AT THIS TIME, I'M GOING TO ASK SUPERINTENDENT DR.

THERESA WILLIAMS TO VERIFY THAT WE ARE IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE PROVISIONS OF THE TEXAS OPEN MEETINGS ACT REGARDING THE NOTICE FOR THE MEETING.

PRESIDENT STOLLE I VERIFY THAT THIS MEETING HAS BEEN POSTED IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE PROVISIONS OF THE TEXAS OPEN MEETINGS ACT.

AND SO WE'RE GOING TO MOVE STRAIGHT ON TO ITEM NUMBER FIVE, WHICH IS THE REASON WE'RE HERE TONIGHT.

AND WE'RE GOING TO TURN THIS MEETING.

THIS IS A FIRST OF OUR PLANNING MEETINGS AS WE LOOK TOWARDS STRATEGIC PLAN AND LONG TERM VISION FOR THE DISTRICT.

THIS IS I'M REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THIS PROJECT AND I HOPE YOU ALL ARE, TOO.

THIS IS GOING TO BE A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO PUT A STAMP ON WHERE THE DISTRICT IS HEADED FOR THE NEXT PERIOD OF TIME AND SOMETHING THAT WE REALLY HAVEN'T DONE OUTSIDE THE SCOPE OF OF LONG TERM, OUR TRADITIONAL STRATEGIC PLAN.

AND SO THIS IS SOMEWHAT OF A NEW EXPERIENCE AND WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO IT.

BEFORE I TURN THIS OVER TO THERESA, I THINK WE ARE BROADCASTING.

AND SO THAT'S WHY I LOVE THE ROLE THAT I HAVE AND THE PLANNING THAT I DO FOR EDUCATION.

SO WE'LL TALK ABOUT WHAT THAT MEANS FOR US CONNECTING TOGETHER.

AND THEN I'M GOING TO WALK YOU THROUGH A CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION DESIGN PLANNING EXERCISE, WHICH IS WHERE YOU'RE GOING TO BE DOING MOST OF THE WORK TONIGHT, NOT ME, BECAUSE WE WANT TO HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS SO THAT WE CAN START TO PUT THOSE THOUGHTS TOGETHER IN A ROADMAP.

SO LET'S TALK ABOUT VLK CURATION.

WE BELIEVE THAT BEFORE WE DO ANYTHING AT VLK ARCHITECTS, WE CURATE, AND THIS IS THE PROCESS THAT I DESIGNED

WITH VLK ARCHITECTS WHEN I CAME ON BOARD, BECAUSE IT'S REALLY ABOUT MAKING SURE THAT WE ALL HAVE A COMMON UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT YOU DO IN EDUCATION AND ALL OF THE PIECES THAT THEN BUILD THAT SCAFFOLDING FOR WHEREVER IT IS WE'RE GOING TO GO.

SO IF WE'RE DOING A LONG RANGE PLAN, WE CURATE, IF WE GET HIRED TO DO A NEW HIGH SCHOOL AND MAYBE WE'RE ONE OF THREE DIFFERENT ARCHITECTS, WE STILL CURATE BECAUSE WE WANT TO MAKE SURE WE HAVE A DEEP UNDERSTANDING OF WHERE WE'RE COMING FROM.

IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT GIVING YOU A PLAN OR GIVING YOU A BUILDING, BUT REALLY UNDERSTANDING HOW WE'RE GOING TO WORK TOGETHER.

AND SO FOR PLANO ISD, WE'RE REALLY TALKING TO NOT ABOUT THAT FIRST STEP IN WHAT YOU'RE CALLING A ROADMAP.

SO I WANT EVERYBODY TO TAKE A DEEP BREATH.

RIGHT. SO SEE THAT ROAD? WE DON'T KNOW WHERE IT'S GOING YET.

IT'S A LONG JOURNEY POSSIBLY TO GET THERE BECAUSE WE'VE GOT TO MAKE SURE WE GET THE RIGHT THOUGHTS FROM THE RIGHT PEOPLE TO BE ABLE TO CREATE THE MAP.

SO IF YOU CAME TONIGHT THINKING THAT WE'RE GOING TO HAVE THIS GREAT LITTLE PLAN AND HAVE EVERYTHING FINISHED TONIGHT, THAT'S NOT WHAT WE'RE GOING TO DO.

SO I NEED YOU TO JUST BE COMFORTABLE KNOWING THAT THIS IS THAT FIRST STEP.

WE HAVE TO INVOLVE THE WORK THAT YOU'RE GOING TO DO TONIGHT, ALONG WITH A LOT OF THINGS THAT ROSS ASKED MR. HILL FOR, THINGS LIKE FACILITY CONDITIONS, ASSESSMENTS THAT HAVE BEEN DONE, YOUR ENROLLMENT, YOUR DEMOGRAPHIC STUDIES, ALL KIND OF CAPACITY STUDIES.

THERE ARE SO MANY THINGS THAT ROSS IS WORKING WITH THAT'S GOING TO HAVE TO BE COUPLED WITH THE WORK THAT YOU'RE GOING TO GIVE US TONIGHT, THOSE OUTCOMES.

SO JUST KNOW WE'RE ON A JOURNEY TOGETHER AND IT'S GOING TO ALSO BE CONNECTED TO THE WORK THAT YOU'VE ALREADY DONE.

WE'RE STUDYING THINGS LIKE YOUR STRATEGIC PLAN, THE PILLARS THAT YOU HAVE IN PLACE, ALL OF THAT'S GOING TO ALIGN.

WE'RE NOT GOING TO TRY TO TAKE YOU ON A WE'RE NOT GOING TO TRY TO TAKE A ROAD THAT'S GOING TO GO IN A DIFFERENT DIRECTION THAN THE ONE THAT WE'RE ALL TRYING TO CREATE.

SO CURATION ALSO IS ABOUT, LIKE I SAID, THE KIDS IN YOUR DISTRICT.

AND SO ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I MAKE SURE OUR EMPLOYEES KNOW IS THAT AS WE MOVE THROUGH GENERATIONS, WE HAVE TO THINK ABOUT HOW EDUCATION'S CHANGING AND ESPECIALLY KNOWING THAT WE'RE ALWAYS WORKING AND IN THE WORK THAT WE DO, WE'RE ALWAYS WORKING ON THE FUTURE.

SO WE KNOW THAT GENERATION Z HAS BEEN LEAVING OUR SCHOOLS AND THEY'RE JUST ABOUT GONE.

IN FACT, MY DAUGHTER IS GENERATION Z AND SHE'S A FIRST YEAR TEACHER THIS YEAR.

SO THEY'RE THEY'RE MOVING THROUGH YOUR SYSTEM.

AND WHERE WE ARE RIGHT NOW IS HAVING A GENERATION ALPHA THAT WE'RE EDUCATING.

AND THEY'RE GOING TO BE REALLY INTERESTING TO KNOW MORE ABOUT BECAUSE THEY ARE THE KIDS THAT HAVE NOW GONE THROUGH THE PANDEMIC.

AND WE DON'T KNOW IF THAT'S GOING TO BE THEIR MAIN POINT THAT DEFINES THEIR GENERATION.

BUT THESE ARE THE KIDS AND YOU KNOW THEM.

THEY'RE THE KIDS THAT THEIR SCREEN WAS MORE IMPORTANT TO THEM THAN THEIR BINKY OR THEIR PACIFIER.

WE CALLED IT A BINKY AT MY HOUSE.

AND WE KNOW THAT WE SEE TODDLERS IN THE RESTAURANT.

THEY'RE HAPPY AS LONG AS THEY HAVE THEIR SCREEN VIDEO IS AMAZING TO THEM.

THEY TELL STORY THROUGH IMAGERY AND SOUND THAT'S DIFFERENT.

SO THEY'RE REALLY INFLUENCING EDUCATION IN A DIFFERENT WAY THAN GENERATION Z DID.

WE ALSO UNDERSTAND NOW THAT BRAIN DEVELOPMENT IS EVEN DIFFERENT AND THE PLASTICITY OF THE BRAIN AND HOW THE FRONTAL LOBE OF THE DEFINITION OF ALL OF THE DEFINING FACTORS OF HOW THE BRAIN IS DEVELOPED IS NOW EXTENDING EVEN LONGER IN LIFE.

WHENEVER I WENT TO SCHOOL, WE THOUGHT THAT THE BRAIN WAS DEVELOPED BY ABOUT 18, SO WE THOUGHT WE WERE GRADUATING KIDS THAT WERE FULL ADULTS.

WE KNOW NOW THAT'S NOT THE CASE.

SO WE HAVE A STRONG BELIEF THAT THE THINGS THAT WE PLAN FOR HAVE LONG TERM EFFECTS.

EVEN WHEN THE STUDENTS LEAVE YOU, THEY'RE STILL NOT FULLY GROWN.

SO HOW CAN WE CREATE THE EXPERIENCES AND THE RIGHT SPACES FOR THEM TO BE ABLE TO BE THE BEST THAT THEY CAN BE? WE KNOW THAT TECHNOLOGY IS CRITICALLY IMPORTANT BECAUSE WE CAN'T TEACH WITHOUT TECHNOLOGY, AND WE KNOW THAT THE STUDENTS ARE COMING AS EXPERTS TO THE CLASSROOM.

SO I SHARE THAT WITH YOU BECAUSE THOSE ARE THINGS WE HAVE TO THINK ABOUT WHENEVER WE START THINKING ABOUT THE ACTIVITIES THAT YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TO WORK THROUGH TONIGHT.

WE ALSO KNOW THAT THE STATE IS REALLY PUSHING US WITH ACCOUNTABILITY AND WE HAVE TO BE MORE INQUIRY BASED AND YOU ALL DO A GREAT JOB OF THAT ALREADY, BUT

KIDS HAVE TO BE ABLE TO WORK TOGETHER, PROBLEM SOLVE TOGETHER, USING THEIR TECHNOLOGY AND HAVING TO THINK CRITICALLY TOGETHER AS GROUPS IN ORDER TO PROBLEM SOLVE, WHICH WE LIKE THAT BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR WHENEVER WE'RE HIRING, YOU KNOW, NEW INTERNS.

SO I SHARE THESE THINGS WITH YOU BECAUSE I WANT YOU TO KNOW THEY ARE THE UNDERGIRDING OF THE THINGS THAT I WANT YOU TO KEEP IN THE BACK OF YOUR MIND WHENEVER YOU THINK ABOUT THE WORK THAT YOU HAVE TO DO TONIGHT.
