WOULD MY FELLOW TRUSTEES LIKE TO SHARE ANY COMMENTS? I THINK AT THE LAST MEETING WE HAD A REPORT ON EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES AND WE TALKED ABOUT THE LINK BETWEEN EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES AND STUDENT PERFORMANCE, AND I THINK TONIGHT'S RECOGNITIONS PRETTY MUCH PROVES THAT THERE'S A DIRECT CORRELATION TO INVOLVEMENT IN YOUR EXTRACURRICULARS AND YOUR WHAT YOU LEARN FROM YOUR COACHES AND YOUR TEAMS AND THE SKILLS YOU BUILD AND THE CHARACTER YOU BUILD, AND I THINK THAT'S GOING TO SET YOU UP VERY WELL FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE AS YOU GO ON TO SOME AMAZING COLLEGES AND CONTINUE TO SMASH ADDITIONAL RECORDS.

I'LL ECHO CODY'S SENTIMENT THERE THAT I THINK IT'S WONDERFUL AND I'M VERY GLAD--JEFF THERE YOU ARE--THAT YOU ADDED IN THEIR GPAS AND THESE ELITE COLLEGES AND GREAT COLLEGES THAT YOU GUYS ARE GOING TO.

I MEAN THAT'S WONDERFUL BEING ABLE TO BALANCE SUCH GREAT ACADEMIC SUCCESS WITH JUST OUTSTANDING AND AMAZING ATHLETIC SUCCESS, AND I AGAIN, THANK YOU TO THE COACHES, BUT ALSO THANK YOU TO THE PARENTS.

THIS IS A TEAM EFFORT WITHIN YOUR FAMILY TO SUPPORT YOUR ELITE ATHLETES AND I THINK THAT WE AS TRUSTEES DON'T TAKE THAT LIGHTLY YOUR COMMITMENT AS PARENTS, AND SO THANK YOU TO THE FAMILIES ALSO AND CONGRATULATIONS AND GOOD LUCK IN COLLEGE.

YOU KNOW, I WAS GOING TO SAY SOMETHING, TOO, I WAS GOING TO SAY THAT ABOUT THE PARENTS.

PARENTS, THANK YOU FOR GETTING THEM TO PRACTICE ALL THESE YEARS AND SUPPORTING THEM AND MAKING SURE THAT THEY'RE DOING THEIR BEST, AND KIDS, THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR HIGH EXCELLENCE. I MEAN, YOU MAKE US LOOK GOOD IN PLANO AND SO GOOD LUCK IN COLLEGE, AND YOU GUYS ARE GOING TO AMAZING PLACES.

[APPLAUSE] OKAY, SO WE'RE GOING TO TURN THIS BACK OVER TO DR.

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY MY MOST FAVORITE PART OF THE JOB.

I WOULD LIKE TO NOW INVITE JEREMY KONDRAT, COORDINATOR FOR INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC, TO THE PODIUM FOR A SPECIAL STAFF RECOGNITION.

GOOD EVENING, EVERYONE.

IT'S WONDERFUL TO SEE YOU ALL THIS EVENING.

WE HAVE A VERY SPECIAL RECOGNITION FROM OUR ORCHESTRA DEPARTMENT TONIGHT.

THE TEXAS ORCHESTRA DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION NAMED NICOLE BROWN, THIS YEAR'S ORCHESTRA DIRECTOR OF DISTINCTION.

SHE IS THE ORCHESTRA DIRECTOR AT ARMSTRONG MIDDLE SCHOOL.

THIS WILL BE HER SECOND TIME RECEIVING AN AWARD FROM TODA.

HER FIRST WAS IN 2005 AS THEIR YOUNG STRING TEACHER OF THE YEAR.

THIS PRESTIGIOUS AWARD IS PRESENTED TO A TEXAS ORCHESTRA DIRECTOR EACH YEAR WHO HAS TEN OR MORE YEARS OF TEACHING EXPERIENCE, EXEMPLIFIES EXCELLENCE AND TEACHING, AND HAS SHOWN A COMMITMENT TO LIFETIME SERVICE AND LEADERSHIP IN TEXAS.

MISS BROWN WAS NOMINATED BY HER PEERS THROUGHOUT THE STATE, WHO PRAISED HER FOR BEING A MULTI-TALENTED PERSON WHO IS PEOPLE CENTERED AND WORKS TO INSTILL BOTH SKILL AND A LOVE OF MUSIC IN OUR YOUTH AS REASONS FOR HER NOMINATION.

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, WOULD YOU PLEASE JOIN ME IN CONGRATULATING MS. NICOLE BROWN ON THIS WONDERFUL, DISTINGUISHED HONOR? NICOLE, IF YOU'LL JOIN US UP HERE.

[APPLAUSE] SO WHILE PICTURES ARE BEING MADE, I'LL INVITE MY FELLOW TRUSTEES IF YOU HAVE ANY COMMENTS. OH, I FORGOT ONE THING.

SHE SMASHES HER GPA EVERY DAY.

[LAUGHTER] THANK YOU. WELL, I WILL JUST ADD, AS A FORMER MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHER, I KNOW THAT THERE'S A SPECIAL PLACE IN HEAVEN FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHERS, [CHUCKLING] AND AS A FORMER PARENT OF MIDDLE SCHOOL INSTRUMENTALISTS, THERE'S A SPECIAL PLACE FOR ANYONE

[00:15:04]

WORKING IN MUSIC IN MIDDLE SCHOOL AND THAT BRINGING OUT THAT LOVE OF MUSIC EARLY AND CELEBRATING THAT IS JUST A GREAT THING FOR OUR STUDENTS, FOR OUR COMMUNITY.

SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH, MS. BROWN. APPRECIATE ALL OF YOUR WORK AND YOUR DEDICATION.

THANK YOU.

GO AHEAD. OKAY, SO I DID ORCHESTRA AT CARPENTER, CLARK AND THEN PLANO EAST WHEN I WAS A STUDENT HERE, AND SO I AM VERY EXCITED TO SEE SUCH A STRONG PROGRAM.

WHEN I THINK BACK ABOUT THE NINETIES AND I THINK BACK ABOUT WHAT PLANO ISD WAS KNOWN FOR AND AT THE TIME, PLANO EAST AND PLANO SENIOR HIGH AND PLANO WEST WERE ALWAYS LIKE TRADING THE TOP STOP SPOT IN THE STATE FOR ORCHESTRAS, AND IT REALLY MAKES ME HAPPY THAT HAS PERSISTED AND THAT HAS ENDURED AND THAT AS THE STAFF HAVE TURNED OVER IN THE 20 YEARS SINCE, THAT LEGACY HAS REALLY REMAINED, AND WHEN I THINK BACK ABOUT MY TIME AS A STUDENT HERE, I THINK THAT'S ONE THING THAT REALLY HAS NOT CHANGED, THAT WE AS A DISTRICT CAN BE REALLY, REALLY PROUD OF AND THAT THE GRADUATES ARE REALLY PROUD OF, AND I BET IF YOU COMPARE THE GPA OF YOUR STUDENTS, WE WOULD ALL BE VERY IMPRESSED.

SO I'M GOING TO GO AHEAD AND GIVE YOU CREDIT FOR GPA, TOO.

SO, THANK YOU AND CONGRATULATIONS ONCE AGAIN.

WE WILL NOW TURN TO DR.

KATRINA HASLEY, WHO'S GOING TO RECOGNIZE OUR OUTSTANDING STAFF MEMBERS.

THANK YOU, PRESIDENT STOLLE.

I INVITE DR. RHONDA DAVIS TO THE PODIUM.

SHE IS OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR FOR ADVANCED ACADEMICS AND COLLEGE CAREER MILITARY READINESS, AND SHE WILL INTRODUCE THESE AWARDS.

THANK YOU, DR. HASLEY, THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING US TO COME BEFORE YOU TONIGHT TO HONOR THESE TWO. WE ARE VERY PROUD TO HAVE THESE TWO OUTSTANDING SCIENCE EDUCATORS IN PLANO ISD. SO IF YOU WANT TO GO TOE TOE ON GPA [CHUCKLING] HERE WE GO.

MARK LINDBERG, TECHNOLOGY TEACHER AT RENNER MIDDLE SCHOOL, AND DAN B., COMPUTER SCIENCE CURRICULUM SPECIALIST, WERE RECENTLY HONORED WITH AWARDS FOR COMPUTER EDUCATION.

MR. LINDBERG WAS NAMED THE 2022 DFW COMPUTER SCIENCE EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR BY THE DALLAS FORT WORTH COMPUTER SCIENCE TEACHERS ASSOCIATION.

HE WAS RECOGNIZED FOR HIS OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE GROWTH AND SUPPORT OF THE PLANO ISD MIDDLE SCHOOL COMPUTER SCIENCE PROGRAM AND FOR HIS COLLABORATION AND SUPPORT OF HIS PEERS. MR. LINDBERG ALSO COACHES THE RENNER MIDDLE SCHOOL ROBOTICS TEAM.

MR. LINDBERG, WILL YOU GO AHEAD AND COME TO THE FRONT AND BE RECOGNIZED, PLEASE? I'M GOING TO HAVE YOU--NO, I'M GOING TO HAVE YOU WAIT.

[CHUCKLING] THANKS FOR ASKING.

[CHUCKLING] PLANO ISD COMPUTER SCIENCE CURRICULUM SPECIALIST DAN B.

WAS AWARDED THE 2022 TEXAS COMPUTER EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION ADVOCACY AWARD.

THE AWARD RECOGNIZES AN INDIVIDUAL'S EFFORT TO ADVOCATE ON BEHALF OF STUDENTS AND TEACHERS FOR TECHNOLOGY RICH LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS AND EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES THAT MEET THE NEEDS OF ALL LEARNERS.

UNDER DAN'S LEADERSHIP, THE PROGRAM HAS GROWN FROM 600 TO OVER 2000 STUDENTS IN MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOLS IN PLANO ISD.

ALSO, HE HAS DEVELOPED INDUSTRY PARTNERSHIPS TO SUPPORT AFTERSCHOOL CODING FOR STUDENTS IN GRADES K THROUGH EIGHT AND STARTED A COMPUTER SCIENCE SUMMER BRIDGE PROGRAM FOR INCOMING FRESHMEN.

SO MR. B'S ALREADY AT THE FRONT, AND SO I'LL ASK NANCY TO GIVE THAT TO HIM, THANK YOU.

[APPLAUSE] SO, CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU BOTH, AND I'M GOING TO, AT THIS TIME, ASK MY FELLOW TRUSTEES IF YOU HAVE ANY COMMENTS.

HAVE ONE OR BOTH OF YOU BEEN HERE BEFORE RECEIVING A RECOGNITION LIKE IN THE PAST YEAR OR TWO OR THREE? I'VE PRESENTED.

YOU'VE PRESENTED, DEFINITELY LOOK FAMILIAR.

DEFINITELY SOUND FAMILIAR.

WE'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT THE WORK THAT PLANO ISD AND THAT YOU BOTH HAVE BEEN DOING THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT AND OTHER TEACHERS LIKE YOU, AND SO IT'S AMAZING.

I ACTUALLY HAVE A CLIENT WHO HE'S AN ECONOMIST BY TRADE, BUT HE SAID 50% OF HIS JOB IS

[00:20:03]

CODING AND THE FUTURE, YOU'RE NOT GOING TO GET AWAY FROM CODING, AND SO IT'S AWESOME THAT WE'RE ABLE TO OFFER THAT, AND THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU'VE DONE SO FAR TO IMPACT OUR KIDS AND SUPPORT EARLY STAGES OF CODING FOR OUR YOUNGEST.

SO I'M JUST GOING TO SAY ON A PERSONAL NOTE, AS THE FATHER OF A 26 YEAR OLD PLANO WEST GRADUATE WHO'S NOW A SOFTWARE ENGINEER, GAINFULLY EMPLOYED, AND OWNS HIS OWN HOME, THAT I AM VERY THANKFUL [CHUCKLING] FOR THE WORK THAT YOU GUYS ARE DOING AND I MEAN, THAT RIGHT THERE IS THE STORY OF WHAT YOU'RE DOING.

YOU'RE GROWING PROGRAMS HERE THAT ARE THE FUTURE AND THAT'S WHAT SOFTWARE ENGINEERING IS AND COMPUTER SCIENCE IS.

SO THANK YOU BOTH, AND CONGRATULATIONS FOR HONORS WELL-DESERVED.

SO THAT IS GOING TO CONCLUDE--I'M GOING TO LET SUPERINTENDENT BONSER.

I WOULD JUST LIKE TO CONGRATULATE ALL OF OUR AWARD WINNERS THIS EVENING AND STUDENTS, FOR ALL OF YOUR HARD WORK AND DEDICATION TO YOUR SPORTS.

WE ARE SO PROUD OF YOU AND SO THANKFUL THAT YOU'RE REPRESENTING THE DISTRICT AT THE STATE LEVEL AND DOING SUCH AMAZING THINGS, AND WE CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT YOUR FUTURE HOLDS BECAUSE IT IS SO BRIGHT, RIGHT, AND SO, PARENTS, WHAT A PROUD MOMENT FOR YOU WITH YOUR KIDS AND TO OUR STAFF, ARMSTRONG AND DAN AND MR. LINDBERG, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR COMMITMENT TO KIDS AND GROWING KIDS AND PROGRAMS AND ALL THOSE ALL THOSE THINGS THAT BRING KIDS TO SCHOOL EVERY DAY.

TODAY IS YOUR DAY, AND FOR OUR COACHES, YOU DO THE SAME THING.

FOR A LOT OF KIDS, YOU ALL ARE THE REASON THAT KIDS ARE COMING TO SCHOOL EVERY DAY EXCITED. NOT THAT EVERYTHING'S NOT EXCITING, BUT THIS IS THE JOY AND SO THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF HELPING OUR KIDS REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL.

SO YOU ALL HAVE A GREAT EVENING AND THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE.

THERE YOU GO. YEAH, I WAS GOING TO GO AHEAD.

STEAL THE THUNDER YOU ALL ARE FREE TO GO.

THANK YOU ALL FOR COMING.

[APPLAUSE] ALL RIGHT, SO, WHILE YOU ALL ARE MILLING ABOUT AND HEADING OUT, WE'RE GOING TO MOVE ON TO ITEM NUMBER FOUR, WHICH IS OUR PUBLIC COMMENTS RELATED TO AGENDA ITEMS. COMMENTS REGARDING NON AGENDA ITEMS WILL BE HEARD AT THE END OF THE MEETING.

[7.15. Approval of the Purchase of Wireless Telecom Service from T- Mobile USA, Inc. Presenters: Patrick Tanner, Assistant Superintendent for Technology Services; Johnny Hill, Chief Financial Officer]

, AND THIS IS.

THIS IS THE ITEM.

THIS IS THE FIRST ITEM THAT WAS REMOVED BY TRUSTEE WEAVER.

THE BOARD WILL HEAR FROM PATRICK TANNER REGARDING THE APPROVAL OF PURCHASE OF WIRELESS TELECOM SERVICES FROM T-MOBILE.

THIS WAS CONSENT TO JOHN.

AGENDA ITEM 7.15.

IT WAS, OF COURSE, REMOVED.

SO PATRICK. THANK YOU, PRESIDENT STOLLE, BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

BACK IN 2020, AT THE HEIGHT OF THE PANDEMIC, THE DISTRICT BASICALLY SURVEYED AND IDENTIFIED STUDENTS AS WELL AS STAFF THAT WERE IN NEED OF MOBILE DEVICES, AS WELL AS INTERNET CONNECTIVITY TO BE PROVIDED VIA MOBILE HOTSPOTS IN ORDER TO MEET OUR NEEDS OF REMOTE INSTRUCTION.

AS THE DISTRICT WENT INTO REMOTE LEARNING, DUE TO THE PANDEMIC.

PART OF OUR WAY TO PROVIDE THAT, WE REQUESTED FUNDING THROUGH THE CARES ACT, OPERATION CONNECTIVITY. WE IDENTIFIED ABOUT 1800 STUDENTS THAT WERE IN NEED OF MOBILE HOTSPOT CONNECTIVITY IN ORDER TO CONTINUE THEIR LEARNING FROM HOME.

WE BASICALLY AS PART OF THAT AGREEMENT, WE RECEIVED SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED PRICING FOR THE MOBILE HOTSPOTS.

THEY GAVE US A TWO YEAR OPTION TO BE RENEWED AFTER THE FIRST YEAR.

SO WE WENT THROUGH AND WE PROVIDED THOSE DEVICES FOR OUR STUDENTS AND THAT'S HOW WE CONTINUED OUR REMOTE LEARNING FOR THE 2021 SCHOOL YEAR.

AFTER THE FIRST YEAR WAS OVER, WE DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS STILL A POSSIBILITY THAT WE WOULD DO SOME VIRTUAL LEARNING IN THE UPCOMING SCHOOL YEAR AND THAT THERE MIGHT STILL BE A NEED FOR OUR STUDENTS TO HAVE CONNECTIVITY.

DURING THEIR ENROLLMENT PROCESS LAST YEAR, WE SURVEYED AGAIN ASKING FAMILIES, NUMBER ONE, DID THEY HAVE ACCESS TO A MOBILE DEVICE, AND NUMBER TWO, DID THEY HAVE ACCESS TO DEDICATED INTERNET IN THEIR HOME? AND THEN BASICALLY, NUMBER THREE, IF YOU DON'T HAVE EITHER OF THOSE, WOULD YOU LIKE ASSISTANCE FROM THE DISTRICT TO PROVIDE THAT? WE GATHERED THAT INFORMATION AND WE USE THAT TO RECONCILE WHAT OUR NEEDS WERE,

[00:30:05]

AND SO WE EXTENDED THE INITIAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN T MOBILE AS WELL AS VERIZON AT THE TIME TO PROVIDE THOSE SERVICES.

SO WE RECONCILED, UPDATED OUR INVENTORY AND DID THE PRICING BASED OFF THAT AGAIN.

NOW THAT WE FAST FORWARD TO THIS YEAR, WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD AGAIN TO SEE WHAT OUR NEEDS ARE WITH THE DISTRICT'S PLANS TO CONTINUE TO OFFER A VIRTUAL ACADEMY FOR NEXT YEAR.

COUPLED WITH THE FACT THAT WE KNOW THAT THERE'S STILL A NEED IN THE COMMUNITY WHERE THERE ARE STUDENTS, WHERE WE'RE TRYING TO HELP TO CLOSE THAT DIGITAL DIVIDE.

IDEALLY, FEDERAL FUNDING HAS COME THROUGH AGAIN THROUGH THE EMERGENCY CONNECTIVITY FUND.

BASICALLY, WE WERE ABLE TO TAKE THAT INFORMATION WE GATHERED DURING THE ENROLLMENT PROCESS, AND THEN REQUEST ADDITIONAL FUNDING TO HELP OFFSET THE COST OF DIGITAL HOTSPOTS AGAIN. SO FAR WE'VE BEEN APPROVED SOMEWHERE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD OF ABOUT $200,000 TO HELP PAY FOR DIGITAL HOTSPOTS, AND SO AS WE GO THROUGH THE ENROLLMENT PROCESS AGAIN THIS YEAR, WE PLAN TO EXTEND THOSE SERVICES ONCE AGAIN, AND SO THAT'S KIND OF WHERE WE ARE WITH THIS PROCESS WITH T-MOBILE.

THANK YOU. SO LET ME ASK FOR A MOTION AND THEN WE'LL COME BACK FOR ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION. SO MAY I HAVE A MOTION? I MOVED AT THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

APPROVES THE PURCHASE OF WIRELESS TELECOM SERVICE FROM T-MOBILE USA INC., UTILIZING THE SOURCE WELL COOPERATIVE CONTRACT.

I SECOND. SO I HAVE A MOTION BY NANCY HUMPHREY, A SECOND BY ANGELA POWELL THAT THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES APPROVES THE PURCHASE OF WIRELESS TELECOM SERVICE FROM T-MOBILE USA INC UTILIZING THE SOURCE COOPERATIVE CONTRACT.

SO IN TERMS OF COMMENT, SO CODY, DO YOU HAVE A COMMENT OR QUESTIONS? YEAH, FOR THE QUESTIONS.

WELL, SO FIRST, MR. TANNER, THANK YOU FOR THE RECAP ON WHERE WE'VE BEEN AND WHERE WE ARE AND WHERE WE'RE GOING. YOU KNOW, TO YOUR POINT ABOUT OUR VIRTUAL SCHOOL, OBVIOUSLY, IF WE HAVE STUDENTS THAT DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO INTERNET CONNECTIVITY, THERE'S A GAP IN THE EQUAL ACCESS TO BEING ABLE TO BE A VIRTUAL STUDENT.

THAT'S JUST NOT GOING TO HAPPEN WITHOUT IT.

SO I APPRECIATE THAT.

I APPRECIATE THE DISTRICT BEING PROACTIVE ON THAT.

I KNOW WHEN WE INITIALLY DID THIS, I THINK IT WAS CAPITAL ONE ALLOWED US TO SHIFT SOME FUNDS TO HELP COVER SOME OF THIS WHEN THE YEAH THROUGH THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION, WHEN COVID FIRST STARTED, AND SO I KNOW AT THE STATE LEVEL AND AT THE NATIONAL LEVEL, THIS IS PART OF THE ONGOING CONVERSATION.

SO I APPRECIATE THE UPDATE ON THAT, AND IT SOUNDS LIKE THIS IS GOING TO BE SOMETHING THAT WE CONTINUE TO FOLLOW AND CONTINUES TO BE A PART OF OUR ONGOING WRAPAROUND SERVICES.

AND WOULD WE CONSIDER THIS SOMETHING, A SORT OF WRAPAROUND SERVICE? YEAH. IT FEELS LIKE IT'S I FEEL LIKE THERE'S SOME INTERPLAY BETWEEN YOUR TWO DEPARTMENTS ON THAT. I THINK AT THE FEDERAL LEVEL THEY'RE LOOKING AT FUNDING AND THEY CALL IT THE HOMEWORK GAP, AND SO IT DOESN'T MEAN THAT WE HAVE TO HAVE A STUDENT THAT'S IN THE VIRTUAL ACADEMY THAT MIGHT NEED CONNECTIVITY.

SO IT'S MORE FAR REACHING THAN THAT.

SO I HOPE THAT THEY CONTINUE TO RECOGNIZE THE HOMEWORK GAP AND CONTINUE TO FUND IT FOR US. SO, DR.

GARBER, A QUESTION FOR YOU.

WE HAD THE PRESENTATION LAST TIME ABOUT THE WELCOME CENTER.

IS CONNECTIVITY OF A FAMILY WHEN THEY COME TO THE WELCOME CENTER A PART OF THE QUESTIONS OF LISTS TO SEE IF THAT'S SOMETHING THAT THEY NEED SO THAT WE CAN MAKE SURE? TO CODY'S POINT ABOUT THE WRAPAROUND SERVICES, MAKE SURE IT'S WE'RE PROACTIVE WITH IT, BECAUSE FAMILIES MIGHT NOT HAVE ANY CLUE THAT THAT IS SOMETHING WE WERE ABLE TO OFFER.

YES. THAT.

CONNECTIVITY DEVICES ARE REALLY EVERYTHING AROUND BEING A SUCCESSFUL STUDENT AT HOME AND IN SCHOOL IS ASKED.

SO DOES THIS FUTURE? IT'D BE GREAT TO SEE FOR THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR, SINCE THIS IS COVERING FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR, HOW MANY FAMILIES TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THAT IN DIFFERENT WAYS.

I THINK THAT WOULD BE INTERESTING FOR US TO KNOW.

I MEAN, I KNOW WE CAN'T DO THAT KIND OF DATA NOW, BUT IT WOULD BE INTERESTING TO SEE WHO'S TAKING ADVANTAGE OF AND WHAT THEIR NEEDS ARE WOULD BE GREAT REPORT.

THANKS. I CAN SAY WE HAVE SOMEWHERE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD OF ABOUT 1000 STUDENTS THAT ARE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF IT THIS YEAR ALONE.

SO THE NUMBERS ARE SIGNIFICANT.

PATRICK ARE WE DO HAVING THIS DISCOUNTED RATE OF 14.99 SOME SOMETHING LIKE THAT FOR THIS WI FI SPOT? WE'VE GOT A COMBINATION THROUGH DIFFERENT PROVIDERS WHERE THE NUMBERS WERE RANGED ANYWHERE FROM 10 TO $15 PER DEVICE PER MONTH FOR THE STUDENTS.

[00:35:01]

THAT IS REALLY GOOD BECAUSE LIKE, YOU COULD YOU COULD PAY UP TO $50 FOR THIS SERVICE IF YOU ARE DOING IT INDIVIDUALLY.

ALL RIGHT, THANK YOU. ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? AS A REMINDER, WE HAVE A MOTION BY NANCY AND A SECOND BY ANGELA THAT THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES APPROVES THE PURCHASE OF WIRELESS TELECOM SERVICE FROM T-MOBILE USA INC, UTILIZING THE SOURCE WELLS COOPERATIVE.

COOPERATIVE CONTRACT.

WE WILL PROCEED TO VOTE.

ALL IN FAVOR PLEASE RAISE YOUR HAND.

THE MOTION PASSES UNANIMOUSLY.

THANK YOU, EVERYBODY.

ITEM 8.4 IS THE SECOND OF THE THREE AGENDA ITEMS THAT TRUSTEE WEAVER ASKED TO HAVE

[7.21. Approval of a Resolution of the Plano Independent School District Board of Trustees Regarding Wage Payments to All Non-Exempt Employees of the District during Inclement Weather Closures Presenter: Dr. Beth Brockman, Assistant Superintendent for Employee Services]

REMOVED. SO WE WILL NOW HEAR THIS IS APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD REGARDING WAGE PAYMENTS TO ALL NONEXEMPT EMPLOYEES OF THE DISTRICT DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER CLOSURES, AND WE WILL HEAR FROM DR.

BROCKMAN REGARDING THIS.

THANK YOU. THE FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT DIVIDES EMPLOYEES INTO EXEMPT AND NON EXEMPT BUCKETS, IF YOU WILL.

EXEMPT EMPLOYEES OR PROFESSIONAL EMPLOYEES BY NATURE OF THEIR CONTRACT ARE PAID REGARDLESS OF SCHOOL CLOSURES FOR ICE WEATHER.

ANY OTHER EVENTS? HOWEVER, FOR YOUR NONEXEMPT EMPLOYEES, IT DOES REQUIRE ACTION FOR US TO COMPENSATE THEM OR LEAVE THEM WHOLE FOR THE YEAR WHEN WE'VE HAD CLOSURES, WHETHER IT WAS FOR COVID OR WEATHER THIS PAST YEAR, OUR GOAL HERE IS AROUND EMPLOYEE RETENTION AND KEEPING OUR EMPLOYEES THAT DEPEND HEAVILY ON THE WORK DAY TO DAY FOR THEIR PAYCHECKS, AND OUR DESIRE IS TO KEEP THEM WHOLE.

OUR CAMPUS EMPLOYEES WILL BE WORKING TO MAKE UP DAYS, BUT WE HAD THREE WEATHER DAYS.

OUR NON CAMPUS EMPLOYEES IMPACTED BY THIS WEATHER CLOSURE HAD VARIOUS SCHEDULES BUT MANY OF THEM HAD A WORK SCHEDULE THAT ALREADY HAD THEM WORKING ON THOSE BAD WEATHER MAKEUP DAYS. SO FOR THEM, WE'RE ALSO KEEPING THEM WHOLE.

HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY OTHER QUESTIONS.

SO THANK YOU.

DR. BROCKMAN. I KNOW TRUSTEE WEAVER.

ONE OF THE REASONS WE WANTED THIS ITEM PULLED WAS SO THAT WE COULD ACTUALLY READ THE RESOLUTION INTO THE RECORD, CORRECT? I MEAN, I WON'T DO THAT TO JERI.

I THINK WE'VE..

OH I'M READY. YOU READY? LET'S DO IT.

LET'S DO THIS. OKAY, JERRY, WET YOU'RE WHISTLE.

YEAH, LET'S DO IT.

ALL RIGHT, RESOLUTION OF THE PLANO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF TRUSTEES REGARDING WAGE PAYMENTS TO ALL NONEXEMPT EMPLOYEES OF THE DISTRICT DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER CLOSURES.

WHEREAS THE PLANO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT WAS CLOSED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER ON FEBRUARY 3RD THROUGH THE 4TH, 2022 AND FEBRUARY 24TH, 2022 AND WHEREAS, THE CLOSURES WERE IN THE BEST INTEREST OF THE SAFETY OF THE DISTRICT'S STUDENTS, COMMUNITY AND EMPLOYEES, AND WHEREAS, IN THE CASE OF THE CLOSURES AND TO MAINTAIN THE INTEGRITY OF THE 2021-2022 ACADEMIC CALENDAR, THE DISTRICT MAY UTILIZE ADDITIONAL OPERATIONAL MINUTES WITHIN THE APPROVED 2021-2022 ACADEMIC CALENDAR DESIGNATED BAD WEATHER MAKEUP DAYS ALLOCATED WITHIN THE 2021-2022 ACADEMIC CALENDAR.

MINUTES ACCRUED THROUGH THE STAFF DEVELOPMENT WAIVER OR MINUTES THROUGH A MISSED SCHOOL DAY WAIVER GRANTED BY THE TEXAS EDUCATION AGENCY, AND WHEREAS, THE CLOSURES PREVENT MANY DISTRICT NONEXEMPT EMPLOYEES FROM REPORTING TO WORK ON ASSIGNED WORKDAYS DURING THE CLOSURES, AND WHEREAS, THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES IS AUTHORIZED BY TEXAS EDUCATION CODE SECTION 45.105 AND BOARD POLICIES TO EXPEND FUNDS IN THE DISTRICT FOR PURPOSES NECESSARY IN THE CONDUCT OF THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS, AND WHEREAS, THE BOARD FINDS THAT A NEED EXISTS TO ADDRESS WAGE PAYMENTS FOR NONEXEMPT EMPLOYEES WHO ARE INSTRUCTED NOT TO REPORT TO WORK, AND WHO MAY SUFFER A LOSS OF PAY DURING THE CLOSURES.

WHEREAS, ALTHOUGH THE PLANO ISD IS NOT LEGALLY OBLIGATED TO PAY NONEXEMPT EMPLOYEES DURING SUCH CLOSURES, IT IS PERMISSIBLE TO PAY EMPLOYEES PURSUANT TO THE TERMS OUTLINED HEREIN, AND WHEREAS, CONTINUING WAGE PAYMENTS AS OUTLINED HEREIN SERVES THE PURPOSES OF MAINTAINING SAFETY, MAINTAINING MORALE, REDUCING TURNOVER, PROVIDING EQUITY BETWEEN IDLED EMPLOYEES AND EMPLOYEES TO PROVIDE WORK FROM HOME AND ONSITE EMERGENCY RELATED SERVICES AND ENSURING CONTINUITY OF DISTRICT STAFFING WHEN SCHOOLS REOPEN AND WHEREAS, ANY PAYMENTS MADE UNDER THIS RESOLUTION WILL BE, ACCORDING TO EMPLOYEES, NORMAL WORK SCHEDULES AND PAY RATES, AND WHEREAS, THE BOARD RETAINS SUFFICIENT CONTROLS

[00:40:03]

OVER PAYMENTS UNDER THIS RESOLUTION, AND WHEREAS, THE DISTRICT WILL RECEIVE A RETURN BENEFIT FROM SUCH COMPENSATION OF THE DISTRICT'S EMPLOYEES.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE PLANO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT AUTHORIZES PAYMENT TO ALL NONEXEMPT EMPLOYEES OF THE DISTRICT WHO ARE PREVENTED FROM WORKING ON ANY SCHEDULED WORK DAY DURING THE CLOSURES, ACCORDING TO THE TERMS OUTLINED HEREIN.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, ONE THE SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS OR HER DESIGNEE SHALL DETERMINE THE TIMING AND MANNER IN WHICH THE COMPENSATION IN THIS RESOLUTION SHALL BE PAID, AND THE TERMS OUTLINE HEREIN AND TWO, THE BOARD AUTHORIZES THE DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION TO CREATE OPERATING PROCEDURES AND OR REGULATIONS FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THIS RESOLUTION, AND THEN IT PASSED AND ADOPTED THIS FIVE DAY OF APRIL 2022.

THANK YOU. MAY I HAVE A MOTION? I MOVE THAT THE BOARD OF TRUSTEE APPROVES THE RESOLUTION OF THE PLANO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF TRUSTEES REGARDING WAGE PAYMENTS FOR ALL NONEXEMPT EMPLOYEES OF THE DISTRICT DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER.

SECOND. WE HAVE A MOTION FROM ANGELA POWELL SECOND BY CODY WEAVER.

THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES APPROVES THE RESOLUTION OF THE PLANO ISD SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF TRUSTEES REGARDING WAGE PAYMENTS FOR ALL NONEXEMPT EMPLOYEES OF THE DISTRICT DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER.

IS THERE A FURTHER DISCUSSION? YES. DAVID, I HAVE ONE QUESTION.

SO WHAT IS THE BUDGET IMPACT OF THIS RESOLUTION? I MEAN, JUST FOR THIS YEAR? THERE SHOULDN'T BE A BUDGET IMPACT BECAUSE WE WERE ALREADY COMMITTED TO PAYING THOSE RATES, THOSE WAGES FOR THE EMPLOYEES.

YEAH. JERI, THANK YOU FOR SO ENTHUSIASTICALLY READING THE RESOLUTION.

PRACTICE, I TOOK TIME TO PRACTICE.

I ONLY HAD A COUPLE OF FLUBS, I'M SURE, IN MY READING, MY READING RATE..NO THAT WAS WONDERFUL. I THINK THIS KIND OF DEMONSTRATES, AS WE DID BEFORE, DURING COVID AND DURING OTHER SITUATIONS IT'S NOT JUST A RECOGNITION OF THE STAFF THAT WE HAVE AND WANTING TO HAVE THE STAFF RETENTION, BUT ALSO WE'VE GOT THE GREAT RESIGNATION, WE'VE GOT INFLATION, WE'VE GOT ALL THESE THINGS AFFECTING OUR COMMUNITY.

YOU HAVE COMPETITION FOR BUS DRIVERS AND FANS AND YOU HAVE YOU KNOW, I'M DOING LEADERSHIP PLANNING RIGHT NOW, AND THE HOSPITALS DON'T HAVE ENOUGH NURSES.

THEY DON'T POLICE DEPARTMENTS DON'T HAVE ENOUGH POLICE OFFICERS.

I MEAN, EVERY SINGLE INDUSTRY IS AFFECTED BY STAFFING RIGHT NOW, AND SO ANYTHING WE CAN DO WITHIN REASON TO MAKE SURE OUR OUR STAFF IS COMPENSATED AND NOT HURT BY SOMETHING OUTSIDE OF THEIR CONTROL AND OUR CONTROL, I THINK WE HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO DO SO.

I'M HAPPY TO SEE THIS RESOLUTION AND HAPPY TO VOTE ON IT HERE IN A MINUTE.

OKAY, GOOD. I'LL JUST NOTE THAT ONE OF THE WHEREAS CLAUSES IS THAT THE DISTRICT WILL RECEIVE A RETURN BENEFIT FROM SUCH COMPENSATION OF DISTRICT EMPLOYEES.

AND I THINK WHEN YOU WHEN YOU TAKE ACTION TO SUPPORT YOUR, YOUR HOURLY EMPLOYEES AND ON DAYS WHERE THEY HAVE NO CONTROL OVER WHETHER THEY WORK OR NOT, IT DOES GO A LONG WAY IN PROVIDING BENEFIT TO THE DISTRICT.

ALL RIGHT, LET'S VOTE ON THIS, ALL IN FAVOR PLEASE RAISE YOUR HAND.

THE MOTION PASSES UNANIMOUSLY.

THANK YOU, EVERYBODY, AND OUR FINAL DISCUSSION AND ACTION ITEM IS THE THIRD OF THE THREE

[7.22. Approval of the Amended Interlocal Participation Agreement of the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Risk Management Fund (Unemployment) Presenter: Dr. Beth Brockman, Assistant Superintendent for Employee Services]

ITEMS THAT TRUSTEE WEAVER ASKED TO HAVE PULLED.

THIS IS APPROVAL OF THE AMENDED INTERLOCAL PARTICIPATION AGREEMENT, THE TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL BOARDS RISK MANAGEMENT FUND, AND AGAIN, WE WILL TURN TO DR.

BROCKMAN. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

PLANO ISD HAS UTILIZED THE TASB RISK MANAGEMENT FUND, THE UNEMPLOYMENT PORTION OF IT FOR MORE THAN 20 YEARS.

THE PISD IS SELF INSURED AND SELF FUNDED FOR UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE.

WHEN YOU CHOOSE TO GO THAT DIRECTION, YOU HAVE TO HAVE SOMEONE THAT WILL BE AN ADMINISTRATOR AND HELP YOU MANAGE THAT PROCESS.

OURS IS MANAGED THROUGH TASB OR TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL BOARDS.

OUR COST JUST FOR THOSE FOR THE FEE TO HAVE THEM AS OUR ADMINISTRATOR HAS BEEN 7000 ANNUALLY FOR THE LAST 11 YEARS AND HAS INCREASED TO 8000 THIS YEAR.

FOR THAT FEE, IT COVERS ALL OF THE ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES FOR UNEMPLOYMENT CLAIMS AS WELL AS OUR ACCESS TO A SPECIALIZED UNEMPLOYMENT ATTORNEY.

THEY ALSO SERVE AS THE INTERFACE BETWEEN THE DISTRICT AND THE STATE ON UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE AND CLAIMS RELEASING US FROM THAT BURDEN.

[00:45:06]

THE SERVICE HAS BEEN INVALUABLE TO US, ESPECIALLY IN WORKING THROUGH FRAUDULENT CLAIMS, AND I WANT TO GIVE JUST AN EXAMPLE.

DURING THE CALENDAR YEAR OF 2021, TASB HELPED US IDENTIFY AND SUCCESSFULLY DISPUTE 309 FRAUDULENT UNEMPLOYMENT CLAIMS, AND THIS WAS OF THE 544 UNEMPLOYMENT CLAIMS THAT WERE FILED AGAINST THE DISTRICT, A PRETTY IMPRESSIVE RETURN ON OUR INVESTMENT.

WE PAY QUARTERLY FOR THE UNEMPLOYMENT CLAIMS THAT ARE VALID OR NOT SUCCESSFULLY DISPUTED, AND WE HAVE PAID A TOTAL OF $996,000 IN THE BUDGET YEARS 2017 THROUGH 2021 FOR ACTUAL UNEMPLOYMENT CLAIMS. THIS AMOUNT, OF COURSE, IS IN ADDITION TO THE ANNUAL FEE FOR SERVICE THAT WE PAY EACH YEAR, AND FINALLY, IMPORTANT, BUT MAYBE NOT QUITE AS IMPORTANT, THEY PROVIDE ACCESS TO CONTINUING EDUCATION AND A NUMBER OF AREAS THAT OUR RISK MANAGEMENT STAFF UTILIZE PRACTICALLY ON A MONTHLY BASIS.

ALL RIGHT, SO AS WITH A THE OTHER, WE'LL TAKE A MOTION FIRST AND THEN WE'LL PAUSE FOR COMMENT. SO MAY I HAVE A MOTION? I MOVE THAT THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES APPROVES THE INTERLOCAL PARTICIPATION AGREEMENT OF THE TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL BOARDS RISK MANAGEMENT FUND TO ENSURE CONTINUED COVERAGE IN FUND PROGRAMS? I SECOND.

I HAVE A MOTION BY JERRY CHAMBERS, A SECOND BY NANCY HUMPHREY THAT THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES APPROVES THE INTERLOCAL PARTICIPATION AGREEMENT OF THE TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL BOARDS RISK MANAGEMENT FUND TO ENSURE CONTINUED COVERAGE IN FUND PROGRAMS. AND SO WE'LL PAUSE FOR DISCUSSION, AND SO, CODY, YOU HAD THIS ONE PULLED, DO YOU HAVE COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS HERE? YEAH, JUST IN TERMS OF THIS, REGARDLESS ABOUT HOW ANYBODY FEELS ABOUT TASB, THIS SAVES TAXPAYERS MONEY.

IF WE DIDN'T USE THIS FUND, WE'D HAVE TO GO OUT AND GET OUR OWN ATTORNEYS AND HAVE TO DO A WHOLE BUNCH OF STUFF, AND SO THE SAME WAY.

TELL ME IF I'M ACCURATE IN SAYING THIS THE SAME WAY THAT WE HAVE OUR PURCHASING GROUP POWER CO-OP.

THIS IS LIKE HAVING A UNEMPLOYMENT LAWYER CO-OP THAT OTHER DISTRICTS UTILIZE, AND IT DOES US A GREAT FINANCIAL SERVICE AND ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICE, AND THERE'S GREAT BENEFIT TO THIS, AND THE ALTERNATIVE IS VERY COSTLY.

ABSOLUTELY. THANK YOU.

BETH, JUST OUT OF CURIOSITY, WHO FILES FRAUDULENT CLAIMS? I MEAN, PEOPLE OUT OF OUR DISTRICT OR PEOPLE IN OUR DISTRICT? YES. [LAUGHING] THERE WAS A RISE AT IN THE INITIAL SHUTDOWN OF INDUSTRY EVERYWHERE IN THE RESPONSE TO COVID PANDEMIC, THERE WAS A RISE IN FRAUDULENT UNEMPLOYMENT CLAIMS, NOT JUST ISOLATED TO EDUCATION, BUT ACROSS ALL INDUSTRIES.

NOT ALL FRAUDULENT CLAIMS ARE FROM A POINT OF MALICE.

SOME ARE COMING, A FEW ARE COMING FROM PEOPLE THAT MISUNDERSTAND WHAT THEY ARE, WHAT IS ALLOWABLE ON AN UNDER UNEMPLOYMENT, BUT WE HAD BOTH DURING THAT TIME, WHICH WAS OUR HIGHEST POINT, FRAUDULENT CLAIMS. WE HAD EMPLOYEES FILING CLAIMS THAT THEY WERE NOT ENTITLED TO, BUT WE ALSO HAD NON EMPLOYEES TRYING TO FILE IN THE NAME OF EMPLOYEES.

AND SO OUR WORK WITH TASB ALLOWED US TO IDENTIFY THOSE AND THEN ALSO WORK WITH THOSE EMPLOYEES THAT, HEY, YOUR NAME WAS USED, YOUR INFORMATION WAS USED AND TO ASSIST THEM THROUGH THAT PROCESS.

BETH, DID YOU SAY THAT I JUST DID SOME VERY QUICK MATH.

YOU SAID THERE WERE 544 CLAIMS LAST YEAR, IS THAT RIGHT? IT WAS IN THE YEAR OF 2021, AND THAT'S HOW MUCH WE PAY SOMETIMES THE QUARTERLY THAT'S WHEN IT'S POSTED TO THE BUDGET.

SOMETIMES THE QUARTERLY AMOUNT OWED ACTUALLY COMES OUT THE NEXT YEAR.

OH NO, NO. I MEANT THE, THE NUMBER OF CLAIMS THAT THEY PROCESSED 544 AND THEN AND WE PAID $7000 LAST YEAR, FOR THE SERVICE? FOR THE SERVICE. SORRY.

THE SERVICE IS AN ANNUAL PAYMENT.

SO WE PAID $12.86 PER CLAIM, AND I WOULD DARE SAY THAT WE COULD NOT HAVE ANYBODY IN THIS BUILDING WORK A CLAIM FOR $12.86.

SO I THINK TO YOUR POINT, CODY, WE'RE GETTING THE BANG FOR OUR BUCK HERE IS SOMETHING

[00:50:08]

THAT WE'RE GETTING. YEAH. IT'S PRUDENT USE OF OUR MONEY, AND THIS IS GOOD FINANCIAL STEWARDSHIP. THIS IS WHAT PEOPLE WANT TO SEE, AND THIS PROGRAM DELIVERS ON THAT.

SO THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRESENTATION ON IT.

ALL RIGHT, ANY FURTHER COMMENT? ALL RIGHT, LET'S VOTE. ALL IN FAVOR, PLEASE RAISE YOUR HAND.

THE MOTION PASSES UNANIMOUSLY.

THANK YOU ALL, AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE.

WE WILL NOW MOVE TO ITEM NINE REPORTS, AND OUR FIRST REPORT IS A PRELIMINARY SCHOLASTIC

[9.1. Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) - A Path to College Readiness Presenter: Dr. Katrina Hasley, Assistant Superintendent for Academic Services]

APTITUDE TEST FOR THE PSAT.

REGARDING A PATH TO COLLEGE READINESS AND DR.

HASLEY WILL PRESENT.

THANK YOU, DR. STOLLE.

STACY SINGLETON IS COMING TO THE PODIUM FOR PRESENTATION.

HE IS OUR CCMR ADVISOR IN DR.

DAVIS'S DEPARTMENT AND WE ARE VERY EXCITED TO HAVE HIM HERE AND HE WORKS CLOSELY WITH LOTS OF OTHER DEPARTMENTS AND HE DOES A GREAT JOB ANALYZING DATA FOR COLLEGE READINESS, AND SO THAT WE PRESENTED TONIGHT OUR PSAT DATA FROM 2021.

THANK YOU. DR. HASLEY, PRESIDENT STOLLE.

SUPERINTENDENT BONSER, DR.

WILLIAMS, SOON TO BE SUPERINTENDENT.

I'M NOT SURE HOW TO ADDRESS THAT.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES. THANKS FOR HAVING ME TONIGHT.

I'M VERY EXCITED TO PRESENT ON PSAT A PATH TO COLLEGE READINESS.

I'M THINKING ABOUT HAVING JERI COME DOWN HERE AND PRESENT THIS AFTER ALL OF THAT WONDERFUL READING THAT YOU JUST DID.

I THINK YOU COULD DO A BETTER JOB THAN ME RIGHT NOW, BUT SO WE OFFER THE PSAT TO ALL NINTH AND 10TH GRADERS, THE PSAT [INAUDIBLE] AS AN OPTION TO 11TH GRADERS IN THE FALL, AND THEN THE SAT TO ALL JUNIORS DURING THEIR SPRING SEMESTER.

THE VALUE OF OFFERING THESE EXAMINATIONS IS FINDING EXACTLY WHERE OUR STUDENTS ARE IN REGARDS TO COLLEGE READINESS PRIOR TO THEM TAKING THE SAT AS A JUNIOR.

THE PSAT ALSO ASSISTS IN SHOWING STUDENTS WHO HAVE AP POTENTIAL.

THERE ARE MULTIPLE BENEFITS TO STUDENTS BEING COLLEGE READY ON THE SAT.

FOR THE DISTRICT AND SENIOR HIGH CAMPUSES, IT IMPACTS US IN REGARDS TO ACCOUNTABILITY AND OUTCOME BONUSES.

AND FOR OUR STUDENTS, WHEN A STUDENT MEETS COLLEGE READINESS ON THE SAT, THEY ALSO MEET TEXAS SUCCESS INITIATIVE.

WE HAVE JUST CONCLUDED YEAR TWO OF ADMINISTERING THE PSAT NINE IN DISTRICT AND TODAY WE WOULD LIKE TO REVIEW THE DATA FROM THIS YEAR OF ALL OF OUR PSAT EXAMS AS WELL AS LOOK AT OUR UPCOMING PLANS FOR HOW WE WILL WORK TOWARDS INCREASING COLLEGE READINESS IN PLANO ISD. SO OUR AGENDA FOR THIS PRESENTATION INCLUDES A DATA REVIEW OF ALL OF OUR PSAT EXAMS, AS WELL AS A HIGH LEVEL OVERVIEW OF OUR THREE YEAR PLAN TO INCREASE COLLEGE READINESS ON OUR SAT THROUGH THE PSAT AND INTRODUCTION OF OUR UPCOMING PSAT, NMSQT AND SAT PREP PROGRAMS. SO ON THE FOLLOWING SLIDES, WE'RE GOING TO SEE A BREAKDOWN OF OUR 2021 FALL PSAT DATA. OUR DATA IS GOING TO INCLUDE AN OVERVIEW OF DISTRICT PSAT DATA SHOWING PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS MEETING COLLEGE READINESS BENCHMARKS AND A BREAKDOWN OF ETHNICITY AND GENDER. SO IN OUR TOP CHART IS AN OVERVIEW OF HOW OUR HOW WE AS A DISTRICT HAS HAVE PERFORMED ON THE PSAT NINE.

A FEW THINGS I'D LIKE TO POINT OUT FIRST IS DOWN AT THE BOTTOM YOU SEE OUR COLLEGE READINESS BENCHMARK.

SO IN FOR OUR STUDENTS TAKING THE PSAT NINE, THEY NEED TO MEET CERTAIN BENCHMARKS AT THE NINTH GRADE LEVEL. FOR EVIDENCE BASED READING AND WRITING STUDENTS NEED TO MEET THAT 410 SCORE OR HIGHER TO EXCUSE ME THEY NEED TO MEET SCORE 410 OR HIGHER IN EVIDENCE BASED READING AND WRITING.

IN MATH, THEY NEED TO SCORE 450.

SO THAT'S OUR COLLEGE READINESS BENCHMARKS FOR OUR STUDENTS ON PSAT NINE.

ALSO, I'D LIKE TO POINT OUT THAT STUDENTS IN THE STATE OF TEXAS, THE PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS TESTING ON PSAT NINE, ALL STUDENTS THAT TESTED 28% OF STUDENTS IN TEXAS THAT TESTED MET BOTH OF THOSE COLLEGE READINESS BENCHMARKS.

NATIONALLY, 33% OF THE STUDENTS THAT TESTED THE PSAT NINE MET BOTH OF THOSE COLLEGE READINESS BENCHMARKS.

SO NOW IF WE LOOK AT OUR DATA ACROSS THE TOP, WE TESTED 3679 9TH GRADERS LAST YEAR IN THE FALL OF 2021, AND 50% OF OUR STUDENTS THAT TESTED MET BOTH OF THOSE COLLEGE READINESS BENCHMARKS. SO AS A DISTRICT, ON THE WHOLE, WE ARE WELL ABOVE OUR STATE AND NATIONAL PERCENTAGES FOR PLANO ISD.

SO PLANO ISD IS KNOCKING IT OUT OF THE PARK FOR PSAT.

YOU CAN YOU'LL ALSO NOTICE HIGHLIGHTED IN GREEN THERE, THE PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS MEETING EVIDENCE BASED READING AND WRITING 67%, AND WE ALSO HAVE OUR STUDENTS TESTING IN MATH, 55% OF OUR STUDENTS MEETING THAT MATH COLLEGE READINESS BENCHMARK.

THE CHART BELOW ALSO ALLOWS US TO DIVE IN THE DATA JUST A LITTLE BIT DEEPER AND WE TAKE A

[00:55:03]

LOOK AT OUR ETHNICITY AND GENDER.

HERE WE SEE AREAS WHERE THERE ARE CERTAIN GROUPS THAT ARE STRUGGLING.

THE RED BOXES INDICATE GROUPS THAT HAVE SCORED AT OR BELOW THAT NATIONAL PERCENTAGE.

SO WE SEE OUR HISPANIC AND LATINO POPULATIONS IN OUR BLACK AFRICAN AMERICAN POPULATIONS THAT ARE SCORING BELOW THAT 33% MET ON BOTH EVIDENCE BASED READING AND WRITING AND MATH.

SO I HAVE QUESTIONS. YES MA'AM.

SORRY AND.. NO, GO RIGHT AHEAD. SO I LOOKED AT THE DELTA BETWEEN TESTERS AND ENROLLMENT, AND IT'S ONLY 10% OF OUR STUDENTS WHO AREN'T TESTING, AND WE GENERALLY HAVE A SPECIAL ED POPULATION THAT'S HIGHER THAN 10%.

SO DO WE KNOW LIKE I WAS MAKING AN ASSUMPTION THAT SPECIAL ED KIDS OR WHO AREN'T TESTING SO TWO QUESTIONS WHO ARE THE YOU KNOW A PROFILE OF A KIDS WHO AREN'T TESTING, AND THE SECOND QUESTION IS HOW HAVE WE BEEN DOING THE PSAT AT NINTH GRADE? SO THIS IS OUR SECOND YEAR TO DO THE PSAT NINE OH.

OKAY. SO THIS IS ONLY OUR SECOND YEAR.

SO WE'RE THIS IS AS FAR AS THAT PROFILE OF WHO'S NOT TESTING STUDENTS THAT MAY BE ABSENT.

THEY MAY HAVE MISSED THE EXAM.

SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENTS MAY BE MAY NOT BE TAKING IT.

SO MOST OF THOSE STUDENTS THAT HAVE NOT TESTED ARE THOSE STUDENTS THAT ARE ABSENT, AND IS THE RATIONALE FOR TAKING THE PSAT STARTING NINTH GRADE BECAUSE OF THE CCRM INITIATIVES? IS THAT WITH THE CAN SEE THOSE STUDENTS THAT ARE NOT MEETING THOSE COLLEGE READINESS BENCHMARKS SO THAT WE CAN START WORKING WITH THEM TO GET THEM READY FOR THAT SAT AS A JUNIOR.

THAT'S REALLY OUR OVERARCHING GOAL.

AND I JUST WANT TO POINT OUT..

YES MA'AM. WE PAY FOR THAT EXAM.

YES, COMPLETELY FREE FOR PSAT 9 AND PSAT 10.

YES, MA'AM. ALL RIGHT, THANK YOU.

FOR STUDENTS. YEAH.

QUESTION. SO FOR THE TWO DEMOGRAPHICS THAT ARE IN RED, TWO QUESTIONS.

ONE, WHY DO WE THINK THAT IS? AND TWO, WHAT ARE WE DOING TO IMPROVE THAT? SO I DON'T KNOW THE WHY, WE DON'T KNOW THE WHY, BUT WHAT WE'RE DOING TO IMPROVE IT IS WE'RE WORKING WITH CAMPUSES, WE'RE LOOKING AT THE DATA, WE'RE IDENTIFYING THE STUDENTS, AND THAT'S PART OF OUR THREE YEAR PLAN THAT WE'RE GOING TO BE LOOKING AT, IS IDENTIFYING STUDENTS THAT ARE ARE STRUGGLING, THAT ARE NOT MEETING THOSE COLLEGE READINESS STANDARDS.

HOW CAN WE WORK WITH THESE STUDENTS? WHERE CAN WE PUSH IN? WHAT CAN WE ADD FOR SUPPORTS FOR STUDENTS? SO THAT'S PART OF THAT THREE YEAR PLAN THAT WE'RE GOING TO BE LOOKING AT.

SO BY STARTING THIS IN THE NINTH GRADE, YOU'RE ABLE TO DO A MUCH EARLIER INTERVENTION, CORRECT? SO WE'RE TRYING TO GET THEM EARLY ON, NINTH GRADE, WORK WITH THEM PRIOR TO THAT JUNIOR YEAR, WHENEVER IT REALLY MATTERS ON THAT SAT.

THAT'S WHERE WE REALLY WANT TO HIT THEM HARD, MAKE SURE THAT THEY'RE GETTING IT.

THAT COLLEGE READINESS ON THE SAT.

YES, I THINK THIS IS THIS IS JUST ANOTHER DATA POINT THAT WE'VE SEEN IN OTHER METRICS THAT ARE STRUGGLING COMMUNITIES ARE OUR HISPANIC COMMUNITY AND OUR AFRICAN-AMERICAN COMMUNITY, AND SO I KNOW WE'VE TALKED ABOUT THIS BEFORE, THAT IS A FOCAL POINT TO FIGURE OUT THE WHY, AND THEN..

YES SIR. IMPLEMENT THE CORRECTIVE MEASURES THAT NEED TO BE IMPLEMENTED TO GET THOSE KIDS UP. YES, SIR.

JUST TO POINT OUT TO GOING BACK TO SOMETHING YOU SAID, YOU SAID NOT ONLY THIS IS TO HELP STUDENTS PREPARE TO BE READY TO TAKE SAT THEIR JUNIOR YEAR.

YOU SPECIFICALLY MENTIONED AP CLASSES TO IDENTIFY KIDS WHO MAY BE A GOOD FIT FOR ADVANCED PLACEMENT CLASSES, AND WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE DEMOGRAPHIC BREAKDOWN, YOU WOULD THINK THAT WE HAVE SOME DEMOGRAPHICS OF STUDENTS WHO MAY BE GOOD FOR AP CLASSES ONCE THEY GET THERE, BUT JUST NEED A LITTLE EXTRA HELP WITH EARLY INTERVENTION.

SO THAT EARLY INTERVENTION, BACK TO CODY'S POINT, I THINK, IS KEY TO ENSURING THAT WE ARE NOT MISIDENTIFYING HISPANIC STUDENTS OR BLACK STUDENTS.

THAT WOULD BE A GOOD FIT FOR AP CLASSES AND ENSURING THAT WE HAVE A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD WHEN ENTERING THOSE UPPER LEVEL COURSES TO NOT JUST SAT, BUT THE POTENTIAL FOR THOSE COLLEGE CREDIT COURSES, RIGHT? THERE'S AP POTENTIAL REPORTS THAT COME STRAIGHT FROM COLLEGE BOARD THAT WE UTILIZE, THAT OUR COUNSELORS UTILIZE.

SO THIS IS A COLLABORATIVE EFFORT.

THIS IS WE WORK WITH OUR WITH OUR COUNSELING DEPARTMENT.

WE WORK WITH RB, WE LOOK AT ALL THE DATA AND WE PULL THESE REPORTS AND WE TARGET IN THOSE STUDENTS TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY'RE ENTERING IN THE AP COURSES, THAT WOULD BE SPECIFIC FOR THEM THAT THEY THAT THEY WOULD BE MOST LIKELY TO EXCEL IN.

YES, MA'AM. WELL, DO YOU KNOW WHAT? WHEN I LOOK AT THESE NUMBERS, I'M THINKING, DON'T WE HAVE A MENTORING PROGRAM, A TOURING PROGRAM FOR THESE STUDENTS THAT NEED HELP? I WOULDN'T BE I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THAT FOR SURE.

I'M NOT FOR SURE ABOUT THAT.

OKAY, BUT I THINK THAT'S PART OF WHAT YOUR SOLUTION IS, THAT THE REMAINDER OF THIS SOME OF OUR PROGRAMS WILL BE WILL BE PROVIDING SOME ADDED SUPPORTS TO THEM.

THAT WILL BE PART OF OUR THREE YEAR PROGRAM.

THERE WILL BE SOME ADDITIONAL SUPPORTS THAT WILL BE ADDED INTO THEM.

[01:00:01]

YES. SO I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT YOU KNOW SOMETHING THAT JERRY BROUGHT UP WAS THE 10% DELTA OF THE STUDENTS THAT DIDN'T SIT FOR THIS.

IS ANY OF THAT EXPLAINED BECAUSE OF COVID AND ATTENDANCE THROUGH THAT? THIS WAS TAKEN IN FALL 2021.

WE DID HAVE A BIG SPIKE RIGHT THERE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE FALL OF 2021.

THAT COULD POTENTIALLY BE SOME OF IT.

SOME OF THOSE STUDENTS WOULD HAVE BEEN POTENTIALLY HAD COVID DURING THIS TIME.

SO THAT COULD HAVE BEEN A KEY FACTOR TO IT AS WELL.

OR THEY COULD HAVE BEEN LEARNING REMOTE BECAUSE THEY WOULDN'T BE TAKING THE PSAT FROM HOME. CORRECT. WE THEY WOULDN'T HAVE TAKEN IT FROM HOME.

WE WOULD HAVE ASKED THEM TO COME IN TO TAKE IT AS WELL.

OKAY. THANK YOU. WHAT WAS THE TESTING DATE? OCTOBER 16TH ISH.

YEAH. SO WE WERE SORT OF IN THE BACK END OF THAT FALL SPIKE, I THINK IT WAS OCTOBER 16.

DR. GOBER, WHEN WE HAD SPOKE ABOUT THE BOARD ADVISORY COMMITTEES AND THE DIVERSITY COMMITTEE, WE TALKED ABOUT IDENTIFYING UNDERREPRESENTED GROUPS FOR AP CLASSES, AND SO IS THIS AN INDICATOR THAT YOU USE? THAT'S WHAT HE'S REFERRING TO. THESE REPORTS, THESE TESTS GENERATE SOMETHING CALLED THE AP POTENTIAL REPORTS, AND THAT'S WHAT WE WOULD USE.

OKAY, VERY GOOD. COOL.

THANK YOU. I'D LIKE TO GO BACK AND ADDRESS TRUSTEE POWELL'S QUESTION ABOUT STUDENTS HAVING TUTORING AND INTERVENTION, AND YES, SOME OF THESE STUDENTS WHO DO NOT DO WELL IN PSAT MOST LIKELY WOULD BE QUALIFYING FOR INTERVENTION OR TUTORING ON CAMPUS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY. THE PROGRAMS THAT EACH CAMPUS HAS IN PLACE TO SUPPORT KIDS WHO NEED HELP, BUT I THINK IT'S ALSO IMPORTANT FOR US TO BE IN CONTEXT, BECAUSE THIS IS OUR SECOND YEAR TO DO THIS. THE FIRST YEAR WAS FALL OF 2020, AND THAT DEFINITELY WAS THE TIME PERIOD WHEN WE WERE NOT AS STABLE AS TO OUR STUDENTS COMING AND GOING AND WHAT WAS GOING ON.

SO REALLY, IT'S ONLY FAIR FOR US TO SAY THIS IS A SNAPSHOT NOW AND LOOKING AT WHAT WE'RE GOING TO DO MOVING FORWARD.

FOR THIS. I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT TOTO POINT THAT OUT, BUT THEN I ALSO WANT TO SAY THAT I ALSO NOW IT'S NOT FAIR TO ASK THIS TO SAY THIS, BUT I'LL SAY IT, IS WHAT CAN WE START BEGINNING TO DO IN LOOKING FOR THE NINTH GRADE.

YOU KNOW, BUT WE'LL GET THERE.

THIS IS A BIG DEAL THAT WE'VE NOW STARTED THE NINTH GRADE TO GIVE THEM TWO YEARS TO GET READY FOR THE PSAT.

SO I WANT TO MAKE TWO COMMENTS.

FIRST, WE HAVE A MAP THAT GOES THROUGH EIGHTH GRADE THAT GIVES US A CMR, CCR INDICATOR, BUT WE DID NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO CONTINUE DATA.

NINTH AND 10TH GRADE.

SO THIS IS ANOTHER DATA SET THAT WE CAN CONTINUE.

SO THIS WILL BE USED IN COMBINATION WITH THE EOC MAP SCORES COMING FORWARD WITH THE STUDENTS. SO I WANTED TO POINT THAT PIECE OUT, AND THEN THE OTHER JUST TO PIGGYBACK ON WHAT DR. GARBER MENTIONED EARLIER, THIS IS NOT WE DON'T HAVE GATEKEEPING CLASSES.

SO IF YOU HAVE A STUDENT, LET'S JUST HYPOTHETICALLY SAY THEY MIGHT FALL IN THIS LOWER PERCENTILE, BUT THEY'RE THEY HAVE THEIR IN AVID OR THEY HAVE THEIR OWN INDIVIDUAL READINESS TO WANT TO BE IN AN AP COURSE.

WE ALLOW OUR KIDS TO TAKE RIGOROUS COURSES SO WE DON'T KEEP KIDS OUT.

WE WE WE JUST USE THIS DATA AND THOSE REPORTS THAT AP POTENTIAL REPORT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE DID NOT MISS ANY STUDENT WHO COULD AND SHOULD BE IN ADVANCED COURSES.

THAT'S A GOOD POINT, BECAUSE IT COULD HAVE BEEN A BAD DAY WHEN THEY TOOK THE TEST.

WELL, AND THAT'S MY NEXT QUESTION, AND I DON'T EXPECT THE ANSWER NOW, BUT OUT OF THE LET'S CALL IT 15 OR 1400 STUDENTS THAT MAKE UP THOSE TWO DEMOGRAPHICS, IF IN A FUTURE BOARD UPDATE, IF YOU COULD LET ME KNOW WHAT PERCENTAGE OF THOSE ARE IN AVID, BECAUSE I THINK THAT'S A PROGRAM THAT EVERY STUDENT COULD BENEFIT FROM, BUT STUDENTS SPECIFICALLY THAT ARE NOT TESTING WELL COULD PROBABLY UTILIZE THAT PROGRAM MUCH MORE THAN OTHERS.

OKAY. ALL RIGHT, [INAUDIBLE].

DR. HASLEY, THANK YOU FOR ANSWERING MY QUESTION.

THE THING IS THAT I KNOW THAT WE HAVE TUTORIALS.

I KNOW DURING LUNCH TIME, OUR STUDENTS, IF THEY NEED TO HELP, THEY HAVE TUTORIALS.

SO DO WE. ARE WE GOING TO CONSIDER HAVING TUTORIALS FOR PRE SAT OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT? SO THERE'S SOMETHING THAT I'M GOING TO ADDRESS WHENEVER WE GET TO THE THREE YEAR PLAN THAT'S GOING TO TALK A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT TYING IN SOME SUPPORT THAT'S ACTUALLY GOING TO WORK WITH STUDENTS ON THE PRE SAT.

THAT WILL CLOSE GAPS FOR THESE STUDENTS PRIOR TO THE SAT.

OKAY, GREAT. THANK YOU. CAN I JUST ASK A QUESTION? WE JUST APPROVED A.

APPROVED SOME VENDORS FOR PSAT TEST PREP.

YES. ARE WE GOING TO TALK ABOUT IT? WE'RE GOING TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THOSE PROGRAMS. YES, MA'AM. THANK YOU.

SO THIS IS OUR OUR SAT TEN DATA.

SO SOMETHING I'M GOING TO POINT OUT AT THE BOTTOM, YOU'LL NOTICE OUR COLLEGE READINESS BENCHMARKS HAVE INCREASED.

[01:05:01]

SO EVERY YEAR OUR BENCHMARKS INCREASE FROM NINTH GRADE TO 10TH GRADE TO 11TH GRADE.

SO WE WENT UP FROM 410 TO 430.

AT THE 10TH GRADE LEVEL, MATH HAS GONE UP TO 480.

THE EVENTUAL ENDGAME IS THE SAT.

SO THE SAT IS WHERE OUR COLLEGE READINESS STANDARD IS, AND WE WANT THOSE STUDENTS SCORING A 480 ON THAT EVIDENCE BASED READING AND WRITING ON THE SAT AND A 530 ON MATH.

SO THAT'S REALLY OUR ENDGAME, BUT I JUST POINTING OUT THAT OUR COLLEGE READINESS BENCHMARKS HAVE GONE UP AT 10TH GRADE LEVEL.

SO THAT'S WHAT YOU'RE SEEING THERE, AND YOU'LL NOTICE THAT THE PERCENT MET, BOTH STATE PERCENT, MEANING BOTH OF THOSE COLLEGE READINESS BENCHMARKS FOR 10TH GRADE IS 29%.

NATIONALLY, IT'S 34%, AND IF YOU LOOK AT OUR DATA AT THE TOP, WE HAD 3425 TESTERS AT 10TH GRADE LAST FALL.

47% OF THOSE STUDENTS THAT TESTED MET BOTH OF THOSE STANDARDS OUTSTANDING AS A DISTRICT.

ON THE WHOLE, WE WERE WELL ABOVE BOTH THE STATE AND NATIONAL PERCENTAGES FOR EVIDENCE BASED READING AND WRITING. 69% OF OUR STUDENTS MET THAT EVIDENCE BASED READING AND WRITING COLLEGE READINESS BENCHMARK AND THEN MATH 49% ONCE AGAIN FOR THE ETHNICITY AND GENDER BREAKDOWN. YOU SEE THAT SAME TREND THAT WE SAW FROM NINTH GRADE.

YOU SEE THE HISPANIC, LATINO AND BLACK AFRICAN AMERICAN POPULATIONS SCORING BELOW THAT NATIONAL PERCENTAGE.

CAN I JUST MAKE A COMMENT? THE BENCHMARKS GO UP BECAUSE IT'S LOGICAL TO ASSUME THAT A NINTH GRADER HASN'T BEEN EXPOSED TO AS MUCH CONTENT AS A 10TH GRADER.

YES, MA'AM. AS THEY LEARN MORE, WE EXPECT THE STANDARDS TO GO UP.

YES, I JUST TO FOLLOW UP ON THAT, I MEAN, THAT MAKES SENSE.

I WOULD ALSO IN SOME WAYS EXPECT TO SEE MAYBE SOME GAINS AND WHO'S MEETING RIGHT AS KIDS ARE GETTING INTERVENTION OR IS IS THERE'S MORE FOCUS ON THIS OR THESE THESE STUDENTS.

THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THEY'VE DONE PSAT.

SO A LITTLE BIT MORE PREP.

I'M WONDERING IF YOU LOOK AT THIS COHORTS DATA FROM 2020.

IN THIS SPECIFIC COHORT, ARE WE SEEING GAINS FROM NINTH GRADE TO 10TH GRADE? WELL, WE'RE LOOKING AT A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT THINGS HERE.

NINTH GRADE, WE'RE TALKING THIS NINTH GRADE CLASS HAD COVID.

SO A LOT OF THESE STUDENTS DID NOT EVEN TAKE THE PSAT DURING THEIR NINTH GRADE YEAR.

SO IT'S HARD TO COMPARE THEIR DATA FROM THEIR NINTH GRADE YEAR TO THEIR 10TH GRADE YEAR.

AND THAT'S WHY WE'RE NOT COMPARING DATA RIGHT NOW, IS BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW THAT WE WENT THROUGH A PANDEMIC AND IT WAS REALLY ROUGH ON A LOT OF THESE KIDS.

SO WE'RE NOT LOOKING AT COMPARISON DATA RIGHT NOW.

GIVE ME ANOTHER YEAR, GIVE ME ANOTHER TWO YEARS AND I'LL COME BACK, AND WE'RE GOING TO LOOK AT SOME TREND DATA.

WE'RE GOING TO LOOK AT SOME COHORT DATA, AND WE'RE GOING TO SEE HOW OUR STUDENTS ARE DOING, BUT IT'S NOT FAIR TO THE KIDS TO KIND OF COMPARE LAST YEAR'S NINTH GRADERS TO THIS YEAR'S 10TH GRADERS AND SEE HOW THEY HAVE DONE PERIODICALLY.

WE HAVEN'T PUT IN THE SUPPORTS EITHER.

LIKE WE HAVEN'T COME IN AND PUSHED IN AND REALLY PROVIDED A THREE YEAR PLAN YET.

THAT'S WHAT WE'RE STARTING NOW.

WE WE HAVE KIND OF PUT THIS ON THE BACK BURNER WITH EVERYTHING GOING ON WITH COVID BECAUSE OF WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING.

SO THIS IS REALLY WHERE WE ARE STARTING.

THIS IS OUR GROUND GROUND ZERO, AND WE'RE GOING TO START NOW WITH THESE STUDENTS AND WE'RE GOING TO WE'RE GOING TO GET THEM TO WHERE THEY NEED TO BE.

YEAH, THAT WAS MY NEXT QUESTION, IS THAT ARE THESE KIDS, THIS THIS COHORT SPECIFICALLY WHEN I LOOK THROUGH ALL OF THIS DATA AND THE PACKET REVIEW, THIS THIS COHORT SPECIFICALLY THE MOST CONCERNED, AND SO IT SOUNDS LIKE THEY'RE GOING TO DEFINITELY GET SOME OF IT, AND HERE'S THE OTHER THING. NOT ALL KIDS ARE GOING TO BE COLLEGE READY, RIGHT? WE'RE GOING TO HAVE SOME KIDS THAT ARE GOING TO BE CAREER READY, AND WE WANT AS MANY KIDS AS POSSIBLE COLLEGE READY, AND PLANO DOES IT BETTER THAN 99% OF THE PEOPLE OUT THERE.

WE REALLY DO, AND WE ARE GOING TO CONTINUE TO GET AS MANY KIDS COLLEGE READY AS POSSIBLE AND SOME OF THE PROGRAMS THAT WE'VE GOT STARTED THAT ARE GOING TO HAPPEN THIS SUMMER AND THEY'RE GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT SPRING, ARE GOING TO GET MORE KIDS COLLEGE READY THAN WE'VE EVER HAD BEFORE. SO THESE KIDS RIGHT NOW ARE THE ONES WE'RE GOING TO BE FOCUSING ON.

I GREATLY APPRECIATE THIS SO MUCH, STACEY.

THANK YOU. MY.

THE ONLY QUESTION, I THINK IT'S GREAT AND I THINK IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT FOR US TO BE LOOKING AT HOW WE COMPARE WITH OTHER ENTITIES IN OTHER SCHOOLS AND OTHER STATES AND THAT KIND OF THING, AND THAT'S IMPORTANT.

AT THE SAME TIME, WE HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE MEETING THE NEEDS OF ALL OF OUR KIDS, AND WE ALL KNOW THAT I JUST AM VERY AND THE TWO SUBGROUPS THAT ARE NOT PERFORMING TO ME IS SOMETHING WE JUST REALLY NEED TO BE PAYING ATTENTION TO AND ACKNOWLEDGE THAT WE WANT ALL OF OUR SUBGROUPS TO BE BETTER THAN THE NATIONAL AVERAGE AND THAT THEY'RE CAPABLE OF DOING THAT, AND I KNOW WE'RE GETTING READY TO HEAR WHAT THE THREE YEAR PLAN IS, BUT I THINK IT'S JUST REALLY IMPORTANT FOR US TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT.

I LIKE THAT I HAVEN'T USED THIS FROM THE BOARD TABLE.

IT'S GREAT TO COMPARE OURSELVES WITH OTHERS, BUT I REALLY WANT TO COMPARE OURSELVES WITH US AND MAKING SURE THAT WE ARE ALWAYS DOING BETTER THAN WE CAN, AND I'M VERY PROUD OF US,

[01:10:05]

BUT WE STILL NEED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THERE'S WORK TO BE DONE.

TO THAT POINT, THESE STUDENTS IN THESE TWO DEMOGRAPHICS ARE NOT COMPARING THEMSELVES TO A NATIONAL AVERAGE. THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THE NATIONAL AVERAGE IS.

THEY'RE COMPARING THEMSELVES TO THEIR PEERS, AND SO THERE'S SELF ESTEEM.

THERE'S ALL KINDS OF OTHER ISSUES THAT CAN BE ASSOCIATED WITH THIS WHEN YOU ARE NOT MEETING ACADEMIC STANDARDS AND MEETING THE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF YOUR PEERS, AND SO THE YOU KNOW, IF WE LOOK AT HOW FAR AWAY FROM THE NATIONAL AVERAGE THAT'S LIKE I SAID, THEY'RE NOT COMPARING THEMSELVES TO THAT PERCENTAGE.

THEY'RE COMPARING THEMSELVES TO THE PEOPLE THAT THEY EAT LUNCH WITH AND WALK THE HALLS WITH, AND SO IMPROVING THOSE NUMBERS, I KNOW THAT'S A GOAL OF THIS BOARD AND OF THIS CABINET. SO ALL I'LL SAY IS I THINK I MEAN, AGAIN, THIS IS JUST ANOTHER DATA POINT PROVING SOMETHING. WE ALREADY KNOW THAT, BUT I WOULD ALSO SAY, LET'S HOLD OFF UNTIL YOU GET TO THE NEXT SLIDE, BECAUSE YOU GO TO THE 11TH GRADERS WHO TOOK THE.

ARE THE FIRST TWO PSAT TAKERS? CORRECT. SO THIS IS THE PSAT/NMSQT.

SO THE PSAT/NMSQT IN A MARKED IN MS. STANDS FOR NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP QUALIFYING TEST THIS EXAM ENTER STUDENTS INTO COMPETITION TO EARN SCHOLARSHIPS.

THIS IS AN OPTIONAL TEST FOR OUR STUDENTS, SO NOT ALL OF OUR STUDENTS TAKE THIS EXAM.

ALL RIGHT, THE TOP 16,000 SCORES NATIONALLY QUALIFY AS NATIONAL MERIT SEMIFINALIST.

THIS GROUP IS EVENTUALLY NARROWED DOWN TO FURTHER NARROWED DOWN FURTHER THROUGH AN EVALUATION PROCESS, LOOKING AT ACADEMIC RECORD ACTIVITIES, LEADERSHIP, ETC..

7500 FINALISTS ARE CHOSEN TO RECEIVE A MERIT SCHOLARSHIP.

FOR 2022, PLANO ISD HAD 79 NATIONAL MERIT SEMIFINALISTS.

SO OUR TOP CHART LOOKS AT OUR PSAT/NMSQT FOR THE FALL OF 2021.

YOU SEE OUR YOU SEE OUR COLLEGE READINESS BENCHMARKS FOR THOSE JUNIORS DOWN THERE AT THE BOTTOM, YOU SEE THE STATE PERCENTAGES IN THE NATIONAL PERCENTAGES.

NOW, OUR PERCENTAGES AT THE TOP ARE REALLY HIGH BECAUSE ONLY HALF OF OUR STUDENTS TESTED.

THIS IS AN OPTIONAL TEST THAT THEY PAY TO TAKE.

SO YOU SEE 2000 STUDENTS TESTED.

WE WERE AT 71% OF THOSE TESTERS MEETING BOTH OF THOSE COLLEGE READINESS BENCHMARKS.

SO THAT'S WHY WE WERE AT SUCH A HIGH NUMBER.

SO DID WE, I FORGET, NANCY, YOU MAY REMEMBER THIS, BUT I MEAN, THIS IS PAYING FOR THIS TEST IS ALL COME ABOUT IN THE LAST TEN YEARS, AND SO DID WE NEVER I THOUGHT WE PAID FOR THE 11TH GRADE PSAT, AT ONE POINT.

I MEAN, THIS NOBODY WAS HERE EXCEPT US.

SO, BUT I THOUGHT WE USED TO PAY FOR THE 11TH GRADE TEST.

I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THAT, BUT WE ARE PAYING FOR SAT.

OKAY. SO NINTH GRADE, WE PAY FOR PSAT OR PSAT 9, PSAT IN 10TH GRADE AND THEN ALL SAT IN 11TH GRADE. WELL, MAYBE THAT'S WHAT I'M THINKING ABOUT.

WELL, BUT WE, I JUST, I SWEAR WE PAID FOR EVEN BEFORE HOUSE BILL THREE THAT THIS WAS YEARS AGO. MAYBE I'M JUST THINKING ABOUT.

MAYBE FIRST WE JUST PAID FOR 10TH GRADE PSAT AND NOW WE'RE PAYING TEN.

DAVID THE HOUR IS GETTING LATE.

I GUESS..

IT IS. MY QUESTION IS NOT WHETHER WE DID OR DIDN'T, BUT SHOULD WE OFFER FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR STUDENTS WHO SPECIFICALLY WANT TO TAKE THIS TEST, WHOSE FAMILIES MAY MEET CERTAIN CRITERIA? I THINK FOR THE LIKE THE ECODYST STUDENTS, WE DO OFFER THAT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR THOSE STUDENTS THAT OPT TO TAKE THIS TEST YES.

THAT ALSO INCLUDES AP TEST, AND STACEY, TO YOUR POINT, I THINK WE DO NEED A COUPLE MORE YEARS OF DATA POINTS TO REALLY COMPARE, BECAUSE WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE DATA POINTS AND YOU SEE ON 10TH GRADE, WE HAVE 438 AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDENTS TAKING THE TEST AND THEN IT DROPS DOWN TO 150.

RIGHT. YES THE SCORES IMPROVE, BUT NOT, I GUESS, ALMOST DOUBLE.

SO THAT IS KIND OF DRAMATIC OR I THINK THAT'S EXACTLY DOUBLE, BUT IT'S STILL NOT THAT'S NOT A VERY GOOD RIGHT.

WE WANT TO CREATE WHERE THE STUDENTS WANT TO TAKE THIS AS A JUNIOR.

LIKE THAT'S, IN A FEW YEARS, WE WANT TO SEE THAT NUMBER OF 2000 STUDENTS OPTING IN TO TAKE THIS TO INCREASE TO 3000 STUDENTS OPTING TO TAKE THIS BECAUSE WE'VE BUILT IN THAT WANT OF THE STUDENTS TO TEST YOU KNOW, BECAUSE WE HAVE CREATED THOSE SUPPORTS AT THE FRESHMAN LEVEL AND THE SOPHOMORE LEVEL.

[01:15:02]

SO THAT'S WHAT WE REALLY WANT.

IT SEEMS LIKE YOU'RE LEADING UP TO LIKE A THREE YEAR PLAN, RIGHT? WE'RE LEADING UP TO A THREE YEAR PLAN.

YOU'VE GOT IT.

YES, SIR. SO WE'VE SEEN THE DATA FOR THE LAST YEAR ON THE PSAT.

WHAT WE WANT TO SHIFT OUR FOCUS TO NOW IS HOW WE WILL LEVERAGE THIS DATA AT THE DISTRICT AND CAMPUS LEVEL TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS MEETING COLLEGE READINESS BENCHMARKS ON THE SAT, THUS INCREASING NUMBER OF STUDENTS, MEANING CCMR FOR ACCOUNTABILITY.

THIS PLAN HAS BEEN CREATED THROUGH A COLLABORATIVE EFFORT OF MULTIPLE DEPARTMENTS AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL. SO IN YEAR ONE, WE PLAN TO SET OUR FOUNDATION.

YEAR ONE PROVIDES US THE OPPORTUNITY TO ANALYZE AND REVIEW PSAT DATA BY CAMPUS WITH ADMINISTRATORS TO HAVE A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF WHERE OUR STUDENT POPULATION CURRENTLY IS. AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL, WE WILL ALSO INCORPORATE NEW SUMMER INSTITUTE PROGRAMS AND SAT BOOST CAMPS, WHICH WE WILL TALK A LITTLE BIT MORE IN DEPTH ON A LATER SLIDE.

CAMPUSES WILL ALSO USE YOUR WON TO IDENTIFY CAMPUS STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES, DESIGNATE CCMR ADMINISTRATORS, PINPOINT TEAM LEADS WHO KNOW HOW TO LOOK AT DATA OR NEED TO BE TRAINED ON HOW TO LOOK AT DATA. WE WILL COMMUNICATE OUT TO PARENTS AND STUDENTS THE IMPORTANCE OF THE PSAT AND WHAT THE END GOAL IS FOR OUR STUDENTS.

COMMUNICATION RESOURCES HAVE ALREADY BEEN CREATED.

PRESENTATIONS ARE AVAILABLE FOR OUR CAMPUSES.

THIS IS JUST A PUSH AT THE CAMPUS LEVEL THAT WILL TAKE PLACE EARLY IN THE FALL, PRIOR TO THE PSAT, AND THEN AGAIN WHEN SCORES ARE RETURNED AT THE END OF THE SEMESTER.

IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT THAT COMMUNICATION, BECAUSE THAT'S ONE OF THOSE THINGS.

IF YOU ARE IF YOU ARE A PARENT WHO HAS BEEN TO COLLEGE, YOU HAVE AN ADVANTAGE BEING ABLE TO TRANSLATE TO YOUR CHILD HOW TO GET THERE.

I REMEMBER BEING REALLY MAD BECAUSE NO ONE TOLD ME THAT THIS PSAT TEST WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A NATIONAL MERIT.

I DID NOT HEAR THAT MEMO WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL THAT DID NOT BECAUSE MY PARENTS DIDN'T KNOW. I MEAN, THEY DIDN'T KNOW, AND I DIDN'T HEAR THAT MEMO.

SO I DIDN'T.

I REMEMBER VERY DISTINCTLY JUST KIND OF GOING THROUGH IT AND THEN WENT WHAT I COULD HAVE APPLIED MYSELF AND DONE MORE.

DID THEY HAVE THAT BACK WHEN YOU WERE IN HIGH SCHOOL? NANCY, IT WAS ME.

YOU'RE TERRIBLE, BUT NOW THAT I KNEW ABOUT IT, CERTAINLY MY CHILDREN NOW KNEW HOW THE IMPORTANCE OF IT. SO I THINK THAT'S THE COMMUNICATION PIECE, AND TRYING TO MEET PEOPLE WHERE THEY ARE WITH THE COMMUNICATION PIECE IS SO CRITICAL.

SO THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT, SO IN YEAR TWO, WE LOOK TO BUILD CAPACITY.

THE WORK WE DID IN YEAR ONE WILL STILL CONTINUE.

WE WANT THE CAMPUSES TO CONTINUE WITH THAT IMPORTANT COMMUNICATION PIECE, BUT WE WANT TO BUILD UPON THOSE THINGS WE LEARNED IN YEAR ONE AND START DIGGING MORE INTO THE DATA.

IN YEAR TWO, WE WILL HAVE GIVEN THE PSAT 9 NOW FOR FOUR YEARS, AND THIS GIVES US AN OPPORTUNITY TO LOOK AT SOME TREND AND COHORT DATA FOR THE DISTRICT.

USING THIS DATA, WE CAN WORK WITH CAMPUSES ON CREATING SYSTEMS TO IDENTIFY STUDENTS IN NEED OF SUPPORT. YOUR TWO WILL BRING A DISTRICT WIDE PUSH TO LINK STUDENT COLLEGE BOARD ACCOUNTS TO KHAN ACADEMY.

INSTRUCTIONS WILL BE SUPPLIED OUT TO CAMPUSES.

STUDENTS CAN EASILY COMPLETE THIS DURING THEIR ADVISORY PERIODS, AND TO ENSURE THIS IS EFFECTIVE, STUDENTS WILL UTILIZE KHAN ACADEMY DURING ADVISORY PERIODS OR INTERVENTION TIMES PERIODICALLY THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.

STUDENTS WILL ALSO BE ENCOURAGED TO USE KHAN ACADEMY FROM HOME AS WELL.

IN YEAR THREE, [INAUDIBLE] KHAN ACADEMY IS STILL FREE, AND THAT'S PART OF THE BIG PIECE OF THAT CORRECT? AND DO WE KNOW THAT THERE'S OUTCOMES BASED ON KHAN ACADEMY THAT IT IS ACTUALLY A PROGRAM THAT DOES DELIVER IT? I MEAN, WE HAVE EVIDENCE THAT ON THAT AND SHOWS THE GAINS THAT STUDENTS HAVE MADE BY JUST UTILIZING KHAN ACADEMY.

WELL, I MEAN, IT'S GOT A GREAT REPUTATION.

YOU ALSO HAVE YOU GET SOMETHING FOR NOTHING, I THINK IN THIS CASE YOU DO, BUT I JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE WE DROVE HOME THAT.

IT TIES STRAIGHT INTO THEIR PSAT RESULTS, LIKE IT WILL UTILIZE THEIR PSAT RESULTS TO CREATE A PLAN FOR THEM THAT WILL CLOSE THOSE GAPS FOR THEM.

SOME OF OUR STUDENTS, YOU KNOW WHEN THEY GO HOME, THE HOME ENVIRONMENT IS JUST SO LOUD AND YOU KNOW THERE'S BACKGROUND NOISE.

DO WE HAVE THE OPTION FOR OUR STUDENTS TO GO INTO OUR SCHOOLS WHEN THEY GO TO A LIBRARY OR SOMETHING AND USE KHAN ACADEMY WHERE IT'S QUIET? SO IT WOULD BE AN OPTION OPPORTUNITY FOR THEM TO USE IT DURING TUTORIALS, AFTER SCHOOL, AND YOU HAVE THOSE KHAN ACADEMY CAN BE UTILIZED ANYWHERE THAT YOU HAVE THE INTERNET.

SO THEY CAN GO TO LOCAL LIBRARIES, THEY CAN GO TO LIBRARIES AT SCHOOL ANYWHERE THAT THEY HAVE THE INTERNET, THEY CAN THEY CAN USE KHAN ACADEMY.

OKAY. STARBUCKS.

YES. ANYWHERE.

YOU'VE GOT WIFI. WE'VE GOT THOSE WIFI'S THAT WE CAN UTILIZE FOR THESE STUDENTS.

YEAH. SO IN YEAR THREE, WE LOOK TO CONTINUE THE WORK FROM YEAR ONE AND TWO, BUT WE ALSO WANT TO INTEGRATE WHAT WE'RE LEARNING FROM THE DATA INTO EVERYDAY INSTRUCTION.

AND WORKING WITH CAMPUSES, WE WILL DEVELOP PROTOCOL FOR CAMPUS TEAMS TO ANALYZE DATA AND HAVE THAT DRIVE INSTRUCTION.

WE WILL USE SIMILAR PROTOCOLS TO WHAT TEACHERS ARE ALREADY USING FOR STAAR DATA, SO THEY

[01:20:04]

WILL BE FAMILIAR WITH THE FORMAT.

OUR NEW NINTH GRADERS WILL LINK THEIR COLLEGE BOARD ACCOUNTS WITH CONN AND WE WILL HAVE COMPLETED OUR THREE YEAR PLAN.

OF COURSE, THE PLAN IS NEVER REALLY DONE.

WE WILL CONTINUE TO IDENTIFY STUDENTS, COMMUNICATE WITH STUDENTS AND PARENTS, AND REVIEW THE PLAN AND MAKE CHANGES AS NECESSARY.

NOW WE ARE VERY EXCITED ABOUT OUR TWO NEW PSAT/SAT PREPARATION PROGRAMS THAT WE HAVE ON THE HORIZON THAT YOU GUYS HAVE PUT THE FINISHING TOUCHES ON FOR US TONIGHT.

OUR FIRST ONE IS THE PLANO SCHOLARS INSTITUTE.

THIS PROGRAM'S GOAL IS TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS EARNING NATIONAL MERIT RECOGNITION. THE PROGRAM WILL TARGET OUR TOP SCORING NINTH AND 10TH GRADERS ON THE PSAT.

THE PROGRAM IS GOING TO UTILIZE LIVE VIRTUAL INSTRUCTORS PROVIDED BY OUR VENDOR.

WHAT WE'RE REALLY LOOKING AT IS 12 TO 15 HOURS OF INSTRUCTION.

DURING THE SUMMER, STUDENTS WILL BE INVITED TO ATTEND THE SUMMER PROGRAM.

THEY'RE GOING TO BE PROVIDED PRACTICE TESTS, TEST TAKING STRATEGIES, CONTENT SPECIFIC INSTRUCTION. AND THEN ONCE THIS IS DONE IN THE SUMMER, THEY WILL ACTUALLY HAVE 365 DAYS OF ACCESS TO THE PROGRAM SO THAT THEY CAN CONTINUE THEIR PSAT AND SAT PREP THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR. SO WE'RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO GET THOSE KIDS READY FOR THE MSNQT IN THE FALL, AND THEN THOSE JUNIORS CAN CONTINUE TO GET READY FOR THE SAT IN THE SPRING USING THIS PROGRAM. SO THAT'LL BE OUR PLANO SCHOLARS INSTITUTE THAT KICKS OFF THIS SUMMER.

SO WE'RE GOING TO AFTER TONIGHT, I GET TO GET IN CONTACT WITH OUR VENDOR AND WE CAN WORK OUT ALL OUR DETAILS AND START INVITING STUDENTS VERY, VERY SOON.

FOR OUR SAT BOOST CAMP.

THIS WILL KICK OFF NEXT SPRING PRIOR TO THE SAT SCHOOL DAY.

THIS TARGET AUDIENCE IS THOSE 11TH GRADE STUDENTS THAT WILL BE TESTING DURING SAT SCHOOL DAY. WE WILL LOOK AT THOSE PSAT SCORES, THE MSNQT SCORES, AND WE'RE REALLY LOOKING AT THOSE STUDENTS THAT WERE NOT QUITE COLLEGE READY, THOSE KIND OF BUBBLE STUDENTS THAT WE CAN GIVE A LITTLE BIT MORE BOOST, IF YOU WILL, PRIOR TO THEM TAKING THAT SAT.

WE HAD SOME CONVERSATIONS WITH SOME STUDENTS AFTER THE SAT THIS LAST TIME, AND THEY GAVE US SOME FEEDBACK ON THINGS THAT THEY DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THE SAT.

THEY JUST DIDN'T KNOW BASIC TEST TAKING STRATEGIES.

THEY DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THAT SOME OF THEM DIDN'T KNOW THEY WERE TAKING THE TEST.

THEY OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T GET THE MEMO.

SO WE ARE GOING TO WORK WITH THESE STUDENTS TO MAKE SURE THEY KNOW SOME TEST TAKING STRATEGIES. THEY GET A PRACTICE TEST PRIOR TO THE SAT.

WE GIVE THEM SOME CONTENT SPECIFIC INSTRUCTION.

SO WE'RE GOING TO INVITE AROUND 800 STUDENTS TO BE PART OF THIS SAT BOOST CAMP.

SO THIS WILL BE ANOTHER VIRTUAL BOOST CAMP FOR OUR STUDENTS AS WELL.

ONE THING I'LL POINT OUT, WE APPROVED THAT IN 7.5 ON THE TONIGHT'S AGENDA, AND I JUST WANT TO MENTION THAT IS GOING TO BE PAID THROUGH ESSER FUNDS.

YES, MA'AM, AND SO THAT'S SOMETHING THAT OUR VIEWERS MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN KNOWING WHAT WILL BE THE FUNDING MECHANISM AFTER ESSER FUNDS ARE GONE.

WE'LL WE'LL FIGURE THAT OUT.

WE DON'T WANT THAT TO GO AWAY.

SO I'LL BE TALKING TO SOME VERY IMPORTANT PEOPLE UP HERE ON THAT SIDE OF THE TABLE HERE, WHENEVER THAT'S DONE, BUT WE DON'T WANT THAT TO GO AWAY.

OKAY. SO, NANCY, YOU SAID SOMETHING ABOUT OUR VIEWERS.

SO I'M HEARING A QUESTION THAT MAY BE OUT THERE, AND THAT IS WHY THE EMPHASIS ON THE SAT AND NOT THE ACT, BECAUSE THAT IS OUR COMMUNITY.

KIDS ARE TAKING EITHER ONE.

I KNOW THE ANSWER, BUT I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE GOOD FOR YOU TO SHARE WITH THAT.

SO THE SAT IS WHAT WE PROVIDE IN DISTRICT.

WE PROVIDE THE PSAT AND THE SAT AND THAT'S THAT IS OUR SEQUENCE OF COLLEGE READY EXAMS IN PLANO ISD. SO THAT'S, THAT'S WHAT WE PREPARE OUR STUDENTS FOR, AND THAT'S, THAT'S WHAT WE ARE PREPARING FOR AS A DISTRICT.

SO WE MADE THE DECISION SEVERAL YEARS AGO THAT WE WERE DOING THE SAT AND THAT'S WHY THIS IS THE PROGRESS THAT WE'RE MAKING.

YES, MA'AM. SO ONE THING THAT I WOULD BE INTERESTED, AS YOU SORT OF TRACK THIS COHORT DATA AND DO THESE STUDIES THAT YOU'RE LOOKING AT, IS UTILIZATION OF THESE PROGRAMS, NOT ONLY THESE TWO PAID PROGRAMS THAT WERE JUST APPROVED, BUT THE KHAN ACADEMY AND TRACKING THE STUDENTS THAT ARE IN IT, AND YEAH, THAT IS FOR SURE.

SOMETHING WE WANT TO DO IS TRACKING HOW THEY DO AND THEN HOW THEY SCORE AND, AND SEEING HOW MANY MEET THAT COLLEGE READINESS STANDARD.

THAT IS THAT IS ONE THING WE WANT TO MAKE SURE WE'RE GETTING THE BEST VALUE FOR OUR BUCK WHENEVER WE'RE DOING SOMETHING LIKE THIS.

YES. RIGHT, AND THAT GETTING THE BETTER SCORE IS SORT OF ONE INCENTIVE.

ARE THERE OTHER POTENTIAL INCENTIVES MAYBE TO BUILD INTO THIS PROGRAM IN THE FUTURE TO INCREASE UTILIZATION? SO JUST AS I WAS GOING THROUGH THINKING ABOUT THIS, THAT WAS SOMETHING AS YOU'RE GOING THROUGH THE DATA, I'D BE VERY INTERESTED IN THE FUTURE AND SEEING AND JUST YOUR THOUGHTS ON WHAT UTILIZATION IS AND INCREASING UTILIZATION AS YOU ALL ARE GOING THROUGH THIS.

[01:25:01]

YES, MA'AM. I WAS GOING TO SAY NOW THIS THROWS A WRENCH INTO THINGS, BUT I'VE HEARD THAT SOME COLLEGES ARE ABANDONING USING THE SAT.

HOW WOULD THAT POSSIBLY IMPACT THIS? SO THAT WAS SOMETHING THAT WAS STARTED IN COVID, AND THE COLLEGES ARE STILL GOING TO UTILIZE SAT OR ACT AS FAR AS YOU KNOW, WHENEVER THEY'RE MAKING THAT DECISION ON IF A STUDENT'S GETTING IN OR NOT.

SO IT'S STILL GOING TO BE PART OF THAT PROCESS THAT IF THEY HAVE STUDENTS OF THAT ARE VERY SIMILAR. THEY'RE GOING TO USE THAT AS PART OF THEIR.

YEAH, THEY'RE STILL GOING TO IT'S STILL GOING TO BE PART OF THE PROCESS.

LIKE I'VE I HAVE A DAUGHTER THAT'S A JUNIOR RIGHT NOW AND EVERY COLLEGE THAT SHE'S APPLIED TO, THEY STILL WANT TO SEE HER SAT SCORES LIKE THAT IS STILL PART OF THE APPLICATION PROCESS THAT THEY WANT TO WANT TO SEE IT.

SO SHE'S I DON'T KNOW, SHE'S APPLIED TO LIKE 20 SCHOOLS.

SO THEY STILL WANT TO SEE IT.

THAT'S A LOT OF FEES.

I KNOW. I KNOW, BUT SHE DOESN'T KNOW WHERE SHE WANTS TO GO YET, SO WE'LL SEE.

SO CAN I ASK YOU A QUESTION? YES, MA'AM. SO I HAVE A DAUGHTER WHO JUST TOOK A SAT IN THIS YEAR AND MY HUSBAND IS THE ONE WHO GAVE HER A BOOST CAMP.

SO I ASKED MY HUSBAND, I NEVER TOOK SAT.

I TOOK GRE.

I DIDN'T GO TO COLLEGE HERE.

SO MY HUSBAND SAID ALL THIS CONCEPT, THE SAT HAS A SET OF CONCEPTS.

IT'S LIKE IF YOU KNOW THE MATERIALS, NO MATTER HOW YOU TEST THE KID, HE'S GOING TO CONSISTENTLY SCORE HIGH.

THERE IS A CERTAIN LIKE THE CONTENT, BUT IF WE CAN USE PUT THIS CONTENT INTO INSTRUCTION LIKE INTEGRATE THEM INTO INSTRUCTION.

I SAW IT SOMEWHERE IN THAT WAY.

AND THAT'S PART OF YOUR THREE.

THAT'S ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE WANT TO DO IS WE WANT TO LOOK AT WHERE WHERE OUR STUDENTS ARE.

LIKE WHEN WE'RE LOOKING AT CONTENT.

THAT'S ONE OF THE THINGS WE WANT OUR TEACHERS DOING IS..

WHY DO WE WAIT FOR STUDENTS? WHY? I ALWAYS THINK EDUCATION CAN WAIT.

SO WHY DON'T WE WAIT UNTIL YEAR THREE INSTEAD OF NOW, IF WE CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT WILL BE TESTED AND INTEGRATE THEM INTO INSTRUCTION ALREADY LIKE.

SOME OF THE CONCEPTS MIGHT BE TOO ADVANCED FOR NINTH GRADE.

WELL INTEGRATE LIKE SLOWLY.

THE CONCEPTS ARE ALREADY IN THE CURRICULUM FOR ONE THING.

SO THESE ARE ALL PART OF THE TEKS.

IT'S ALL PART OF THE TEKS ALREADY.

SO THESE ARE ALL PART OF OUR TEKS RIGHT NOW, BUT WHAT WE NEED TO DO IS WE NEED TO LOOK AT THE DATA AS FAR AS WHERE OUR STUDENTS ARE SCORING AND WHERE THEY'RE STRUGGLING AND LOOK AT THAT DATA AND THEN HOW CAN WE WORK WITH THE CURRICULUM AND HOW CAN WE SUPPORT THEM IN THE CURRICULUM WITH THAT? SO IT'S REALLY ABOUT OUR TEACHERS LOOKING AT INDIVIDUALIZED STUDENTS IN THEIR CLASSROOM AND PUSHING IN FOR THOSE KIDS.

BUT THE CONCEPTS ARE ALREADY IN THE TEKS AND WE'RE ALREADY TEACHING THOSE CONCEPTS.

NOW, IT'S MORE LIKE INDIVIDUALIZED.

IT'S CUSTOMIZED FOR THE KIDS, RIGHT? YEAH. OKAY. THANK YOU.

SO I'D LIKE TO CONNECT A COUPLE OF DOTS AND THIS IS GOING TO GO BACK TO PAYING FOR WHAT? SO WE'RE PAYING FOR NINTH AND 10TH GRADE PSAT AND THEN WE'RE GETTING REIMBURSED FOR THE FIRST SAT THAT A STUDENT TAKES GENERALLY SPRING OF JUNIOR YEAR RIGHT, AND THAT'S THE ONLY SAT WE GIVE FOR YEAH, WE GIVE JUNIOR YEAR.

SO WE'RE MISSING AN OPPORTUNITY IN MY MIND BECAUSE WE'RE WE'RE GIVING NINTH GRADERS A PSAT IN OCTOBER.

WE'RE GIVING 10TH GRADERS A PSAT IN OCTOBER.

THEN THEY'RE NOT TAKING ANOTHER SAT TEST UNLESS THEY OPT INTO THE 11TH GRADE PSAT, AND WE'RE ALREADY WE KNOW THE DATA SHOWS THAT WE'RE LOSING 35% OF OUR KIDS.

WE'RE LOSING 1400 KIDS WHO AREN'T TAKING THAT OPPORTUNITY IN 11TH GRADE TO PREPARE FOR THE SAT THAT THEY WILL TAKE IN THE SPRING, AND SO WHAT I WOULD MY REQUEST WOULD BE IF THERE'S A WAY FOR US TO BRIDGE THAT GAP AND PAY FOR OR FIND A SPONSOR FOR OR SOMEHOW.

BOOST THAT.

I WANT ALL OF OUR JUNIORS TAKING THAT PSAT.

YEAH, AND IF THERE'S A WAY TO DO THAT, LET'S FIGURE OUT A WAY TO DO THAT, BECAUSE YOU'RE GOING, THESE KIDS ARE GOING A YEAR AND A HALF WITHOUT TAKING AN SAT LIKE TEST, AND SO I THINK A LOT OF THE THINGS YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT PUTTING IN PLACE WILL HELP, BUT HAVING THAT EXPERIENCE IN 11TH GRADE OF TAKING THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF PSAT IS ALSO GOING TO HELP I THINK. THAT'S JUST MY $0.02.

SO GOING BACK TO I THINK HEATHER'S QUESTION, IS THERE ANYTHING ON THE SAT THAT ARE THAT THE TEKS DON'T COVER? OR SHOULD SHOULD A STUDENT TAKING THE SAT EXPECT TO HAVE COME ACROSS THAT TEKS?

[01:30:05]

I'M NOT AN EXPERT AT IT.

I DIDN'T TAKE THE SAT.

I'LL BE THE FIRST ONE.

I TOOK THE ACT. I'M FROM THE MIDWEST MIDWEST ACT.

SO I'M NOT AN EXPERT ON THE CURRICULUM SIDE OF IT, BUT WHENEVER YOU LOOK AT THE COLLEGE BOARD, IT SHOWS YOU EXACTLY WHAT IS COVERED ON.

LIKE IF YOU LOOK GO QUESTION BY QUESTION AND IT SHOWS YOU WHAT TECH HAS COVERED ON EVERY SINGLE QUESTION, AND I, IF I REMEMBER IT CORRECTLY, IT SHOWS A TC FOR EVERY SINGLE QUESTION, BUT I CAN'T BE 100% POSITIVE.

OKAY. SO THERE'S THAT CORRELATION THERE THAT YOU CAN LOG ON AND SAY FOR THIS QUESTION, THIS IS THE CLOSEST TEK, RIGHT, OR SOMETHING, AND IT DRIVES IT ALL THE WAY DOWN ALMOST TO ELEMENTARY LEVEL, LIKE SHOWS IT ALMOST ALL THE WAY DOWN TO ELEMENTARY LEVEL, AND THEN MY OTHER THING, MORE OF A COMMENT.

I THINK I WAS TALKING TO SOMEBODY THAT DOES HVAC AND THEY WERE SAYING AN HVAC TECHNICIAN, ALL OF THE HVAC TEXTBOOKS ARE WRITTEN AT A SOPHOMORE COLLEGE LEVEL.

AND SO FOR OUR STUDENTS THAT ARE MORE DEDICATED TO BEING CAREER READY THAN COLLEGE READY I WOULD SAY THAT EVEN BEING CAREER READY STILL REQUIRES BEING COLLEGE READY, BECAUSE YOU NEED TO BE READING AT A SOPHOMORE LEVEL TO DO SOME OF THE TECHNICAL JOBS AND CAREER AND TECHNICAL INSTITUTE JOBS RIGHT OUT THE GATE.

SO I THINK REGARDLESS OF THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS THAT END UP DECIDING TO GO TO COLLEGE, THAT WE WANT TO HAVE 100% OF THEM COLLEGE READY.

SO I KNOW SOME PEOPLE MAY THINK THAT WE ARE FOCUSING TOO HEAVILY ON SAT, AND THIS PARTICULAR TOPIC, WHICH THIS IS THE TOPIC OF THE NIGHT, SO WE SHOULD BE FOCUSING ON IT, BUT ALSO, EVEN IF A STUDENT DECIDES NOT TO GO THE COLLEGE ROUTE, THEY SHOULD BE.

IT SHOULD BE BECAUSE THEY MADE A CHOICE, NOT BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T.

I'M WITH YOU 100%.

I THINK WE SHOULD HAVE 100% COLLEGE READY AS WELL.

YOU KNOW, IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN, BUT IT WOULD BE LOVELY TO HAVE ONE GOOD GOAL.

RIGHT? LET'S SHOOT FOR THE MOON.

I THINK I KNOW WHERE YOU HAD THAT IDEA.

WE BOTH WENT TO A STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT ASSESSMENT CLASS IN REGION TEN.

THAT'S WHERE WE BOTH KNOW YOU.

COLLEGE READY 100% SHOULD BE OUR GOAL.

RIGHT. YEAH. YEAH.

WELL, THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

I THINK AS WHEN YOU COME UP INTO THE HOT SEAT ON THESE THINGS, AS PEOPLE ARE FINDING OUT, THIS BOARD IS VERY ENGAGED AND HAS LOTS OF QUESTIONS AND HOT SPORTS OPINIONS.

SO GOOD INFORMATION.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE THREE YEAR PLAN AND BOOSTING ALL OF THOSE NUMBERS. ALL RIGHT, YOU ALL HAVE A NICE THANKS OK.
