCHOOLS, THE HIGH SCHOOLS ARE TOO SMALL TO HAVE REALLY A 9-12 CONCEPT.

WELL, AND IF YOU DID THAT, YOU'D HAVE TWO SMALL 9 THROUGH 12 AND ONE LARGE ON EACH CLUSTER.

AND THAT WOULD BE, YOU KNOW, JUST EQUITY AS FAR AS COMPETITION.

AND, YOU KNOW, THE, YOU KNOW, THE GPA STUFF AND THE GRADUATE.

LET ME JUMP IN THAT WE'RE GOING DOWN A MASSIVE BUNNY TRAIL THAT IS WAY BEYOND THE SCOPE OF WHAT THIS CONVERSATION IS.

SO LET'S GET BACK TO THE TOPIC AT HAND.

SO I'LL HELP US GET BACK TO THE TOPIC AT HAND.

THIS IS SOMETHING I HAVE WANTED SINCE MY DAUGHTER, I'LL SAY AGAIN, WAS A FRESHMAN AT VINES WHEN SHE WAS A JV ATHLETE WEARING MAROON, WALKING AROUND A CAMPUS WHERE THE OTHER ATHLETES, YOU KNOW, HALF THE ATHLETES WERE WEARING MAROON.

OTHER ATHLETES ARE WEARING PURPLE.

AND IT WAS A DISCONNECT.

SHE FELT WEIRD BEING THAT WAY, AND IT FELT WEIRD FOR HER TO BE THAT WAY.

BUT IT'S SO MUCH BIGGER THAN THAT.

I MEAN, OUR BANDS ALREADY HAVE THEIR TWILIGHT CONCERT.

THEY ARE ALREADY ALIGNED.

IT'S JUST THIS GETS BACK TO HOW WE CAN BRING UNITY IN OUR COMMUNITY AND BRING UNITY IN THE SCHOOLS.

AND I'LL JUST ADD THE 9-10 LEVEL IS JUST A DIFFERENT MINDSET.

11 AND 12 HAVE THERE OFF CAMPUS, BUT IT ALLOWS THAT FLUIDITY BETWEEN THE CAMPUSES.

I AM THRILLED AND I THINK THIS IS GOING TO BE SUCH A BONUS WAY BEYOND ATHLETICS.

SO I KNOW SOME PEOPLE COMPLAINED ABOUT, OH, THIS IS JUST FOCUSING ABOUT ATHLETICS IS SO MUCH BIGGER THAN ATHLETICS.

AND THEN I WILL SAY IT WAS SO FUN IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS TO HAVE CONVERSATIONS WITH PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY.

FOR ME TO BE ABLE TO COME AWAY AND SAY SOME GREAT THINGS ARE HAPPENING IN PLANO ISD AND LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THEM.

AND I TALKED TO STUDENTS, FORMER STUDENTS, I TALKED TO PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN LONG TIME PLANO PEOPLE WHO ARE VERY INVESTED IN THIS COMMUNITY AND EVERYONE IS SO ENTHUSIASTICALLY RECEIVED IT, SO EXCITED.

WHY HAVEN'T WE DONE THIS BEFORE NOW? AND THEN THE OTHER PIECE I WOULD SAY IS I APPRECIATE THE MEASUREDNESS AND UNROLLING THIS, BUT I THINK THERE'S GOING TO BE A LOT OF ENERGY TO TRY TO GET THIS TO GO AS FAST FROM PEOPLE THAT IT'S GOING TO GO FOR HOW QUICKLY CAN WE GET THIS GOING? SO I APPRECIATE EVERYONE DOING THIS AND I'M JUST GRATEFUL.

I HAD A COUPLE OF THINGS.

AND THE FIRST WAS ON THE SWIMMING.

I FEEL LIKE LAST SUMMER THEY WERE HAVING A REALLY HARD TIME FINDING LIFEGUARDS AT THE CITY POOLS.

AND SO I WONDER, AS YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT WATER POLO AND OTHER THINGS, IF THERE'S SOME COLLABORATION EFFORT AIMED AT HELPING OUR ECO DIS KIDS ACCESS SWIMMING, BUT THEN POTENTIALLY ALSO GET CERTIFIED AND BE EMPLOYABLE WITH THE CITY.

SO JUST THROWING THAT OUT THERE IS MAYBE SOME HOPE THAT THERE'S OPPORTUNITY THERE.

TWO QUESTIONS.

THE FIRST AND I YOU KNOW, YOU SAID THERE'S NO CHANGES IN FINE ARTS, BUT I'VE HAD SEVERAL BAND PARENTS ASK ME THIS, SO I'M GOING TO ASK EXPLICITLY ABOUT THIS BECAUSE IT'S MY UNDERSTANDING AND MY KIDS ARE ALL UNDER TEN.

SO THIS IS COMING FROM SEVERAL BAND PARENTS THAT HAVE ASKED ME THAT IT'S MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THERE ARE DIFFERENT NUMBER OF GAMES THAT THE 9-12 BANDS OR 9-10 BANDS MARCH THAN THE 11-12 BANDS.

AND SO THE 9-10 BANDS ARE GOING TO KEEP WITH THE SAME NUMBER OF GAMES AND THE SAME GAMES.

AND THE 11-12 BANDS ARE GOING TO KEEP WITH THE SAME NUMBER OF GAMES AND THE SAME SCHEDULE THAT JUST CONFIRMING THAT'S CORRECT.

THAT IS CORRECT. AND WHAT WE DO IN THE SPRING IS WE WILL ALL MEET AND WE WILL TAKE THE UPCOMING FOOTBALL SCHEDULE.

WE'LL LOOK AT ALL OF OUR 9, WE'LL PLUG IN ALL OF OUR NINTH GRADE GAMES, ALL OF OUR [INAUDIBLE] JV TWO GAMES, AND WE WILL TRY TO FIND THOSE OPPORTUNITIES FOR EACH BAND TO GET IS, YOU KNOW, IT'S BEEN AROUND FIVE YOU KNOW HOW MANY TIMES CAN WE GET THEM TO PLAY, WHETHER THAT BE AT A 9TH GRADE GAME OR WHETHER THAT BE THE JV TWO GAME.

THAT'S WHERE THE COLORS COME IN, BECAUSE IF THEY MARCH IT A NINTH GRADE GAME, THEY'RE MARCHING IN FRONT OF A PURPLE TEAM.

YOU KNOW, IF THEY MARCH AT A JV TWO GAME, THEY'RE IN MAROON OR THEY'RE IN BLACK AND GOLD.

AND SO WE GET ALL THIS LINED UP, THEN IT DOESN'T MATTER WHERE THEY'RE MARCHING, THEY'RE ALL WILDCATS OR PANTHERS OR WOLVES.

AND SO ALL THAT TO SAY, TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION, YES, YOU KNOW, WE BREAK THAT DOWN AND LOOK AND MAKE SURE WE TRY TO BE EVERY 9-10 HAS A CHANCE TO MARCH AT THOSE THURSDAY NIGHT GAMES.

PERFECT THE SPECIFIC.

SAME WITH THE VARSITY. YOU KNOW AND OBVIOUSLY THEY MARCH AT EVERY GAME.

SO YEAH THE SPECIFIC CONCERN WAS THE DIFFERENCE IN NUMBER OF GAMES AND YOU KNOW ACADEMICS AT THE 9-10 AND THAT.

[01:20:02]

THE SECOND QUESTION IS ON FACILITIES.

YOU KNOW WE HAVE SOME SCHOOLS AND THE ONE THAT COMES TO MIND IS HICKEY AND I KNOW IT'S ELEMENTARY BUT THAT THE FLOOR TILES ARE LIKE RED, WHITE AND BLUE AND THE BATHROOM TILES, I THINK ARE LIKE GREEN.

SO YOU CAN TELL THAT THE SCHOOL WAS RENOVATED AND AT TWO DIFFERENT TIMES AND THAT I DON'T KNOW WHICH ONE WAS DONE WHEN BUT WHEN YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT REDOING THE ATHLETIC FACILITIES AND REDOING ALL OF THE COLORS AND THEN PHASING THAT THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL.

IS THIS? THE INTENTION IS THIS TO BE A COMPLETE COLOR CHANGE AND NOT LEAVE A CAMPUS, YOU KNOW, WITH MULTIPLE DIFFERENT COLOR SCHEMES, RIGHT? THAT'S CORRECT. I MEAN, WE WANT TO DO IT RIGHT.

YOU KNOW, WE WANT THOSE COLORS TO MATCH.

I KNOW WALKING THE DIFFERENT CAMPUSES I SAID THIS LAST TIME, YOU KNOW, YOU HAVE SOME OF OUR 9-10S THAT ARE A LITTLE BIT NEWER OR JUST BEEN RENOVATED THAT ARE VERY AND WE DID THIS ON PURPOSE I'M SURE.

BUT THE COLORS ARE VERY, YOU KNOW, NEUTRAL, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN? AND THEY'RE VERY MODERN LOOKING.

THEY USE A LOT OF THE NEUTRAL COLORS.

AND SO THERE'S NOT A WHOLE LOT OF YOU KNOW, THERE'S NOT YOU'LL SEE SOME THINGS IN THE GYM, BUT IT'S NOT AS MUCH AS YOU WOULD THINK.

THERE WILL BE SOME TILE IN THE HALLWAY SOMETIMES.

THERE'S SOME, YOU KNOW, DIFFERENT TYPES OF MARKING A HALLWAY, MAYBE A STALLION, OR I SEE ONE OF OUR STALLIONS IN THE BACK THERE. AND I WALKED THIS CAMPUS WITH HIM AND WE HAVE A LOT OF STALLIONS, BUT MARK IN THE HALLWAYS.

AND SO BUT, YOU KNOW, SOME OF THE OLDER CAMPUSES THAT HAVEN'T BEEN TOUCHED AS MUCH LIKE VINES.

VINES HAS A LOT OF PURPLE AND IT'S THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL.

AND SO WE'RE JUST GOING TO HAVE TO REALLY GET WITH OUR FACILITIES TEAM AND DO AN ASSESSMENT.

AND REALLY, THOUGH WE'VE WALKED THEM, I MEAN, THESE GUYS ARE THE PROS AND SO WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO REALLY WALK THOSE AND COME UP WITH A PLAN AND WORK WITH THE PRINCIPAL AND LOOK AT IT. BUT YES, TO YOUR POINT, WE WANT TO DO IT ALL INCLUSIVE TO MATCH THOSE COLORS.

BUT THERE'S GOING TO BE SOME THINGS THAT ARE NEUTRAL THAT WE CAN LIVE WITH.

YOU KNOW, I DON'T WANT TO SPEAK FOR MY BOSSES, BUT I MEAN, THERE'S GOING TO BE SOME THINGS THAT SHOULD CROSS OVER BEAUTIFULLY.

AND WE WON'T HAVE TO YOU KNOW, IT'LL SO YOU KNOW, IT WON'T COST US MONEY.

BUT THE THINGS THAT DO WE NEED TO CHANGE.

ABSOLUTELY. YES, MA'AM.

GOT IT. THANKS. AND JUST THE LAST THING THAT'S A LITTLE BIT OF A COMMENT, YOU KNOW, PROBABLY SIMILAR TO JERI.

I FEEL LIKE WHEN I'VE BEEN OUT AND ABOUT IN THE COMMUNITY, EVERYBODY'S GIVING ME THEIR HOT SPORTS OPINIONS, YOU KNOW, ABOUT ABOUT THIS.

AND THE PARENTS WHO DID NOT GROW UP IN PLANO ARE LIKE, I DON'T EVEN UNDERSTAND WHY IT WAS THIS WAY IN THE FIRST PLACE.

THEY'RE VERY EXCITED FOR THE CHANGE.

THE LEGACY PARENTS, I THINK, HAD THE SAME GUT REACTION I DID THAT I WAS LIKE, BUT CLARK COUGARS, YOU KNOW, AND IT IT FELT VERY UNCOMFORTABLE.

BUT THEN AFTER HAVING SOME BACK AND FORTH AND SOME CONVERSATION AND GOING THROUGH THE IMPLICATIONS OF IT, IT WAS LIKE, OH, OKAY, YEAH, THIS MAKES SENSE, YOU KNOW, AND JUST SOME THOUGHTFULNESS.

AND I THINK THAT THE COMMUNICATION AND THE RATIONALE AND ALL OF THE WORK THAT YOU GUYS HAVE DONE HAS REALLY BEEN VERY, VERY HELPFUL TO KIND OF SETTLE THOSE OF US THAT GOT REACTION TO THIS MAYBE WAS UNCOMFORTABLE.

BUT, YOU KNOW, WE'RE VERY EXCITED TO SEE THE ALIGNMENT, SEE THE CHANGES, YOU KNOW, SEE OUR STUDENT ATHLETES HAVE BETTER PROGRAMS AND FLOURISH.

SO THANK YOU.

OTHER COMMENTS. BOARD MEMBERS.

OKAY. I HAVE A COUPLE.

YES.

YOU ON THE FRONT HALF ON THIS TOPIC.

I WANT TO GO BACK TO A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE FIRST PART.

BUT YEAH, GO AHEAD, BECAUSE I'VE GOT A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS.

IT'S TWO.

IT WAS KIND OF TWO PRESENTATIONS.

I WAS LOOKING AT YOU ONE POINT. CAN WE STOP AND ASK QUESTIONS HERE? YEAH. AND I GREATLY APPRECIATE YOU REPORTING THE SES OF THE ATHLETES AND I WOULD ASK THAT WE BEGIN TO DO THAT ON A REGULAR BASIS AND THAT ALSO FOR FINE ARTS TO SEE MAINLY IF THE PRE ATHLETICS IS GOING TO ALLOW FOR KIDS TO FEEL LIKE THEY HAVE MORE ACCESSIBILITY TO ATHLETICS THAN THEY HAD BECAUSE THEY HAD THAT SIXTH GRADE EXPERIENCE.

I'D LIKE TO SEE IF THERE'S A WAY FOR US TO BE ABLE TO FOLLOW THAT.

AND THEN ESPECIALLY AS A FORMER, YES, AS A FORMER CHEERLEADER SPONSOR, IT'S SCARY THAT THAT WAS TRUE.

BUT THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS FIRST YEAR TEACHERS AND KNOWING ABOUT CHEER, BECAUSE THAT'S ALSO WHEN THEY MAKE SURE THAT IT'S AN ACCESSIBLE SPORT FOR ALL STUDENTS TO BE ABLE TO DO. AND HOW CAN WE DO THAT? AND THE OTHER THING I HAVE TO SAY IS.

JUST BECAUSE A PGA IS LOCATED IN THE CITY OF FRISCO DOES NOT MEAN THE PGA DOES NOT WANT TO WORK WITH OTHER SCHOOL DISTRICTS.

SO I THINK IT WOULD BE REALLY A GREAT OPPORTUNITY.

YES, IT'S REALLY NICE THAT THERE'S A HIGH SCHOOL THAT LITERALLY BACKS UP TO THE GREENS OF THE PGA.

LUCKY THEM. BUT WHAT KIND OF RESOURCES CAN WE BE LEVERAGING BY HAVING A NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR GOLF IN OUR BACKYARD AND HOW WE CAN LEVERAGE THAT SO THAT ALL STUDENTS

[01:25:09]

CAN HAVE? THEY ARE VERY BIG ABOUT MAKING GOLF GOLF ACCESSIBLE TO ALL.

SO HOW CAN WE LEVERAGE THOSE RESOURCES TO MAKE IT ACCESSIBLE FOR OUR KIDS? SO I ACTUALLY THAT WAS KIND OF MY COMMENT WAS RELATIVE TO SAME ISSUE WITH SOME SPECIFIC SPORTS.

I THINK HAVING BEEN THROUGH THIS PERSONALLY WITH MY OWN CHILDREN, SOCCER, BASEBALL, SWIMMING, GOLF, THOSE ARE ALL CLUB DRIVEN SPORTS OR MONEY DRIVEN SPORTS THAT ARE HARD TO GET INTO IF YOU HAVE ECONOMIC PROBLEMS TO THE EXTENT WE CAN DRIVE THOSE.

ESPECIALLY SOCCER THAT TO ME IS LOW HANGING FRUIT TO DRIVE DOWN IN THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS.

YOU KNOW, I HEARD OVER AND OVER KIDS COMING THROUGH THAT.

LIKE, IF YOU'RE NOT PLAYING CLUB SOCCER WHEN YOU'RE 10, 12 YEARS OLD, YOU'RE NOT MAKING IT AT WEST OR AT SENIOR.

I MEAN, THEY HAVE REALLY GREAT PROGRAMS. TO THE EXTENT SOCCER IS LITERALLY THE MOST POPULAR SPORT ON THE FACE OF THE PLANET.

AND SO ALL YOU NEED IS A BALL AND TWO STICKS, RIGHT? SO IT'S NOT COST PROHIBITIVE TO LEARN HOW TO LOVE TO PLAY SOCCER.

SO TO THE EXTENT WE CAN DRIVE SOCCER DOWN TO THE MIDDLE SCHOOL, I THINK THAT'S FANTASTIC.

BASEBALL'S HARDER. YOU CAN'T DO BASEBALL UP THE MIDDLE SCHOOL.

BUT, YOU KNOW, TO THE EXTENT WE CAN EXPAND SWIMMING, I THINK, LAUREN, YOU HAD A GREAT IDEA THERE ABOUT IF WE CAN PARTNER WITH THE COPS GROUP TO PROVIDE LIFEGUARDS AND GET KIDS INTO SWIMMING, THAT'S GREAT.

AND THERE'S SOME OPPORTUNITIES THERE.

AND THEN THE OTHER THING I WAS GOING TO SAY IS I THINK YOU DROVE THIS HOME, JEFF, THAT YOU KNOW, WE'RE DOING THESE CHANGES OVER TIME.

SO IT'S GOING TO.

THERE ARE TWO ASPECTS OF THIS.

ONE IS PATIENCE OUR COMMUNITY IS GOING TO NEED TO BE PATIENT.

YOU KNOW, I WAS TALKING TO THERESA BEFORE THE MEETING.

I WAS LIKE, MAN, IT WOULD REALLY BE GREAT IF WE COULD EXPEDITE ALL THE GYMS AND GET ALL THE GYMS DONE THIS SUMMER.

AND SHE POINTED OUT, I THINK, AS JEFF POINTED IN HIS PRESENTATION, THAT GETS US OFF SCHEDULE IN TERMS OF GOING FORWARD.

RIGHT. SO AS IF YOU'RE REPLACING THE GYM FLOOR EVERY THREE YEARS OR VARNISH EVERY THREE YEARS, IF YOU DO THEM ALL AT THE SAME TIME, NOW YOU'RE DOING 6 EVERY THREE YEARS.

SO YOU'RE JUST GOING TO HAVE TO, I THINK OUR COMMUNITY'S GOING TO HAVE TO BE PATIENT AND REMEMBER THIS.

AND THEN FINALLY, JUST FOR THE BOARD AGAIN, AS A REMINDER, NOT AN ACTION ITEM, BUT CERTAINLY I THINK THE BOARD, THE STAFF AND THE ADMINISTRATION WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF YOU SUPPORT THIS ENDEAVOR OR IF YOU HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT THIS ENDEAVOR, NOW IS THE TIME TO RAISE THEM. I GUESS I HAD ONE OTHER QUESTION, AND YOU KIND OF BROUGHT IT UP TO MY MIND .

WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT SPORTS AND THE CAPACITY THAT WE HAVE TO OFFER SPOTS LIKE I THINK ABOUT VOLLEYBALL IS ONE OF THOSE.

IT'S A VERY HIGHLY COMPETITIVE.

IT'S HARD TO GET INTO AND A LOT OF KIDDOS END UP GOING TO CLUB SPORTS, WHICH THEY SPEND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO GET INTO.

SO I DON'T KNOW IF WE HAVE STAFFING ALLOCATIONS THAT LIMIT US ON THE CAPACITY TO OFFER THAT SPORT, BUT I JUST WONDER IF WE'VE LOOKED AT THAT AS FAR AS THOSE SPORTS WHERE YOU HAVE TO TRY OUT BECAUSE YOU SAID FOOTBALL, THEY DON'T HAVE CUTS, BUT SOME OF THE SPORTS DO.

AND I REMEMBER WHEN MY DAUGHTER WAS GOING FROM 10TH GRADE TO 11TH GRADE, THERE WERE 94 GIRLS TRYING OUT FOR DRILL TEAM AND THEY TOOK LIKE 40.

AND IT'S JUST SO COMPETITIVE.

SO I WONDERED IF WE IS IT COST REALLY IS THAT PROBABLY WHAT WE'RE DEALING WITH IS STAFFING ALLOCATIONS.

THAT'S A BIG PART. THAT'S A BIG PART OF IT.

JUST, YOU KNOW, I'LL BE HONEST, TOO, WE.

LET ME START WITH THE STAFFING.

YEAH. OBVIOUSLY, WE HAVE TO HAVE THE NUMBER OF COACHES TO COACH THE NUMBER OF TEAMS, WHICH MEANT LET ME TELL YOU, YOU GUYS, I MEAN, AS A COACH, THE CUT DAY THAT NOBODY WANTS TO CUT ANYONE.

THOSE THAT'S THE WORST.

AND THOSE ARE JUST TOUGH.

NO MATTER HOW YOU SLICE IT.

AND BUT YEAH TO ADD MORE TEAMS STAFFING COMES INTO PLAY A LITTLE BIT OR EVEN THEN WE'VE GOT TO FIND PEOPLE TO PLAY A LITTLE BIT.

WE HAVE A HARD TIME, BELIEVE IT OR NOT.

SOMETIMES WITH OUR JV 2 FINDING SCHOOLS THAT HAVE ONE, WE'RE BLESSED.

WE'VE GOT KIDS, WE'VE GOT JV TWO TEAMS. SO MANY TIMES WE'LL PLAY EACH OTHER.

WE FIND OTHER PEOPLE THAT ARE OUTSIDE OF OUR DISTRICT THAT HAVE A JV TEAM AND WE MAKE A SCHEDULE AND SO WE'RE LUCKY.

BUT YEAH, IT COMES DOWN TO SOME OF THOSE LOGISTICS, BUT STAFFING IS A BIG ONE FOR SURE.

I KNOW THOSE ARE TOUGH.

BUT WE LIKE YOU GUYS WE WANT TO JUST MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE IF WE CAN HAVE AN A, B AND C AT TIMES, OR IF THERE'S TIMES WE CAN HAVE AN EXTRA TEAM IN A CERTAIN SPORT, WE WANT TO LOOK AT THAT, YOU KNOW, IF WE CAN.

OKAY. AND DAVID, TO YOUR POINT, JEFF, I DO SUPPORT THIS.

[01:30:04]

THANKS. I'M SUPER SUPPORTIVE, TOO.

I MEAN, MY CONCERN, I THINK I TRIED TO PHRASE AS A QUESTION IS MAKING SURE THAT WE'RE NOT HALFWAY CHANGING COLORS IN SCHOOLS AND LEAVING SCHEMES, YOU KNOW, PURPLE AND MAROON, YOU KNOW, OR HAVING LIKE WEIRD PURPLE SPOTS OR WHATEVER AT VINES, LIKE THAT'S KIND OF MY CONCERN.

BUT I'M EXCITED ABOUT THIS.

I THINK THIS IS GREAT. I WANT TO SAY I'M SUPPORTIVE OF THAT AS WELL.

I MEAN, ANYTHING THAT CAN GIVE KIDS MORE OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY SPORTS, ESPECIALLY IN MIDDLE SCHOOL SOCCER, I THINK I WISH KIDS CAN HAVE ELEMENTARY SOCCER.

IT'S LIKE A REALLY SO EASY TO DO, LIKE DAVID SAID, LIKE IT'S SO MUCH FUN.

AND ALSO THE MONEY PART.

I LIKE IT, TOO. LIKE YOU DO IT SLOWLY, YOU ROTATE.

[LAUGHTER] YOU JUST MONEY ALREADY BUDGETED.

I MEAN, THAT'S AWESOME.

THANK YOU. WELL, THANKS YOU ALL.

THIS IS IT'S BEEN A LONG.

I KNOW YOU'VE BEEN A LONG.

IT'S BEEN MORE THAN A MONTH.

YOU'VE BEEN WORKING ON THIS FOR THREE YEARS, JEFF.

AND WE APPRECIATE ALL YOUR EFFORTS THERE, SO FUN.

GOOD TIMES. I THINK IT'S GOING TO BE GREAT FOR OUR SCHOOLS AND OUR COMMUNITIES REALLY TO GIVE EVERYBODY A SENSE OF COMMUNITY.

AT THE 9-12 CAMPUSES, 9-10 AND 11-12 CAMPUSES.

ALL RIGHT. THANKS, JEFF.

9:50 NOT BAD. YOU GET TO GO HOME.

ALL RIGHT. MOVING ON, THEN, 8.2.

[8.2 Peer Staffing Review]

OUR NEXT REPORT IS A PEER STAFFING REPORT.

WE DO THIS ON AN ANNUAL BASIS AS WE GEAR UP TOWARDS BUDGET.

AND JOHNNY, I THINK YOU'RE GOING TO LEAD US OFF.

WELL, DR. ANDERSON AND COACH SMITH, GREAT JOB.

IT'S I HATE TO FOLLOW YOU GUYS.

THAT'S REALLY GOOD INFORMATION.

I KNOW ALL THE WORK THAT'S GONE BEHIND THE SCENES.

SO THANK YOU ALL FOR THAT.

IT IS IMPORTANT, THOUGH, THAT WE DO TALK ABOUT MONEY, TALK ABOUT BUDGET, TALK ABOUT BENCHMARKING.

AND SO THAT'S I WANT TO TALK JUST A LITTLE BIT.

I'LL BE BRIEF.

THIS IS SOMETHING WE DO EVERY YEAR, AND I THINK IT IS IMPORTANT.

ONE OF OUR STRATEGIC PILLARS, OF COURSE, IS RESOURCE MANAGEMENT.

AND ONE OF THE GOALS WITHIN THE RESOURCE MANAGEMENT TALKS ABOUT BENCHMARKING, COMPARING OURSELVES.

AND ALTHOUGH I CAN SEE SOME PROS AND CONS WITH SOME OF THIS INFORMATION BECAUSE IT IS DATED, HOW WE ACTUALLY RETRIEVE IT, I THINK IT STILL HAS A LOT OF VALUE.

SO AS I GO THROUGH THIS PRESENTATION, THERE'S NOT A WHOLE LOT OF SLIDES.

PLEASE STOP ME AND ASK ME QUESTIONS AS WE GO THROUGH THIS IF YOU IF YOU HAVE ANY, I WANT TO MAKE SURE YOU'RE COMPLETELY COMFORTABLE AS WE GO THROUGH THIS.

SO HOPEFULLY YOU CAN ALL SEE THAT.

WE'RE GOING TO LOOK AT IT WHEN WE TALK ABOUT BENCHMARKING.

WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT TWO DIFFERENT GROUPS.

WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT A DFW PEER GROUP.

THOSE ARE DISTRICTS THAT WE COMPARE OURSELVES TO JUST IN THE GREATER DFW AREA.

AND YOU CAN SEE WHAT THOSE DISTRICTS ARE.

CARLTON'S FARMERS BRANCH, FRISCO, GARLAND, IRVING, LEWISVILLE, MESQUITE, US, AND THEN RICHARDSON.

AND HOW DID I COME UP WITH THESE? WE'VE TRIED TO BE CONSISTENT SO WE COULD ACTUALLY LOOK AT HISTORICAL DATA.

SO THESE ARE THE DISTRICTS THAT WE HAVE CONSIDERED PEER DISTRICTS FOR LONG BEFORE I GOT HERE.

WE ALSO HAVE SOME STATEWIDE PEER GROUPS.

THESE ARE ACROSS THE STATE DISTRICTS THAT ARE SIMILAR IN SIZE BUT ALSO IN SIMILAR AND DEMOGRAPHIC MAKEUP AS WE ARE.

AND SO YOU CAN SEE THAT GROUP AS WELL.

THAT'S WHEN YOU LOOK AT STATEWIDE PEER GROUPS.

THAT'S WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT.

CLEAR CREEK, CONROE, HUMBLE, LEWISVILLE, AGAIN, MANSFIELD, AND THEN US OURSELVES.

AND THEN ONE OF THE CLOSEST DISTRICTS THAT ARE LIKE US IS ROUND ROCK RIGHT OUTSIDE OF AUSTIN, TEXAS.

SO OBVIOUSLY, WE TALK A LOT ABOUT THIS WHEN WE'RE TALKING ABOUT BUDGETS, AND THIS IS OUR ENROLLMENT BY GRADE LEVEL.

AND ONE THING THAT YOU'LL NOTICE IS THE BAR GRAPHS ON THE RIGHT ARE A LOT HIGHER THAN THE GRAPHS ON THE LEFT.

AND SO WE TALK ABOUT WE'RE LOSING ENROLLMENT.

AND IT'S NOT THAT WE HAVE FAMILIES MOVING OUR DISTRICTS.

IT'S HAVING IT MEANS THAT WE'RE HAVING FAMILIES THAT ARE AGING OUT OF OUR DISTRICT.

SO OBVIOUSLY, ON JUST AN AVERAGE YEAR OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS, WE'VE HAD ABOUT 4,000 STUDENTS GRADUATE FROM 12TH GRADE AND WE HAVE JUST A LITTLE OVER 3,000 KIDS THAT ARE COMING INTO OUR KINDERGARTEN.

SO OBVIOUSLY WE LOSE TO THAT ACTUAL SHIFT, THAT TURNOVER.

WE LOSE ABOUT 1000 KIDS A YEAR.

AND IF YOU SAW JUST THIS YEAR, LAST YEAR TO THIS YEAR, WE END UP LOSING A NET OF LITTLE LESS THAN 500 KIDS, WHICH MEANS WE ACTUALLY ARE STILL HAVING FAMILIES MOVING INTO OUR AREA. I HOPE THAT MAKES SENSE.

THIS IS ALSO TREND ANALYSIS.

THIS IS JUST OVER THE LAST SIX, SEVEN YEARS.

YOU CAN ACTUALLY SEE AS WE SHRINK OUR ENROLLMENT SLIGHTLY FROM 2017 TO 2022, YOU CAN ACTUALLY SEE SOME OF THESE SPECIAL DEMOGRAPHICS WITHIN OUR BAR GRAPHS.

YOU'VE GOT SPECIAL EDUCATION WHENEVER IT SAYS 22.

ONE THING I DO WANT TO TALK ABOUT, THAT'S 21-22.

THAT'S OUR CALENDAR YEAR, 21-22, WHICH IS THE YEAR WE'VE.

SO THESE BAR GRAPHS ARE COMPLETE DATA, THEY'RE ACTUALS.

[01:35:03]

AND SO YOU SEE SPECIAL ED ENROLLMENT AND HOW WE'VE INCREASED JUST SLIGHTLY.

BUT YOU CAN ALSO SEE OUR ELL STATUS AND HOW THAT'S ACTUALLY TAKEN OFF.

AND THEN ECONOMIC STATUS AT THE VERY TOP, YOU CAN SEE THOSE PERCENTAGES AND WHAT THEY'VE DONE OVER THAT TIME FRAME.

SO THIS IS SPENDING COMPARED TO THE STATE.

YOU SEE PERCENTAGES AND THEN YOU SEE ACTUAL WHOLE DOLLARS.

I WANT TO POINT OUT THIS IS OFF OF THE TAPR.

DR. NASH CAME LAST WEEK OR LAST MONTH AND ACTUALLY TALKED TO WE TALKED A LITTLE BIT ABOUT OUR TAPR.

SO THIS IS BEING PULLED OFF OUR TAPR DATA.

THERE'S A COMPANY THAT WE CONTRACT WITH CALLED FORECAST FIVE, AND THAT'S KIND OF WHAT THEY DO.

SO WE'RE ACTUALLY PULLING THESE REPORTS OFF OF THEIR DATA, BUT THEY DOWNLOAD THEIR DATA ONLY AT CERTAIN TIMES OF THE YEAR.

AND SO WHEN YOU LOOK AT FINANCIAL INFORMATION, THIS IS ACTUALLY COMING.

IT'S A LITTLE DATED. WHEN I SAID PROS AND CONS, THE FINANCIAL DATA IS FROM THE 2021 FISCAL YEAR.

WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT STAFFING ALLOCATIONS, THAT'S 21-22.

THAT'S WHAT'S GOING INTO THAT TAPR INFORMATION.

IT'S JUST THIS QUICK AS THEY CAN ACTUALLY GET THEIR HANDS ON IT.

I HOPE THAT MAKES SENSE.

I THINK IT'S STILL RELEVANT BECAUSE I THINK YOU CAN SEE SOME NICE TRENDS.

BUT IF YOU LOOK AT THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THIS SLIDE, YOU CAN SEE WHAT REALLY JUMPS OUT AT YOU IS A COMPENSATION.

YOU CAN SEE WE'RE OVER 87% OF OUR BUDGET.

AND THESE ARE LOCAL, JUST THE LOCAL FUNDS.

NOT ALL FUNDS IT'S LOCAL FUNDS.

YOU CAN SEE THAT WE'RE OVER 87% COMPENSATION COMPARED TO THE STATES, ABOUT 83%.

I HOPE THAT MAKES SENSE BECAUSE MOST OF THE DISTRICTS IN THE STATE ARE RURAL DISTRICTS AND THEY DON'T COMPETE.

THEY DON'T HAVE THE COMPETITION WE HAVE FOR OUR TEACHING STAFF AND ALL OF OUR STAFF, TO BE HONEST WITH YOU.

AS A RESULT, IF YOU LOOK ACROSS THE STATE, ACTUALLY HOUSTON ISD THE AREA PAYS THE HIGHEST FOR TEACHERS AND THE NORTH TEXAS IS ACTUALLY NUMBER TWO.

WE'RE SECOND. AND HOW MUCH WE PAY.

WHY IS THAT? BECAUSE WE HAVE COMPETITION.

AND SO THAT'S WHY YOU SEE A HIGHER PERCENTAGE OF OUR BUDGET GOING TOWARD COMPENSATION.

WE HAVE TO HAVE THAT TO RETAIN THE QUALITY STAFF.

IF YOU LOOK AT THE RIGHT HAND SIDE, YOU CAN SEE HOW MANY DOLLARS THAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT.

AND I HOPE YOU ALL CAN READ THAT.

I'M HAVING A HARD TIME READING THAT.

BUT IF YOU LOOK AT THE VERY TOP OF THAT BAR GRAPH, YOU COULD SEE WHAT WE SPEND.

I DO WANT TO TALK. THIS DOES NOT, THIS IS JUST THE GENERAL OPERATING FUND, BUT IT DOES NOT INCLUDE FUNCTION 71, WHICH IS DEBT OR 81, WHICH IS CAPITAL EXPENSES OR 91, WHICH IS RECAPTURE.

SO THIS IS NET OF THOSE EXPENSES.

SO THAT'S HOW MUCH WE'RE SPENDING PER STUDENT.

AND WE'RE RIGHT ON THE AVERAGE WITH THE STATE.

RIGHT ON THE AVERAGE WITH THE STATE.

SO THIS IS A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT.

THIS IS SPENDING PER STUDENT.

THIS IS JUST IN THAT DFW COMPARISON GROUP, THAT PEER GROUP.

YOU CAN SEE THAT THE DOLLARS GO UP SLIGHTLY.

WHY IS THAT? IT'S BECAUSE THIS IS NOT A GENERAL OPERATING FUND.

THIS IS ALL FUNDS.

ALL FUNDS, BUT EXCLUDING, ONCE AGAIN, FUNCTION 71, WHICH IS DEBT PAYMENTS, 81 WHICH IS CAPITAL PROJECTS, CAPITAL PROJECTS FUND AND THEN 91, WHICH IS RECAPTURE.

SO IT'S AN APPLES TO APPLES.

OBVIOUSLY, THERE'S ONLY ABOUT 15% OF THE DISTRICTS THAT PAY FUNCTION 91 WHICH IS RECAPTURE.

THAT'S ONE OF THE REASONS WHY THEY TAKE IT OUT.

NOT EVERYONE HAS A CURRENT BOND OR CAPITAL PROJECTS FUND GOING ON.

THAT'S WHY THEY TAKE THAT OUT.

AND SO THAT'S MORE IT'S JUST LIKE AN APPLES TO APPLES COMPARISON.

YOU CAN SAY THAT WE ACTUALLY RATE PRETTY WELL WITH OUR DFW AREA.

OK ON HOW MUCH WE SPEND PER STUDENT.

WELL, I SHOULDN'T SAY WHEN I SAY WELL, IT'S YOUR IT'S A MATTER OF PERSPECTIVE, BUT I THINK WE'RE EFFICIENT WITH HOW WE SPEND OUR MONEY.

I SHOULD SAY THAT.

A LOT OF PEOPLE WANT TO SPEND MORE. I MEAN, TO BE HONEST WITH YOU, IT DEPENDS ON YOUR LENS THAT YOU'RE LOOKING THROUGH.

BUT WE ARE EFFICIENT WITH HOW WE SPEND OUR MONEY, I'LL PUT IT THAT WAY.

AND THEN, OF COURSE, THIS IS HOW WE COMPARE ACROSS THE STATE.

ONCE AGAIN, YOU CAN LOOK AT THE DISTRICTS AND IF YOU JUST REMEMBER BACK, 87% OF OUR BUDGET, GENERAL OPERATING BUDGET IS REMEMBER, IT'S COMPENSATION.

AND I SAID A WHILE AGO, WHAT'S THE LARGEST AMOUNT OF COMPENSATION THAT PAYS THE HIGHEST IN THE STATE? HOUSTON AREA. SO YOU CAN LOOK AT HUMBLE AND CLEAR CREEK THERE AT THE TOP.

AND THEN AS YOU GO DOWN, YOU CAN LOOK AT SOME OF THESE OTHER AREAS THAT DON'T PAY QUITE AS MUCH.

AUSTIN AREA, THEY'RE ALL PRETTY CLOSE, THOUGH.

SO LET'S TALK ABOUT JUST A ROLE ID.

SO WHENEVER WE GET THE WE'RE ACTUALLY TALKING ABOUT WHERE THIS INFORMATION, THE TAPR OR WHERE IT'S COMING FROM.

THESE ARE IN THE FALL OF EACH YEAR THAT INFORMATION ON THE WE CALL IT THE FALL PEIMS SUBMISSION.

THESE ARE ACTUAL PEOPLE THAT ARE IN THESE POSITIONS.

WE CALL THEM ROLE ID'S.

THAT'S BEEN TURNED INTO THE FALL PEIMS SUBMISSION.

SO THAT'S WHERE THEY'RE GETTING THAT INFORMATION.

SO IN THE FALL OF 21, 22, WHICH IS OCTOBER OF 21, THIS IS THE TOTAL FTES THAT IT WAS TURNED INTO THE STATE FOR PLANO ISD.

[01:40:01]

HOW DO WE COMPARE ACROSS THE DFW PEER GROUP? THESE ARE TEACHERS TO STUDENTS.

YOU CAN SEE THAT WE ACTUALLY COMPARE VERY FAVORABLY AS FAR AS WE HAVE LOW RATIOS.

IN OTHER WORDS, WE HAVE A LOW RATIOS IF YOU COMPARE TEACHERS TO STUDENTS.

IF YOU LOOK AND SEE HOW WE COMPARE ACROSS THE ENTIRE STATE.

YOU CAN SAY THAT THE BOTTOM THREE ROUND ROCK, LEWISVILLE, PLANO.

THOSE ARE DISTRICTS THAT ARE VERY, VERY THE CLOSEST ALIGNED TO US.

AND YOU SEE THAT WE'RE WE HAVE LOW RATIOS.

LET'S LOOK AT A COUNSELOR'S TOTAL FTE'S AND OUR COUNSELORS, 21-22 WAS 159.

AND YOU CAN SEE JUST SO YOU'LL KNOW, THIS IS IN THE FALL OF 21, THE LAST FRIDAY IN OCTOBER OF 21.

YOU CAN SEE HOW MANY COUNSELORS TO STUDENT RATIO THAT WE HAD AND HOW WE COMPARE.

THE AVERAGE WAS BASICALLY ONE COUNSELOR FOR EVERY 355 STUDENTS AND WE'RE AT 310.7.

AND THEN HOW WE COMPARE WITH THE STATE.

WE HAVE RELATIVELY SMALL RATIOS WITH THOSE AS WELL.

OK. NURSES 71.25 IS WHAT OUR FTE WAS.

YOU CAN SEE THIS IS WE'RE MOVING THE NEEDLE OVER TO THE MIDDLE A LITTLE BIT MORE WE ARE MORE AVERAGE WITH OUR PEER GROUPS IN THE DFW AREA.

THE AVERAGE IS 719 FOR NURSE AND WE ARE AT 693 PER NURSE.

AND THEN STATE WIDE, WE'RE A LITTLE BIT MORE TO THE RIGHT.

IF I'M GOING TOO FAST, PLEASE STOP ME.

BUT I'M JUST. I'M GOING CLIPPING THROUGH IT.

EDUCATIONAL AIDS.

YOU CAN SEE TOTAL EDUCATIONAL AIDES THAT WE HAVE IS 627.67.

AND YOU CAN SEE WHAT OUR RATIOS STILL I MEAN WE HAVE VERY FAVORABLE RATIOS EVEN WITH OUR PARAPROFESSIONALS.

YOU CAN SEE HOW WE COMPARE STATEWIDE.

PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT.

THESE ARE POSITIONS THAT ARE NOT CONSIDERED CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION.

BUT THEY STILL GO OUT AND SUPPORT IN A PROFESSIONAL ROLE THE DISTRICT.

THESE ARE LIKE YOUR ACADEMIC SERVICES, THE FOLKS THAT WORK IN THAT DEPARTMENT.

OKAY. YOU CAN SEE THAT WE'RE QUITE A BIT MORE ON THE LEFT WHEN IT COMES TO PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT FOR PER STUDENT.

AND THEN HOW WE COMPARE ON THE STATE.

CAMPUS ADMINISTRATION.

WE HAVE 184.68.

YOU CAN ACTUALLY SEE HOW WE COMPARE.

WE'RE AT PRETTY MUCH RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE WITH OUR DFW GROUP.

AND THEN WE IF YOU LOOK AT US IN THE STATE, WE'RE PRETTY FAVORABLE.

CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION.

THIS ONE STUMPED ME.

AND SO I WANT TO TALK A LITTLE BIT DEEPER ABOUT THIS ONE.

AND BEFORE I SHOW YOU A SLIDE, LET ME JUST SAY THAT ON CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION, THE WAY YOU TURN IN THAT INFORMATION ON YOUR FALL PEIMS SUBMISSION, IF YOU GO BACK TO WHAT'S CALLED THE, TEA HAS WHAT THEY CALL AN ATTENDANCE ACCOUNTING HANDBOOK THAT ACTUALLY SHOWS YOU HOW YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE TURNING IN AND REPORTING THAT.

BUT WHEN IT COMES TO CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION, IT'S NOT ALL CREATED EQUAL.

AND A LOT OF THESE POSITIONS, DEPENDING ON WHERE THEY'RE HOUSED AND WHAT THE DESCRIPTION OF THAT POSITION IS, DETERMINES ON HOW YOU REPORT IT.

YOU REPORT IT UNDER CAMPUS ADMINISTRATION OR PROFESSIONAL SERVICES OR PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT OR CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION.

I THOUGHT ABOUT LEAVING THIS ENTIRE CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION OUT, BUT I THOUGHT I WOULD BE CALLED ON THE CARPET FOR NOT BEING TRANSPARENT.

SO I'M GOING TO SHOW IT AND THEN I'LL TRY TO EXPLAIN IT.

IS THAT FAIR ENOUGH, EVERYBODY? SO I WANT TO MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND IT.

SO OBVIOUSLY, THIS IS BASICALLY EVERY CENTRAL ADMINISTRATOR AND HOW WE COMPARE PER STUDENT.

AND YOU CAN SEE WE COMPARE RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE FOR EVERY CENTRAL ADMINISTRATOR AND SOME DISTRICTS.

I MEAN, I'VE WORKED AT ENOUGH DISTRICTS THAT WE ALL EVEN SOME OF THE DISTRICTS THAT I'VE WORKED AT, WE'VE TREATED IT A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT.

SOME PEOPLE SAY, OKAY, IF THAT PERSON IS HOUSED IN THE CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION BUILDING, THEY BELONG THEY SHOULD BE CODED A ROLE ID OF CENTRAL ADMINISTRATOR.

IF THEY'RE SITTING AT ANOTHER CAMPUS OR SITTING AT ANOTHER AUXILIARY BUILDING, THEY'RE NOT CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION.

SO AND THEN SO IT'S KIND OF IT'S KIND OF WEIRD.

AND IF YOU LOOK AT THE ATTENDANCE ACCOUNTING HANDBOOK, I WENT BACK AND LOOKED AT IT TODAY BECAUSE I HAVEN'T LOOKED AT IT IN SEVERAL YEARS.

IT ACTUALLY SPELLS OUT YOU CAN DO THIS OR THIS, AND IT'S THE ONLY ONE I MEAN A TEACHER IS A TEACHER ANYWHERE YOU GO.

AND A LOT OF THESE ARE THERE THAT POSITION, CAMPUS ADMINISTRATOR, A CAMPUS ADMINISTRATOR IS NO MATTER WHERE YOU GO.

[01:45:01]

BUT CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION IS A LITTLE MORE SUBJECTIVE.

I DO WANT TO POINT OUT THAT IF YOU GO AND LOOK, THERE'S TWO DISTRICTS THAT STAND OUT LIKE, WOW, THAT CAN'T BE RIGHT.

GARLAND ISD AND MESQUITE ISD HAS IF YOU LOOK AT GARLAND AND YOU SAY, OKAY, THAT'S ONE CENTRAL ADMINISTRATOR TO EVERY 1300 KIDS.

AND SO I JUST I WANTED TO GO BACK AND LOOK A LITTLE BIT MORE.

IT'S THE WAY THEY'RE TURNING IN THEIR NUMBERS.

AND I CAN PROVE THAT UP BY IF YOU LOOK AT THE STAR AT THE BOTTOM.

SO THIS IS BY HOW YOU TURN IT IN ON THE ROLE ID IT'S NOT AUDITED.

THIS INFORMATION IS NOT AUDITED.

BUT IF YOU GO BACK AND HOW YOU ACTUALLY DO YOUR FINANCES ON FUNCTION 41, WHICH IS CENTRAL TO HOW YOU SPEND YOUR MONEY FOR CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION, THAT'S FUNCTION 41 AND THAT IS AUDITED. AND THAT NOT ONLY IS IT AUDITED, IT'S ACTUALLY REPORTED OUT ON YOUR FIRST REPORT.

AND SO IF YOU GO BACK TO YOUR FIRST REPORT AND YOU LOOK AT THE TWO DISTRICTS THAT ARE ON THE LEFT, LET'S JUST USE GARLAND ISD, I'M NOT TRYING TO PICK ON THEM.

AND THEY HAVE OPTIONS ON HOW THEY REPORT IT.

SO I'M NOT I'M NOT CALLING ANYBODY OUT ON THE CARPET ON THIS.

IT'S HOW THEY CHOOSE TO REPORT THAT DATA.

BUT IF YOU LOOK AT WHAT THEY HAVE ON THEIR FIRST INDICATOR ON THE ADMINISTRATIVE COST WORKSHEET OR RATIO, YOU CAN ACTUALLY SEE THAT OUR RATIO, WHICH IS SIMPLY OUR CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION EXPENSES, WHICH IS AUDITED COMPARED WITH OUR INSTRUCTION, WE'RE AT 4.43%.

NOW THE STATE SAYS YOU HAVE A PERFECT SCORE IF YOU'RE UNDER 8.5, THEN YOU GET A FULL COMPLEMENT OF POINTS FOR THAT INDICATOR.

BUT WE'RE AT HALF OF WHAT'S ALLOWED AT 4.43.

IF YOU LOOK AT GARLAND ISD THEY'RE AT 7.13.

THERE I MEAN, THAT'S NOT TWICE, BUT THAT'S GETTING CLOSE TO TWICE AS HIGH.

SO IF THEY ONLY HAVE ONE CENTRAL ADMINISTRATOR FOR EVERY 1300 KIDS, THEY'RE PAYING THOSE GUYS A LOT OF MONEY BECAUSE THEY'RE SPENDING ALMOST TWICE AS MUCH ON CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION COMPARED WITH INSTRUCTION AS WHAT WE ARE.

DOES THAT MAKE SENSE? SO WHENEVER I SAY IT'S AN OUTLIER, THAT'S IT'S HOW THEY'RE REPORTING THE DATA.

AND I DIDN'T WANT ANYBODY TO LOOK AT THIS INFORMATION AND TAKE IT OUT OF CONTEXT.

CAN I ASK A QUESTION JUST REAL FAST HERE TOO FOR CLARIFICATION.

SURE. WE DID AN EFFICIENCY AUDIT BEFORE THE VATRE, AND I SEEM TO REMEMBER THAT THERE WAS ALSO THIS KIND OF DATA IN THAT IN ADDITION TO THE FIRST REPORT, BUT IN THAT EFFICIENCY AUDIT, IN TERMS OF EFFICIENCY AUDIT, IN TERMS OF OUR ADMINISTRATIVE COST PER STUDENT COMPARED TO PEER DISTRICTS, AND IT LOOKED VERY DIFFERENT THAN THIS.

YES. AND THAT'S STILL ON OUR WEBSITE.

IT IS IF YOU IF YOU GO AND LOOK AT UNDER EFFICIENCY AUDIT, WE ACTUALLY CAME OUT EXTREMELY.

I WAS VERY PLEASED WITH THE WAY OUR EFFICIENCY AUDIT CAME OUT WITH THE EXCEPTION OF UNRESTRICTED FUND BALANCE WE HAD RESTRICTED A BUNCH OF IT AND I DIDN'T THINK THE WAY THEY ACTUALLY WERE REPORTING WAS ENTIRELY ACCURATE.

BUT EVERYTHING ELSE THEY REPORTED OUT WAS REALLY, REALLY GOOD.

BUT I JUST WANTED TO POINT THAT OUT.

I DON'T WANT TO HUNKER DOWN ON THIS OR MAKE A BIG DEAL OF IT, BUT I DON'T WANT IT TO BE TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT.

I WANT TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE'S COMFORTABLE WITH THAT INFORMATION.

WE STILL COMPARE RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE, EVEN WITH CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION.

IF YOU LOOK AT OUR ADMINISTRATIVE COST RATIO, OUR FIRST REPORT INDICATED 13, WE'RE DOING REALLY, REALLY GOOD WITH HOW MUCH WE SPEND ON CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION VERSUS INSTRUCTION, WHICH I THINK IS REALLY, REALLY GOOD.

AND THEN HOW WE COMPARE STATEWIDE.

ESPECIALLY, I THINK THIS IS THE LAST ONE AND WE TALK ABOUT THIS QUITE A BIT.

AND SO IF YOU CAN LOOK AND SEE, WE'RE DOING IT BETTER.

THIS IS 21, 22, AND WE'VE MADE A CONCERTED EFFORT OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS TO TRY TO GET THOSE RATIOS A LITTLE BIT MORE IN LINE.

BUT WE ARE STILL A, WE ARE A DESTINATION DISTRICT FOR SPECIAL NEEDS.

WE JUST ARE. THEY COME HERE BECAUSE WE GIVE THEM GREAT SERVICE AND WE HAVE RELATIVELY SMALL RATIOS.

SO THIS WAS IF YOU LOOK AT THIS, LET ME GO BACK.

WE HAVE THIS WAS THE FALL OF 21.

WE HAD 1,357 FTES.

AND I DO WANT TO SAY BECAUSE I ASKED HR THIS AFTERNOON, I WANT TO SAY BECAUSE WE DO HAVE A LOT OF VACANCIES IN THIS AREA.

AND I DO WANT TO TALK ABOUT THAT.

AND WHAT DOES THAT DO TO US? I WILL SAY THAT WE AS OF RIGHT NOW AND YOU SAW A WHILE AGO 1357 IS WHAT WE HAD IN THE FALL OF 21, RIGHT NOW WE HAVE ABOUT 1249 ACTUAL TOTAL SPECIAL ED STAFFING THAT'S ACTUALLY COMING TO WORK EVERY DAY AND WORKING.

IT'S ALMOST 100 LESS THAN WHAT WE HAD THIS TIME LAST YEAR, MAINLY BECAUSE OF THE VACANCIES.

WHAT DOES THAT DO TO YOUR RATIO? IT TAKES US FROM 4.6 TO ABOUT 4.9.

IF YOU ACTUALLY JUST DID THE COMPARISON BECAUSE OF WE'RE HAVING IT.

I WILL SAY WE HAVE A LOT OF THESE FILLED WITH SUBSTITUTES, BUT THIS IS ACTUAL STAFF THAT WE HAVE HIRED.

DOES THAT MAKE SENSE TO EVERYBODY? I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE'S COMFORTABLE WITH THAT.

THIS IS AT A POINT THAT WE'RE ACTUALLY WORKING ON REALLY HARD ON AS WELL WITH STAFFING.

AND [INAUDIBLE] IN SPECIAL ED HAS DONE A REALLY, REALLY GOOD JOB WITH THIS.

[01:50:03]

AND THEN HOW WE COMPARE WITH THE STATE.

YOU CAN SEE THAT WE'RE ACTUALLY MORE IN THE MIDDLE IF YOU TAKE OUT THE VACANCIES AS WHAT WE HAVE RIGHT NOW, ONCE AGAIN, NOT THE 1357 WE'RE SITTING WITH ABOUT 1,249 RIGHT NOW.

ALL RIGHT. THAT IS THAT'S THE REPORT.

I HOPE I DIDN'T TAKE TOO MUCH TIME.

I DO THINK THIS IS I MEAN, THIS IS ONE OF OUR STRATEGIC GOALS.

AND I THINK IT'S VERY IMPORTANT THAT WE CONTINUE TO BENCHMARK TO SEE HOW WE CAN MAKE THE ADJUSTMENTS TO BE MORE EFFICIENT AND BE ABLE TO TAKE THE RESOURCES WE HAVE AND APPLY IT TO WHAT'S MOST WHAT'S THE BIGGEST PRIORITIES FOR OUR DISTRICT.

ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS THAT I CAN ANSWER FOR ANYBODY? ALL RIGHT. THANK Y'ALL.

THANK YOU, JOHNNY.

AND YOU TAKE ALL THE TIME YOU NEED.

BUT THAT ONE WAS MOST EFFICIENT.

THANK YOU. MOVING ON NOW TO 8.3 COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT UPDATE.

[8.3 Communications Department Update]

I THINK LESLEY RANGE-STANTON IS GOING TO COME UP TO PRESENT.

LESLEY. THANK YOU, PRESIDENT STOLLE, AND GOOD EVENING, BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

I THINK I'M THE LAST PRESENTATION TONIGHT BEFORE POLICY, SO I'M GOING TO TRY TO DO THIS PRETTY FAST.

I CAME TO YOU GUYS IN SEPTEMBER WITH A COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT UPDATE.

SO THIS IS JUST A NEW UPDATE TO TALK ABOUT SOME OF THE THINGS THAT WE WERE INTRODUCING AT THAT TIME, AS WELL AS MAYBE ADDING A FEW NEW THINGS THAT WE'RE WORKING ON FOR THIS SEMESTER.

OUR FIRST SLIDE HERE COVERS THE DISTRICT SERVICES THAT THE COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT OFFERS.

NOTHING MUCH HAS CHANGED THERE.

THOSE ARE ALL THE THINGS THAT WE ARE OFFERING YEAR ROUND.

FOR THIS SEMESTER AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR, WE INTRODUCED SOME OF OUR FOCUS PRIORITIES DURING THAT FIRST SEMESTER, AND TONIGHT I WANT TO PROVIDE AN UPDATE ON A FEW ADDITIONAL THINGS.

I DO WANT TO TAKE A MINUTE BECAUSE I THINK I STILL HAVE A FEW TEAM MEMBERS WHO ARE STILL HERE IN THE AUDIENCE TONIGHT JUST TO SAY HI AND THAT THEY'RE HERE.

YOU SAW A LOT OF FOLKS EARLIER WHO HAVE ALREADY GONE HOME WHO HELPED OUT WITH THE RECOGNITIONS AND PUBLIC COMMENT.

SO YOU GUYS KNOW GLORIANE FERNANDEZ WITH PUBLIC COMMENT AND POLICY.

LAN HARDY, OUR SPECIALIST, WAS HERE, MITCHELL JACKSON WAS HERE TAKING PICTURES.

OUR DIRECTORS ARE LEFT BEHIND THIS EVENING.

WE'VE GOT SHAUNA KOEHNE IN THE BACK, COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR, A BRAND NEW BRAND NEWISH TEAM MEMBER, MAYBE ABOUT A MONTH OLD.

[INAUDIBLE] IS AN ASSISTANT DIRECTOR AND THEN BACK IN THE BACK BEHIND THAT CLOSED DOOR ATAKAN BERKMEN, [LAUGHTER] OUR VIDEO ASSISTANT DIRECTOR.

SO I JUST WANT TO RECOGNIZE THAT THEY ARE HERE TONIGHT AND OUR OTHER TEAM MEMBERS WERE HERE EARLIER TONIGHT.

SO TONIGHT WE'LL GO OVER A FEW PRIORITIES UPDATES.

SO WE TALKED ABOUT SUPERINTENDENT ENGAGEMENT BACK IN SEPTEMBER.

ELECTIONS AND POLICY, LEGISLATIVE SESSION IS JUST STARTING.

THAT'S NEW FOR THIS SEMESTER.

OUR LEADERSHIP AND AMBASSADOR PROGRAM, A LITTLE UPDATE THERE, SOCIAL MEDIA UPDATE, VIDEO PRODUCTION AND CTE COLLABORATION THAT WE'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT.

OUR LET'S TALK CAMPUS ROLLOUT, CONTINUING OUR RSVP PROGRAMING AND OUR PARTNERS AND VOLUNTEERS.

YOU HEARD A BIG UPDATE ON THAT LAST MONTH.

SO WE JUST HAVE SMALL NUMBERS TO SHARE TODAY AND IT IS EVENT SEASON.

SO WE'LL TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE EVENT THAT WE'VE ALREADY HAD AND THE ONES THAT ARE COMING UP.

SO IN THE FALL, WE TALKED ABOUT OUR SUPERINTENDENT ENGAGEMENT EFFORTS AND WE WENT THROUGH SOME OF THE THINGS THAT WE STARTED BACK IN SPRING 2022 WITH MEET AND GREETS ACROSS THE DISTRICT. WE TALKED ABOUT SETTING UP OUR DEDICATED WEB PAGE FOR THE SUPERINTENDENT INFORMATION.

WE WERE JUST LAUNCHING OUR MONTHLY VIDEO MESSAGE, THERESA'S TAKE.

AT THAT TIME, WE MIGHT HAVE BEEN CALLING IT SOMETHING ELSE, BUT WE LANDED ON THERESA'S TAKE, AND THAT'S TAKEN OFF.

OUR SOCIAL MEDIA.

WHEN IT COMES TO ENGAGEMENT IN GENERAL IN THE DISTRICT, OUR MONDAY, MISSION MONDAYS PISD, MISSION MONDAY HAS BECOME REALLY POPULAR AND PISD CULTURE OF COMMUNITY IS A HASHTAG AND THEN OUR CAMPUS-BASED INFORMATION NIGHTS.

WE MENTIONED THAT IN SEPTEMBER THAT ENDED UP ROLLING INTO SEVERAL BOND ELECTION MEETINGS, BOND ELECTION AND VATRE.

WE ROLLED OUR SAFETY AND SECURITY INFORMATION NIGHTS INTO THAT.

AND WE ALSO TALKED ABOUT COMMUNITY ROUNDTABLES, WHICH WE ARE GOING TO SEE MORE OF AS WE LAUNCH OUR PARTNERS IN EDUCATION PROGRAM.

SO WE'RE GOING TO HAVE OUR COMMUNITY AND INDUSTRY ROUNDTABLES AS PART OF THAT EFFORT.

SO WITH OUR ENGAGEMENT EFFORTS, OUR VIDEO VIEWS FOR OUR MONTHLY SUPERINTENDENT MESSAGE, WE'VE HAD 28,000 VIEWS,

[01:55:05]

28,000 EYEBALLS ON THOSE VIDEOS.

THE REACH FOR OUR PISD MISSION MONDAYS HAS THE REACH IS 100,000.

AND THEN OUR ENGAGEMENT.

THE REACH IS HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE SEEING IT.

ENGAGEMENT IS HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE INTERACTING, AND THAT'S 8,000.

AND THAT 100,000 REACH FOR PISD MISSION MONDAYS, I THINK IT HAS A LOT TO DO WITH THE FACT THAT WE'RE ON CAMPUSES AND WE'RE TAGGING THOSE CAMPUSES, AND THAT'S HELPING WITH THAT INTERACTION.

SO MOVING ON TO POLICIES AND ELECTIONS, JUST A QUICK SUMMARY.

WE COMPLETED A BOND VATRE CAMPAIGN, SO WHEN WE WERE HERE IN SEPTEMBER, WE WERE JUST GETTING STARTED WITH THAT.

I'M LAUNCHING THAT IN LATE MID TO LATE AUGUST.

SO OUR SUCCESSFUL CAMPAIGN INCLUDED BUILDING AN INFORMATIVE WEBSITE AND ADDING ON TO THAT THROUGHOUT THE CAMPAIGN.

WE HAD 30 COMMUNITY AND PARENT MEETINGS.

THANK YOU, JOHNNY, FOR DOING THE HEAVY LIFTING ON THAT.

WE GENERATED 11 VIDEOS WITH 22,000 VIEWS WITH THOSE VIDEOS.

OUR SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN INCLUDED THE HASHTAG PISD ELECTION 2022 WE'D LIKE TO THANK OUR SCHOOL PR LIAISONS WHO HELPED PUSH CONTENT OUT TO HELP INFORM OUR VOTERS ABOUT WHAT WAS ON THE BALLOT.

WE SENT TARGETED MAILERS TO REGISTERED VOTERS.

WE SENT ANOTHER ONE TO OUR SENIORS 65 AND OVER, AND WE DID AN INSERT IN OUR COMMUNITY IMPACT NEWSPAPER THAT REACHED 135,000 HOMES IN PLANO AND RICHARDSON.

OUR CABINET MEMBERS TOWARD THE END, WE ALL WENT OUT TO CAMPUSES.

EVERY CAMPUS RECEIVED A VISIT FROM A CABINET MEMBER, ONE OR MORE CABINET MEMBERS, TO TALK ABOUT WHAT WAS ON THE BALLOT.

WE HAD OUR DEDICATED LET'S TALK PLATFORM JUST FOR QUESTIONS ABOUT THE ELECTION.

WE PRODUCED YARD SIGNS FOR SCHOOL CAMPUSES AND STADIUMS, AND WE DID HAND OUT FOR THE ELEMENTARY GO-HOME FOLDERS.

ON ELECTION NIGHT, WE WERE ALL HERE, A LOT OF US IN THIS ROOM AND WHO ARE NOT HERE, PUTTING REAL TIME UPDATES ON THE WEBSITE AND ON SOCIAL MEDIA THAT NIGHT.

SO WE FEEL THAT OVERALL THAT WAS A SUCCESSFUL INFORMATION CAMPAIGN FOR THAT ELECTION.

OUR NEXT ELECTION IS MAY 6TH.

IT'S A SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION.

THESE NUMBERS ARE GOING TO LOOK A LITTLE DIFFERENT MAYBE THAN WHEN WE FINISHED THIS UP ON FRIDAY, BECAUSE OUR KEEPING TRACK OF THE NUMBER OF CANDIDATES WHO HAVE FILED TO AS OF TODAY STATE THAT SEVEN.

BUT THE WORK THAT'S BEEN INVOLVED AND GLORIA IS NOT HERE TO TALK ABOUT THIS, AND IT WAS HARD GETTING THIS INFORMATION FROM HER, BY THE WAY.

SHE WAS LIKE, OH, THESE ARE THE DATES AND THIS IS THAT.

AND I WAS LIKE, BUT WHAT DO YOU DO? I MEAN, TELL DESCRIBE WHAT YOU DO.

SO THANKS TO GLORIA AND WE'RE HANDLING THE PACKET PICKUP FOR INDIVIDUAL VISITING WITH ALL THE CANDIDATES.

CANDIDATE APPLICATIONS ARE CURRENTLY BEING ACCEPTED.

THE FILING PERIOD IS ONGOING THROUGH FEBRUARY 17TH.

AS OF TODAY, WE HAVE SEVEN CANDIDATES WHO HAVE FILED.

POLLING LOCATIONS HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED.

THAT'S KIND OF ONGOING BECAUSE THINGS MIGHT CHANGE.

THE REQUIRED ELECTION ORDER AND NOTICES AND POSTINGS ARE ALL IN PROGRESS.

OUR ELECTION WEB PAGE IS UPDATED DAILY WITH FILINGS AND OTHER REQUIRED NOTICES AND INFORMATION.

THE COLLIN COUNTY ELECTIONS JURISDICTION MEETINGS ARE BEING HELD THIS WEEK FOR TO REVIEW THOSE CONTRACTS AND DEADLINES AND PROCESSES.

AND THEN ON FEBRUARY 27TH, THE DRAWING FOR THE PLACE ON THE BALLOT WILL TAKE PLACE.

SO IF ANYBODY EVER WONDERS HOW THE BALLOT PLACE HAPPENS, IT'S THROUGH A DRAWING.

AND THEN CONTINUING WITH POLICY AND ELECTIONS.

OUR ONLINE PUBLIC COMMENT YOU'VE HEARD THIS A FEW TIMES FROM PRESIDENT STOLLE, WHO'S ANNOUNCED THE PILOT THAT WE'RE RUNNING RIGHT NOW FOR ONLINE PUBLIC COMMENT THAT BEGAN AT THE LAST WORK SESSION IN JANUARY.

RIGHT NOW, PEOPLE CAN DO THIS IN PERSON THROUGH THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR AND ONLINE CONCURRENTLY, IF THE PILOT IS SUCCESSFUL, WE'RE HOPING TO BE COMPLETELY ONLINE BY AUGUST 2023.

SO THAT TO MAKE IT CONVENIENT FOR FOLKS TO SIGN UP AND IT LETS US KNOW AHEAD OF TIME HOW WE MIGHT BE ABLE TO HELP FOLKS OUT WHO MIGHT BE COMING IN THIS EVENING TO SPEAK.

NEW FOR THIS SEMESTER, THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION STARTED IN JANUARY, AND WITH THAT WE HAVE WORKED ON A WEBSITE.

IT'S AN INFORMATIVE WEBSITE.

IT WAS VERY IMPORTANT FROM MS. LAN HARDY, WHO YOU SAW EARLIER TO SAY THAT THIS SITE IS 100% ACCESSIBLE.

THAT'S IMPORTANT FOR KEEPING PEOPLE ABLE TO BE ENGAGED WITH THAT SITE.

IT INCLUDES WEEKLY LEGISLATIVE REPORTS, AN OPPORTUNITY TO SIGN UP FOR A LEGISLATIVE NEWSLETTER, THE PRIORITIES AND REMEDIES THAT WE'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT AND SOME OF

[02:00:07]

OUR REPORTING, YOU CAN FIND THERE CONTACT INFORMATION FOR OUR LEGISLATORS.

AND OUR JANUARY SUPERINTENDENT MESSAGE.

THERESA'S TAKE ON ADVOCACY WAS RELEASED LAST WEEK, AND THAT WAS OR THE WEEK BEFORE LAST.

AND THAT WAS ALL ABOUT WHAT WHAT'S COMING IN THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION AND HOW TO ENGAGE WITH PLANO ISD.

THE WEBSITE ALSO HAS AN ONGOING RESOURCES AND INFORMATION PAGE THAT WE CONTINUE TO ADD TO .

OUR LEGISLATIVE TIMELINE THAT'S STILL UNDER DEVELOPMENT.

WE'RE PUSHING OUT INFORMATION AS IT HAPPENS, AND THEN WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO LAUNCHING OUR SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN THAT'S GOING TO BE RELATED TO THIS EFFORT.

IT'LL BE HASHTAG MORE THAN A SCORE, OR WE CAN TALK ABOUT ALL THE GREAT THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING IN PLANO ISD OUTSIDE OF TEST SCORES. OUR NEXT UPDATE IS OUR LEADERSHIP AND AMBASSADOR PROGRAM.

AND WHEN WE TALKED ABOUT THIS IN SEPTEMBER, WE WERE JUST LAUNCHING FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR.

WE HAVE HAD THREE SUCCESSFUL MEETINGS SO FAR.

OUR OVERVIEW DAY, OUR DISTRICT DISCOVERY DAY PART 2.

WE DISCUSS PILLARS ONE AND TWO OVER AT PLANO EAST ON NOVEMBER 29TH.

AND THEN LAST WEEK'S DISTRICT DISCOVERY DAY PART TWO WAS CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER.

BUT WE ARE REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO VALENTINE'S DAY WHEN WE'RE GOING TO BE BACK, I THINK, OVER AT THE [INAUDIBLE] CENTER, TALKING ABOUT TALENT ACQUISITION, SUPPORT AND GROWTH IN STRATEGIC RESOURCE MANAGEMENT, THOSE PILLARS.

WE'RE GOING TO ROUND OUT THE YEAR WITH CULTURE OF COMMUNITY PILLAR 4 ON MARCH 21ST, AND THEN WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A GRADUATION FOR THE CLASS ON APRIL 25TH.

AND SPEAKING OF GRADUATES OR GRADUATING, WE WANT TO KIND OF BRAG ON OUR CLASS ONE A LITTLE BIT.

WE ARE ALREADY SEEING THE IMPACT OF THIS PROGRAM BEING ACTUALIZED IN THE DISTRICT.

SEE PLANO WAS SATURDAY.

WE HAD THREE MEMBERS OF CLASS ONE WHO PARTICIPATED AS VOLUNTEERS FOR THAT EVENT.

WE'VE GOT TWO MEMBERS SERVING ON, TWO GRADUATES SERVING ON OUR DBIC, OUR DISTRICT BASED IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE.

WE HAVE ONE CLASS MEMBER SERVING AS PRESIDENT OF THE PLANO ISD COUNCIL OF PTAS.

SURE, HE WAS PROBABLY ON TRACK TO DO THAT ANYWAY BEFORE BEING IN LEADERSHIP AN AMBASSADOR PROGRAM, BUT WE'RE VERY PROUD OF THAT.

WE HAVE ONE CLASS MEMBER WHO'S A GRADUATE OF CLASS ONE WHO IS THE BEST OF PLANO RISING STAR AWARD RECIPIENT FROM THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE THIS YEAR.

WE HAD ONE WHO SERVED ON OUR FUTURE FORWARD BOND TASK FORCE AND ANOTHER MEMBER WHO, WELL, SIX CLASS MEMBERS WHO WERE VERY EXCITED.

WE DID TRAINING FOR OUR BOND AND VATRE TOOLKIT FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE INTERESTED IN GOING OUT INTO THE COMMUNITY TO SHARE THIS MESSAGE WITH OTHERS.

WE HAD SIX OF THOSE CLASS MEMBERS WHO ATTENDED THAT TRAINING.

AND THEN THROUGHOUT THIS YEAR, WE'VE HAD CLASS MEMBERS COMING BACK FOR CLASS TOO CLASS SESSIONS JUST TO HELP OUT.

SO WE ARE SEEING SOME BENEFITS AND CONTINUED ENGAGEMENT.

SO THAT'S REALLY EXCITING.

WE'LL TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT SOCIAL MEDIA.

WE ARE SEEING AN INCREASE OF FOLLOWERS AND FANS ON OUR THREE MAIN SOCIAL MEDIA PAGES AND THEN WE'RE ALSO SEEING AN INCREASE IN ACTIVITY.

SO AND THAT'S BECAUSE WE'RE POSTING MORE.

SO WE ARE POSTING MORE OFTEN ON SOCIAL MEDIA NOW MORE THAN EVER AND THIS SCHOOL YEAR, WE HAVE POSTED 208 TIMES MORE ACROSS TWITTER, FACEBOOK AND INSTAGRAM THAN WE DID THIS TIME LAST YEAR.

WE HAVE INCREASED OUR OVERALL POST IMPRESSIONS BY 11.8% THIS SCHOOL YEAR.

WE HAVE TRANSITIONED.

WE'VE HAD A FEW MORE STAFF MEMBERS WHO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GIVE US A LITTLE MORE VISUALLY APPEALING GRAPHIC CONTENT.

THE SHORT FORM VIDEO CONTENT HAS BEEN IMPORTANT AND WE JUST THOUGHT IT WAS NEAT JUST TO POINT OUT THAT OUR TOP PERFORMING POSTS FOR THIS WHOLE SCHOOL YEAR HAVE BEEN WHEN WE ANNOUNCED OUR TONI&GUY PARTNERSHIP.

AND THEN WHEN WE HAD THE H-E-B DONATION TO OUR CULINARY ARTS PROGRAM IN CONJUNCTION WITH THEIR GRAND OPENING.

SO THOSE HAVE BEEN OUR TOP PERFORMING POSTS FOR THIS SCHOOL YEAR.

AND THEN LOOKING AT VIDEO PRODUCTION YOU ALL SAW ATAKAN THERE IN THE BACK, AND HERE HE IS HERE WITH SOME OF OUR STUDENTS FROM PLANO EAST WORKING THE MLK EVENT A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO. OUR VIDEO PRODUCTION, THERE ARE SOME REALLY GOOD STATS HERE TO SHARE.

SO WE HAVE HAD 70 VIDEOS PRODUCED SINCE JULY.

I THINK WHEN WE FIRST PUT THIS TOGETHER, THAT NUMBER WAS 68.

BUT WE ADDED TO THAT LEADERSHIP AT [INAUDIBLE] PLANO OVER THE WEEKEND.

SO TWO MORE VIDEOS. SO THAT'S NOW 70 VIDEOS PRODUCED SINCE JULY COMPARED TO 38 TOTAL VIDEOS PRODUCED IN 2021, 22.

AND I SAID THAT TWICE BECAUSE I LEARNED FROM JOHNNY WATCHING HIM DO ALL OF THOSE BOND AND VATRE ELECTIONS.

[02:05:01]

AND WHEN THERE WAS A NUMBER THAT WAS IMPRESSIVE, HE WOULD SAY IT AND HE WILL SAY, I'M GOING TO SAY THAT AGAIN.

70 VIDEOS PRODUCED SINCE JULY.

[LAUGHTER] WE'VE ALSO PRODUCED HELPED WITH THE 13 BOARD MEETING BROADCAST ONE EVENT BROADCAST THAT WAS OUR MLK EVENT A FEW WEEKS AGO.

AND YOU CAN SEE THE STATS THERE ON SOCIAL MEDIA.

I WON'T GO THROUGH ALL OF THAT, BUT VIDEO DOES REALLY WELL ON SOCIAL MEDIA.

AND SO OUR AVERAGE VIEWS PER VIDEO ACROSS ALL PLATFORMS IS 3,075.

AND SO WE'VE HAD NEARLY HALF A MILLION VIEWS ACROSS ALL PLATFORMS OF OUR VIDEO.

SO I THINK THAT IS THAT'S PRETTY IMPRESSIVE.

OUR COLLABORATION IS SOMETHING THAT WE ARE VERY EXCITED ABOUT, SO WE WERE JUST GETTING STARTED WITH THAT IN SEPTEMBER, AND SINCE THEN IT'S COME TO FRUITION.

WE WERE ABLE TO WORK WITH OUR HR DEPARTMENT IN COLLABORATION WITH THEM AND A COLLABORATION WITH OUR CTE DEPARTMENT.

WE'VE GOT 17 STUDENTS WHO EXPRESSED INTEREST ACROSS ALL THREE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOLS, SEVEN WHO HAVE ACTUALLY COMPLETED THE APPLICATION AND ONBOARDING PROCESS.

AND THEN THOSE SAME STUDENTS WHO HAVE RECEIVED INDIVIDUAL EMPLOYEE IDS, I THINK THAT'S REALLY EXCITING.

AND THEY'RE GETTING $12 AN HOUR.

AND SO WE'RE TRYING TO ROTATE THREE STUDENTS PER EVENT ACROSS OUR FIVE DISTRICT EVENTS.

WE HAD THREE STUDENTS FROM PLANO EAST WORKING AT WILLIAMS FOR MLK.

AND A LOT OF THE STUDENTS ARE SAYING THIS IS THEIR FIRST PAID GIG.

SO THIS IS THEIR FIRST OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE MONEY.

AND SO WE'RE REALLY EXCITED, EXCITED BY THAT.

ANOTHER PROJECT THAT WE'VE TALKED ABOUT IS LET'S TALK.

WE ROLLED IT OUT AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL.

WE'RE NOW PILOTING IT AT A FEW CAMPUSES.

RIGHT NOW WE'VE GOT SIX CAMPUSES INVOLVED IN OUR PILOT, ONE EARLY CHILDHOOD SCHOOL, TWO ELEMENTARIES AND THREE HIGH SCHOOLS.

WE HAVE LEARNED ALREADY A FEW WEEKS BACK, VINES LOST POWER.

I REMEMBER WE WERE ALL SITTING AROUND THE TABLE IN SELENDA'S OFFICE WORKING.

AND AT THAT SAME TIME, WE'RE CHECKING, LET'S TALK AND QUESTIONS ARE COMING IN.

AND WE WERE ABLE TO ANSWER THOSE QUESTIONS FROM OUR OFFICE WHILE VINES WAS HELPING OUT.

AND A LOT OF PEOPLE FROM THIS BUILDING WERE OVER NEXT DOOR, HELPING OUT THAT CAMPUS DURING THEIR POWER OUTAGE.

THE PILOT PROGRAM IS PROVIDING US INPUT ON TOPICS FOR EACH GRADE LEVEL.

SO AS WE GET QUESTIONS IN, THAT WILL HELP US BUILD OUT THE PAGES FOR THE GRADE LEVELS A LOT LIKE WE DID FOR A WEBSITE.

SO WE WORKED WITH CAMPUSES TO BUILD OUR PAGES FOR THE WEBSITE.

WHEN WE ROLLED OVER TO OUR NEW WEBSITE, WE'RE DOING THE SAME FOR LET'S TALK.

AND STILL TO COME IN, IN THE COMING MONTHS, WE WILL PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION TO THE COMMUNITY ABOUT HOW TO USE IT AND THE BENEFITS OF LET'S TALK.

WE ARE GETTING FEEDBACK FROM THE PILOT CAMPUSES AND WE'RE BEING ABLE TO GIVE FEEDBACK TO THE PROCESS WORKING WITH THOSE CAMPUSES.

AND WE ARE GOING TO PREPARE FOR OUR CONTINUED ROLLOUT NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.

WE WANTED TO SHOW A FEW STATS ON THE BOARD.

WE'VE HAD 33 DIALOGS RECEIVED.

THIS WAS AS OF LATE LAST WEEK.

IT'S SHOWING THAT PEOPLE ARE HAVING POSITIVE EXPERIENCES IN GENERAL.

I THINK OUR TEAM WANTED TO POINT OUT THAT THAT ONE PAST DUE DIALOG WAS THE PRINCIPAL REPLIED RIGHT AWAY.

BUT THEY ASKED FOR MORE INFORMATION FROM THE CUSTOMER, PROBABLY A PARENT.

AND AT THE TIME THEY HADN'T GOTTEN IT, BUT THEY HAVE SINCE RECEIVED THE INFORMATION AND CLOSED THAT DIALOG.

SO IT'S I LIKE THE WAY THAT LET'S TALK GIVES YOU FEEDBACK THEY'RE SAYING OVERALL GOOD JOB GREAT SERVICE AND LOOKING GOOD.

WE LIKE SEEING THOSE WORDS.

A FEW THINGS THAT I THINK ARE NEAT TO MENTION IS WHO'S FINDING LET'S TALK ON THE CAMPUS PAGES.

IT'S MOSTLY PARENTS, AS WE WOULD EXPECT, BUT WE'VE GOT STUDENTS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS TOO.

SO I THINK THAT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE.

AND THEN LOOKING AT HOW OFTEN IT'S BEING USED, WE ROLLED IT OUT IN NOVEMBER AND SOME PEOPLE FOUND IT AND DECEMBER WAS A SHORT MONTH.

AND THEN NOW IN JANUARY, IT LOOKS LIKE PEOPLE ARE FINDING IT EVEN MORE AND REACHING OUT DIRECTLY TO THOSE CAMPUSES.

AND SO THIS IS KIND OF THE PROGRESS OF WHAT IT'S LOOKING LIKE.

IN SEPTEMBER, WE TALKED ABOUT OUR RETIRED SENIORS VALUED IN PLANO PROGRAM.

WE SAID WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO BRINGING IT BACK.

WE HAD NOT HAD ANY SESSIONS SINCE BEFORE COVID.

SO SINCE THEN, IN DECEMBER, WE WERE ABLE TO DO A CULINARY ARTS EXCHANGE WITH OUR FOLKS OVER AT PLANO EAST, WHERE THE SENIORS CAME IN AND DID A HOLIDAY COOKING GINGERBREAD EXPERIENCE.

AND THEN WE HAVE SCHEDULED FOR NEXT MONTH IN MARCH, POWER TO THE FLOWER FLORAL DESIGN CLASS AT PLANO WEST.

SO WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING WHAT THE ATTENDANCE WILL BE LIKE THERE.

SO WE ARE GLAD TO HAVE OUR 65 PLUS FRIENDS BACK ON OUR CAMPUSES.

AND OUR VOLUNTEER UPDATE.

[02:10:02]

WE'RE GOING TO BE REALLY BRIEF HERE BECAUSE WE DID A PARTNERS IN EDUCATION PROGRAM WILL COME BACK WITH MORE INFORMATION ON THAT PROGRAM AS WE GET MORE DATA AND DEVELOP THAT.

BUT VOLUNTEERS ALONE IN 20 THIS SCHOOL YEAR WE'VE HAD 36,000 TOTAL VOLUNTEERS GIVE NEARLY 10,000 HOURS. AND SINCE VOLY'S INCEPTION, WE'VE HAD 10,000 TOTAL VOLUNTEERS WITH OVER 24,000 HOURS TO THE DISTRICT THAT WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO TRACK THROUGH THE SYSTEM. SO WE'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

AND OUR FINAL TOPIC TONIGHT IS EVENTS.

IT'S EVENT SEASON.

SO OUR TEAM HELPED OUT WITH SKI PLANO ON SATURDAY NIGHT, BUT OUR FIRST EVENT FOR THIS EVENT SEASON WAS OUR MLK EVENT THAT HAPPENED LAST MONTH.

IT WAS THE FIRST TIME THAT WE'VE HAD THIS EVENT IN PERSON SINCE 2019, SO WE'RE VERY EXCITED TO HAVE THAT BACK.

WE HAD OVER 250 STUDENTS WHO PARTICIPATED.

WE HAD 6 STUDENT GROUPS PERFORM, 4 ART CONTEST WINNERS, 6 WRITING CONTEST WINNERS, 3 RECIPIENTS OF THE MYRTLE HIGHTOWER DIVERSITY LEADERSHIP AWARD. AND WE WERE VERY EXCITED TO HAVE MYRTLE HIGHTOWER HERSELF.

DR. HIGHTOWER THERE AS THE EVENT FOUNDER AND CHAIRPERSON EMERITUS, RECEIVE THE DIVERSITY LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD.

SO WE WERE HAPPY TO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SHARE THAT EXPERIENCE WITH HER.

AND THERE IS OUR TEAM MEMBER WITH DR.

HIGHTOWER JUST CELEBRATING AN OVERALL GREAT EVENT.

WE HAD A REALLY GREAT KEYNOTE FROM DR.

GOBER. WE'RE HAPPY THAT HE WAS ABLE TO LEND THAT TALENT TO THIS EVENT.

AND JUST IN CONCLUSION, SAVE THE DATES.

SO APRIL 13TH, SALUTE TO SERVICE AWARDS BANQUET, APRIL 25TH LEADERSHIP AND AMBASSADOR PROGRAM GRADUATION, MAY 11TH TEACHER OF THE YEAR GALA, JUNE 1ST ACADEMY HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION AND JUNE 3RD OUR SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION.

SO I HOPE ALL OF THESE DATES ARE ON YOUR CALENDARS AND WE HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE.

AND THAT IS THE END OF MY REPORT.

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? YOU KNOW, I HAVE A COUPLE OF COMMENTS.

I DON'T REALLY HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, BUT I JUST WANT TO GIVE YOU A BIG KUDOS BECAUSE THAT BOND VADER WEBSITE WAS SO HELPFUL FOR THE COMMUNITY BECAUSE THEY COULD GO IN AND CLICK ON A PARTICULAR CAMPUS AND SEE WHAT WAS GOING TO BE INCLUDED.

THAT WAS A REALLY GOOD RESOURCE.

AND SO HATS OFF TO EVERYONE ON THE TEAM THAT DID THAT.

AND ALSO, I'M VERY APPRECIATIVE OF ALL THE WORK YOU ALL HAVE PUT INTO THE LEGISLATIVE AFFAIRS WEB PAGE.

THAT IS A REMARKABLE RESOURCE FOR OUR COMMUNITY.

AND I HOPE THAT WE'RE SEEING I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY SIGNUPS WE HAVE FOR THE NEWSLETTER, BUT I HOPE THAT NUMBER IS GROWING.

I THINK THE NUMBER IS I DON'T REMEMBER WHERE WE ARE RIGHT NOW, BUT I THINK WE'RE UP CLOSE TO ABOUT 300 WHO SIGNED UP WITH THAT FIRST NEWSLETTER.

SO WHEN WE GET READY TO SEND ANOTHER ONE, WE'LL CHECK THE CHECK THAT NUMBER AGAIN.

OKAY. MAYBE WE COULD DO A PUSH OR SOMETHING IN ONE OF THE UPDATES TO GET PEOPLE TO, YOU KNOW, JUST LOG ON.

AND THE LEADERSHIP AND AMBASSADOR PROGRAM, THAT IS JUST SUCH AN AMAZING PROGRAM.

SO ALL I MEAN, I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW MUCH YALL DO IN YOUR TEENY TINY DEPARTMENT, BUT IT'S AMAZING.

SO THANKS. THANK YOU.

I HAD A QUESTION AND IT'S ABOUT LINKEDIN, AND I'M ASKING ABOUT THIS REALLY SORT OF FOR TWO REASONS.

ONE, I SAW THE REQUEST FOR SCIENCE FAIR JUDGES GO OUT ON FACEBOOK.

AND I REALLY WOULD RATHER SHARE THAT ON LINKEDIN.

RIGHT, BECAUSE THAT'S KIND OF WHERE PROFESSIONAL NETWORK IS.

AND THEN NANCY AND I ATTENDED TODAY THE MAYOR'S SUMMER INTERNSHIP LAUNCH, AND THEY'RE LOOKING FOR SPONSORS TO TAKE INTERNS.

AND THAT'S ANOTHER ONE THAT IF THE DISTRICT OR THE CITY IS SHARING THAT CALL FOR SPONSORS, GOING OUT ON PEOPLE'S PROFESSIONAL NETWORKS MAY GIVE US A WIDER REACH. AND SO I'M I'M JUST CURIOUS IF THERE'S BEEN CONSIDERATION OF OF ANY TYPE OF LIKE LINKEDIN STRATEGY SO THAT THINGS THAT ARE MORE EASILY SHARED THROUGH PROFESSIONAL NETWORKS OR MAYBE MORE SUCCESSFUL I'M GLAD YOU MENTION THAT WE DO HAVE A DISTRICT LINKEDIN AND WE HAVE SOHAIB IS OUR BRAND NEW PR AND SOCIAL MEDIA ASSISTANT DIRECTOR. AND ONE OF THE FIRST THINGS HE ASKED ABOUT WAS, HEY, WHAT'S THE LINKEDIN LOGIN? AND I SAID, HERE IT IS.

AND HE HAS BEEN POSTING TO LINKEDIN.

SO IN THE LAST FEW WEEKS YOU'LL SEE CONTENT ON LINKEDIN THAT YOU WOULDN'T HAVE SEEN BEFORE.

SO WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH CONTENT TO GIVE YOU STATS ABOUT IT YET, BUT, BUT BE ON THE LOOKOUT AND FIND THE PAGE AND WE CAN SEE IF WE CAN LINK IT THROUGH PART OF HOW OUR WEBSITE WORKS IS WE HAVE TO MAKE SURE THAT THINGS WORK THROUGH BLACKBOARD.

AND I DON'T KNOW IF WE CAN PUT A LINKEDIN ICON ON THE WEBSITE, BUT IF WE CAN, THEN WE'LL ADD THAT TO BUT WE'RE NEWLY GETTING MORE INVOLVED WITH LINKEDIN.

GREAT. THANK YOU. I HAD A QUESTION I LOVE LET'S TALK.

[02:15:03]

AND I SAW THAT THE STUDENTS IN COMMUNITY AND PARENTS, BUT IS THERE ANY FUNCTIONALITY FOR YOU TO BE ABLE TO DO LET'S TALK FOR TEACHERS? SO FOR TEACHERS TO SUBMIT THEIR QUESTIONS, IT'S AVAILABLE.

YEAH, IT'S THERE.

SO STAFF MEMBERS IS ONE OF THE CATEGORIES OF FOLKS WHO CAN.

BUT WE JUST HAVEN'T HAD STAFF PARTICIPATE.

IS THAT WHY THE DATA WASN'T THERE? THAT WAS ONLY FOR THE CAMPUSES.

SO THAT'S NOT THE DISTRICT WIDE DATA.

SO AT THE DISTRICT WE DO HAVE STAFF MEMBERS IN THAT LISTING.

SO THIS IS LIKE OUR BRAND NEW PILOT FOR CAMPUSES.

AND SO FAR, THAT'S WHO'S FOUND THE CAMPUS SITES.

MM HMM. MM HMM. OKAY.

THANKS, LESLEY. THANK YOU.

GREAT WORK. YOU ALL HAVE DONE A LOT OF WORK OVER THE COURSE OF THE FIRST HALF OF THE YEAR.

SO IT'S AMAZING.

KUDOS AGAIN TO NANCY SAID TO YOU ALL.

THAT IS OUR LAST REPORT.

WE ARE MOVING ON TO POLICIES.

[9.1 Adoption of Policy COA(LOCAL) Food and Nutrition Management: Procurement on Second Reading]

WE HAVE POLICY ITEM NUMBER 91.1, WHICH IS ADOPTION OF POLICY COA LOCAL FOOD AND NUTRITION MANAGEMENT PROCUREMENT ON SECOND READING, I WOULD INVITE CELINDA TO INTRODUCE THIS.

THANK YOU. PRESIDENT STOLLE POLICY CA LOCAL HAS BEEN REVISED AND RECOMMENDED BY TASB TO REFLECT CURRENT DISTRICT PRACTICE.

THIS POLICY IS PRESENTED FOR ADOPTION UNDER SECOND READING THIS EVENING.

THANK YOU. THE POLICY WAS DELIVERED TO US.

YOU CAN SAY IT'S RELATIVELY MINOR CHANGE.

DO I HAVE A MOTION? YES. I MOVE THAT THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES THAT DOES POLICY COA LOCAL ON SECOND READING.

SO I HAVE A MOTION BY ANGELA POWELL, SECOND BY CODY WEAVER THAT THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES ADOPTS POLICY COA LOCAL ON SECOND READING.

IS THERE ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? HEARING NONE. LET'S VOTE.

ALL IN FAVOR, PLEASE RAISE YOUR HAND.

THAT MOTION PASSES UNANIMOUSLY.

ITEM NUMBER TEN.

[10. CONCLUSION OF PUBLIC COMMENT SESSION - NON-AGENDA ITEMS]

SO WE DO HAVE WE HAD THREE NON AGENDA SPEAKERS.

I THINK WE HAVE TWO FOLKS LEFT.

YEAH. WHO ARE NON AGENDA SPEAKERS AND SO WE ARE GOING TO ADDRESS THOSE.

NOW LET ME GET BACK TO MY SPOT SO I CAN TELL YOU ALL THE RULES OF ENGAGEMENT HERE.

ALL RIGHT. SO WE'LL ASK EACH OF YOU, THE TWO OF YOU, TO COME UP IN ORDER FOR THE BOARD TO HOLD THIS MEETING AND EFFECTIVE MANNER, I ASK THE PUBLIC TO ABIDE BY THE RULES IN BOARD POLICY BED LOCAL AT BOARD MEETINGS.

THE BOARD PERMITS PUBLIC COMMENT REGARDING AGENDA AND NON AGENDA NON AGENDA ITEMS. AGENDA RELATED COMMENTS ARE HEARD PRIOR TO THE BOARD'S CONSIDERATION OR ACTION ON THE AGENDA ITEM.

NON AGENDA RELATED COMMENTS ARE HEARD NOW AT THE END OF THE MEETING.

INDIVIDUALS PARTICIPATE BY SUBMITTING A COMMENT CARD IN ADVANCE OF THE MEETING.

COMMENT CARDS ARE NOT TRANSFERABLE AND INCOMPLETE COMMENT CARDS MAY NOT BE HONORED.

IF A SPEAKER IS NOT PRESENT WHEN CALLED UPON, THEIR OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK WILL BE FORFEITED.

FAILURE TO LIST THE AGENDA ITEM BEING ADDRESSED WILL RESULT IN THE PRESUMPTION.

SINCE YOU ARE SPEAKING ON A NON AGENDA ITEM, SHOULD AN INDIVIDUAL FAIL TO ADDRESS THE ITEM LISTED ON THEIR PUBLIC COMMENT CARD, I WILL STOP THE SPEAKER AND REQUEST THAT THEY MAINTAIN FOCUS ON THE TOPIC LISTED.

SPEAKERS WHO FAIL TO ADHERE TO THE TOPIC LISTED ON THEIR COMMENT CARD ARE OUT OF ORDER AND WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE.

PUBLIC COMMENT SESSIONS MAY NOT BE USED TO VOICE A COMPLAINT INVOLVING THE NAMING OF SPECIFIC INDIVIDUALS, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE NAMES OF DISTRICT EMPLOYEES OR STUDENTS. ADDITIONALLY, NO INFORMATION THAT MAY REASONABLY BE LINKED TO AN INDIVIDUAL PERSON MAY BE SHARED DURING PUBLIC COMMENT.

TONIGHT'S SPEAKERS WILL HAVE 3 MINUTES EACH.

IF YOU'RE NOT FINISHED SPEAKING AT THE END OF YOUR TIME, YOU ARE EXPECTED TO STOP.

SPEAKERS WHO FAIL TO STOP SPEAKING WHEN INSTRUCTED TO DO SO ARE OUT OF ORDER AND THE MICROPHONE WILL BE TURNED OFF.

SPEAKERS WHO RECEIVED HAVE RECEIVED INFORMATION REGARDING THE EXPECTATIONS OF PATRONS DURING PUBLIC COMMENT SESSION.

AS A REMINDER TO SPEAKERS AND MEMBERS OF THE AUDIENCE, IT'S A CRIMINAL OFFENSE TO DISRUPT A LAWFUL MEETING.

IF AFTER AT LEAST ONE MORNING AN INDIVIDUAL CONTINUES TO DISRUPT THE MEETING WITH WORDS OR ACTIONS, THE PERSON MAY BE ASKED TO LEAVE.

SO WHEN YOU ARE CALLED UPON TO THE PODIUM, PLEASE STATE YOUR NAME.

YOU ARE SPEAKING ON A NON AGENDA ITEM, SO PLEASE TELL US WHAT THAT NON AGENDA TOPIC IS AND WHETHER OR NOT YOU RESIDE IN THE DISTRICT.

JERI CHAMBERS IS YOUR BOARD SECRETARY YOU WILL HAVE 3 MINUTES ON THE TIMER.

YOU'LL ALSO HAVE 3 MINUTES UP HERE SO THAT YOU CAN SEE WHEN YOUR TIME IS NEARLY UP.

IF YOU GET TO THE END OF YOUR 3 MINUTES, I'D ASK THAT YOU FINISH YOUR THOUGHT SO THAT WE CAN WRAP THAT COMMENT UP.

DR. ANDERSON WITH THAT, BY THE WAY, LET ME POINT OUT TO FOR NON AGENDA RELATED ITEMS, THE BOARD CANNOT RESPOND TO A COMMENT SO YOU CAN DELIVER COMMENTS. YOU MAY ASK QUESTIONS, BUT THE BOARD WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RESPOND.

DR. ANDERSON, LET'S CALL UP OUR FIRST SPEAKER.

OUR FIRST SPEAKER THIS EVENING IS MEGAN VECCHIO.

DO YOU WANT TO COME ON UP TO THE PODIUM? MEGAN, DO YOU WANT A ONE MINUTE WARNING OR ARE YOU GOOD TO GO? UM. I THINK.

I THINK I'M PROBABLY OKAY.

[02:20:02]

OKAY. BUT THANK YOU.

YOU BET. CAN I MAKE A COMMENT, THOUGH? JUST QUICKLY, BEFORE I START, WOULD THAT BE ALLOWED JUST UNRELATED TO WHAT I WANTED TO SPEAK ON JUST BRIEFLY.

I'M NEW TO THIS.

I'VE ONLY EVER SPOKEN ON A BOARD MEETING ONCE, SO THIS IS MY SECOND TIME.

I JUST IT WOULD BE NICE IF YOU ALL COULD DO CLOSED BOARD SESSION STUFF MAYBE AFTER PARENTS GET TO TALK JUST BECAUSE WE'VE BEEN HERE.

MA'AM, I'M SORRY. I UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU'RE SAYING.

I UNDERSTAND THE CONCERN THAT NON AGENDA ITEMS ARE AT THE END OF OUR MEETING.

SO IF YOU COULD STICK TO YOUR NON AGENDA TOPIC AND FEEL FREE TO MAKE ANY OTHER COMMENT TO US THROUGH AN EMAIL, THROUGH THROUGH ANY OTHER MEANS YOU'D LIKE TO. BUT YEAH, I'M NOT TRYING TO BE OUT OF ORDER.

I UNDERSTAND HOW LONG THIS.

I KNOW IT'S A LONG.

WE UNDERSTAND IT'S A MEETING.

I MEAN, THERE'S ONLY ONCE A MONTH AND ALL THAT, SO I JUST.

IT WOULD JUST BE NICE IF IT WAS A LITTLE EASIER ANYWAY.

ALL RIGHT, THANKS.

SO, MY NAME IS MEGAN VECCHIO.

I'M HERE TONIGHT BECAUSE I JUST WANTED TO DISCUSS WITH YOU.

YOU MIGHT ALREADY BE AWARE THAT PLANO HAS 13 MIDDLE SCHOOLS, AND THEY ARE CONSIDERING MOVING ALL OF THEM TO AN EIGHT PERIOD DAY NEXT YEAR.

THREE MIDDLE SCHOOLS CURRENTLY HAVE AN EIGHT PERIOD DAY ALREADY, BUT APPARENTLY YOU'RE THINKING OF MAKING THAT DISTRICT WIDE.

I DON'T REALLY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT IN GENERAL, EXCEPT THAT SOME CAMPUSES DON'T HAVE ENOUGH ELECTIVE CLASSES TO SUPPORT THIS.

AND WE'RE CURRENTLY BEING TOLD AT OUR CAMPUS THAT IF THIS PLAN FOR AN EIGHT PERIOD DAY GOES THROUGH NEXT YEAR, THAT MURPHY MIDDLE SCHOOL WILL POSSIBLY REQUIRE ITS SIXTH GRADERS TO TAKE TWO YEAR LONG FINE ARTS CLASSES SIMULTANEOUSLY, THE STATE ONLY REQUIRES ONE.

AND I DON'T KNOW WHY THEY'D HAVE TO TAKE IT SIMULTANEOUSLY, OTHER THAN THEY CAN'T FILL THEIR SCHEDULE OTHERWISE.

I THINK THIS IS AN AWFUL PLAN FOR STUDENTS THAT DON'T ENJOY FINE ARTS CLASSES, AS IT WOULD BE AN AWFUL PLAN TO FORCE KIDS TO TAKE TWO SIMULTANEOUS P.E.

CLASSES OR TWO SIMULTANEOUS COMPUTER CLASSES.

THIS DOES NOT MEET THE NEEDS OF MANY LEARNERS.

IN MY OPINION, IT'S NOT BEST PRACTICE.

WE'RE SUPPOSEDLY A DISTRICT OF INNOVATION.

THIS IS NOT INNOVATIVE.

THE STATE ONLY REQUIRES ONE FINE ARTS CLASS CREDIT FOR MIDDLE SCHOOLERS THROUGH THEIR ENTIRE MIDDLE SCHOOL CAREER.

AND I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND ON WHAT AUTHORITY THIS DISTRICT ATTEMPTS TO EXPAND THAT REQUIREMENT BEYOND WHAT THE STATE REQUIRES.

I'VE HEARD THAT RENNER MIDDLE SCHOOL IS ALSO CONSIDERING THIS, ALTHOUGH THEY'RE CONSIDERING MAKING THEIR SIXTH GRADERS TAKE ONE FINE ARTS CLASS AND THEN TAKE ANOTHER AS A SEVENTH GRADER AGAIN, GOING OVER WHAT IS REQUIRED BY THE STATE.

AND THIS IS REALLY INCONSISTENT THAT THIS IS LIKE WHAT YOU'RE ALLOWING ON DIFFERENT CAMPUSES, ESPECIALLY TONIGHT WHEN YOU'RE SPENDING TIME DISCUSSING UNITY ABOUT TILE COLORS.

SO I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THIS LINES UP WITH YOUR FOCUS AS A DISTRICT.

THERE SHOULD NOT BE SIGNIFICANT EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES OR REQUIREMENTS THAT ARE AFFORDED TO ARE BARRED FROM STUDENTS BASED ON THE ZIP CODE WHERE THEY LIVE.

THERE JUST SHOULDN'T BE.

IF ONE STUDENT IS REQUIRED TO TAKE TWO FINE ARTS CLASSES AT THEIR MIDDLE SCHOOL.

WHAT DO YOU SAY TO THAT PARENT WHEN OTHER DISTRICT, OTHER CAMPUSES ACROSS THE DISTRICT AREN'T REQUIRING THAT AND THE STATE ISN'T REQUIRING THAT? I WAS REALLY EXCITED AS A PARENT TO SEE THE DISTRICT FINALLY ALLOW CHOICE FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL FINE ARTS REQUIREMENTS.

IF PLANO PROCEEDS WITH THIS EIGHT PERIOD DAY AND IF MURPHY MIDDLE SCHOOL PROCEEDS WITH REQUIRING TWO FINE ARTS CLASSES AT ONCE, THEN THIS NEGATES THE CHOICE OF FINE ARTS THAT THE STUDENTS WERE FINALLY GOING TO BE ABLE TO HAVE.

WHILE I SUPPORT THE CHOICE IN FINE ARTS CLASSES, THIS UNEXPECTED CHANGE HAS CAUSED DIVISION AND UPHEAVAL IN FINE ARTS DEPARTMENTS ACROSS THE DISTRICT.

IF THIS DISTRICT COULD NOT HAVE MADE THIS TRANSITION MORE SMOOTHLY, THEN MAYBE THIS DISTRICT SHOULD HAVE WAITED ANOTHER YEAR BEFORE DOING THIS.

THIS IS ALSO A DISTRICT THAT SEEMS RECENTLY CONCERNED WITH MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAMS. MY CHILD'S MENTAL HEALTH IS MY CONCERN AND MY RESPONSIBILITY.

YOUR TIME IS UP.

NEXT SPEAKER IS CARRIE WEEDEN.

CARRIE, DO YOU WANT A ONE MINUTE WARNING? NO, THAT'S OKAY. I'LL JUST TRY TO READ FAST.

OKAY. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. I THANK YOU ALL FOR SERVING ON THIS SCHOOL BOARD AND FOR THE SACRIFICES YOU MAKE TO SERVE HERE.

PLANO ISD USED TO HAVE AN EXCELLENT REPUTATION.

TEACHERS DID EVERYTHING THEY COULD TO GET A JOB HERE, AND PARENTS MADE EXTREME CUTS IN THEIR BUDGETS JUST SO THEY COULD BUY A HOME IN OUR DISTRICT.

ALL THIS SO THEIR KIDS COULD RECEIVE QUALITY EDUCATION.

HOWEVER, IN RECENT IN RECENT YEARS, PLANO ISD BEGAN DECLINING.

I HAVE A SOLUTION.

LET'S GET BACK TO BASICS.

WE HAVE LOST SIGHT OF WHAT PUBLIC EDUCATION IS SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT.

IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT TEACHING AND LEARNING MATH, SCIENCE, HISTORY, AND ENGLISH.

[02:25:02]

WHEN PLANO ISD FOCUSED ON ACADEMICS, THAT'S WHEN THEY WERE AT THEIR BEST.

IN RECENT YEARS, THE FOCUS HAS BEEN ON PROGRAMS LIKE SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING.

WRITE THE RISING UP PROGRAM, WHICH IS YOU'RE TRYING TO IMPLEMENT, AND THE SCHOOL HEALTH ADVISORY COUNCIL.

THE IDEAS TAUGHT AND DISCUSSED IN THESE PROGRAMS ARE INAPPROPRIATE FOR SCHOOLS TO BE DISCUSSING WITH KIDS, AND THEY TAKE TIME AWAY FROM ACADEMICS.

THEY ARE INAPPROPRIATE BECAUSE PARENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR KID'S SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL AND MENTAL HEALTH.

A LOT OF IDEAS DISCUSSED FALL INTO THE MORALS CATEGORY.

EACH CULTURE HAS THEIR OWN MORAL CODE AND OR RELIGION, AND WITHIN EACH CULTURE THERE ARE DIFFERENCES AND BELIEFS AMONG FAMILIES.

OFTEN THESE PROGRAM IDEAS AND BELIEFS ARE NOT WHAT PARENTS AGREE WITH.

THESE PROGRAMS THE PROGRAMS I MENTIONED ARE BEING FORCED ON OUR STUDENTS AND WITHOUT PARENTAL CONSENT, THEY HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH ACADEMICS.

IT ALMOST FEELS LIKE PLANO ISD IS TRYING TO TAKE PARENTAL RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES FROM PARENTS.

I NOTICED THAT WHEN THESE PROGRAMS WERE IMPLEMENTED, ACADEMICS BEGAN TO SUFFER.

PLANO ISD HAS SUFFERED A MAJOR DROP IN ENROLLMENT, INCLUDING TEACHERS LEAVING OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS, WHICH COINCIDES WITH WHEN THESE PROGRAMS STARTED.

I HAVE SPOKEN TO PARENTS WHO PULLED THEIR KIDS OUT OF PLANO ISD DUE TO SOME OF THE PROGRAMS AND THAT I MENTIONED EARLIER.

PLANO ISD LEADERS FAILED AS IMPORTANT TO TEACH THE IDEAS IN THESE PROGRAMS. I SUGGEST OFFERING A PROGRAM TO TEACH THESE IDEAS TO THE PARENTS.

THE PARENTS CAN THEN DECIDE IF THEY, AS PARENTS WANT TO TEACH THESE IDEAS TO THEIR KIDS.

THEN THERE WOULD BE NO NEED TO SACRIFICE ACADEMICS AND WE COULD TAKE THESE PROGRAMS OUT OF THE SCHOOLS.

I WOULD LIKE TO REMIND PLANO ISD THAT PARENTS GET TO RAISE THEIR OWN KIDS, AND THE JOB OF PLANO ISD IS TO TEACH ACADEMICS.

LET'S MAKE PLANO ISD GREAT AGAIN.

ALL RIGHT. IF THERE'S NO FURTHER BUSINESS OR ANY OBJECTIONS FROM THE BOARD, THE MEETING IS ADJOURNED.

THE TIME IS 10:46 P.M..

THANK YOU.
